One Night

Rate this book
Natalie was simply enjoying the final night of a Girls’ Weekend by herself in the lounge area of the hotel after a nasty break up. The stranger on the other side of the fireplace was only supposed to be a rebound, one-night stand.
Somehow she became his muse.
Now the world is wondering who the inspiration for Jake Steele’s sexy new character is.

Jake was simply enjoying his usual ritual of sipping some very expensive whiskey to celebrate the completion of his seventh novel. The stranger on the other side of the fireplace was only supposed to be an enjoyable, one-time distraction.
Somehow she became his muse.
Now he can’t get her out of his head.

When Natalie confronts Jake in a bookstore, after reading the details of their tryst in his new novel, will the fireworks that ensue lead to disaster…or true love?

This is a humorous, stand-alone BWWM Interracial Romance, HAE novel. No Cliffhangers! Due to steamy scenes it is for 18+ only!

After finding out her boyfriend of two years was cheating. Natalie friends decides to take her on a very much need girls getaway. Unable to sleep Natalie goes to lounge to read and drink in solitude. There she meet Jake, whose celebrating the success of completing the final draft of his book. Sexual heat is strong between the two and mutually they decide what to do with that. A one night stand that end up leaving a very strong impression for both.

I loved the the pace of the book it felt somewhat realistic. In a since it wasn't over the top with unnecessary drama. No insta-love, but they each felt something that end up growing into love over the months and then strongly after their second encounter. With the author having the dual pov (3rd person) It was easier to see the growth both characters made through out the mstory.

I received an ARC copy of One Night by Camilla Stevens.

Stevens sets her multicultural romance off by not selecting the man to be a billionaire. Hallelujah! It was refreshing to meet a plain non-billionaire successful writer, writing under a pseudonym, without a long string of zeros after double integers in his account.

Celebrating the successful completion of his seventh book, Jake Cavanaugh is sitting alone, late after midnight enjoying his whiskey as Natalie Damond, a librarian, recovering from a broken relationship goes down to the bar to get a night cap. Their encounter is precisely what she is looking for, and what was supposed to be a one-night stand turns into her becoming Jake’s muse as they satisfy each other’s sexual hunger.

There are some hot scenes in the book with very explicit sexual language, which may be offensive to some people, but I did not consider the book as being erotic.
What I specifically like was her timeline. Not everything happened in the twinkling of the eye. She took the time to let the relationship develop over months.

Also, unlike so many books, regardless of whether they are multicultural relationships or relationships dealing with two people of the same race and nationality, the book has a plot with a realistic story.

Cute book, I really liked this story. Jake and Natalie were sweet and the whole hot one night stand, fall in love and live happily ever after is not new but this story was good and definitely worth the read.

I would say that this fell into the category of a more conventional romance story. No twists and turns or adventure involved. Two strangers meet, have a hot night that neither of them can forget and meet again and fall in love with very little obstacles between them. The one thing I will say is, I did appreciate the author talking about Natalie's hair issues lol Only a few interracial romance authors address this when it comes to writing love scenes in the shower or pool/Jacuzzi, so I was totally here for it when Camilla did. I also liked that the author addressed the interracial aspect of Jake and Natalie's relationship in a very realistic way that was not over the top but, pretty spot on. I loved that Jake stood his ground on how he wrote the characters in his own book and his approach to "the powers that be" that wanted to tweak things. Good for him and even better for Natalie. She definitely found herself a good man, period. So it was a nice story, well-written, good love scenes. 3.5 stars.

Sweet and Steady Summer Read... ARC for Honest Review

This was a very sweet book. I kept anticipating some form of drama, but it was as advertised. Steady and sweet. Jake and Natalie were a very cute couple, their sex scenes weren't over the top and their chemistry sizzled. I almost wish it were longer, as some of the external issues were very interesting (re: pressure on authors to change their books to be more palatable to Hollywood). And the book signing scene had me smiling from ear to ear. All in all, I really enjoyed this book. So if you're looking for a drama-free, sweet love story, get this book!

Great Read!

Very enjoyable. Loved the extended family members! Just enough drama but no tragic angst driven separations. Please don't let a sequel to this lovely couple ruin what was well done in this introduction. This is my kind of romance.

Jake and Natalie had chemistry from the beginning notes of their witty banter. Being themselves right off because they had nothing to lose or prove.

No one in their respective families or friends was preachy or judgemental. Even Natalie's grandma was cool! Again enough enjoyable read!

Truly enjoyable

Such a grown up romantic afternoon read...such chemistry between 2 adults who turned a potential awkward morning after and walk of shame into a beautiful relationship..Jake and Natalie have a steamy meeting in a hotel room that led to him using her as his muse for his novel detailing their amorous night of passion which led to their coupling...of course her parents read the book...and told her aunt who told her grandma...and things got interesting..

