In high school, they’d burned fast and hot. Now is their chance to find out if the sparks that linger will ignite a whole new flame.
The only thing Darcy Miller ever wanted more than gorgeous troublemaker Griffin Strong was to shake off the dust of small-town Revival, Illinois, and head to the big city—even if she had to leave him behind. Ten years later, Darcy is the ultimate New Yorker, writing a sex blog and living on designer cocktails and the pulse of urban life. That is, until she hears that Revival plans to seize her mother’s house right after the holidays, thanks to the new mayor—who is none other than Darcy’s ex…
Griffin couldn’t have asked for a more dangerous Christmas gift. Curvy, sassy Darcy is every bit as delectable as the wild child she was in high school—and just as determined to stir up problems. But Griffin learned long ago to straighten up and fly right in order to make changes in the town he loves. Keeping his reputation wholesome is a big part of that. If only Darcy didn’t make him want to take his place on the naughty list with her, right under the mistletoe…
This was a lovely, quick and steamy companion novel to the "Something New" series about second chances in love... God, it was so quick, but i enjoyed it so much!!! I never wanted to finish, as the most stories by Jennifer Dawson's pen... I met her books the last year and i'm loving every single one of them!!! And this one wasn't an exception...
Darcy Miller has to return in her hometown Revival, after twelve years that she left everything behind, in order to help her mother to save her house from the state... To succeed in that plan, she had to face the major of the town who's not anyone else than her ex boyfriend, Griffin...
"She was still that girl, but Griffin wasn't that boy. He was one of them."
Griffin used to be a troublemaker in his youth, but the twelve years that followed, many things have changed in his life... Now, at the age of thirty, he was a respectable man, the major of his little town and he was trying to do his best for the citizens of this town... The last thing that he needed was Darcy Miller to step back into his life and turn everything upside down!!! For God's sake, she is having a sex blog, something that might ruined a major, but it's so hard to stay away from her!!!
"He had no business doing anything with her. No business touching her. Darcy Miller was off-limits. A memory of his past that had to stay that way."
Darcy was hating Revival and everything that it represented... When she was younger, she was troublemaker and the people in this town never forgets... Her only dream was to leave everything behind and start over in the big city... even though that means to leave behind the love of her life...
And after all this years, she is back and she has to face the past and the man that she never forgot... A man so same and so different at the same time... A man that is making her heart beats wild and her legs to shake... But she is determined to win in this battle against him no matter what will be the cost... Will she succeed or she will lose her heart for once again???
"He's my weakness."
God, Griffin and Darcy were having such a chemistry between them... I loved them both fiercely!!!! When those two where in the same room, the air around them was thick and electrifying!!! I adore the way they were together... So, there will be a chance for those two???
"She couldn't come home and he couldn't leave. That left them with no future."
Griffin was very stable and even though that he was respectable and the major, so he had to be proper, his old ways and charming stayed untouched... and god, this dirty mouth of his!!!!
"I'm breaking all my rules for you."
Darcy was an independent woman who had her own theories... She was sassy, she couldn't hold back her tongue and she had some supressed bitterness because of the past.... Griffin was her only weakness...
"She wanted to be the woman he deserved. Wanted to love him the way he deserved."
I also liked very much that we met again some of the Donovan's and their matches... It was a wonderful suprise!!! Just like this book!!! Can't wait for the next jennifer Dawson's book!!!

Quick but very sexy read about a reformed bad boy and the girl that walked away. Darcy is back after her mom's home is threatened and this is an opportunity to address old hurts. She and Griffin have great chemistry and the novella does a good job of addressing key elements to ensure we get a complete story. Even in the short span the characterization allowed for growth in the MCs, more so in Darcy. I liked the sexy mayor's change to maturity even though at first, he gave the impression he'd given up some of the things that made him unique. Eventually, we did get to see he was still the bad boy Darcy loved, it was just contained in the bedroom. All in all a sensual short with just the right amount of sweet. Safety: No OM/OW/Sharing, despite all the town ladies being hot for the mayor. No rape or abuse.
Nothing makes me happier than discovering an author who I haven’t read before and absolutely falling in love with their writing and characterizations, from the first paragraph.
She’s My Kind of Girl is the first book I have read by Jennifer Dawson, and as book 4.5 in the Something New series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
Something about Darcy Miller had always reached inside of him and Squeezed.
