The Assistant

Rate this book
Three years.

Three years I’ve fantasized about my boss. Three years wondering what it would be like to have him touch me, to be trapped under that deliciously hard body while he makes every one of my fantasies come true.

I’m not his type. Hell, I’m not even sure the man knows my first name. But I’d make a deal with the devil himself for one night in his bed. I never suspected that beneath his cold exterior there was a fire that burned for me. Why would I? He’s never even touched me.

Until tonight. Tonight, he’s determined to make me his and – God help me – I’m going to let him.

Author’s note: This novel contains explicit and steamy sex scenes that may not be your cup of tea. It is intended for mature readers only.

Every now and then, I try a book from a writer I don't know.

Note to self:
Do not read from this writer in the future.

(Yeah, it is that bad!)

If you like Alexa-Riley books, you might still give it a try, though. Kind of similar vibe!

I liked this one but didn't love it.

What I liked -

curvy heroine, super hot sexy scenes, chemistry between the characters, boss/employee storyline, fast-pace to the story (I never got bored)

What I didn't like (that kept it from being a 5 star book)-

some of the things Aiden did/said

Also, I wanted a little more from the epilogue

Overall, I did enjoy this book - I just wish a couple of things would've been different. I do look forward to reading more by this author.

This is my first Ramona Gray book and am so happy to discover her via a recommendation.

Aiden was sexy and alpha, but I didn't like his hot and cold attitude towards Lina. They were on a no strings attached, sex only relationship, but he clearly had feelings for her and vice versa. He didn't believe in a relationship and commitment with Lina, yet he gets jealous when she is seen with other men and repeatedly tells her that she (and her p*$$y) belongs to him. As for Lina, I liked her. Although, some of her actions were questionable (like getting involved & sleeping with her boss) the author wrote her character in a way that was easy to like.

If you like office romances then this book will not leave you dissatisfied. Plus, it's the hottest erotic romance I've read in a while. I must also mention that this book is heavier on the sex. Although the sex was well written and hot, it was a little overdone in my opinion. Also, I wished that it didn't take as long as it did for Aiden to realize his feelings for Lina. He was in denial of his feelings and was anti-relationship until 96% of the book. That just took too long for me personally. The ending was sweet, albeit a bit abrupt and ended on a HFN.

Overall, The Assistant is a hot and enjoyable read and I can't wait to read Kate's book out in June.

A fun push-pull, boss/employee relationship with a side of kink. Super light, funny, a quick read.

Aiden is an asshat. Grumpy, moody and hasn’t been able to keep any assistants longer than a few months, until he hires Ms. Jones/Lina. She’s on the thicker side, with a steel backbone and a large capacity to put up with his shit. I love this character! She has such a quick whit, is a smart sass, strong and loving.
“I’m outdoorsy in that I like to get drunk on patios.”
He’s a short-term-no-relationship kinda guy and she would rather have a committee relationship. It doesn’t take her long to screw up his no-realationship plans. She does this in a natural way, no malicious intent and it was perfect. The steam is steamy, and the dirty talkin excellent.

There is some fat-shaming from a side character and an overly dramatic ending but all in all, a really fun little story. I really like Ramona Gray or Elizabeth Kelly's writing.

So, cliche !

What is going on? The premise is sort of ridiculous. Lina is Aiden's assistant. She has worked for him for three years. Linda has a crush on Aiden . She daydreams about him while keeping up with her demanding job. Aiden is her difficult boss, who we find out has been sexually attracted to Lina for three years. Linda also has poor self esteem " about being fat with big breast" and bad in bed. How can someone sit around for three years and be attracted to you and not act on it? Linda is single and so is Aiden. So, what's the problem? Oh, lest not forget that he verbally abused her, underpaid her, overworked her, made her cry. The list could go on. So what kind of attraction was that? I really tried to read this book. I just couldn't. I skipped all the way to the back to read the epilogue. This book just didn't do it for me. Can I get my money back? Probably not, huh?