What I Liked/What Worked
I thought this was a nice romance. It does not take the reader on an emotional roller coaster, but just two people falling in love with each other. The author was great at the subtlety as to how Natalie gets under Jake's buzzed skin. She continues to read and ignores him in the first chapter. I enjoyed how they started bickering from the start with him being upset that she poured the shot of whiskey in her milk drink. I liked how Jake trusts his instincts and tells Natalie as much as he can about his tattoo he got in memory of his friend and co-worker who was a black man. Again, the author is subtle in showing how Jake has been around blacks and doesn't have any problems with being with Natalie. Liked the sentence on at location 598, second full paragraph in Jake's section. "Jake loved the feeling of a woman experiencing pleasure around him, and Natalie was damned responsive to his touch." Sex scenes are nice and hot. I wanted Natalie to be gone when Jake awakes the next morning to add more intensity to the story. I love Jake's kink: smelling and keeping the panties, wanting to keep the drapes open, and licking her anus, etc. Natalie's whole family is too funny when it comes to the book and the sex scenes. They are so matter-of-fact about, even her grandmother, and she is embarrassed as hell. The bookstore scene was also funny. It also shows that Jake is a natural hunter and once he has Natalie in his sights, he is not letting her go. He has coffee, then dinner and then breakfast the next morning with her. The Terri interest in Jake adds a little drama. I was able to correctly predict that she would attempt to cause problems between Natalie and Jake. I really enjoyed how the author has the two discuss what was said and move passed it. That seemed realistic. I liked the cover. The one thing I liked the most in text was how Jake dealt with the color difference head on. He told his sister Natalie's color without reservation. He did not allow the publisher or movie people to change her color.

What I Didn't Like/What Didn't Work
In chapter 2, I think the author cheats a bit by using references to real life famous men instead of writing the descriptions herself. The initial sex scene was way too slow and long. It takes up a third of the text. By the time I got to chapter nine of the book, I wondered if all the time and space given this scene would cause other areas to be rushed. And yes, I was correct. This scene is too long for length of the text and I think the author needs to make the text longer to keep this scene intact or cut it. I would have liked to have the Starbuck's scene be longer, but since so much space was used up on the Lake Tahoe scene, we didn't get that. I also did not like that the author did not show where the characters exchange contact information. I thought this was rather important because it was probably the one fact that kept Jake separated from Natalie for so long.

Questions
How did Aunt Gloria know what happened in Lake Tahoe?

Oh My!!!

I can't believe how long I've had this book in my library and just now read it!!! I LOVED IT!! I really enjoyed the fact that it was perfectly written minus the same old, same old. Just refreshing to get to enjoy a love story that skips the couple being torn apart by some huge misunderstanding or conspiracy to divide them. Only to be reunited after the frustrated time apart to make the book longer. I love a good LONG book. But I enjoy a good love story too. Even if it's a short read. Great job! I'll be looking now for everything I can find by Camilla Stevens. You've just been added to my list of favorite authors. Thank you for sharing your talent!!

Rounding this book up to 4 stars, it was sweet and entertaining with not a lot of drama. I enjoyed both the hero and heroine and their bickering early on, and I liked the rest of the characters even when they weren't in it a lot. I appreciated that the author actually dealt with the interracial aspect of the relationship and didn't pull the don't see colour bs. I will say that the actual night of the one-night-stand took a little too long which meant the rest of the book was rushed and I felt like this book didn't really flow all that well because I was never hooked. However, I still enjoyed reading this.

I saw this book in my recommended reading list and the storyline caught my attention so I decided to give it a try. So glad I did. I really enjoyed Jake and Natalie's story. The addition of Natalie's family was an added treat. I really loved that it wasn't the typical alpha male or billionaire but was instead a nice steamy romance with some laughs thrown in. Glad to discover this author and would definitely read her again.

Oh my! This story and the chemistry between Natalie and Jake was moving along so nicely and then BAM!!!- a sex scene crosses the line between erotic and straight into gross and disgusting. Why???
I love the way Jake stood up to the movie studio when they wanted to replace Natalie's character with a white actress in Jake's best selling novel. Jake more than proved that skin color had no bearing on their relationship.

Decent story; another trash leading man

I'll make this brief. Jake is garbage. He insults Natalie's tastes constantly. From what she drinks, the shoes she wears, even going so far as to let her know that she killed his libido by wearing a shower cap. Even worse though is that he is constantly uses his strength advantage to maneuver her or not let her move freely. Really not sure why women authors continue to right these type of men. Are they really that appealing???

This is one of those novels that have you smiling the whole time. During a cathartic weekend getaway with friends, Natalie meets an irresistible Jake. Their one-night stand inspired Jake to create a character in his latest book that is Natalie’s doppelgänger. Angry Natalie went to confront Jake about using her likeness without her permission but her anger quickly dissolved and their passion reignites. A great read with no unnecessary drama or ridiculous misunderstandings.

Hot!

This story was easy to read and detailed enough to draw you in. The characters were easy to relate to... Although I wish the ending would have been written out better instead of just kinda ending.

Fun times

I liked the story and the lack of forced drama. It was refreshing and fun. Her mom and dad were a hoot. Grandma had me laughing so hard. This is a fun read. I would have like to see a more in-depth epilogue.

Cute book

I really liked this book. The characters were extremely likable and I really appreciated not having the heroine stupidly start a fight that broke them up at the end. Needs minor editing.
