Brawler

All men suck! They lie, cheat, and break women's hearts. I'd all but given up on relationships when I met Ethan Harlow, a drop-dead gorgeous boxer at Kidd's Gym.

He was sexy, muscular, tattooed, and talented.

So, I decided to give boxing - and men - one last try.

My name is Jaz. I'm a boxer. This story is about my rise to fame, all the while doing the two things I enjoyed more than anything on earth.

Fucking and fighting.

Along the way, however, I found out a little about love.

Brawler is a STAND-ALONE, HEA, no cheating, no cliff hanger.

~5 KNOCK-OUT STARS~
"My name's Beth, but no on ever calls me by my name, either. They call me Jaz. It's short for Jasmine. This is my story. It's about fighting, fucking, and falling in love. In that order."
description

Brawler is a knockout! A story of "fighting, fucking, and falling in love.", it punches you straight in the gut, steals your breath, and just when you think you are down for the count, you are pressed deeper before being pulled back to life.

description
"Hoping to find love, I took advantage of most of them. Love, however, remained elusive."
Brawler is the story of Jaz. A fighter who has lived the definition of a "hard knock life". Growing up in an abusive home, she has tried to find love wherever she could.
description "...life was a blur of boys, beer, blowjobs, and being backhanded by my father."
As we all know the town "slut" isn't expected to go far. However, Jaz is special. Jaz isn't a quitter! Under the mentorship of a wise trainer, she does indeed find a future and a reason to keep fighting. Jaz has skills in the boxing ring. She excels at training and fighting. However, when life once again deals her a low blow, she makes her way to Texas. In search of the beach and peace, she ends up in Austin. It doesn't take long for Jaz to use her fighting skills to protect herself. Just after rolling into town, she catches the eye of Ripp.
"You're hands are quick as a motherfucker, girl. Where the fuck'd you learn to fight like that?"
Ripp is a trainer at a local gym and is happy to offer Jaz the chance of a lifetime. Ripp will train her and help her make her way to the pros! Not only is Jaz thrilled at the chance to train with Ripp, but she can't help but notice Ripp's friend Ethan.
"You've got nice eyes. And a terrific ass."
description
"It had been almost ten years since I stepped foot in a ring, and equally as long since I'd fought anyone. At that moment, however, I felt like I could have defeated anyone, regardless of their size, ability, experience or training. And only time would tell if I was right or wrong."
The time training with Ripp reinvigorates Jaz. The muscles that had been laying dormant in her spark back to life and it doesn't take her long to get back into full fighting form. With her physical stature exceeding expectations, it doesn't take her long to put some effort into getting the attention of Ethan. Ethan is a perfect match for Jaz. He is strong, athletic, and yet, his gentle and calming spirit is a perfect counterpart for Jaz's brazen aura. When Ethan and Jaz come together, the climate is scorching! Jaz likes her physical connections to match in the ring and the bedroom. She wants it dirty, rough, and relentless.
"I bit into my bottom lip and mentally prepared for the sexual beating I'd been hoping for. Ethan didn't disappoint. Blazing a brand new path down a previously traveled road, he thrust his way deep into my memory bank."
description
JAZ and Ethan make a perfect match. The physical connection is quick and as the two begin to spend time together, their emotional connection forged everlasting love. As Jaz's career continues to progress the understanding of that love and comfort she shares with Ethan cement her heart, brain, and soul. The moment she discovers that Ethan is more than just "sexual fulfillment" is the moment she realizes with him, she is truly home.
"...searchin' for the perfect love is like searchin' for the perfect burger. You just need to realize that there's always somethin' out there-somewhere-that'll rival what you got. Hell, maybe it'll beat it. But if it was good enough to gather your attention in the first place, it ought to be good enough for the long haul. You just got to be smart enough to realize that different isn't always better."-Kelsey
description Apart from the final chapter Brawler is told in predominantly Jaz's POV. It is a true blend of romance, action, passion, and stocked full of life lessons. In true Hildreth style, friendship and loyalty are the driving force of the plot. The secondary characters continue to enhance the plot and offer a backdrop to Jaz's journey. The pacing is perfect with the action of the boxing ring, the sexual chemistry between the main characters, and the underlying love between friends. The highs in Brawler had me laughing until my sides heart. The lows in the story had my heart breaking. And yet, isn't that a true reflection of life? How refreshing to experience it through the eyes of a strong and sassy heroine like Jaz. She is simply unforgettable. Ethan made my heart melt with his easy going personality and together, I simply could not take my eyes away.
"I loved Ethan with all my heart, and I new nothing could change the way I felt."
description

Overall, Brawler is a must read. It has a little bit of everything for everyone and the emotions evoked will allow you to pause and reflect on all of the important things. It will remind you to keep fighting and never give up. Mr. Hildreth has once again made me laugh, cry, and swoon (sometimes all at the same time). I highly recommend this read to all of my reading friends. You will certainly not want to miss meeting JAZ!!!! She is "one mouthy little bitch" that I will never forget! Well done SD! As always, reading your work is a true delight!

