Seems that when Klaus, Luther, and Diego popped off to try and meet five in Dallas, 1963…they missed the time and location by just a hair and ended up a few years earlier right in the middle of Vietnam. We start this issue as Diego, now going by Sarge, is being aided by a troop his found in the jungle to help him with one of Klaus schemes to save everybody. this scheme involves the mummy they are currently transporting and the imperative nature of getting it back to Saigon so it can wake up and destroy the Vietcong and send everyone home. Except that plan is immediately ruined when their regiment is attacked by vampire VC…did I also forget to mention that a chimp is part of their group…don’t question this timeline too much. Diego is able to fight back and get Klaus on the line to try and get some immediate backup…but with so much blood flying around everywhere , the mummy decides to wake up very angry. This is also the perfect moment to queue Luther back in, apparently he has been hiding in the jungle for 2 years to clear his head, so of course he shows up right when it’s time to swoop in and punch a giant rampaging mummy. He just needed a but of time to clear his head, lol. But I do have to agree with spaceboy, what else was he supposed to do? Go to the academy, get a job in falls at a soda fountain? None of those were an option and he is having a hard time dealing with the fact they can never have a normal life. Diego on the other hand has fully accepted that, and is the reason he’s been running around Vietnam all this time, it’s the only place crazy enough for him in 1963. Luckily Klaus, and his own chopper (and BABY?!) weren’t too far behind to pick them up. Diego bid farewell to what was left of the regiment he was with, but told them to meet him in 30 years to the day in DC at the monument they will put up for this war. I love that he did that so much, I can’t wait to see them meet back up again. But at the moment it’s time for them to head back to Klaus’ bar in Saigon…he’s got a new plan.

We now jump over to Dallas, where the time agency and their very “convincing” costumes are setting up for the big day. Five has allocated a few teams, he is going to run in with red team to try and talk to old man five and more than likely die in the process, blue team is going to stick to the plan and avoid getting caught, and white team is the escape and the puppy stays safe with them. “All right—let’s go kill us a president—before someone gets a crazy idea to try and stop us.”

Back in Saigon, in the back of Klaus’ strip club, he has a plan for them to get all the way across the world in time for the Kennedy assassination…their very own home brewed televator! Built by none other than…POGO?! Yep, it’s really this time’s pogo. Klaus sent him a psychic message, and he dropped everything to come and help them because they needed it. Once they go back and prevent JFK from being killed then everyone in Vietnam will be pulled out in a few months with little fuss. Luther really wants to talk to him about the future but pogo isn’t hearing any of it:

Pogo: “Luther. I don’t want to know what you three are up to—I don’t want to know what happens. I can’t. We each play the part written for us. You can’t fight the future.”

Luther: “Well, we’re sure going to try.”

As they get ready to leave Klaus hands his child over to an older woman, and Luther is a bit stunned to realize that really is his baby. “Vietnam is complicated.”

none of this makes any sense; it's like two dudes got really high, started talking about their idea for a story and just "and then THIS happens!!" themselves to death.