Second-chance, with a side of frenemies is a really good mix for romance, and Darcy and Griffin’s story fulfilled every requirement I have in relation to it. Both kids from the wrong side of the tracks from a small town in Illinois, who fell in love with each other at a young age. But whereas one got out and pursued a life in the Big Apple, the other stuck around, cleaned up their act, and is now the town’s Mayor.
She was wild and he was reformed.
In fact it is Griff’s capacity as town Mayor that has caused Darcy to have to return to Revival, as his plans for vitalizing the town include running a bulldozer straight through her mother’s house, something she vows to fight against with any means she can.
He’d had more fun with her in the last five minutes than he had in the last year of dates.
I loved this novella, it was a really quick read, but it didn’t feel underdeveloped, the introduction to the town of Revival and its characters was broad, and you are also given updates on characters from the previous four books, none of which I have read, but am desperate to sink my teeth into now.
"Did you grow up? Or give up?"
The chemistry between Griff and Darcy sizzled from the beginning, this is a couple with a past and you can feel it from all of their interactions, add in a little bit of sexy, ad dash of Christmas sparkle, and I finished this novella with a smile on my face, my Amazon account credit is also a little lighter as well, as I ended up one-clicking all four previous books in the series.
"I’m breaking all my rules for you."
Jennifer Dawson is an author I have added to my auto-buy list after this novella, and I recommend that you check it out.

From the first page I knew this was going to be my kind of read. Loved the storyline, loved the characters, they were passionate, entertaining and they had amazing chemistry. Watching them reconnect and put aside past hurts kept me entertained and held my attention until the end.
I found myself connecting with Darcy's character right from the start. Loved her passion, her humor, she was sassy and admired her determination to do things her way and not give up everything she had worked for. Team Darcy all the way for me ;)
Griffin's character took a little while for me to warm to. But the more I saw them together exchanging words and trying to outsmart each other the more I warmed to him and by the end I had no doubt he was the perfect man for Darcy.
In closing, She's My Kind of Girl was a well written second chance love story and a wonderful addition to the Something New series. Each book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend them all.
Thank you to Kensington Books - Zebra via Netgalley for the advance copy.
This is a novella, but it had a lot of depth and was definitely more a full-length than a novella story. Griffing and Darcy were both likeable. And, you could understand where they were each coming from. Griffin had built a life in their small town, intentionally. And, just as intentionally, Darcy created a life in New York City.
It was interesting to see them fight their attraction, and then give into it, and then fight it again. The chemistry was explosive, the emotion honest. And, it tapped into an experience we have all had, whether in a romantic relationship or otherwise, the idea that we are going to have to give up something we want to keep something else we want.
The writing was strong and the packing was consistent. It made me want to read the other novels in the series. As it was a novella, there is not a lot to say about the book itself, it was short and mostly to the point without a lot of twists...but sometimes, that can be really refreshing.
-Am I ready for the holidays? Though I’m still in deep denial (Christmas is WEEKS away people!) I found myself enjoying this little holiday themed novella that’s part of Something New series (though could work as standalone). -The deal is this: Darcy vowed she would never return to her little town of Revival, and she most certainly would never see Griffin, the bad boy who broke her out and stayed behind when she flew the coop for New York. Years later, her mother is in danger of losing her house, Darcy comes back and finds out that alot of things have changed, including her ex (now Mayor of Revival) Griffin. Well you can guess what happens. Yep, a second chance romance. -Character building is on point, but it has to be in a novella. Ms. Dawson has a knack for crafting characters that can keep a reader engaged and believing in their connection. The firsts (meet, kiss, sex) are hot and makes the pages fly by, which made me a little sad because the story wrapped up before I knew it. Which leads me to... -Lack of page count has affected the main conflict which was a bit flimsy and resolved quickly. All in all, a sexy, little, tasty treat to tide me over ‘til the next Something New book. If you haven’t read Ms. Dawson’s books yet and you love character driven contemporaries, I encourage you to try her out.

She's My Kind of Girl is part of Jennifer Dawson's "Something New" series but each book can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger and a HEA. This is only the second book in the series that I have read, but I still really enjoyed it. Although I do have to admit that I think I liked the other one (The Name of the Game, #3) maybe just a teeny bit better. This one is a very quick read at a novella length so I read it all in one sitting.
