Ken Walibora Waliaula held a Ph.D. in Comparative Cultural Studies from the Ohio State University, USA. He served as an Assistant Professor of African Languages and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. His research interests cover culture,memory,trauma,world literature, postcolonial literature, Anglophone African continental and diasporic literatures,and Swahiliphone literature. He is a prolific Kiswahili fiction writer with a literary oeuvre exceeding thirty titles and has won several awards. He won the Jomo Kenyatta Literature Prize twice with his Swahili texts, Ndoto ya Amerika (An American Dream)in 2003 and Kisasi Hapana(No to Revenge)in 2009. He had published a number of book chapters and articles in academic journals including Research in African Literatures and Journal of the Association of African Literature(JALA),and Journal of African Language Teachers Association(JALTA) and Masculinity in African Cultural and Literary Texts. He was working on a book project addressing the literature of Kenyan political prisoners.

Ken Walibora is a legend. This book deserves 10 stars.
Kiswahili wasn't my favorite subject in highschool but i was always looking forward to reading this. This will always be my favorite Swahili book :)

it target is limiting yes because it is written in swahili but it is really an eye open and the write is very creative it takes one to deeply read it and get the hidden story from what the bare eyes can read or understand but overall an amazing story

Kitabu nilichokuwa nimesoma kabla ya Kidagaa Kimemwozea, ni 'Weep not Child' ya mwendazake Ngugi wa Thiong'o. Kama tu Kidagaa, kitabu hicho kilikuwa na mandhari ya mashamba kunyakuliwa na watawala wenye dhuluma. Zaidi ya hayo, walionyakuliwa ardhi walitafuta kazi kule ardhi yao ilikokuwa. Kazi hii waliifanya wakisubiri nafasi ya kuweza kurudishiwa shamba lao. Niliguzwa mno na tumaini na uvumilivu wa kiasi hiki.
Kiswahili sanifu, mimi hukitumia tu wakati ninataka kuwaiga watu wa baharini. Ila nilipozidi kusoma kitabu hiki, nilianza kuzungumza Kiswahili vyema katika gumzo ya kawaida tu. Nakwambia, ukitaka kula tamu, kuchagua nguruwe.
Jambo jingine nililolipenda ni mashairi ya Walibora. Yalitokea popote palipokuwa na hisia nzito nzito. Nikatafakari nikaona pia methali nyingi zina mfumo wa mshororo mmoja wa shairi. Kwa mfano: "Baada ya dhiki, faraja". Waona? Ni kama kwamba methali ni kitu cha kishairi katika lugha hii. Na tena ni kama mashairi ni jumuisho la methali na wosia nyingi. We waonaje?
Cha kumaliza, nimekuwa nikiona mengi yalioandikwa na waandishi yakitimia katika nchi ya Kenya. Dhuluma haswa, kutumia polisi, kuongeza ushuru, na kunyakua rasilimali ya watu wasiojiweza. Ningetaka sana kuona hatima ya kitabu hiki kikiwa hatima yetu kama nchi. Nimetamani hatima hii, kiasi cha kutaka kuwa mhusika katika dunia ya Kidagaa, badala ya mhusika wa jamii ya Kenya. Nina shukrani kwa nchi yetu ila inachosha kung'ang'ania na kuomba omba haki zetu za kibinadamu na za kikenya. Natumai papo kwa papo, kamba litakata jiwe.

Ken was just amazing! His Swahili was superb, to say the least. The plot in this book is just puzzling!

I wasn't a fan of Swahili books because I couldn't understand well. But this is my best kiswahili book so far. Read it more than thrice!(mostly because it was a set book)

Great moral lessons and a clear representation of our society today are found in this fascinating narrative.
