Successful engineering executive, Jack Rothman thought he was finally free to be the Dom he was meant to become. His submissives, Rory Campbell and Spencer Hartley are soon to be married, and his place as their Dominant is unshakable. Then Jack loses the one thing a Dom requires…control over his life.
Rory can’t wait to get married but she can’t marry both of her men—not in the eyes of the law or her overbearing, critical parents. She must find the courage to tell her parents the truth about her poly relationship, despite the sudden absence of her Dominant’s strength. If she wants the happily-ever-after wedding she’s always dreamed of, she’ll have to learn to fight for it on her own.
Spencer knows that lies are a poison that destroys from within. Now that he’s come to terms with his bisexuality, he’s ready to settle down with the woman he loves and the man he can’t live without. Only the future that seemed so bright is in danger of being swept out of his hands. He’s watching his fiancée fall apart, his Dom fade away and there’s nothing he can do about it…or is there?
Alyssa Turner is every woman and like no other. The one who stares into space while standing in sensible shoes at the supermarket, and you wonder what she might be thinking. Few things make her smile like the rush of creativity—she’s addicted. When she isn’t writing, she’s cooking dinner or washing clothes…or dreaming up her next delicious scene. She enjoys writing in several sub-genres, including ménage and sci-fi and has several full-length epublications currently available. Her debut publication was a short in Best Women's Erotica 2011, edited by Violet Blue. More shorts appear in print anthologies from Xcite Books and Cleis Press, with the illustrious editors, Miranda Forbes and Rachel Kramer Bussel.
Rory Campbell, Spencer Hartley and Jack Rothman are in a polyamorous relationship. Their union is further distinguished as Jack is a Dominant and Rory and Spencer are his submissives. This is a new discovery for Rory and Spencer while Jack has freely expressed and explored his sexuality for quite some time. They’ve now been together ten months and Rory is planning her wedding to Spencer and commitment to Jack by also taking his name. Meanwhile, Jack’s new business is in trouble, not because of his competency but due to some really dark elements.
This story is fascinating on so many levels. First, the Dom/sub relationship is portrayed so authentically, distinguishing the behaviors inside and outside of the bedroom. Yes, sexual norms are on full display, erotic and sensual, but what was more enlightening were the everyday dynamics between the three. Next, the dark forces that descended on Jack’s company triggered much more than a typical reaction in him. He’s a Dominant and he has the added desperation of performing in that role as caretaker for his submissives. It drives many of the decisions he makes to protect them within the context of that role. And lastly, their unusual relationship is always subject to judgment by family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and others. The reactions were diverse, ranging from being fully supportive to estrangement or outright rejection. It was interesting to consider the many ways this type of relationship is impacted in everyday life.
This is a duet narration using four performers. I’ve come to love this format, especially when all three characters are interacting with each other. The performance was excellent and the narrators were excellent in distinguishing their characters, too.
There was a lot of tension and suspense related to Jack’s business issues, quite scary in fact. I was riveted by this part of the story. I also enjoyed the family drama as it gave me lots of insight into how Rory, Spencer and Jack were shaped by the people who raised them. While the sexual scenes were highly erotic and sensual, they didn’t eclipse the heart of the story, which was the strength and depth of the emotional bonds between the three. There were so many layers and this is one of the best polyamorous stories I’ve read in a long time.
(I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an unbiased review)
The first half of this book is frustrating for the characters and this reader as Jack lands himself in a situation that he doesn't see a way out of - especially because he's not confiding in the ones he loves and takes on burdens that should be shared. His secrets eat at him and create trouble within the triad. I do appreciate that the characters were kept true to who we were introduced as in book one, even if I wanted to reach out and repeatedly biff Jack.
I like when things start to turn (safe word - nail polish) and Jack begins to make amends and clean things up. The heat levels also skyrocket with this change, which I always love! And then there is that HEA! Oh my. 🍆🍆🍑🔥🔥🔥🔥💥🎉 *fanning self*
Some housekeeping items: This is part of a duet but the author has a recommended reading order that has you reading this, the second book, after Polished, Unmeasured, and Make Me. There are characters that crossover and become big parts of this book. Although, you can just read the duet, if that's your preference.
