Ibn Kathir, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with him, chronologically goes through the lives of the Prophets of Allah (SWT) that are mentioned in the Quran. From Adam (AS) to Muhammad (SAW), this book is densely packed with life lessons that have been extracted from the stories of these great men.
A favourite of mine is the story of Yusuf (AS) - the most detailed story in the Quran. There are many morals we can take from story of Yusuf (AS), who was exposed to jealousy, hatred, cruelty and terror at the hands of his own family, and later another family he became part of. How did Yusuf (AS) deal with this? With patience, bravery, compassion and nobility.
Whilst reading I kept thinking back to the Hadith: Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "Both in this world and in the Hereafter, I am the nearest of all the people to Jesus, the son of Mary. The prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one.”
It’s a relatively short, easy-to-read book full of wisdom that is a must read for everyone.