I wanted to love this desperately!!

description

I just couldn't get into the MMC.

Meet Jaz

description

From the moment the first word left her mouth, I knew she'd be awesome.

"This is my story. It's about fighting, fucking, and falling in love. In that order."

Simple, right? But the author had me itching to know this chick's story.

So book begins...

Some asshole tries to take her bag. She curses him out and puts an ass whooping on him. She's had boxing training & is a natural talent, but she's never had the opportunity to give it a go professionally. Until now.

The MMC, Ethan, & his boxing trainer friend witness the beat down. Hello, opportunity!!

Five minutes later, she's sticking her hands in her pockets because she feels self-conscious about her nails around Ethan.

I love it... She's a brute of a girl'y girl.

"The thought of fighting and fucking at the same time made my pussy tingle. I tried to refrain from being my natural self and making a sexual comment.."

Meanwhile, she is crushing hard on the MMC & asking advice on how to get him to like her.

She thinks like a true Alpha female...

" Desperately wanting him to finish his chicken so I could suck his cock, I peered across the table. He was one bite away from a blowjob."

She comes up with a boxing sex scene that will knock your thongs socks off!

Bottom line...

I love the kick ass, foul mouth fighter who can be just as dirty as she is girly. Let's just say she hits close to home ;) lol. And, maybe that's what makes the MMC just so fucking terrible IMHO.

You'd think that a strong alpha female needs an equally alpha male at her side, right? Right!?!

description

Meet Ethan

• Shaves his legs.

• Carries recent dead girlfriend guilt.

• Complains about meany parents.

• Fighter with as many loses as wins.

• Ditzy and oblivious.

• Passive.

• Never takes the lead in developing the relationship or sex. She makes every first move & keeps the ball rolling.

• First time they talk, he tells her that she intimates him.

• Friend zones the hot FMC & is clueless that she is trying to fuck him until she literally takes his dick out.

• She's thinking about his dick... He's making small talk about her beat up Corolla.

• It takes her telling him that a wine stain sets in 30 minutes to finally get this fucker out of his pants.

This...

Her: "You like it?" (Her pussy)
Him: "Yeah."
Her: "Good. Because now it's ruined."
Him : He blinked and stared. "What do you mean?"

description

G'z'us! I swear if you take this dude out of the storyline and just look at his character profile and actions, you would swear he is either a flamboyant gay man or a flighty girl.

Gigantic cock, or not. His character is not appealing to me on any level and makes such a stark delta male contrast to the alpha FMC that it makes the storyline awkwardly off.

description

The Writing

The writing makes me even more irritated with the MMC because I really like the author's writing style. I'm digging that this isn't your standard formula of weak, processed FMC. I'm digging that the author is doing sex scenes that are anything but formula. I dig the boxing.

*sighs*

*hangs head*

I just fucking can't stand the MMC, and it throws the entire storyline off for me.

description

Bottom Line

I have a clear like/dislike roll call when it comes to books. And, I always either read it or DNF & never look back. ALWAYS.

Here, however, I put this book down several times yesterday and today with the hope that I would come back and suddenly see the MMC as the sexy guy the FMC sees.

description

Nope. Nada. Nothing!

So, I didn't DNF this lightly, and the fact that I even tried to force myself to swallow the MMC speaks volumes to the how well I liked the other elements of the story and the author's style.

I don't want to discourage anyone from giving this book a try. Many readers will probably find then MMC sweet to her salty... The sweet gummy center to her sour hard shell. It just did not hit my taste buds right nor mix well with what else was being served.

It would also be highly unfair of me to give this book a star rating because it wouldn't accurately represent how I felt about the book.

*beautiful cover BTW.

Brawler surprised me. I ended up enjoying it way more than I first thought I would. The characters are what really makes this story special. They are interesting and unforgettable. Jaz the heroine is not the typical heroine I prefer to read about. I am normally all about sweet and quite heroines but Jaz is strong, feisty and funny. The more I read of Brawler the more I loved her. Ethan was a fantastic hero too. He is quite, strong, supportive and sweet in his own way. There is also some amazing supportive character who you can't help but love.

This book focuses more on Jaz's and Ethan's struggles and boxing than their romance so if you just wanting to read about romance and nothing else this might not be for you. I could see this book making a great movie. Overall, I thought this is an awesome read and I look forward to trying more books by Scott Hildreth.

Like strong heroines who are humble? Read. This. Book.

Jaz Briscoe is a bad ass. Plain and simple. She has the ability to beat anyone’s ass. But you’d never know it.

Raised at the hand of her abusive father after her mother died during her birth, her means of escape (from 11 until she was 16) was to box (yes, the fighting type).

Her trainer died when she was sixteen, and it appears from what she says (although we don’t see this part of her life) that she then turned to sex.

Now 24, the book begins when she gets in a fight with someone trying to steal her backpack at Starbucks.