The other thing is that I listened to the audio book I received from the author. This is the first time I've listened to one with five narrators! It reminded me of a table read for a play with so many voices. It took a little getting used to but Alyssa may have just spoiled me for other menage and RH audio books. 😁😁 The narrators had different accents and were fun to listen to. They were Erin Bateman, Adam Riley, J. Hawkins, Jack Walters, and Vivianna Marlowe.
I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review In the book Polished we met Jack, Rory and Spencer who become a poly couple. In Swept we find the triad navigating life. Rory is stressed out worrying about what her parents are going to think of her taking the guys names while planning a wedding to Spencer. Jack is having problems with his business a business that he forced is dad out of. Jack has the Russian mob breathing down his neck and if he doesn't get in bed with them his company will go belly up and in the process he loses his Dom which has Spencer and Rory worried they are waiting for him to come to them and talk. We also meet Oleg who is also a Dom and the nephew to the Russian mobster that's working with Jack he is also the Dom of Samantha the sister of Kyle from Make Me. I liked how Rory was able to stand up to her parents about what she wants for her wedding and the people she loves. The sex scenes in this book were hot and I loved it. This book was really well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. If you like reading M/M/F BDSM than I recommend that you read Polished and Swept. I am hoping that Ms. Turner write about Sam and Oleg and if she does I can't wait to read it.
I have to admit that I read this installment before I knew that this was a follow up to Polished. As far as I’m concerned, this totally worked as a standalone. The Author did a very good job of “cluing” me in on each character’s past as well as who they were as individuals. Now that I’ve admitted to that, lets get down to the review, shall we?
This is the first MFM read that I’ve read where there is one true Dom with two submissives (one female/one male). Usually both males are the Dom over a female Sub. What a breathe of fresh air. It was so nice to read about a submissive male who is bisexual and becoming comfortable within his own skin. Here’s the twist that I loved most about this. Both submissives started out with just each other (read Polished), bringing the Dom in to the relationship. Although both submissives love each other beyond belief, they were missing something in their relationship, which the Dom has been able to provide.
Ok, so all of the above you basically get from Polished and a recap within this read. Here’s where the story becomes even more interesting. Jack, the Dom, is the president of a successful engineering company his father founded, but he hasn’t been able to close a deal in months. He’s starting to consider bankruptcy along with other options when he’s given an offer “he can’t refuse” from the Russian mob. Seriously, he literally can’t refuse the offer. This causes a ridiculous amount of stress, which trickles in to his relationship with Rory and Spencer, his Subs.
While Rory and Spencer are planning their wedding, it becomes apparent that there is something wrong with Jack. He stopped being the Dom in the relationship and even when they try to get him to engage in scenes, he just can’t focus. Bad timing to say the least considering Rory “needs” his Dom abilities to help keep her from losing her poo. Can Spencer step in as the Dom she needs in order to keep her sane? Will Jack pull himself together long enough to realize that all he needs is right in front of him?
Awesome story. Awesome lessons to be learned all the way around. I would absolutely continue this story if the author decides to write another installation…maybe the next triad (hint hint).
* I received this book from the JeepDiva in exchange for my honest review.
Arc.... I love Jack, Spencer and Rory together. Jack, the strong sexy dominant, lost his way a bit, trying to give Rory and Spencer everything they've dreamed. He ended up doing things he didn't want to, and his anger was pushing the two most important people in the world to him away. With his confidence shakey, and trying to figure out where he fits into this relationship, he almost loses it all. Rory, finally stands up for herself, announcing what kind of relationship they have, and sees that not everyone is going to accept or agree with her life style. She finally got some balls and realized that all that matters is love that she shares with Jack and Spencer. This is a beautiful story of 3 people, who love honor and cherish each other, although this maybe taboo for some, this works for them, and together they can overcome anything thrown at them. Sweet, loving, risky, respectful, and so very sexy!!!!!! This was fantastic
Swept is the follow up stand alone to Polished. It can technically be read as a stand alone but I definitely recommend reading Polished first. It will help to understand the background of these characters.
