J.R. Rain is the author of 110 novels and counting. He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where he's hard at work on his next novel... and fighting off sparkly vampires.
I originally planned to write a short review for all of the stories, but in the end I lost my notes and some of the stories blended together in my head, therefore I will just in general review the anthology, but there will be short reviews for the first three stories.
After these first three, the rest of the collection followed the same paths. Some I liked, others less. I wasn't that impressed with Weeper of Blood, which for a lot of people seems to be the reason to read this anthology. I think it's probably because I haven't read anything else in the series. On the other hand, I did quite like the short story from the Tome of Bill even though I was unfamiliar with that series as well.
~ My Big Fat, Accidental Superheroine Wedding ~ 2.5 Stars
I don't know with this story. It felt like I had missed a lot of the story by not having read anything else from the series. Not sure this was the right story to start the collection with. It was a weird kind of bizarre story including multiple superheroes with superpowers differing in apparent usefulness and an Amish wedding.
~The World, My Enemy ~ 3.5 Stars
I was really looking forward to this story as I quite enjoyed Otto von Trapezoid last autumn. This story takes place when he's still living with his parents in Vienna. It's bizarre, sometimes too much so, but I liked it.
~ Summer of Lob ~ 2 Stars
I think this could have been a really nice short story, but I had a serious problem getting into the story. It was probably just me, but it was not for me at this time at least.
Kindle Unlimited which is how I got it, and while I didn't luv it didn't hate it, just as with most anthologies, and more so with this one since pretty sure have not read any of the writers before, there were some just didn't like for versious reasons, but it definitely was worth a read so give it a go.
~~~ Weeper Of Blood (Chronicles Of Nightfall) by Kapov Kinrade ~~~
Enter The Weeper
This series must be read in order. This story may be read any time after the first book. I am unsure exactly where it falls in the series otherwise. The first book is Court Of Nightfall. The second book is House Of Ravens. The third book is Night Of Nyx. The fourth book is Song Of Kai. I can't wait to read Daughter Of Strife!
Scarlett is still learning her place in this world as both a Pat Initiate in the Orders and a Nephilim leader of The Dark Templars Rebels. One thing she knows it that, no matter what, she wants to save people (no matter their designation or class) from injustice and oppression. With Zorin away on some mysterious errand, she and the Dark Templars have been left to their own devices. The Dark Templars have been searching for a mad scientist named The God-Maker since before they were the Dark Templars... And now they seem to have found him. As well as a murdered known as The Weeper who has been leaving bodies and terrorizing the city. How are the two connected? How should they handle this situation without Zorin? Can Nightfall and the Dark Templars prevail without him against these two monsters?
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy futuristic post postapocalyptal sci-fi paranormal fantasy action adventure mysteries full of intrigue, thrills, epic struggles and a dash of maybe romance and quite a bit of tragedy set in Dystopian societies rotten to the core :)
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.
I honestly was pleasantly surprised by this book. I am NOT a superhero person in that I have seen some of the superhero movies, but I'm not one of those ones who is first in line to every movie and absolutely infatuated with all things superhero. The only story I expected to love was the one by Karpov-Kinrade because it was a Nightfall story, and I absolutely love those books. I don't really consider the character of Scarlett as a traditional superhero, but I guess she kind of is in a nontraditional way. When I think of a superhero, I think Superman, Spiderman, Batman, etc., and while there were some stories that could maybe fit close to that thinking, there were a lot of nontraditional superhero stories in here, and I found myself genuinely liking quite a bit of them. There were a couple stories that didn't really grab me, but I would say out of the 10 included, about 6-7 of them I really enjoyed. I think for anyone who enjoys stories about good winning over evil, a couple of bad-ass women, and intriguing plots, you would enjoy this book. If you like superheros, both traditional and nontraditional, then you will REALLY like this book.
While I did read several of the novellas included in this set, I was only interested in this anthology for the Nightfall novella, Weeper of Blood.
Nightfall has a new nemisis - Weeper, so called because of the calling card left at the crime scenes where Weeper has killed someone. Zorin is MIA, and so Nightfall (Scarlett), Trix, and TR must deal with the issue at hand. And, in the end - they not only manage to deal with the issue, but also reunite family.
It is unclear where this novella falls in the plot line of the series so it can be read at any point without feeling that you are missing details. As usual for this series it is packed FULL of action, suspense, and a fantastical reality that is based in the future. I love the Nightfall Chronicles, and this novella does not disappoint!
This is a great collection of authors bringing there own unique stories to the table. This review is for My Big, Fat, Accidental Superheroine Wedding by J.R. Rain & Kris Carey: I really wasn't sure what to expect then I started reading this one, though I enjoy J.R.'s work this is my very first superhero book. I was pleasantly surprised how much I actually enjoyed it. It was fun, exciting and humorous. Mira and Giancarlo are very likeable and sweet.
Really enjoyed Weeper of Blood the Nightfall Chronicles Novella included in this book. It was nice to see Scarlett (Nightfall) take care of a situation while Zorin is away. It shows how she is growing more confident in her role as Nightfall. She coordinates with Trix and TR to help her resolve this situation with the Weeper of Blood. It was nice to see how they handled things and in the end how things worked. Can't wait to read more if Scarlett (Nightfall) in future reads.
This book explores the very essence of what constitutes heroism and villainy in one rip roaring tale after another. I will leave you with plenty to think about and a desire to hear more from every one of these characters. Sometimes that's possible, as these stories are welcome additions to existing narratives. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and now have several new authors to seek out the other works of. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've been trying to get into the story for a while now (literally a month). I think that I probably didn't pick this up at a good time; I was only able to finish one short story and didn't really enjoy it. The other short story I've been trying to read is difficult to get into. I feel terrible for not finishing because this was sent to me via Netgalley. I would like to thank them for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me.
I Liked most of these. Two of them don't really seem to be about superheroes
I liked most of these stories, and found them worth the time to read. two of them are not really superhero stories. I must admit I did not like the last story at all - not only not about a superhero (tough we are sort-of told the protagonist, and possibly another character have SOME super-human abilities) but in general, too mystical for me, I guess.
I received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a review for Weeper of Blood
I love the Nightfall series and this short story is no exception. It's is filled with my favorite characters plus some new ones. Packed full of the usual danger and suspense. Non stop action. I can't wait for more of this series.
