Crochet One- Skein Wonders for Babies by Judith Durant and Edie Eckman is a delightful book filled with enchanting pictures and designs that are unique and would make anyone happy to be the one to receive such wonderful gifts. Each item has close up, detailed pictures and very complete instructions on how to make the item. The book starts out with the cutest variety of hats and caps, my favorite is the pixie hat which is just too cute! Next they have the socks and booties. They even have mommy and me leg warmers, how cute is that? The next section has tops and dresses but also contains sweaters and vests. These are so unique and nothing like what my grandmother made. These so so stylish and clever. My favorite of this section is a delightful cape. Chapter four is for little bottoms. This includes such fancy diaper covers, skirts, and pants. Next is bibs, wash cloths, and burp rags. Then comes the safe and unique toys that are sure to keep the little one' s attention. I love the Pegasus. Blankets and sleep sacks come next and the Zucchini sleep sack and cap is sooo adorable! Last is the bags and accessories which has a rich variety of items. This is a must see book for anyone that has a baby, knows a baby, or does craft fairs. Such great ideas here. Lovely book. Get it for the person you know that is into crochet. There is 101 projects here. Such detailed instructions, pictures, ideas, creativity, wow, loved it! I received this book from NetGalley for a honest review and it in no way effected my review or rating.
This is another excellent edition to the series of One-Skein Wonders books, this time full of cute projects for babies and toddlers - perfect for using up those leftover skeins and bits of yarn. There's so many delightful projects, many are excellent for beginners too.
*I received an ARC from Netgalley, the review is my own honest opinion.*
This book was filled with tons of super cute patterns for little ones! Quite a few of them are ones that I want to make myself, but they look a bit above my own skill level.. Hopefully one day I will be good enough to make them though!
The eighth book in the One-Skein Wonders series does not disappoint, and even more delightful is that it's for crocheters! While several earlier titles include a token project or two, this volume celebrates all designs crochet.
The projects are arranged by standard categories: hats, socks, tops, blankets, and numerous types of accessories. In addition to a standard index is one by yarn weight. These are helpful for those situations when you have yarn but aren't quite sure what you want to make. Many different tips are included to ensure successful projects. Two I like are nice reminders for hats: a larger hat can be grown into, a smaller one is pointless and to keep bonnet tie lengths short. Symbol diagrams are included where feasible. Attention to layout means the symbol key and abbreviation chart are facing each other in the print copy.
If you crochet and wish to expand your repertoire, I recommend this versatile addition to your bookshelf.
I received an eARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for a review. The FTC wants you to know.
I'm going through all the One-Skein books and this one is, naturally, like the rest: Some designs are good, some are meh. The series has definitely gotten better, though. It's great that this one is specifically for crochet—for all those neglected hookers out there. I have no little ones in my life right now for whom to crochet for, but I found few patterns that I like. The exceptions were the pieces that included crocodile stitch. That's a new one for me. Otherwise, this is just an okay book.
So many cute things in here for babies. And everything requires only one skein if yarn. I love these one skein wonder books. They are great for stash busting those single skeins that couldn’t be resisted but aren’t big enough for other projects. I made an adorable rainbow baby cape so far!
Crochet One-Skein Wonders® for Babies: 101 Projects for Infants & Toddlers is a nonfiction book that is currently scheduled for release on May 3 2016. This book collects one hundred and one patterns that use one skein of yarn or less. Projects include Hats and caps, bootees and socks, mitts, dresses, tops and bottoms as well as blankets, bibs, soft toys, bottle cozies, diaper bags, and more. Most of the patterns are accessible to crocheters of all skill levels, although there are some stitches and patterns that will keep more experienced crafters thinking as they work as well. A nice collection for crocheters that are looking for small projects and cute gifts to make.