Polished is one of my favorite ménage books. When I read a ménage, for me what makes it a great book is when all three members of the trio are all willing partners. What I mean by that is there are some books I felt that one of the characters felt left out or wasn’t 100% sure that they were ok with it. But Polished is not like that at all and that is what I loved. The connection between the characters is what made this story fantastic.
Just to give a little background story for those who have not read Polished. Rory and Spencer are in love and plan on getting married. They are so adorably cute together. They are best friends and lover sand you can see that. They share everything and even these little moments that just melt your heart. They are just so in sync and so perfect together. The chemistry and connection is there but there is something missing for Spencer and that is his desire to be with a man. Now Rory loves Spencer enough to let him indulge a little. But when they meet Jack Rothmann they realize that they were both missing something. Jack is able to give them both what they needed, that neither could provide for each other. And that is how this trio came to be.
Swept is the follow up to their love story. Rory and Spencer are still planning on getting married but Jack will also be a part of them as well. Jack is a Dom and is now Rory and Spencer’s master. While a part of Spencer felt the need to be with a man, Rory realized that always being in control in her life she needed some sort of dominance in the bedroom. And what she needs is not something that Spencer can give her. But the three of them together are so connected, so in tune with each other and just so amazing together. Never once did I ever feel that anyone was left out or felt out of place. They all loved each other equally and when they were together, my god was it hot!!!
In Swept, we see both Rory and Jack having issues that they have to deal with and Spencer trying to hold his family together. With their upcoming nuptials, Rory has to tell her parents the truth about who Jack really is. He isn’t just an experiment for her and Spencer. He is a part of them. And Jack has issues that he is facing with his business which causes him to loose focus when it comes to his relationship. While spencer is trying to understand what is going on he is also trying to keep them together. He feels like he is losing Jack which in turn also affects Rory and he will not let that happen. Will they be able to work through their troubles?
As I mentioned earlier the connection between these three characters is the type of connection that you just feel so deeply about. They just clicked. There is really no other way to explain it honestly. They were each others best friends, lovers and their world. Rory and Spencer were soul mates but together with Jack they feel complete and whole. It is really a beautiful love story that I really enjoyed so much. I had no idea that Ms. Turner was writing a follow up to their story but I when I found out I could not have been more excited. Swept is the story of three people trying to hold onto their love. It is not easy to live their life so differently from others, especially without being judged. And not just by people they don’t know but by family as well. There are struggles, but these three love each so deeply that you know they will work it all out. This is a very sweet and sexy read. Trust me when I say that Alyssa Turner knows how to write very HOT and very Sexy BDSM scenes between two males and one female. Have a fan ready because you will need it. Absolutley loved this one and so happy that we got to see more of them.
I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great follow-up to Polished. Jack is a dominant to his two subs, Rory and Spencer. Rory and Spencer had been a couple before they met Jack, but Jack really completed their relationship. They both craved dominance, and Spencer was afraid of his bisexuality, but Jack made everything work between them. Fast forwarding to Swept, Jack's jerk of a father made business decisions that impact Jack's life in this story. Jack feels like he's being forced to act less than ethically in his business which impacts his ability to be the dominant Rory and Spencer need. Jack acts almost impotent with them while he's trying to figure out a way out of his business issues. He beats himself up and thinks he doesn't deserve them, and they totally don't understand because he hasn't told them what's going on. There's also a side thread about Rory admitting to her family that she's really marrying two men, even if she can only legally be married to one. She has felt a lot of pressure to be the "perfect" child ever since her brother came out, and she's sure this revelation about their relationship won't really go over well with them. She's not wrong. And of course with three people, there's going to be some hot sex... this story does not disappoint in that area.
Rory and Spencer are getting married and want to include Jack. Drama ensues with Rory's parents and Jack is encountering difficult ethical/moral issues with his business that his father had left for him to deal with. Jack isn't dealing well and shuts both Rory and Spence out. How do two submissives deal with their dom not being dominant?
