Re High Risk - Emma Darcy gets the seekrit baby trope in HPlandia's April of 1992, and because ED's favorite kinda story is the sweet princess rescued by the knight in shinning armour trope, ED brings us a tale of two really nice and cuddlesome people who where separated by a huge misunderstanding and an evil OW.
The book starts with the recovering from illness 26 yr old h. She and her child recently returned from Fiji to Australia and they ran into some very bad luck. The h got extremely ill and had to be hospitalized. As she had no one to look after her seven yr old child, he was placed into care while the h was in hospital.
The h is now marginally better but child welfare is refusing to return her child to her, so the h has to go to the H. He is now a wealthy businessman that she knew eight years ago and had a brief affair with when he was a college student, until the h found out he was engaged to one of the witches in his social set and took off.
(There is actually a bit of subterfuge for almost half the book as to whether the h's son is the H's too. ED carefully works around that tidbit as she sets up the reconciliation between our long parted but forever in love H and h so it makes a nice little fillip in the book )
So the h needs the H's help and shows up at his office, his Dragon lady secretary who has a hidden heart of gold, makes the h wait since she won't go away and call back for an appointment. The H eventually recognizes the h and she asks him for his help, but she is still really weak and passes out,conveniently right into the H's arms.
The H decides he needs to keep the h around and he is going to be devious about it because it is clear that the h is reluctant to be around him. So he pretends that he has company owned apartment that is being redecorated and tells the h she and her son can use it while it is being refurbished. He does manage to convince the authorities to return the h's son to her as well, and soon he has the young man enrolled in his own childhood prep school.
The h evades any questions about the who the father is, but the H has his suspicions and the h is too worried over her rekindled passion for the H to use better evasive tactics. The h believes the H is still married and she also believes that the apartment is really an apartment leased by the H's business. So we get a bit of decorating with unusual delays and the H's Dragon Lady secretary comes to visit and help out. Things are proceeding nicely for the h, tho she actively avoids any contact with the H and is looking for job as a chef.
Finally the h sees a picture of the OW, who told the h she was engaged to the H all those years ago, with her fiance in the newspaper. There is also mention of a divorce being finalized and the h is overjoyed, cause now she thinks the H is free and she can make her play. The H and h reunite in a fiery lurve mojo explosion of bliss.
The next morning things are looking rosy until the h realizes that the H never married the OW that all the women had said the H was engaged to. The h is broken-hearted and now believes he is still married to someone else and she immediately decides to take a job at a hotel in the country and leave the H.
The Dragon Lady secretary comes over as the h is packing to leave and she yells at the h for being ungrateful. The H got the h's luxury Sydney harbour apartment specifically for the h and he even took a big potential loss risk because he needed a nice place for her right away. All the decorator things were the H's way of getting the h nice things to coddle her and all the decorator delays were excuses to keep the h in the apartment and 'helping' the interior decorator longer. The Dragon secretary also explains that the H's wife died of cancer a few years earlier almost right after the wedding. As soon as the h hears that the H's wife is dead, she immediately starts unpacking and sends the son off to the movies with Dragon Lady.
The H finally arrives and the big explanations begin. Eight years earlier the h met the H on holiday, they fell in love but the H's social set were major evil slime swillers and the lead sewer slurper woman pulled on a big ol' rock of an engagement and claimed to have been proposed to by the H - every other woman present backed that story and the h went off to her room to ponder things, cause that didn't seem to be the way the H would act.
The h waited for the H's return but when he got back, he only hung out with the OW and did not come looking for the h. The 18 yr old h took off and then found out she was preggers and took her son to Fiji after her mum died, until the h decided to move back to Australia and needed the H's help.
The H on the other hand, was tired of the OW's antics and told her to knock it off but the OW lied and said the h was out shopping while she kept talking to the H. By the time the H went looking for the h, she was gone and he had no way to find her. Tho the H spent YEARS trying to hunt the h down, he finally had to give up when his father died and he finally married cause he was lonely and wanted kids but then his wife got cancer and died too.
Through all of this the H loved the h, but he thought she was lost forever so he just got on with things. Now she is back and they are together and getting married and every thing is wonderful cause the H will do whatever he has to do to keep the h with him for the big HEA.
This one was pretty sweet, so really these folks are only visiting HPlandia to throw a knight in shinning armour rescue into the HP uber alpha mix and that doesn't make for a really dramatic HP wrecky drama fest.
ED does a great job on the cuddly characterizations and the story has a nice little pace, so pick this one up when you a need a tiny little HP infusion but don't want to have to commit to the possible drywall repair a more involved and emotional HP outing might bring.

Ceritanya bagus. Tentang Carrie sang ibu tunggal dan putranya. Dannie terancam diambil alih negara karena Carrie sakit dan dianggap tidak mampu untuk menghidupi Dannie.
Maka dengan berat hati Carrie pergi ke kantor Mr. James Savage, yang -Carrie tau pasti adalah kakek anaknya. Hanya saja, ternyata CEO di perusahaan itu bukan lagi Mr. Savage senior, melainkan Dominic Savage, ayah Dannie. Betapa kagetnya Carrie, ketika tahu hal ini.
Dominic bersedia membantu Carrie dan putranya dengan syarat mereka berdua harus tinggal di rumah Dominic. Carrie terpaksa mengiyakan karena kondisi dirinya saat ini. Tapi, ia terpaksa berbohong dengan mengatakan bahwa anak laki-lakinya bukanlah putra Dominic. Hal ini karena Carrie merasa dahulu Dominic lah yang mengusirnya. Padahal hal ini terjadi karena kesalahpahaman saja.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it isn't super special. I liked the characters and the plot. There wasn't as much anguish in this book as the last I read and I was a lot more relaxed in reading this. I liked the tough spots as well and the determination on the characters parts to try to stick together. The misunderstanding was cleared up in different parts and that spread the book out. I liked that and definitely have a better opinion of the 'dragon lady' towards the end than what I had started out with. I would enjoy reading this again but more for passing time or a rainy-day relaxing read. Enjoy