She has a pitiful sense of self esteem that the H rebuilds (ugh!) and the H is way to hot/cold for my tastes. This one wasn't for me.

I lucked out and found this hot office romance with one of the tropes I like the most: bosshole/secretary and she's plus sized, so double win.

These two have been working together for three years, and the fmc has a hate/lust relationship with her boss, who's a total jerk to her. Lina's reaction to his jerkiness is having raunchy fantasies (like, seriously x-rated) in the middle of her work day, what she doesn't know is that Aiden is secretly lusting after her too.

The sexual chemistry between these two is off the charts, and there are plenty of steamy sex scenes that revved all my engines, turbines and all.

The negative point is that the heroine's ignorance about her own sexuality and female anatomy/physiology is a testament as to why sex education should be mandatory everywhere. Seriously, how can an adult woman be so misinformed about her own body? Ignorance is bliss -they say- but blissful was she not, until she met Aiden. Now this guy was also truly obtuse and emotionally immature, his argument against a commitment and relationships was that of a teenager. I forgave him because of his hairy chest and glorious linguistic skills LOL.

This is recommended for readers looking for a hot, smexy romance with dirty sex and a if you prefer a plus sized heroine.

DELICIOUSLY CUTE, SINFULLY SEXY AND DIVINELY ENTERTAINING !!!
Title: The Assistant
Designation: Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger
Author: Ramona Gray
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: FIVE SINFULLY DELICIOUS STARS*****
Oh my! I'm totally in love with The Assistant, the latest release from Ramona Gray and she totally knocked it out of the park - again! This is one very hot and very sexy read! *swoon* I've been a diehard Ramona Gray fan for several years and look forward to each of her new releases. Gray is on my shortlist of favorite go-to authors so when I want a sexy, romantic read, she's my first choice. Gray delivers a delightfully entertaining story every single time and The Assistant is no exception. The story is enticing, imaginative, well crafted, romantic, exceptionally well edited, as are all Gray's books, and totally captivating. The narrative is beautifully written with a first person prospective from the female protagonist, Lina Jones. The dialogue is smart, snappy, seductive, well executed, at times humorous, and flowed effortlessly. But my favorite element of this book is the wonderful cast of engaging, sexy as sin characters. I fell head over heels for the two protagonists, beautiful intelligent executive assistant, Lina Jones and handsome brooding businessman, Aiden Wright. They were intriguing, engaging, realistic and completely relatable. Their attraction was electric and their sexual chemistry was smokin' hot! They were absolutely flawless and played off each other brilliantly. Gray skillfully combines every single one of these elements to craft an extraordinary contemporary romance filled to the brim with gripping emotion, sultry passion, heartbreaking angst and heartwarming love. I loved it!

Executive assistant Lina Jones has been having daydreams and nightdreams about her wealthy boss, Aiden Wright for the last three years but Lina knows the handsome businessman would never be interested in woman like her, a woman with real curves. Nope, not when the man in question could have any woman he wants. Oh well, it never hurts to dream, right? It just might! Especially when the gentleman in question is a brooding, dark hearted slave driver who may just harbor a secret desire for his beautiful, curvy assistant. Lina doesn't do one night stands and Aiden doesn't do dating, and he certainly doesn't do relationships. He has his reasons, so never the two shall connect, right? Wrong! They will....They do.... Sparks fly! Attraction sizzles! Passions flare! And hearts just may be broken..... Or not! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful, sassy, intelligent and curvaceous assistant-check! Handsome, wealthy, cold hearted, domineering and seemingly uninterested slave driver boss-check! A couple of adorable dogs named King and Daisy-check! Sultry passion, sweet romance and lots of steamy dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Deliciously cute, sinfully sexy and divinely entertaining!