In the midst of said fight, someone pulls into the parking lot and witnesses the ass whipping she’s administering, and as fate would have it, he’s a boxing trainer. And, he has a friend who’s smoking fucking hot.

Jaz hasn’t boxed in 8 years, but she was undefeated during her tenure as an amateur boxer. She agrees to train under the trainer, Mike Ripton (of the UN series).

Her interest, however, is the drop dead gorgeous boxer who is Ripps’ friend, Ethan.

Ethan is different. He really doesn’t have any issues, he’s quiet, and he’s a genuine man through and through. He’s what all women dream of, and through this book he never wavers. He never fucks up. He remains her only constant.

Jaz and Ethan build a relationship – all the while with Jaz mentally preparing for him to dump her – (because all men eventually do in her opinion), only to find out he’s actually perfect.

Jaz’s fights are page flipping greatness. Ethan’s fights are awesome (especially one). Ripp’s antics are second to none.

And then?

Angst.

Fuck me….

I laughed.

I came pretty fucking close to crying.

I laughed again.

I had oh shit moments, and aha moments.

I got angry.

I got even more angry.

I stood up and cheered.

And, I fell in love. More than once.

And then I almost cried AGAIN.

All from this book.

Why?

Well, I can’t say. You’ll just have to read it.

HEA. No cheating. No sex outside the relationship. And No cliffhanger.
Fuck.

This was one great fucking read.

What a fantastic and beautiful gem this story was. I was instantly hooked from the first couple of pages. This was not my first book by Hildreth and it definitely won't be my last. What I've learned from reading his books is that he excels in writing strong characters who shines throughout the story which always comes out as interesting and different. The writing was flawless and kept me entertained from start to finish.

Brawler was just that and much more to me. It was about dedication, love and most of all family. Jaz was a phenomenal heroine. I loved everything about her. From her feisty and honest personality to her humbled and dedicated work approach. Her outlook on life was real and she was not conceited in any way. She knew that with hard work came well earned results. Her relationship with Ethan was perfectly written at the right pace. I felt myself falling in love with Ethan just as Jaz did. Their connection was strong and their attraction deliciously hot. I'm so pleased with their ending!

Brawler really shined when it came to the characters. I loved and enjoyed them all for various reasons. But what characterized them all was that they had heart and soul. I was intrigued and wanted to know them and their stories. Jaz started out being alone but by a chance accident gained a whole family and I feel I did too.

BRAWLER!!
BRAWLER!!!
BRAWLER!!!!
WOOHOOO!!!!
TEAM BOOKS WON!!!!
LMAO—Yes I am riding a VICTORY high!!!! I am not a huge sports fan, I usually have a book in my lap when we watch as a family and I have never understood how my sweet laid back husband can go crazy and lose it over a game, until now. Because Scott Hildreth’s latest novel Brawler put me in crazy lose it mode many, many, times. I truly do not want a coffee house discussion over this book I want a VICTORY celebration!!!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, the nail biting excitement that this book took me on start to finish. I want to rewind each winning scene to experience it over and over again!!! Who needs a Super Bowl, A World Series, Stanley Cup, or March Madness when you can just READ THIS BOOK. I honestly had to get out of bed this morning because my excitement during the final scenes was getting to loud and I did not want to wake my better half….

The story starts with Beth Briscoe, aka Jaz (we are not the table Mrs. Ripton this is a celebration, so please excuse the nicknames!!) She was an AWESOME character who earned her reputation as a brawler both inside and outside the ring. Jaz went after life full force and never let her past weigh her down. The below quote endured me to this personality and I am thrilled she is now part of the Hildreth FAMILY of characters.

Ethan, Ethan, Ethan…..
What can I say about him, ummmmmm let me see, *tapping fingers on table*.
HE WAS THE BESTEST BOOKFRIEND EEEVVVEEERRR!!!!!!! He was the perfect match to Jaz. For today they might be my favorite Hildreth couple, for today, I am sure I will change my mind by 3:42pm. Bwhahahaha.
The below picture is a small glimpse into the wonderfulness of Ethan.

Ok, now for the wisdom behind the glory. Ripp, and Kelsey scooped out a larger place in my heart after this book. I loved every scene that they were in… Ripp is still cracking me up and Kelsey still is hiding his love in his grumpiness. Oh, and I will be remiss if I do not mention the bonus appearances you will get from some absolute FAVORITE characters, but you will have to read to find out who….. The below is a clue to one of my favorite scenes, and yes Kleenex were needed!!!

Overall, in my opinion this book was a VICTORY for Mr. Hildreth. “It was a weird combination that included an uncontrollable blubbering of emotion, many tears, and a little (a lot for me) laughter.”
The family the author created in Brawler was a wonderful example of how families can be created by who crosses our path and not always whom we are born too.
A MUST, MUST, MUST, READ…. That is it, that is all I got….