4 Star review Swept (Polished #2) by Alyssa Turner
I listened to this on audible and all the narrators did a credible job. This was a very hot and passionate book which is a MMF with elements of BDSM.
Swept was a more intense listen/read than the first book in the series and had me invested right from the start and it was certainly just as, if not more, steamy.
What happens when your dominant looses his desire to dominate? That is the position that Spencer and Rory find themselves in when Jack becomes distant and withdrawn. They all love each other, there is no doubting that, but Jack seems to have pulled back from the dynamic of their relationship.
Struggling with issues at work and the fact that he is close to bankruptcy, Jack makes hard decisions that go against everything he believes in and that has a knock on affect with his relationship with Spencer and Rory.
Will Jack finally believe that he is good enough for Rory and Spencer, or will his insecurities bring their relationship down? Will Rory have the courage to confront her parents and tell them the truth not only about her relationship with both Jack and Spencer but also about the wedding they are planning? Can Spencer hold the relationship with the people he loves more than life itself together as they all struggle to come to terms with the changes that have occurred?
Again the narration sounded tin like. I am now guessing that was on purpose. Nope didn’t like that.
You know when you read a book and you're like oh I need more, I thought being as we already knew the characters this book would be the cherry on top.
It fell flat or me, book 1 was better. I felt like Rory wasn’t the same character. I felt like Jake was more concerned about money. I felt like Spencer was weak and he wasn’t like that at all in book 1.
I liked the BDSM aspects of this story but again I feel like we were missing who the characters were.
Rory Campbell, Spencer Hartley and Jack Rothman have been together for a year now, and their menagé has never been stronger. If only Jack could say the same about his solo business venture. Turned down at every job he bids on, Jack is starting to panic, how will he take care of Rory and Spencer if he can't win jobs!? When the Russian mob makes him an offer he can't refuse, Jack is disgusted with himself, and his relationship with the couple suffers.
Rory and Spencer know something is going on with their boyfriend and Dom, but he's not talking. Rory's insecurities that she worked so hard to overcome sneak back in. In short, the threesome is a mess. With Spencer and Rory's wedding day looming, something's got to give.
SWEPT is the follow up novel to Ms. Turner's uber erotic Polished and set in the same time and setting as Make Me, with some crossover characters there as well. Not a traditional series, each book can be read on its own…but why would you want to since they're all emotional, sexy and oh, sooooo delicious! Jack was an absolute train wreck in SWEPT, a huge departure from his put together Dom persona in Polished. Spencer came off as a total doormat disguised like a peacekeeper. His excuses for Jack's behavior made me want to smack him. And poor Rory, her insecurities and stress needed an outlet badly, one that only Jack and his dominance could provide, but he refused to give it to her, making them all miserable.
This book was well written and a blisteringly hot look into the private lives of a menagé in trouble. Ms. Turner didn't skip over the tough stuff, instead diving right in and letting us see the messy along with the awesome. I'm hoping that there are more books to come in this New York world that she's developed!!
Bottom Line: Count me as one of Ms. Turner's biggest fangirls, since girl knows her way around a yumtastic menagé! I can't wait to pick up more from this talented author! - See more at: http://glbt.theromancereviews.com/vie...
This was a pretty good story. I first encountered Rory, Spencer and Jack in the book Polished which tells the story of how the trio came together. This book continues their story about a year after they got together in the first book.