Darcy is an award-winning author and blogger living in New York City. When her mom calls her to come down to her old hometown to help save her house she is less than pleased. She is even less happy to find out that her first love is now the town mayor and is the one responsible for her mother losing her house.
Griffin is very much the reformed bad boy. When he and Darcy were dating they drove the town's people crazy with their shenanigans, but once his mom got sick and he had to look out for his younger brothers he decided to grow up a bit. Now he is very involved in making the town succeed and become a better place for everyone.
I really loved how Darcy said pretty much anything that was one her mind and wasn't at all afraid to let you know how she felt about something. There was definitely a ton of chemistry between the two of them, but I guess you could say this one is more of a slow burn romance. It takes a while before they are finally "together".

I've never read author Jennifer Dawson before, but after reading She's My Kind of Girl you can bet I'll be checking out her other works. This is a novella that apparently is part of a series and while I'm most certain many of the characters in this book were featured in previous books, I didn't feel lost reading this one. High school lovers are reunited but on opposing sides of an issue making the tension between them even hotter. A second chance at love or just a lust filled romp? From beginning to end I was completely caught up in this story and felt every emotion as I watched two people meant to be together struggle with their feelings and torn between the love they once had and the lives they now have. Gut wrenching, sigh inducing and panty melting, I loved this story!
Returning home to the small town that taunted her, chewed her up and spit her out Darcy Miller wants nothing more than to help her mother save her home and then get back to New York as soon as she can, she just didn't expect to find her ex-boyfriend and once the town's bad boy turned mayor still so damn appealing. Griffin Strong can't believe his eyes when he sees Darcy again after so many years, one thing he knows is that the passion between them is still strong, but his first priority is what is good for the town and her mother's home is standing in the way.
The sparks between these two flew from the first encounter until the last and they never let up in between; in every conversation, in every touch, in every argument it was so easy to see that these two were connected in a very strong way.
While Griff has made peace with the town that once looked down on him, the same can't be said for Darcy which only increases the tension between them. They had some big differences and working through them was harder than either of them imagined.
She's My Kind of Girl packed a lot of excitement and sexiness into a small package and I enjoyed every minute of it.
E-ARC received thanks to the publisher via Netgalley.
Oh man. I've been a Jennifer Dawson fan since last year, I think? I picked up the second book in this series, The Winner Takes It All for fun and it blew me away.
Let me just say something about this series: it gets better. After I finished the third book, The Name of the Game, I was like, "How is Jen gonna top this? How is she gonna do it because this is pretty awesome." Then the fourth book, As Good As New came out and it wowed me again, and now I'm just repeating myself with this one.
Now, second chance romance is basically my ultimate favourite trope, so it's a no brainer that I devoured this one like four cheese topping pizza. I adore both Darcy and Griffin instantly when they were introduced on the page. I love Darcy's grit and the fact that she made a name for herself in New York, her determination to save her mother's house despite it being a losing battle from the get-go (Sorry, Darce). I love the way she always speaks her mind and stands up for herself. I love Griffin's reformed self, his passion for Revival, and his love for the townspeople.
Darcy and Griffin together? FIREWORKS. Their banter is so entertaining, and when they finally get together? Jen Dawson is basically the queen of writing sexy times, so I have no complaints ;)
Honestly when I found out that this was a novella, I admit I was a bit bummed because you know how unsatisfying novellas can be. Fortunately it's not the case with this one. She's My Kind of Girl reads like a full-length novel, and I'm utterly grateful for that.
Now I just need Sam Roberts' book and I'll be happy.
I was pretty bummed out that this was a novella and not a full length novel but again Dawson's passion for writing stood out in She's My Kind of Girl.
Darcy and Griffin were both likable characters in their own way I could see both sides on why they chose the paths they did but I loved how they got back together. While Darcy couldn't wait to get out of town and spread her wings, Griffin chose to stay and make a life for himself there, and even became major.
Their attraction to one another really sucked me in from the beginning. It was one of those slow burn attractions that you know once they get together it will be explosive and it was.
I felt the writing was strong and Dawson did a great job at pairing up this couple. They fed off one another well and I liked how well it just flowed. There wasn't a lot of drama which was a plus and this story really focused on them as a couple or I should say becoming a couple again. Overall a well written addition to this series.