I LOVED this book. This is my first by this author and definitely won't be my last. The writing is so great and he promises to never write cheating into his story line. In this story the angst comes from outside sources which don't include OW/OM. This story proves he uses his imagination to come up with other ways to hook a reader unlike so many authors today. The love between the MCs in this book is flawless and selfless. They both come from tough backgrounds but learn what it is to truly love through each other. Loved all of the secondary characters as well. I will be going back to read their stories for sure. I think this is the longest review I've written if that tells you something.

Brawler is hands down one of the best books I've read. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous about Jaz because I was afraid she was not going to have a soft side. I was so wrong. Jaz was tough yet vulnerable, sweet yet in your face. My all time favorite h. Ethan, my God that man. Secure with himself, he was exactly what Jaz needed in her life. He proved that love could last. That not everyone walked away. This book had me all over the place with feelings...I was happy, crying, angsty, swooning. I didn't know if I was coming or going. The cherry on top? Dekk, Kelsey, Ripp and his amazing family! It was nice to sit around that table again. If you haven't read the Undefeated series go do it. It isn't necessary to understand this story, but you'll love it. I hope to see more about this couple! The epilogue wasn't far enough out. Please tell me there will be more!

**also for all my safety gang friends ....there was absolutely no cheating or ow/om drama. This was a true romance book. It had a fantastic page turning story with hot and sexy times woven in. Obviously, Mr Hildreth is paying attention to what people want.

I have read a lot of Scott Hildreth books and I have to say he is becoming one of my favorite authors. What I love the most about his writing, is that he is not afraid to pull emotions both bad and good out of readers when writing his characters. His characters are often raw and flawed and exhibit behavior at times that is so real, you feel like you know them, or could befriend them.

Jaz is no different. " This is my story. It's about fighting, fucking, and falling in love. In that order."

By chance Jaz is discovered by trainer Ripp, who shows her how to use her bad attitude and natural fighting talent to make it to the top.

Through Ripp, she meets Ethan, a man who will change her life and show her what is liked to be loved for who you are.

I wondered if this would ever happen an honestly I didn't expect it, never thought I would see the day Scott Hildreth could make me tear up.
I have never, ever cried while reading a Scott Hildreth book. I have never yelled at him either.

Until Brawler.

Y'all who are Hildreth fans or addicts are used to the sexy, tattooed, bulky as hell boxers in these books. Well, your about to meet the female equivalent of Shane Dekkar.
Jaz is a Badass, yes with a capital B. She had a rough start, is down on her luck living paycheck to paycheck. But thanks to a chance meeting and Mike Ripton (yay!!) she's got a chance at something she worked hard for as a teen.
When Ethan & Ripp see a chick stomp the ever loving hell out of a guy trying to steal her bag their intrigued, with a cup of coffee an a few questions she's headed to the gym to see if she's got what it takes.
Once Ripp sees her fight he agrees to train her. Jaz is thrilled at the chance to get back in the ring and of course jumps at the opportunity.
Meanwhile she's got her eye on another boxer, the sexy Ethan who seems to avoid her.
He's different than the boxers of the Un series, he's quiet and doesn't really have major issues, he's got beef with his dad but otherwise he's a pretty laid back, boy next door kinda guy.
If the boy next door was built like a God, hung like a horse and had a heart of gold.

So Jaz is fighting, she's winning, and she's working her magic on Ethan.
They get closer, her career starts to take off and finally Ethan has a shot as well. Things are headed in the right direction for everyone.

Then comes Tiny.

This is the point that I teared up.

First time ever I have cursed Scott Hildreth while reading a book, damn you for making me cry and making me want to scream at you because you totally effed up the happy little world in my head.

And then there's the father. I wish Kelsey had beat him down for the crap he tried to do to Ethan. Yes I know your all confused right now, no spoilers, just know you will want to hurt this man too!!
That was the second horrific thing to happen in this book but luckily things don't end there.
Brawler is a stand alone, HEA with no cliffhanger.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed, I got angry, I cried (just a little bit).
I think my favorite part was Mike telling Ethan about head stepping, I was smiling from ear to ear at the mention of something that brought back earlier books.

The female boxer is a different take than what I usually read but I have to say Jaz is so effing amazing. She's strong an not just physically, she's the model of what I love in my book heroines. A take no crap woman who's still feminine enough, can ask for help when needed and to be an equal in her relationships.

I know I said it already but I truly adore this story, bringing in so many old characters just made it complete. Even though Alec was only there for a minute I was thrilled to see his name too.
It's great when a blurb gets you so excited to read a book and then the story follows up and doesn't let you down, that keeps you turning the pages an daring anyone around you to speak to you and disrupt your reading. Brawler is that book, not that I expected any less given the author.

Paige's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I was a bit hesitant reading this due to the storyline of the book but I'm a huge fan of Scott Hildreth. The book didn't disappoint me . I was catapulted into a sweaty gym with Jazz, Ripp and Ethan.

While reading the first few chapters I was wondering where Scott was taking us. Jazz and Ethan had troubled pasts that stopped them from jumping into an emotional relationship. It didn't stop them from having hot and sweaty sex.

