Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
About this time Johnny Storm was everywhere in Strange Tales and often popping up in ASM..trying to bromance Peter. Here Abner Jenkins/the BEETLE gets involved when Peter is gentlemanly to Doris Evans...Johnny's GF. The names Abner and Doris date this issue..a tad🙄🤔
After Amazing #20 this issue feels a little inconsequential but that's OK, not every issue has to be a classic. We have an appearance by The Beetle and The Human Torch. The Beetle is released from prison and schemes to use Johnny Storm's girlfriend, Dorrie, as a way of getting back at the Torch, Peter gets stuck between Storm and Dorrie and again between Beetle and Torch. It's like a regular ol' Marvel sitcom.
"I'm about as loved by my fellow citizens as J. Edgar Hoover is by the mafia" - Spidey in response to seeing residents of New York flee him.
NB. The Beetle looks like a reject out of a 1950s comic not 1960s. This wasn't a good luck.
It wasn't enough that Torch had problems with Spidey, now he's gotta have issues with Peter too? Maybe Torch and Betty should get together, since they're both so quick to be jealous of anyone and everyone.
The action was average here, and Torch has worn out his welcome for me, both here and in Strange Tales. Fantastic Four is just the right dose of him, I don't know why they thought he needed to be in three comics in one month.
After the character development in the last few issues, Peter is now feeling jealous again. Was the Torch back then like the main hero of Marvel, considering how often he appears? Well, Betty has become so stereotypically portrayed according to the one-dimensional women's image of the 60s, as oversensitive, easily offended, and solely focused on Peter, that it can definitely get on one's nerves, more in some issues than others, but Betty wasn't as bad at the beginning. But I guess we'll have to deal with it for now. Fortunately, everything regarding this aspect gets better over the time of the Amazing Spider-Man Series.

While the Beetle himself isn’t too compelling, the high-school drama between Spider-Man, the Human Torch, and their respective girlfriends is the standout storyline here. I quite enjoyed the dynamic between the two heroes, and it continues the tradition of making Peter Parker highly relatable.
Ugh Betty Brandt I thought you were into Ned but still cry anytime Peter is seen with another woman? Peter’s woe is me mentality also gets tiring in this issue.
The Beetle. The Human Torch. Ah well, not every issue can be a winner. This was just passable, but I'm already a firm fan of Spider-Man so pretty much every issue is passable to me.
I seem to have missed reading this issue of ASM (I don't remember reading it). Trying to fill in my 'ASM gaps' - so I read this issue today. Great early meeting between Spidey and the Human Torch! This rivalry has been going on for so long; nice to take this trip to the past! Ditko's art is amazing - still wonder how many more classic villains we would have if he would have stuck around! A fun quick trip back to a simpler time.