While the depth of Griff and Darcy’s romantic relationship was fast paced and past lived I was entertained as they both had never let go of their feelings for one another. That in itself didn’t help me fall for them. But all the while I was able to read start to finish and was shocked when it ended too quickly. It felt like a novella. Gave a little, while wishing for more…..
Jennifer Dawson is an author that knows how to spice it up. Her heroes are fantasy material and the heroines hold all the cards. She's My Kind of Girl, puts Darcy in the driver seat and Griffin is her willing passenger. Young love and second chances are central to the theme of this story. Prodigal daughter Darcy returns just in time to stir up old love, Griffin's carefully orchestrated plans and ends up questioning her own life plans. Shorter than her usual stories but still delightfully entertaining.
This short little novella is a quick and cute read. I haven't read the others in the series but at a glance the characters loop through all the stories. This one focuses on Griffin, the now town mayor, once outcast bad boy and Darcy, once bad girl and friend of Griffin. Darcy never wanted to stay in their home town of Revival. Even after Griffin asked her to stay, to get married, she said no and left. Never feeling as though she belonged there. She leaves and goes to NY where she now has a career, and a semblance of a life yet her heart still lies with Griffin. Darcy's mother lures her home because the town is going to take her house away. This shack she calls home, that lies smack in the middle of a town renewal project that will bring new life and new businesses into the failing town. Darcy and Griffin meet once again and the steam factor is heavy duty. Even when they're arguing the heat pours off the page. Neither will give in. And in the end, she'll return to NY and leave him behind. You have to read the book to get the complete story. The was a novella, easy to read, good glimpse at the characters and the town. The two MC's are well rounded out and there's a fair amount of steam between them. It was a good read. **arc from Net Galley and Kensington** in exchange for an honest review
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Kensington via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is September 27th, 2016.
This is part of the Something New series however can be read as a stand alone. I have only read one of the previous stories and they are not required to understand this one.
This was one sexy story! I didn't know how long it was heading in to it but I finished it in one sitting. Short with a lot of steam packed in to it. This is not for those who want the "sexy time" to be mainly off the page. It is oozing throughout the whole story, in great detail. Darcy and Griffin have mad chemistry. The kind that would make it awkward to be alone in a room with them. But it was fun.
I can't say much about the plot because honestly the story was short and I don't want to give anything away. The synopsis explains it and then my review pretty much covers the rest.
For those that want something short with a high steam level, this is the read for them.
As teenagers their love and passion burned bright and fierce but it wasn't strong enough to hold Darcy Miller in Revival. She longed for city life and no amount of begging could get Griffin Strong to join her. When she left Revival's bad boy behind she never expected to see him again. Now, ten years later, she's back in Revival to help her mother save her home. Seeing Griff again is hard but seeing the changes in him make her crazy. Griffin has worked hard the last ten years to shake his bad boy persona and portray himself as the wholesome hometown guy. Now the Mayor of Revival, he plans to do everything he can to save his town. Sparks will fly as Griffin and Darcy are reunited and battle over her mother's property. Will Griff be able to keep that bad boy at bay or will Darcy convince him to come out and play??
A fun, sexy, quick read that was completely entertaining. I definitely recommend this one.
Short, steamy and sweet read... ..quick and well written... ..confident heroine and reformed bad boy hero...
You dont have to read previous books in the series but why not ( especially third one I liked that one the best)..each book revolves around different couple in small town Revival. Every time I have read Rivival I keep waiting for some gospel choir to appear. ..in one sitting read... good chemistry..( still waiting for Charlie's story)
Griffin sure can give some hot compliments, "without looking up he said, “Have I mentioned you look very effable tonight?” I loved this book, Griffin was so sexy and alpha he just made the panties wet.
She's My Kind of Girl is a novella #4.5 in the Something New series by Jennifer Dawson. The mayor of Revival was not always a good guy. He used to have a wild side and he had a girlfriend Darcy and they were in love. Then they graduated from high school and she left to go to New York where she wanted to learn to be a writer. She left Revival to follow her dreams and she had not looked back.
It was December, twelve years later, and Darcy's mother calls her and tells her that her house is getting torn down by the community and a park will be built on her land. She begs Daarcy to come and see what she can do to change this from happening. Darcy comes to Revival and is not surprised that Griffin Strong is mayor because her mom has told her this. Darcy is surprised that he looks as good as when she knew him at 18. Will they be able to reconnect after all these years?
