Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

After his brutal battle with the Vulture, an unconscious Spider-Man lands in police custody, setting up a tense standoff as officers debate whether to unmask him. Captain Stacy, ever the voice of reason, insists on waiting for legal guidance—because even in Silver Age comics, bureaucracy takes precedence over superhero drama!

The real action kicks in when a group of prisoners seize the moment to stage a jailbreak, taking Captain Stacy hostage in the process. In a twist of irony, Spidey—now on the run himself—ends up leading the charge against the escaping convicts, making for an unexpected but exciting sequence.

Romita Sr.’s art remains top-tier, especially in the chaotic prison setting, but the real crime of the issue? MJ’s unfortunate Raggedy Ann hairstyle, a style choice that didn’t stick around for long.

While this issue serves as more of a transition between major villain arcs, it still packs solid action, tension, and character moments, making it a fun and worthwhile read!

7/10 - Prison Break

A more interesting issue that it seemed at first sight and a nice conclusion to the story arc, that brings a rest from the frenzied paced previous issue.

Stan was capable of properly transmitting the tension and risk of the prison break and Spider-man's fear of his identity be revealed.

I like how the relationships between the different characters and Spider-man himself develop and change over time, making them real and no one-dimensional characters.

By the way, it can only happen in comics that you take a break to phone your elderly aunt, halfway down your prison escape.

J.J. Jameson is a hyperbole of a character, but so well done that he is enjoyable.

It's sad to see at this point to Mary Jane wasted since some issues ago. She has slowly developed into a secondary, insignificant and empty-headed character.

I love those hints that link the series between them, in this case Foggy as the law counselor.

5.5/10

Again, nothing really important happens in this story. But starting this issue Jim Mooney takes over the inking. His lines are quite thicker and some characters look changed a bit. I think Don Heck and Mickey Demeo did a finer inking, but I won't complain. John Romita's art still looks spectacular.

Spidey is left unconscious after his battle with the Vulture and the police debate using the opportunity to de-mask him:
“Whaddaya think, Cap’n Stacy? Maybe we should take his mask off while he’s just lyin’ there?”
“I wouldn’t do it, Tom! Not without expert legal advice!” – Captain Stacy

In an issue were Spider-Man leads a prison break the biggest crime remains to be MJ’s Raggedy Ann hairdo.