Crochet One-Skein Wonders® for Babies is a nicely organized and varied collection of crochet patterns for young recipients. Single skein projects are great for keeping in the car, working on while traveling, or for stash busting. I will admit to using these projects for all three. The patterns are interesting enough for all crocheters, with plenty that can be done by all skill levels. These are all original patterns were contributed by 54 designers from around the world. Each project comes with complete instructions, charts, schematics, and beautiful photographs so that no matter how you like to work (I like following a pattern while the charts only confuse my many times) you can complete a perfect project. Particular favorite patterns of mine from the book are the April Showers Cape, Dad and Me Necktie, and the Kitty Kat Lovey.
I would recommend Crochet One-Skein Wonders® for Babies for crocheters that love crafting for the little ones, and will get much use from these patterns.
This book will be released in May 2016! I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
There are so very many adorable patterns in this book! While I have yet to make any, I have flagged several and just ordered yarn featured for making a hat as well as a cowl. Some patterns are given in newborn sizes only, but many include options for multiple sizes to fit up to four year olds. The book is divided into several categories including hats, booties, tops, bottoms, bibs, toys, blankets, and accessories including bags. I love that the patterns are so diverse and yet all crochet! Many are quite simple, and the patterns are easy to read. Others will take perhaps more skill than I already possess. The patterns assume some basic knowledge of crochet, though there is an overview of how to make all kinds of stitches in the back. Patterns that feature a key stitch that is not single or double crochet have a small explanatory note to clarify the abbreviation.
This book would be a nice addition to have in an art classroom that offers fiber art materials to students, especially since most patterns take much less than one skein of yarn. Students could make presents for family members or craft their own toys or blankets. The projects aren’t labeled with skill levels, so students may need some guidance in selecting an appropriate project if they are beginning crochet.
Great ideas for Christmas presents. Maybe I will be able to get ahead for next year!
There is nothing worse than starting a project and realising that you need 2 or 3 (or 4) skeins for that adorable baby blanket, or the cardigan that would be perfect for your nephew. One-Skein Wonders® solves that problem! One skein (granted some of the skeins are rather large) and that is all you need. From toys and blankets, to caps and sweaters. You are sure to love the adorable project bursting with color and creativity on every page!
If you are anything like me, you will be scrambling for the next few weeks crocheting like mad in order to get all of your projects done before Christmas Eve! Let me tell you, this book has 101 fun projects requiring only one skein. Mommy and Me Legwarmers and Tiny Tango Vest are a couple of my favorites. This will be the perfect pattern book to start your presents early for next year. This wonderful collection of patterns is put together very well! I wish had more time, because I would love to make a lot of the items in this book. The projects are very cute and the pictures depict them very well. The symbol key, abbreviations and glossary were very helpful and easy to understand. The patterns themselves have been designed with a lot of thought and are easy to understand.
I received a free digital copy of Crochet One-Skein Wonders® for Babies from Storey Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This book is pretty complete. It includes a wide variety of patterns like beanies, diaper covers, stuffed toys, blankets, backpacks, and even a hot/cold pack for mom (or Dad’s) headaches.
It is easy to follow. Whether you prefer written instructions or picture charts, you’ll be able to use this book as it offers both forms of instruction.
It does stretch the “One skein wonder” description just a little as some of those skeins are “pounders” For some projects, like the diaper bag, you’ll need skills beyond crochet like sewing (to line the bag - zipper installation as well).
A good pattern book for anyone wanting to make something for the little ones in their lives. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that in the age of Pinterest, it does feel like this book is missing a lot of the wow factor that it needs to compete. For those of us who prefer to have a printed book with clear images and don’t want to print them all up or be tied to electronics while being crafty it is a nice alternative.
Most of the patterns are fine for those who would consider themselves a “beginner”. I only know the basic stitches and was able to make a hat the day I got the book.
* Disclaimer: I received this book at no cost in order to review it. I offered no guarantee of a positive review, though I only request books I think I'll like because why read a book you think you’ll hate?
I picked this up originally thinking I had a few pregnant friends and co-workers who would probably appreciate something cute and homemade, and one skein of yarn is about the length of my attention span.
I, er, may possibly have just made myself an elephant so far. And one for my dog.