Along with the relationship with Ethan , Jaz formed tight bonds with Ripp and Kelsey, her trainer and mentor. She was able to form a tight group of friends due to her skills and no nonsense personality.

Just when I thought our characters had everything, the mat was ripped from under this group. If you've read this author then you should anticipate a shock and awe moment leading to a few tears.

Jazz and Ethan struggle in the end but their strength and perseverance help this couple with their HEA.

I'm starting to see a pattern with me lately. There are a lot of authors that I have heard of and have bought their books but haven't read them yet. Good for the author support, bad for the bank account. :) Scott Hildreth is one of those authors. So as far as this goes, he's a new to me author because this is the first book I've read of his.

I was instantly excited to read this book when I read the blurb. A bad ass female fighter? Umm, yeah, sign me up for that! Add the fact that it seems like she's absolutely against men right now and I'm sold. Now I'm thinking angry bad ass female fighter and I'm all over it. Then I get this in the prologue...

"This is my story. It's about fighting, fucking and falling in love. In that order."

OK, my mind is so fucking on board right now, it's ridiculous.

Jaz didn't exactly have the best childhood. Her only outlet was boxing but when tragedy strikes when she was sixteen, she stopped training the one thing that she loved. After a few years of escaping away from where she grew up, she has to use her boxing skills to protect herself. As fate would have it, someone in the current boxing world sees her and takes her under his wing.

I just loved Ripp, her new trainer. You can tell that he's a hard ass with a hugh soft spot. He gives it to her straight and puts in the time that she needs. He immediately sees her talent and zeros in on that.

"Fear will get you hurt and arrogance will get you knocked the fuck out. But confidence? Confidence will keep you in the game."

Ethan is a current boxer who trains at the same gym that Jaz is now part of. At first, you don't really get to know much about Ethan. As soon as Jaz lays eyes on him, she feels a connection. Strictly sexual at the time but there's something about him that she just can't seem to stop thinking about. So begins the chase. By Jaz.

I really liked Jaz. She's not afraid to speak her mind. She's strong, resilient and a true fighter. Emotionally and physically. She had the perfect mix of a strong alpha female lead but a little bit of that emotional need of being accepted and loved. She had just the right amount of vulnerability.

I went back and forth about Ethan. Sometimes he would seem like a strong male lead to me and then other times, I almost felt like he was meek. However, once he got on board with Jaz, he seemed to fall pretty quickly and said some of the sweetest things.

"You letting me part of your life satisfies me, Jaz. Completely. All the rest? Everything we do? The sex, the goofing around, the meals and the fighting? that makes each day with you seem like Christmas."

Besides Jaz, the best part of this book was Kelsey. He's another trainer in the gym and your typical old bitter man on the outside and a huge softy on the inside. He completely stole my heart and I loved every interaction he had with Jaz. Whether it was to yell at her, flip her off or show her just a little bit of his soft side. I also love the sense of family that we end up getting from all the characters.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from Scott Hildreth. If you are looking for a strong female lead with a good head on her shoulders but ultimately needs a little love, this is your book!

Confession time: this was my first Scott Hildreth book.

Recovered from the shock yet?

Now, I'm going to do my utmost best at keeping this spoiler-free, but trust me when I say this is one of my favorite books so far for 2016. By the end of the first chapter, I loved Jaz, she's one of the most kick-ass snarky young women I've had the pleasure of reading. And by kick-ass, I literally mean that (just read the first chapter to get a general idea of her badass-ness). I loved that she was street smart and it came across as realistic, not someone pretending to be all savvy about a life they don't know about.

Ripp is hilarious in this book; I've seen that fans are excited that Ripp is in this story, but I had nothing to go on with him since I haven't read his story (thankfully I got a lovely big denomination Amazon gift card for my birthday!), but I will be reading his book soon. He and Ethan meet Jaz after a spontaneous demonstration of her fighting skills and Ripp becomes her trainer, and with that, Jaz's life suddenly changes for the better.

Ethan, well, he is the one who manages to show Jaz that not all men are lower than slug slime. Dare I say, Ethan just might be one of the best book boyfriends I've read. Expressing feelings doesn't come easy for Jaz, but Ethan somehow works his magic with her and we get to watch Jaz become a little less guarded with her feelings. She'll still kick ass, but we get the softer, gentler Jaz.

There is a surprising incident that occurs toward the end of the book that shocked the hell out of me, and I swear I might have inhaled twice until I got to the end of the book, I was even more shocked by the choice Ethan's dad wanted to pursue. Thankfully Jaz took charge and told him how it was going to be. Ethan and Jaz get their HEA and we readers get a 5-star book from Scott Hildreth!

