Enter Kraven the Hunter! Kraven has isolated himself in the wilderness to brew and plot revenge against Spider-Man. When Kraven returns to New York to hunt down his prey, Spider-Man is caught unawares.
Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
I'm always singing the praises of Spidey's original run, so I might as well point its weak aspects also. In this issue we have a good example. In the beginning it's the most laughably cheap bait and switch that I have ever seen. Betty learns Pete's secret identity and, HOLD UP, it's just a dream! Also I just don't like the original Aunt May, the way she always treats Pete like a baby, only for him to always take care of her in exchange for some cookies... I mean, c'mon! Yeah, I get the story implications for why she is that way, sure, but still since I was a child I found her annoying, now that I'm an adult I find her more annoying. And I know that it was the 60s and she has an old school mindset because probably she was born around the time of the dinosaurs but... c'mon!
"Oh Peter, dear. Stop watching those awful television programs. It's just to much for a young man as yourself. You are so fragile Peter, dear, I'm alive since the first photograph was stealing people's souls so I know better. Here, let me fix you something to eat since it's the only thing that I'm good at. Yeah, probably in the next issue I'm gonna die again or I might do something even crazier like marry Dock Ock or Venom or something. Yes, I want a man who can at least produce four tentacles out of him. You want to go to a movie? Fine, but don't see one of those awful scary films! It might give you nightmares!"
Tanpa ragu, Kraven langsung menyerangnya.
Kraven returns to the pages of Spidey with ASM #34 as he once again takes his mixture of drugs and attempts to hunt the Web Crawler.
Betty has a nightmare that Peter reveals that he's Spider-Man which says a lot about her wallflower psyche. We find out that the other frail woman in Peter's life, Aunt May, is on the mends and is released from hospital but before he gets to take it easy, and eat May's world famous wheatcakes, Kraven attacks infamous publisher Jameson dressed as Spider-Man.
The issue wraps with the bombshell that Betty Brant has left the Bugle.
I needed a laugh today and seeing Kraven spray "jungle scent" to cancel out Spider-Man's Spider Sense did the trick. I'd hope for Peter's sake after having tons of machinery dropped on him (last ish) that he didn't get a face full of Lion urine.
Harry appearance number two. Got some good chuckles out of this one. I love a lot of these one liners. I’m not a huge fan of Gwen’s personality, she is quite stuck up and annoying, but I’m not too bothered by it. Yet.
Another fun adventure with the mighty Kraven after our hero. This has the villain impersonating Spider-Man in order to lure him into a trap, but also reminds readers of how much Kraven values his own particular code of honour. Fun times.