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
This. This is how you do a novella. While I haven't read the other books in the series, I was completely hooked on this one from page 1. When Darcy comes back to town to fight for her mom's home, she's forced to come face-to-face with the guy she left behind all those years ago. The guy she asked to come with her. But even though they're both all grown up, the passion is still scorching between them. I can't remember the last time I got so invested in such a quick read. It was so good and it wasn't just about the two of them. Instead, there were secondary characters that really made their relationship feel real. Now I have to go back and read more in this series...

She’s My Kind of girl is book 4.5 of the Something New Series by Jennifer Dawson . Darcy Miller is from a small town , Revival , Illinois . She left here ten years ago because she was tired of small town life and wanted to get away to something bigger and better . She is currently a writer and she has her own blog .
Griffin Strong is the new mayor of Revival , Illinois . He has worked very hard to move away from his bad boy reputation from his younger days and wants to be seen as a respectable member of society .
Darcy and Griffin were an item when they were younger and when Darcy was ready to finally leave Revival , she ask Griffin to go with her . He declined due to family commitments . She left and never looked back . However , her mother needs her to return now . The city wants to buy her family house and she has declined to move forward because she doesn’t want to leave the only home that she has ever known .
Darcy returns to Revival , to help out her mother . She and Griffin cross paths again and it is like she never left , like their relationship never ended . The attraction is still there , but Darcy doesn’t want to move forward with their relationship because she has a life outside of her hometown .
Will the two be able to find a common balance in their lives in order to be together ? Or will Darcy move forward with her life as she has made it ? Will her mother’s house be seized from her ? I really liked this book . It was a great read . I would give this book four stars .
A fantastic second chance romance about the girl who left and the boy who stayed behind and became the town mayor. There was no coyness between Griffin and Darcy - the honesty about their mutual lust, frustration, and love was beautiful. And kudos for being a sex-positive second chance romance; no ridiculousness about either being celibate for want of the other.
I loved the book a beautiful love story. These 2 people deserve to be together! I wish I had a love like that! I am going to tell my daughter about this beautiful love story. I love all your books! Thank you Shirley

I just adore the Something New series more and more and that includes this novella. Basically Darcy Miller is forced to come home to Revival in order to try and help her mother keep her home from being seized, all part of the new plan the mayor has to turn the small town into something more than a cliché. The mayor who happens to be Darcy’s ex whom she left behind 10 years ago in order to pursue her dreams and get away from her upbringing. Griffin Strong, once bad boy turned mayor has to keep his reputation clean if he wants to bring changes to his hometown but Darcy is definitely the one that got away and these two definitely have unfinished business between them.
Jennifer Dawson really does set the bar high for small town romances and this is why! She’s My Kind of Girl has the small town setting with a big city vibe and I never feel like I’m being suffocated with all the characteristics that go with a small town romance.
I didn’t want to like Griffin. I was totally Team Darcy when the story began, mostly because I completely identified with her need to get away from small town life and just be her own person.
However, I started to see his side of their love story and I couldn’t help but concede that he had a point too. Griffin was still the same bad boy Darcy knew when they were teenagers except he kept it hidden with a layer of professionalism that Darcy took as a betrayal of who they were then. I loved how Griffin managed to balance out who he was deep down with the level of maturity he had to attain in order to get the town of Revival to accept him as Mayor. He was almost the entire package of charm, smarts, and foul mouthed lover. Yes, you read right. Upstanding Mayor Griffin Strong has a dirty mouth and it was just what this reader ordered.
That’s not to say I jumped ship on Team Darcy because I didn’t. Darcy totally had a point in getting away from Revival but she was still living in the past, with all her insecurities and hurt feelings. She’s My Kind of Girl was more her chance to face it, grow up in a way and have what she always wanted: Griffin. But all that was part of why I liked her so much, she chased her dreams no matter what, was successful, but she was vulnerable and insecure in one major area of her life and that was her biggest obstacle. Jennifer Dawson did a great job making this novella feel like one of her full length books without making it seem like it was incomplete due to length limits. It was hot, it was fun, and you get to revisit with some of the past characters, including my favorites, James and Gracie!
Final Verdict: Since a full length novel in the series is in the works, She’s My Kind of Girl is the perfect appetizer for the new reader or a snack to hold off familiar readers until the buffet comes to town. Yes, I was hungry when I wrote this review.
