Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
Classic PP/SM tale where the 'two' just seem to get in the way of each other. The genius of Lee/Ditko was their ability to 'project' real problems onto SM/PP: in this issue Flash Thompson (FT) wants to fight after school: but Spidey has to leave to find a way to avoid the Spider Slayer (Mark I) from finding him as SM - but all his classmates think it is because PP is afraid of FT. Ditko is way ahead of his time with his design of SSM1: reminds me of a very early prototype of the shape-shifting T-1000 robot in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
This only gets 4 stars because of the spider signal, it's clearly an attempt at copying Batman, and it's clearly not needed, and doesn't even suit the character. Something puzzles me here, if Stan Lee gave credit to plotters, as we see in the first page, when he said Steve Ditko dreamed this plot. How did we see all this controversy around him about certain characters, where Kirby claimed to have created them? I read many things by Stan and Kirby, Stan never gave him credit for plotting. Or is it because Ditko was already established name while Stan was coming up, and then the tables turned when it was Kirby?
Anyway, the story is great, it's actually way more enjoyable than most things Howard Mackie wrote 😂 Which is insane, and you probably won't believe me that something from the 60s is better than something from the 90s but it's true! I think all the historical baggage of what happened to Spider-man in those 30 something years, and me not being there for them, takes part of the fun of reading Spider-man. But at the same time, the simplicity in the story, and how it's basically less than 10 characters that I know so well, and how perfectly they are written. This is basically the Blueprint for writing Flash, Betty, JJJ, Aunt May, Liz Allan. Also the mystery of how MJ looks like is amazing, they are teasing the readers and not showing her face. Such absolute brilliance at work. I might decide to read this run sometime this year, just the issues that Stan Lee wrote.
JJJ continues his pursuit of the ASM by controlling a strange tentacled robot that projects his face from its head!! Plus we get the first obscured view of Mary Jane here-that drives Betty and Liz just bonkers!!
We ‘meet’ Mary Jane! Also loved Jonah saying ‘I could keep this up all day’. As always the thought bubbles overexplain but I really liked the plot of this one, especially with the scare at the end! Besides the thought bubbles the only thing that truly annoys me is the drama with Liz and Betty. Still not over the fact that Betty must be quite a bit older than Peter for already having a full time job and that just makes it extra awkward 😂
ASM #25 immediately follows on from #24 as we see Peter leaving Liz Allan's after some "night coaching" and heads off to retrieve his "spider beam" which he distracted Flash with. The main plot of this issue is the, now infamous, inventor Spencer Smythe creates a remote-controlled robot called the Spider-Slayer to destroy Spider-Man which Jameson is all too willing to control himself to send after the web-crawler. We also find out that Peter now has a spare costume which Aunt May later finds!
We get a second Norman Osborn appearance as we see him leaving Jameson's office, again he is not given a name, nor does he have any dialogue yet. This is also officially the first appearance of MJ with the line of "Hel-lo Girls!", though Betty & Liz exclaim that "She looks like a screen star!" we are left in anticipation as Ditko has her face covered by a flower.
NB. This issue was adapted in the 2nd episode of the first season of the 1994 animated series of Spider-Man.
Peter Parker thinks he will make some easy money by taking photos of J. Jonah Jameson controlling a robot that can defeat Spider-Man, but it turns out that the robot might actually be capable of defeating our hero. Meanwhile, Betty Brant and Liz Allan are stunned to meet . . . Mary Jane Watson (although readers don't get to see her face yet). This is a good mix of superhero action and teen drama, and it's always good to see if Jameson will be left with egg on is face again.
Si robot pun terus mengejar Spider-Man yang menghindarinya. Dan setelah Spider-Man mulai kehabisan tenaga, si robot berhasil menangkapnya.

Bibi May menemukan kostum Spider-Man di kamar Peter.
True superheroes still patch up their costume themselves because they only have one spare, plus J. J. J. looks so ridiculous with that robot here, I love it. Also, I didn't know that M. J. was teased like this, of course, typical 60s, the teaser is all about looks, but I'm definitely looking forward to when M. J. finally shows up.

Getting a liiiittle bit sick of this love-square that's happening. Where's the sisterhood? Hopefully it won't last too much longer, but I feel like it will. Otherwise, the robot was fun. I still don't understand how J. Jonah Jameson isn't arrested 😅

Not a super serious issue. It has its comedic moments, but it really shows the limits of 60’s comic writing. Still sick of the Liz/Betty beef and Flash needs to take a chill pill. Basically, everyone is toxic in this book.
I guess I liked J. Jonah Jameson robot, until it became a bit tired.
I couldn't tell if the man in the center panel on page 3 was Norman or not, but I'll count this one anyway. However, this story was super entertaining. JJJ is something else. The only thing irritating about it (and probably will continue to be the subject of my reviews) is Betty and Liz. Bleh.
not necessarily the greatest story but it's one of my favorites as its a fun read, as well as the first appearances of alistair smythe, the spider slayer, and MJ. Hopefully i get a good perception of MJ going forward.
I know JJ Jameson is not precisely all things nice, but he overdid his evilness in this one. Still fun though. I too would hit that Peter Parker with a brick if I were Spiderman.
I enjoyed this one so much, as I usually do when JJ is scheming. Such a great balance of action, comedy, and drama. The fakeout with Aunt May at the end was unexpected and well done.