When reviewing a book I always ask myself five questions. First, what did I love about this book? I pretty much loved everything about the Assistant. It's a delightfully entertaining, light hearted, fast paced romance that is sure to capture your heart and make you smile. I love how it was written in the first person and I'm always a sucker for a book that revolves around the two primary characters and Ramona Gray is a master of her trade as well as a very gifted and talented wordsmith who knows how to entertain her readers. Second, I ask myself, what didn't I like about this story? Truthfully, not a darn thing but it was just so darn good, I would have loved for it to be a little longer. I wanted to keep reading about this great couple who totally stole my heart. Third, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain quite a few exquisitely written sex scenes. *swoon again* This book made me swoon quite a few times! lol.... Fourth, I always ask, will I read this author again? Abso-freaking-lutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book, I'll be the first in line to get my copy! And finally, was I entertained? Oh lawd, yes! I was definitely entertained! Once I started reading, I simply could not stop. I laughed, I cried, I empathized and I even screamed and shook my fists in anger but by the end, I was left with a big smile and a case of the warm and fuzzies. And isn't that what entertainment truly is? Enjoying the story so much that you get completely caught up in the story and the lives of the characters....I know it is for me. So yes, in my opinion this book definitely deserves five stars. I loved it!
On a more personal note, I'd like to share something quite amusing about my experience with this book. While reading this story, an old country music song entitled Daydreams About Night Things originally performed by Ronnie Milsap in 1975 kept replaying in the back of my mind. Yeah, I'm that old, lol... Anyway, the lyrics for the chorus of the song fit this story perfectly: "I'm having daydreams about night things in the middle of the afternoon, and while my hands make a livin', my mind's home lovin' you. I'm having daydreams about night things in the middle of the afternoon and every night, you make my daydreams come true." Oh lawd, my husband and I both loved this song and spent many wonderful nights with it playing in the background! Once again, I ask you, isn't that the true definition of entertainment? Being so caught up in the characters and their lives that you relate their story to a happy time in your life. It is for me. It was truly a pleasure to read this book. Once I started, I simply could not stop. The pages flew with the hours passing seemingly as minutes until I reached the very last line. So dreamy! So yes, I wholeheartedly recommend this book and quite possibly, it may just be the reason for you to take a wonderful stroll down memory lane.

I am sure this happens for a lot of ladies and men ... when they work for a boss that is attractive. I've never been in that boat, all mine have been old farts. any who ... never had sexy teachers either, but too the point ... it is great read, fast read, my 1st book by Ramona and will definitely not be the last, I love Canada ... love all the Canadian references. I am guessing she is a dog lover, so if you are too, you will love all the doggies in this story. office setting romance or love interest. i guess the word that always sticks out for me as an American is "toque", which is a hat that Canadians wear to bed. I have to always look it up in the dictionary to recall what it is. LOVED this book! Must read!!! ( ;

I don't know what to think of this book... It had no dialogue what so ever, it was just sex. To be honest I think I'm being too generous giving this book 2 stars. I'm not mad I read it though only because I got it for free on my e-reader so yeah, that's about it.

Good but not great. No epilogue like 10 years what happens in the future but only few months :( WHY....

THE BOOK ONLY ENDED when they were officially living together and having good time. The annoying part is when THE HERO ASK ISN’T GOOD OF WHAT HAPPENS NOW BETWEEN US?
THE HEROINE SAID YES. BECAUSE THE HERO HAVE TRAUMA ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS AND HE SCARED MOST OF THE TIME.....

I LIKE THE HERO AND THEIR CHEMISTRY but when the hero shows how much scared he is and he’s not that too strong of a hero i want to read,
It got me disappointed....

- DRAMA WITH OM because the om likes the heroine so much and well kissed her too but not too much after that. And the drama between the om was not too annoying. DRAMA WITH OW but not too annoying. The ow was still a child and childish too but she got the memo when the heroine told her the truth about their relationship and she was not ever mention again. So the drama was not too annoying!

- IT HAS SEPARATION when the hero found out about his parents and also separation when both thought it was a mistake. DURING THIS TIME BOTH WERE NOT WITH OTHERS ~

- NO CHEATING

- HOT SMUT SCENES

- BOTH ARE NOT VIRGINS but been celibate for a while and no condoms.

