Sometimes it doesn't have to be all Julius Caesar.

The things that work best together often do so for a reason. When everything else is falling apart that one constant is the North Star. Stiles and Peter face off against the Monster of the Week. Lines are redrawn, the pack is tested, and changes they are a coming.

Snarky, sentimental, and far sweeter than DW appropriate. But, the dorky grin and desire to roll around in leaf litter is real.

Chris Argent doesn’t even blink before he unloads a few rounds into the beta closest to him, and Peter feels a twinge of admiration, although it’s soured with jealousy. When Chris is a cold blooded killing machine he’s the hero, but when Peter does it, he’s a sociopath?

Overall, Comedy snatched from the jaws of tragedy.

Peter is my spirit animal.

I’m such a glutton for Steter. I just hear the word and have a Pavlovian response/zombie arms. I’m not sure if it’s the age difference or that I think Peter and Stiles are better matched intellectually than he and any of the others. I’ll sniff around the other ships but I always come back to this one.

DW emphasized those similarities in Infinite Space not only through their tenuous positions within the pack, but by making them both the left hand, a position typically requiring someone who’s ruthless and an asset. Devoted. Feared. Clever. Admittedly, it was difficult for me to envision Stiles being fearsome, then again he does have Peter so that should put the fear of god into anyone thinking of fucking with him.

It took me a minute to get into this one. It’s a slow build and more somber than I was expecting for whatever reason, but it picked up once they broke Peter out of Eichen. I also didn’t think the full shifting thing would work for me, but the way they kept meeting in their dreams allowed me to leisurely wade into the full shift pool. The water turned out to be lovely.

Peter being protective and following Stiles into his dreams to stand guard really worked for me. I also liked the frolicking and them just enjoying lying in the sun lazing.

Infinite Space isn’t overly explicit, but the one sex scene was worth the wait.

More than anything else I thought it was beautifully written. Like this quote:

A breeze rustles the leaves of the trees, a whispered symphony that fills the air all around them.

It’s like DW wrote Steter lyrics.

Recommend for those who enjoy a slow burn, possessive and protective mates and, obviously, Steter fans.

A quieter fic than what we've been taught to expect from this author and there was definitely some gentle teasing about our expectations towards the end.

Despite the title of previous fics arguing it, here Stiles feels 'his life is a horror movie' but things are looking up in the unlikely shape of Peter. A thoughtful pragmatic Peter who gives interesting insight. There's room for a lot of delightful Scott hating, and the most wonderful scene.

The Sheriff is supportive and fun, there's a drink-spittingly funny scene with Malia along the way and Derek appears stronger, on the road to healing. I'm not familiar with the 'new pack' which didn't matter, as a reader I could share Peter's scorn of them and appreciate how much Stiles has grown.

There's plenty of feels, some low moments and heart-warming ones, gentleness and heat.
I liked it a lot.

My thanks to Vivian for hosting the 'Henry Survivor Group Meetings' which makes reading these all the more fun. And let me know I'm not the only bloodthirsty one ;) 4.5*

This was awesome, 4.5 stars, rounded up.

I love stories like this, fix it stories, fics that deal with the events from the show that either the writers forget about, or just get wrong. DW just seems to get these characters. Whether it's Sterek or Steter, she stays about as true to the characters themselves as any author I've found. She doesn't gloss over the faults, and she doesn't go out of her way to demonize certain characters who screw up, and screw up royally, which I like.

This fic is a post season 5 fic, so it picks up after Stiles and Scott had their falling out, and, unlike the show, it didn't wipe the slate clean, and forget it ever happened. No, this story actually dealt with things, DW realizing, like all us viewers, that something like that doesn't just go away.

I really wish the show would hire some fic writers, and just fire their entire writing crew, because fandom writers do SUCH a better job dealing with things.

I always find the stories where Scott and Stiles drift apart to be pretty melancholy, but this was really well done, a meditation on the role of the "left hand" or how holding power and protecting people comes at a price of committing less savory deeds. It's a great read on the show's themes, especially the previous season, which showed how Scott was prone to being blinded by his need to do good, and the horrible rift that created with Stiles, who was forced into an action that Scott couldn't understand or accept. Bringing Peter into this context works really well and what followed was a tight, well-thought out plotline, with Stiles fully embracing his position as left hand, as the pack-member who takes on the morally difficult choices for the sake of the rest, no matter how ungrateful they may be.

So good, and Lisa managing to bring in elements from Season 5 made it even better. I absolutely loved it.
“Pack is earned,” Peter says, eyes flashing as anger courses through him. “And you’ve done nothing to earn Stiles. He should be your most trusted packmate, and you barely even looked at him when you walked in here. He fought alongside you, he was injured for you, and you treat him like he’s nothing.”