My Review of BRAWLER by Scott Hildreth
My Rating 5 Knock You’re A$$ Out STARS!!
Brawler is “NOT” to be missed. This is a “MUST READ”!! Book Hang-Over Here I Come!
This story was a breath of fresh air! Creativity at it’s finest! Scott Hildreth’s has a way of telling a story. I know I say this with each book I read of Scott’s, but I do believe out of all of them I’ve read, and I’ve read many. “I Now have a new favorite”!
Brawler is an amazing read, it has depth with each character the storyline is unpredictable, yet beautiful. Jaz is the whole package of female badass brawler who has persevered through hard times, an abusive past yet continues to work her a$$ off to get to the top of, not only her professional life, but she wants more in personal life and the journey she is on is about to collide her personal life with her professional. Don’t miss out on the Journey. I highly recommend this story as it shows us that through the hard times there is a brighter future if you just work for it. One click this book and let the gang take you on the ride of the unexpected story of a tough chick who creates intense chemistry with boxing as she does the man.
Come fall in love with Jaz!
This story has a knock out finish!

Very interesting book, I've haven't read a book were the heroine was very alpha like. Jaz is a girl who happened to beat up a guy trying to steal her backpack and Ethan & Ripp happend to be there. Ripp is a coach boxing coach which he sees that Jaz has really good skills. Jaz was amazing in the ring and a very strong women, she decided she wanted Ethan and she went for it which I liked it was cute how she was tough but still couldn't tell him how she felt she got all nervous. Ethan was not what I was expecting he was shy and not a man whore so that was a plus. The beginning it was ehh cause she would come on too strong but then later you see how tough yet vulnerable she became. Her boxing family was great always in her corner.

This book was so Amazing!! I fell in love with SH's Fighter Series and the wonderful characters he created, so to say I was excited to get more Mike "Ripp" Ripton would be an understatement.

Jaz has basically been on her own since escaping her abusive father when she was eighteen. She's beautiful and tough and had no idea what her life was missing until the day she met Ripp and Ethan. They witness her kicking a guy's a$$ who was trying to steal her backpack. Ripp immediately sees how talented Jaz is, and offers to train her to become a boxer. Jaz decides that not only would she like to see more of Ethan, but she likes how Ripp seems impressed with her and wants to make him proud. This is where our story begins.

Jaz and Ethan are both broken/lonely in their own way. Until finding each other, neither realized just how much they needed someone in their lives to help them become whole. There are some great fighting scenes with both Jaz and Ethan. Both have their own inner confidence when they're in the ring and it was fun watching Ripp and Kelsey interact with them. I don't want to say too much because you really need to read Brawler to experience all the wonderful feels it gives you. Jaz is a great female lead and I sincerely hope we see more of her character in the future. Ethan was perfect to balance her out and was really just a terrific guy.

Although Brawler is a standalone, I enjoyed being back in the gym with the characters I fell head over heels in love with and adore from the Fighter series. The stories surrounding Ripp and Dekk (and of course Kelsey) are too good not to experience, so if you haven't already, you should really read the Fighter series. The stories are entertaining and heart warming and ones you’ll read more than once.

I wondered if we’d get a little head steppin and of course Ripp did not disappoint. It was also awesome enjoying dinner with his mom and dad.

Brawler is told entirely from Jaz's POV with the exception of the epilogue. When it ended, I was sitting in my bed with a big ol' goofy grin spread across my face. It was so worth the extra few days and I can't wait to see what SH will give us next! I’ve already pre-ordered The Gun Runner coming this Fall.

Let me first start off by saying that Brawler is another Amazing book by Scott Hildreth. I am in awe of this man and his ability to write so many good, no GREAT books. One of my favorite things about his books, like with Brawler, is that he brings in past characters that we love, but the book is one in its self. Meaning, you don't have to read any of the prior books to know what is going on with the past characters and you will love them just the same!

Jaz is so spunky (I would use other words to describe her, but Amazon will censor me). She is BAD @SS! She loves sex, brawling, and falling in love. In that order. Brawler delivered, in that order. Jaz is the woman most of us want to be. She is not intimidated by anyone, can take you out and beat your arse, and still make sweet love to her man. She is humble, loving, and has a good sense of humor. Ethan, well Ethan I loved from the get go. He was quiet and reserved at first, but he threw me for a loop with a couple of the scenes with him and Jaz. I actually laughed out loud. Oh and the lovely Ripp! I was so very happy to see more of Ripp! It was great to see him blossom as a trainer. He has matured a little and is such a mature young man now. LOL. Kelsey always makes me laugh. No accolades for anyone. Just the walk away and the finger. Kinda reminds me of Scott's "......" I wish I could be in Scott's head as he is writing the Ripton family dinners. Then again, maybe not!

I love how Scott develops his characters to be cocky and fierce, but also humble enough that you can relate to them and really like each and every one of them. Each of Scott's books have a message in them. For me, Brawler spoke about abuse and overcoming the abuse. It also spoke to me about finding your inner self, being confident, letting someone love you for just being you, and going for your dreams, but being humble while doing it. It also spoke to me about taking your challenges head on and doing what needs to be done for yourself and family. Jaz didn't fight for the glory or the money (well a little for the money at the end) she did it because she was good at it and liked to fight. It made sense to her, it made her feel.