The trio are happily together but there are some issues. Jack's business is in trouble and it soon becomes apparent that he's been targeted by some unsavory characters as a "business partner". The deal would give him the money he needs to keep his business going but he's not happy about getting involved in a situation where he has little to no control while dealing with dangerous people. This affects Jack and causes his Dom abilities to be off which affects both Spencer and Rory, more specifically Rory. Poor Rory is trying to plan her wedding to Spencer and her mother wont stop intruding and trying to change what Rory wants. There's also some issues with Rory's parents not being very accepting of Jack being in their life as a permanent feature. So yeah...there's some stress going on for the trio. Thankfully, Jack, Spencer and Rory work well together so even when someone isn't pulling their weight, the other 2 can help take up the slack. With some time, some talk and some good fortune, Jack , Spencer and Rory are able to resolve their issues...not always perfectly but as best they can. The story ends with the trio doing well and starting a HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I still liked all 3 of the MCs but it was painful at times to see them having issues. With Jack, I could see so many bad scenarios as he got pulled into his situation and while it didn't go nearly as badly as it could have, wondering how bad it would be was a bit of a downer. :P Regardless, I liked the continuation of their story overall and would recommend it for fans of Polished. I'm not sure if I'd call it a standalone though...I'd read Polished (which I really liked) first. :)
This is supposed to be the stand-alone follow up to Polished, however I would recommend reading Polished first for a richer experience because of the backstory. I have read Polished & I would have feel like a lot was missing had I not already had that background.
I enjoyed seeing these guys be friends with the characters from Make Me, I thought that was a nice touch.
Oh yummy, this one was way hotter than Polished. I wished that Jack would have been more up front with them sooner then he did. I loved the wedding ceremony between the three & glad Spencer's Mother was there. Hope there will be other books in this series in the future.
What an awesome book! I was totally in awe reading their story, so good. This is the 2nd book finishing up the Rory, Jack & Spencer's story and it was really so well written. And it was so so GOOD!!!!!!!!! You've got to read these books.
4.5 stars I remember briefly meeting Rory, Jack, and Spencer at the end of Make Me, and although I found it awfully convenient for a new-to-the-area triad to meet another triad, I figured what the heck. I myself know a triad (for lack of a better word), and so in my mind, anything was possible.
I need to address the Russian mafia aspect of the book, since it was the catalyst for the relationship nightmare that the three experienced. I wish I could say that it was too much, but the reality, whether it be in the U.S. or even in Canada, the mafia is present, and exerts a surprising influence on government and business alike. What I felt made this different in Swept was that Jack didn’t want to go along with the corruption, with the virtual guarantee of making piles of money, but gives in because of pride. Jack is no one’s patsy, until his family is at risk. To be honest, Jack’s pride and stupid decision-making bugged me, but it was true to form for his character.
One word...WOW!!! This book was beyond incredible. This was the steamiest but incredibly loving book I have read this year. I didn't read the first book and I was by no means lost. I am so happy to have been privileged to read this arc.
Rory, Spencer, and Jack are in a committed, loving, steamy Dom/ sub relationship. Spencer and Rory had had their insecurities and they were fortunate to find Jack to be their dominant. Together they all broke down their walls and became the happiest they have ever been in their lives.
Jack had some secrets that threatened to tear their relationship apart. I tore through these pages to read more. I just had to see that they could make it through these tough times.
I highly recommend one clicking this. I guarantee hotness and utter devotion. I would rate this 10 stars if I could.
I didn't realize when I started this there was a prequel, so even though this is a stand alone you might consider reading Polished first.
This is a story about three people in love. It takes you through them telling their families about their unique MMF relationship and how they plan to be married and share their bond. Not everyone's family is on board. There is both a wedding and a collaring ceremony. I wish the MM coloring was part of the ceremony. But I thought it was beautiful.
This is my first time reading this author. It might have been a 5 star had there not been so many grammatical errors.
I had a blast ,with my BDSM adventure with Jack Rothman and Rory Campbell and Spencer Hartley....I'm also glad that Rory told her parents about her poly relationship....so definitely the cat is out of the bag to her parents! Will definitely be watching for more Alyssa Turner books in the future...would like to wish the author luck on the rest of her books...! And a wonderful 2016!
Great one to read... gave readers another glimpse into the relationship with the menage from a prior book that Alyssa wrote back in 2013 called Polished
I enjoyed the first book, thus following it immediately with this one. It doesn't feel like the same characters, and not in a good way.
**Frustrated spoilers ahead! **
Jack has been a self-assured bi Dom and businessman for years. Until this book. Now there's the Russian Mafia getting all up in his business, ruining his self-confidence, and thus Dom-blocking him.