Scott looks stunned, his face a mask of shock.

The truth fucking hurts, and Peter is glad of it.

“You don’t deserve a friend like Stiles,” Peter tells him. “You don’t deserve to have him as your left hand. Everything he does, he does for the safety of the pack, and you’re so busy playing knight in shining fucking armor, that you don’t even see what sacrifices he makes for you. He’s done more to keep this territory safe than you ever have. Done more, and risked more, and you can’t even look him in the eye.”

There is a melancholic feel to this steter fic. Stiles loses faith in Scott and walks with wolf Peter in his dreams.

A big thanks to the Survivor Group for the BR. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my blood lust.

2/8/2017 I will re-read my favorite DW Steter fics until someone takes my iPad from my cold dead hands.

5/28/2018 I needed some DW Steter.

Just stop it with this fabulocity:

Dream Stiles may be a construct of Peter’s subconscious, who can only exist in this strange, liminal dreamscape. Peter has no reason to imagine that this is a space they share, that Stiles is any more real than the woods, or the town, or the field of stars wheeling above them.

The focus of this story is the characters, as opposed to any event and I love it. And as much as this is Stiles and Peter, it's also Peter and Derek, and Stiles and Scott, and pack politics, and how to make sure the pack survives.

Once again, we see why, and how, Peter knows Stiles better than anyone. We see why, and how, Stiles recognizes what Peter is for him.

This story is a bit different in tone compared to many of DW's other works set in this universe. Even with the life and death situations, there is a lot of sweetness, caring, and mating going on here. I mean, it kinda freakin made me swoon more than once.

(I've long since given up resisting my love of this Peter but, still, damn you, Lisa!)

I have to highlight again the Peter and Derek dynamic in this. It's definitely the second storyline.
This sums up the difference between Peter and Derek, and why they ultimately can work together, approaching from different angles, on everything. I love how they're trying to get back to that working together in this.

Beacon Hills is nothing but bad memories for Derek. For Peter too, perhaps, but Derek has always been the sort of person who internalizes everything, and wallows in it. Peter doesn’t internalize. He pushes back.

This piece is now complete. Do ya'self a favor and go read the awesomeness.

Man I'm on a great reading streak (probably because I'm sticking with tried and true authors)

This latest Steter from DiscontentedWinter does not disappoint in any way shape or form. And it's pretty canon as far as I can tell. I just felt so close to Stiles and his fractured pack. As someone who loves this fandom and not necessarily the show I ached for the things I knew and felt comfortable with. And man Peter oh Peter. It always amazes me how DW can portray Peter in so many different lights through her fics I just eat it up like a starved wolf.

So yeah it's good, go read it Steter fans

While I will forever be a Sterek girl, I can get on board with Lisa's Steter. Especially when Peter proves his worth. The sadness here, though is the Scott and Stiles split. Is this happening in the show now?

How sad.

But clearly the fun in fanfic is playing around with the relationships and the canon. And Lisa just does it so well. So so well.

Well this was a first for me. I didn't think I would cross into the Steter genre. But if anyone could persuade me, it was DiscontentedWinter. She has a way with words, making Peter interesting and alluring despite his Machiavellian manoeuvres. Even in Sterek fictions, Peter had a way to steal the spotlight.

I was lucky to start my Steter (and trust me, I'll read more, especially by DiscontentedWinter) with this fiction,

All in all, a good pick for my first Steter. I'll slowly make my way towards the less savory ones,

I love when Lisa pares Stiles with Peter. Regardless of the situation or setting, her take on them as a couple is the best.

Okay, this is going to be my lunch time reading for the next however long it takes....
yeah, I know, this probably isn't a good idea... but, well, I've never been a fan of those :)

Okay, chapter comments as I read along are going under spoiler tags just in case

Loved this one

but

I am starting to feel very sorry for Chris Argent.... his sister was a psycho, his wife he had to help kill herself, his father was, well, yes, more psycho, and his daughter got herself killed.... and now he gets regularly beaten up or attacked.... it would be nice if someone could give him a little bit of happiness... just sayin'

This was So.Freaken.Nice! The Steter aspect probably happens a bit too smoothly and with very little fan-fare, but that was good for a change. Also, I think Stiles and Peter both realized what was going on with their dreams (at least subconsciously) and so that eased the way a lot.

Scott is an idiot as usual, although it was handled very well and things worked out in a realistic manner. This certainly could have been longer with more angst thrown is, but that's not necessary. If you want something light without being fluff this is the perfect interlude. Very realistic to all the characters personalities and a solid HFN ending with regards to the pack and HEA with regards to Steter.