Well done Boss Man. Keep them coming!

4.5 Stars!

My first foray into Scott Hildreth's writing was with his fighter series. Shane Dekker and Mike Ripton are memorable characters. I've recommended that series more than any other of his starting with Undefeated. If you have read that series, you are going to LOVE Brawler! This story takes place after the conclusion of the other series. Ripp is a trainer now in Dekk's gym. He happens upon a feisty scrapper of a woman beating up a potential thief. Jaz has not trained in years but takes Ripp up on his offer to make her bad a$$.

The story here is about what it takes to reach for your dreams. Jaz is good but she flourishes with the attention she gets from Ripp and Kelsey at the gym. She is on her way to becoming GREAT and the guys could not be more happy for her. Although not her blood, they become her family. Along the way, she tries out giving her heart away. Life has not given her a good sense of belonging, but with the support from the gym and the blossoming love from Ethan, she finally feels at home.

Jaz and Ripp make the story for me. The banter and the humor are classic Mike Ripton. Jaz is basically a female version of him. I love the sport connection in the story. The reader trains and fights along with Jaz. Perfect sports romance for me! The weakest character is Ethan. He is a hot, muscular fighter, with plenty of his own family issues. And he does hold a place as Jaz figures out what it means to be in love. The s3x is off the charts between them. Bottom line--This is Jaz's story. The person who seems to most effect her life, is Ripp. Ethan helps her along in the background, but Ripp is the catalyst who moves Jaz forward toward the rest of her life.

Once again, fantastic writing by Mr. Hildreth. Worth the read even if you haven't read the other series. You will enjoy getting to know Jaz!

4 Hashtag F#@K yes stars!

What a thoroughly entertaining story. Jaz Briscoe is a gal down on her luck in Austin Texas. She has just been kicked to the curb, literally, by her boyfriend and is struggling to make ends meet. When a tattooed loser tries to steal her backpack she beats the crap out of him and gets the attention of Rip, a boxer and trainer. He sees something special in Jaz and offers to train her. She also meets Ethan and the attraction is instant. As she starts to train everyone realizes this girl has talent and she is quickly put in the ring and squashes her opponents. While she is finding her footing in the boxing world things with Ethan start to heat up, but not everything will come easy for Jaz, she has a few obstacles left in her way as she prepares for the fight of her life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it's refreshingly different from any other romance I have ever read. Jaz is a great character and I just loved her! She is strong, resilient, and has a heart of gold. No matter what life throws her way she takes it in stride. Ethan was a great fit for Jaz their unconventional bedroom antics were hot, sweet, and fun. A cast of stellar supporting characters added humor and balance to this one of a kind story.

Full Disclosure: This is not like ANY other male-written romance I've ever read. Typically (at least some of the ones I have read), the male authors basically make it porn in word form. Meaning there's no background story - it's just a bunch of random boning and usually group, threesome, etc. NOW that being said, that type of stuff has it's time and place and NOT every male romance/erotica author writes like that.

Brawler is the story of Jaz who is one tough @$$ chick. Girl can fight and soon finds herself training with other boxers - most of them male, including Ethan who she winds up falling for. Jaz is unlike any other woman Ethan has met and that intimidates him a little. But they end up getting things squared away and figured out.

This story is more than just a romance, it's a journey of self discovery. Jaz goes through a lot while she trains to be the champion, while in a relationship with Ethan and while being in a "family" as she comes to have at the gym. She learns a lot about herself and what she can handle.

A fantastic read!

BRAWLER is laugh-tastic, finger-flippin-funny and will leave you with the FEELS!!! Growing up you always think you may have it bad, but you find out going through life, some have it worse. But it doesn't have to define you...but it can make you stronger.
description
Jaz (Beth) Briscoe is someone you want to cheer for and you feel so many emotions reading this story of her rise in the boxing world. Having Ripp as her trainer is nothing short of laugh-tastic and Kelsey is just as finger-flippin-funny as ever. The love she gets from those two is nothing short of what family should truly be. They may not be blood, but their choices and actions speak louder than anything else. It was so great seeing her be so humble but incredibly talented, talented enough to be brought under Ripp and Kelsey's wings to have a shot at a life doing something she loved.
description
Ethan is just the sweetest shy-guy you want to gobble up! He is all man and will knock Jaz's panties off, but make sure you leave the gloves on....this is one KNOCK-OUT romance you wont want to miss. From the moment they meet you get the giggles from knowing how Jaz feels and what she wants...and she WANTS Ethan!
description
Jaz isn't just a boxer, she is the BRAWLER! Tuff as nails and fights for the win...but the win she wants most, wont be her fight to make...

5 Stars!

Are you ready for Scott Hildreth to rock your world once again? I swear this man is amazing and completely brilliant. Once again, he gave me a unique book that entertained and intrigued me to the absolute max. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down and found myself reading late into the night until this book devoured me and I devoured it right back. Scott Hildreth is one of my very favorite authors and this book proves just that.