The patterns are cute and there's actually a lot of variety. I tend towards stuffed toys when crocheting, so more patterns in that vein are always appreciated. There's a lot more here than just that, though, and things are well-organized by type and have nice pictures to represent what you're doing also.
The patterns are easy-to-read and include details for the quirkier stitches (yes, I'm still basic enough at this to consider anything beyond single/double stitches "quirky", and I'm okay with that), and it's easy to tell what is likely to be beyond me versus just pushing me a little bit, though some of that might be a skill requiring practice.
Eventually I will probably get around to at least making a stuffed animal for someone else, but even without that I'm having quite a bit of fun with this book.

This book is chock full of great patterns for every experience level. The patterns are written clearly and should be easy for even a novice to follow, but also interesting and unique enough for those who are more advanced. (I would consider myself to be advanced, having written my own patterns and crocheting for 8 years now, just to give an idea of where I'm coming from. :) ).
Upon opening the book, I instantly fell in love with the Crocodile Stitch Pixie Hat and had to make it. It's easy, works up quickly, and is sure to get some attention from all the ladies at the baby shower I will be attending next month. I also intend to make the "Pretty in Pink" top to go with it.
One of the things I think that I liked best about this is the amount of boy or gender-neutral things in it. I have a son myself and several friends with boys and it was often difficult to find cute designs for them. It's really nice to have a book that has such variety!
It's also great that everything only uses one skein, since then you don't have to worry about matching colorways!

This is a fantastic collection of crochet patterns from multiple designers! There are chapters for hats and caps, socks and bootees, tops and dresses, bottoms, bibs and washcloths, toys, blankets and sacks, and bags and accessories. On the patterns that are clothing items, there are size measurements given, such as 0-3 months, 6-12 months, and 1-4 years. For each project, there is a picture of the finished product and some of the more technical pieces also have diagrams to help show what to do. There are helpful tips at the beginning of some patters and other "pattern essentials" to help you be successful with whatever project you choose. The back of the book has an appendix that features a glossary of how to do certain stitches, such as clusters, the adjustable ring, half double crochet, reverse double crochet, and many other crochet stitches, as well as other techniques such as felting, making pompoms, and more. Also at the back there is a page with a guide to yarn weights with recommended hook sizes. This book would make a great addition to any crocheter's library!
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book contains a wealth of patterns, neatly organised into categories such as Hats &Caps, Socks & Booties, toys, clothes, useful items and blankets. All patterns can be worked from one skein of wool, though attention should be given to the size. The patterns are well written, easy to understand and follow and many also incorporate a diagram, however the individual patterns give no indication to the difficulty level of each item made. The patterns provide a wide range of presents or useful things for new mums, aunts, grandmothers or friends to crochet. Most patterns give varying size guides, and for those where no other sizes are explained, this could be worked out from the pattern. The basic stitches and a very useful key to read diagrams are included in the back of the book for beginners or those who need a little reminder of how stitches are worked. Beautiful photos, clear descriptions and instructions make this a valuable resource for anyone who wants to create items for babies and toddlers.
I own other One-Skein Wonder books. As most of my stash is one or two skeins of a certain yarn, it's the perfect series for me. This edition, featuring baby patterns, is no exception. There is something for everyone in this book. Clothing, hats, blankets, stuffed toys and accessories. All skill levels are also represented. I'm working on a project from this book now for an upcoming shower. The pattern is easy to understand. There is a glossary in back with how to's and abbreviations.
One one critique is that some of the yarn choices are unrealistic for baby projects. I'm probably not going to use a $22 skein of merino wool on a project that will likely be vomited on. I mostly use acrylic or cotton so the project and be thrown in the washer if it gets dirty. As the yarn is suggested, it's an easy fix.
I love to crochet, and have many of Edie Eckman's books, and they are all amazing. Crochet One-Skein Wonders for Babies does not disappoint. Inside are page after page of adorable, easy to understand patterns for your baby, or to make as one-of-a-kind gifts for babies of other friends and families.