Rory and Spencer pretty much just exist as Jack's subs and family drama. I think they still work or do, you know, something, but this is almost all Jack's show. Oh, Rory does talk to Rebecca, a not-so-subtle pimp of other books by the same author in total TMI conversations.
Everyone else is either totally cool with the BSDM poly lifestyle, or hates it. Pretty much no in betweens, though one tertiary character changes sides partway through.
The (relatively rare) kink and Dom level is ramped up enough to nearly be another character - they've gone from play as a side dish to the main entree. Some of it just seems to be violating several laws of physics.
An example of the writing that describes my feeling about this sequel :
"The stench of this whole thing had been following Jack like he had two pounds of old sushi in his pockets. He was disgusted with himself. Closing his eyes and opening them again, Jack took a deep, cleansing breath..."
Audio review This is a hot spicy listen. It’s a subject that is growing in popularity. Love how the author picked narrators for each character. The story is well developed, with lots of layers . These are and can be real life issues and how someone can handle them . It’s also a fantasy that most of us want to experience but something is stopping us .
The chapters are Jack, Spenser and Rory The ménage couple have been together now , Rory and Spenser are the Subs in the ménage . Jack is a strong Dom but his everyday like is affecting him outside of the household but more importantly within the household.
Jack doesn’t know why but everything in business is falling away . He needs to grab a grip on it . What Jack is going through is affecting Rory and Spenser wedding day . The threesome right now is in a rut . Will everything work out before the big day. Grab it and find out
The narrators were great. They did the characters perfectly. You knew when each character was done. The voices were clear, strong and steady
This was a very exciting and emotional continuation to Polished.
Great Performance, although there were a couple instances were I got confused since I didn't know where a new scene ended and the other began because there was barely a pause in between (this means, I was so enthralled that I was able to caught them when the spell was broken). So for that I rated this awesome performance with 4.5 Stars
The storyline was entertaining, captivating and at times intense. Love the fact that characters were put on more realistic and believable situations, like Spencer's mom or Rory's parents. Jack had it easy with Spencer and Rory, they were too understading and patience, even though Jack was disregarding his responsabilities as their Dom due to the stress cause by the Russian Mob. (I hate Jack's father).
All in all, it was a very enjoyable read/listened, which I highly recommend!!
I really enjoyed Polished. Jack, Spencer, and Rory’s story was a sweet and beautiful meeting of damaged hearts that were able to find healing in each other’s love and discovered that they were imperfectly perfect as a triad. Swept was more serious and intense, but still painted a realistic picture of a struggle many couples have about letting go of vulnerabilities and shortcomings and allowing your partner(s) be there to walk with you and help carry each other’s burdens. Alyssa Turner thoughtfully wrote Jack and Rory’s inner struggles, that ultimately effected their relationship with Spencer and each other, with a delicate realistic insight that’s easy for the reader to relate to. Enjoy both books as a duo. And enjoy the completion of Jack, Rory’s, and Spencer’s happily ever after.

This was not quite as good as the first as it starts out a year later and we miss the bonding that was actually happening. We are start out with things going wrong more or less as the wedding between Spencer and Rory getting out of hand by her mom and Jack being forced into working with the Bratva. That whole theme just did not quite ring true it was off for me. I did enjoy most of the BDSM portions which for the most part had a true ring to it. I appreciated the inner connection the three of them had even when Jack was going through his crisis Rory and Spencer were true blue to him. I will be reading on for Sam and her Russian Dom's story. I would have appreciated more background on Jack's life as a Dom
Finding out that Alyssa wrote a sequel to Polished made me happier than I should ever admit! I thought the drama in Polished was intense but it was nothing compared to this. Where the first book was about the characters discovering their true wants and desires, book 2 is about trying to navigate the life as a triad; the struggles of finding their place in both life and the relationship. Yes, some of the drama was a little over the top, but I wouldn't have it any other way! I love books like this and cannot wait to read more!
The narration was good but I wish the audio editor would have made Jack's parts more seamless.