Brawler was the perfect romance and probably my favorite to date that he has penned. This book was sexy, sweet, smart, intense, passionate, and had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. This is the kind of book that shows how flawless, perfect, and sensual Scott's writing can be. I laughed, smiled, swooned, shed a tear, got angry, and fell in love. You will go through a range of emotions with Brawler, but by the end it will all be worth it.

This is Jaz's story. One moment... that was all it took for everything in her life to change. Jaz was just trying to live, make ends meet and find herself again after losing it all but one moment and opportunity are going to forever change her life. Now everything is on the line... including her heart. When Ethan enter's her life, she is instantly drawn to him. Can she have it all, including love? Sit back, let Jaz light up your world, and make you believe in love.

God I loved Jaz. From the prologue, I knew she was going to be my kind of girl. Tough and smart on the outside but still vulnerable and humble on the inside. And the man who showed her unconditional love... Ethan. Get ready to swoon. He was the perfect man for Jaz and to show her that she could let down those fortress walls she had built around her heart. I rooted for these two hard. And the chemistry between them... off the charts HOT!

I highly recommend this book.

I was so looking forward reading Brawler by Scott Hildreth. I can say that Scott gives you 100%, when he writes a story. Hands down this book is one of my favorites he has written.
“On that day, the 6th of June, I turned twenty-five in the presence of one grumpy old fucker, my trainer and the man I was quickly falling in love with. And it was the best day of my entire life.”
This is the story of Jasmine aka Jaz who didn’t have the best life growing up, but that didn’t stop who she wanted to be regardless of where she was in life. I truly loved Jaz her personality was the best, but her attitude towards things was always blunt and to the point. When she meets Ethan she was attracted to him from the start, but I loved these two together they were friends before it into more. Having Ripp in this story and never game up on Jaz was the best. The secondary characters with Kelsey and Dekk made it even better. In this book we do get some drama, some sexy scenes but also a really good storyline from the first page till the last one.
“Let’s just agree that we’re always together in here.” He pressed the palm of his hand against my boobs. Eventually, it came to rest against my heart.”
“Every damned one of us is a fighter. It’s in our blood. Ethan included. We need to fight out here, and be strong for him. He’ll fight his own fight down the hall in the ICU.”
I can say for me that this book touched me in a way that, I can admit I cried over Jaz and Ethan but I even cried when it was a good part as well. I’m just going to say, I loved Kelsey as well. So after reading this book, I can say Scott Hildreth is the freaking man for reals. Scott never disappoints in his writing, but he has become one of the best authors out here. Don’t wait to get this book go one click it today.

I didn't expect anything but somethibg wonderful from Scott Hildreth.

Brawler had a great combination of sex and story. Oh and don't get me started on the plot!! Why'd you have to put me through that Scott??

You'll understand once you read the book.

The characters were written well. Out of all the characters Jaz was my favorite character. I connected more with her than the others. Ethan was written blandly for me. He was HOT in the bedroom, but his personality was at times bland to me. But since this was consistent throughout the story, I think the author wanted him to written in such a way. I don't know if that's correct! But that's my theory.

You know what I just love? I love when Scott Hildreth puts past characters from other novels in his books. I couldn't remember the characters relation from the last books at first, but I think I got it now...hopefully :)

Either way Scott H. your the real MVP for bringing in any past characters in this new novel. I loved that.

The hotness in this book was just scorching. That's all I have to say about that.

Overall wonderful book 4.5 star rating

Hold on tight because here comes Jaz and she's not stopping until she's on top! Brawler is a fast-paced rags-to-riches story with a heroine that you will love from the first page. Jaz has had a rough life, an abusive father and no mother. When she has a chance meeting with Ripp and Ethan, things change drastically...professionally and personally. Ripp trains her to be the best boxer she can be and Ethan makes her believe in love again, maybe for the first time.
Brawler is a smokin hot read that will have you holding your breath as well as grabbing for the tissues (not for that....for tears). It was so great to have Ripp and Kelsey in this book! I sure have missed those guys!
You won't want to put Brawler down, even for a minute! Another five star read from Scott Hildreth!

Wow! I have come to expect the unexpected from this author but Jazz is one of a kind! Jazz wants Ethan from the moment she lays eyes on him and she's determined to have him. It broke my heart, though, the way she was waiting for him to leave her, just so sad. Their journey is gut wrenching and filled with love, lust, joys and heartbreak.
And, Ripp is back! OMG, I love him! He's my favorite BBF! It was great to see the new gym and Dekk and Kelsey, and have I mentioned, Ripp is back!

Another awesome one Mr. Hildreth! I have always loved these characters and this book reminded me why. Ripp? I would love to sit and listen to his stories, he's hilarious! Kelsey? Love his gruff exterior but he's got a big heart. And Jaz? She is a total bad ass. Thank you for bringing back some favorites and adding new ones to the list!