The patterns cover a nice variety of styles, and are divided into: Hats & Caps Socks & Booties Tops & Dresses Bottoms Bibs & Washcloths Toys Blankets & Sacks Bags & Accessories
This is the perfect book to have on hand to whip up a gorgeous gift in a short amount of time, probably using yarn that is already on hand. The title says 'One-Skein,' but some of the patterns can be made with less than one, so it also helps with stash-busting.
Also, what a great gift for the Mother-to-be who is learning how to crochet, or is already a crocheter.
I always love looking at crochet and knitting books for baby clothes. The clothes are cute and quick to whip up, and the babies are absolutely adorable!
This book is no exception, and I quickly found a number of projects I wanted to cast on right away. The projects are well laid out, with good descriptions and clear photos. Where relevant, the patterns are given with both written instructions and a chart, making it easy for beginners like me who know the basic stitches but are still finding their way around the structure of charts
The book contains a nice selections of hats, tops, trousers, skirts, blankets and of course toys. While they weren't all hits with me, there was a large enough ratio of things I wanted to make for the book definitely to be worth it.
There are some lovely and different items to crochet for babies in this book, from hats, booties - even legwarmers which are super cute - to tops, bottoms and some lovely blankets. The patterns are presented in both written and in most cases graph format. They are easy to follow and would be suitable for a beginner. most of them can be knitted from a 100g skein of wool with a couple requiring a little bit more. The patterns are suitable for both boys and girls - with some really lovely ideas that would make lovely gifts for the special baby. The book finishes off with some cuddly crochet toys which are always very welcome for babies. A lovely and very practical book. This book was provided to me in return for a honest and unbiased review.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
A great collection of patterns for crocheters of any level. Don’t worry about being able to read the patterns because they are simple and straightforward with great images to accompany them. I love collections like this because there are so many patterns to choose from and they have such a wide variety, I dare you to find less than 5 things you want to crochet! Not to mention they are adorable as all get out. The best part? You require only 1 skein or less of yarn to make each project. It’s perfect for those who need a quick project or want to make something for all those little babies in (or about to be in) their lives.
While I didn't make anything in the book, there were beautiful, color photos, lots of detail, and seemed very well put together. Sections organized by project, and lots of things made it easy to peruse, and very clear. Multiple project types, and varying degrees of difficulty. The variety of projects was wide and very comprehensive considering the size of the of the yarn (one-skein). Would recommend to anyone. Very easy to find several projects of interest in this book! I received an review copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Adorable projects of hats, caps, socks, booties, tops, dresses, bottoms, bibs, washcloths, toys, blankets, sacks, bags and accessories for babies.
It has both written and pictorial representation of the projects. My favorites were crocodile stitch pixie hat, braided headband, Little Hearts Bootees, Dad & Me Necktie Shirts, Boy's Cardigan, Zip, Snap and Botton It and Diaper Stacker
This book has some of the cutest patterns I have come across recently. The Crocodile Stitch Pixie Hat is adorable. I want to start with the first project and just work my way through the book! The illustrations and charts are great and there is a glossary of stitches and abbreviations. This book can keep you busy for a long time.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the arc of Crochet One-Skein Wonders for Babies! This book is a bit beyond beginning crocheters, but would be wonderful for intermediate and beyond. The illustrations, charts and descriptions offer great detail and help with each project. The hats, and clothing are beautifully done. I especially like the crocheted animals! I plan on purchasing this book and, of course, working on the animals first!
This book contains lots of cute items to crochet for babies including hats and booties, tops and dresses, diaper covers and pants, bibs and washcloths, toys and more. The mommy and me leg warmers are cut and the toys are adorable. You can even crochet a baby blanket using just one skein of yarn if it is one of those giant "pound of love" skeins. I received this book free to review from Netgalley and I think the patterns are very cute!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An invaluable book for crocheters, beginner or expert. Quick little projects that make up fast for wonderful gifts or your own child. Clear instructions and beautiful photographs are presented well in this gem of a book. Recommended.
The patterns here would make some adorable clothing and toys for little kids. I didn't try any of the patterns in this particular book but the series has been a reliable and accurate one for me so far.