- MANY JEALOUS SCENE FROM THE HERO

- THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE ALPHA MALE

- ALTHOUGH THE HERO was like that possessive, I didn’t like when he always have doubts about relationships and always confusing...

- THE HEROINE AND HERO PUSH AWAY many times so that also made me give it 3 stars because both are like children! So confusing and so scared and not smart enough to be strong and just go on! Arggh

My first time reading this author, so I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. It was marginal for a lot of the book whether I would finish reading it, but there was enough of interest (hint, it was the heroine) to counterbalance the things that I didn’t like about this one (hint, it’s the hero). I liked Lina, and hey, love a curvy heroine. Aidan’s attitude towards Lina’s curves was the only thing I liked about him. The rest of him could basically just get in the bin.

I wasn’t a fan of most the other characters either, they were all pretty cookie-cutter characters. I don’t mind a book that goes heavy into a trope, which this one did, and that was probably what I liked about it most.

The writing style was fine, it was the characters and the use of that really let this book down. Not sure if this is an author I would read again – maybe on heavy recommendation.

Pin the Tail on the Romance time! My TBR list is at 473 of 1537 books, so I spun the magic random number generator app to get book #629: The Assistant by Ramona Gray

Why Was This In My TBR:Got it on sale and it has been languishing in my TBR ever since

Rating: A boss-secretary romance with a heroine with curves AND a backbone! Boss-secretary romances are iffy for me when the guy wields all the power and is an alphahole to boot, but this was so adorable because Lina is oblivious to Aiden being head over heels for her. His jealous tantrums may have been caveman-ish, but I love a good jealous guy. The steam factor was totally amplified by Lina building her sexual confidence after being treated so crappily by her ex-boyfriend.

Honestly, I bought this book because of the cover. This is the first time I have read a book by Ramona Gray. I am very happy to say I loved this book and I am thankful I made this purchase. The Assistant was a very easy read for me with characters that I both liked and found relatable. The plot was engaging and had my full attention from the first page.

Mr. Wright (Aiden) and Ms. Jones (Lina) chemistry was incredible. It was wonderful to watch them coming together and trying to find a path that worked for both of them. Plus, both of them had great dogs that were the perfect addition to the story. If you enjoy boss/employee office romance then you will want to read this one.

Great Storyline

I truly enjoyed the banter in this book. Aidan is a typical male that is relationship shy because of his parents. Lina is his administrative assistant and has been for 3 years. She fantasizes about him all the time, but nothing has ever happened.
But with the death of her dog, Lina lights into Aidan who is a hard man to work for, and quits. This turns into a cat and mouse game and you will love this book.

This is a guilty pleasure book. Yes, it's over the top. Yes, the MMC is too "alpha." Yes, the main conflict could have been solved very easily. But there IS a plot and there ARE good tension-filled scenes between the MMC and FMC and there ARE great romantic moments too. I enjoyed this story and couldn't put it down. It's full of hot sex scenes and there's an intriguing dynamic between the FMC and MMC.

Truly guilty pleasure which I enjoyed very much. I guess I have a weakness for curvy heroines, which all recognizable insecurities. True the hero behaves awful, but I still could understand where he was coming from, so I could accept him as the hero. Just a fun read with lots of maximum steam love scenes, not be taken too seriously.

CW: A dog dies in this book😢.

This is the only romance novel I’ve ever read that has the heroine faking an orgasm and the hero catches her doing it and calls her out on it. I loved it!
Plus-sized heroine, lots and lots of sex on the page and the hero is big dummy until the end. I thought he needed to grovel more but other than that, a very fun read!

This is one of those where I just went with it and didn't think about it too deeply. I can't really reconcile a guy who loves the outdoors and his dog and can be sweet and affectionate with the guy who underpays and overworks his assistant (Lina says she gets paid overtime so how is barely making enough to pay her bills).
