Creative tensions and “mildly erotic subcurrents” proliferate as Esther and her Svengali boyfriend battle Susan and Daisy for a £5,000 Film Festival prize.
I love this series but I've thought before that the girls needed more depth and I'm not seeing any growth, so I didn't have that warm, fuzzy, buzzy feeling from this issue. I did appreciate how they managed to perfectly illustrate how terrible those amateur films were though. It gave me quite a chuckle to see tennis balls in shot, green suits not quite edited out and an over-the-top cheesy daisy. The boy crazy is getting old for Esther but I'm all for living through Susan right now. I'd swipe right on witnessing those adventures! Still chipping away at this series.
Esther's continuous boy craziness makes for great laughs as this time it lands her in a movie role being directed by her boy crush for a film festival which in turn drives Susan to win the money being offered as the prize while Daisy is along for the ride.
Still reading and laughing alongside these girls while laughing at my own memories of college.
Amusing but the plot itself felt rather familiar, what with Esther flinging herself at a man she barely knows (aka the tutor from previous issues) with hijinks ensuing. Maybe a bit rehashed and I'd have liked a bit more..development in her character? Though, I have to say, the movies themselves were wonderful and reminds me of a recent SNL skit. And Esther is still my favorite zany character.
'Reality is a constant hailstorm on her head, she says that's why she drinks.' THis was witty, real and absolutely bonkers. SO what else is new. 'I've got a problem with high end candles...' I feel you girl.
