Mary Jane, a struggling comedienne, stumbled into the wrong club at the wrong time. She didn't notice the gangster gripping the gun and the two scary men on his sides. She just jumped on the stage, tested the microphone, and went into her routine.

And that's where things got interesting.

Noah was the gangster that gripped the gun. The Beast of Din City. The Boss of the Streets. The one who ruled them all from the North to the South. Not liking to murder women, he'd now been thrown into an uncomfortable situation. She'd accidentally become a witness to something she shouldn't have seen.

She'd now become a problem.

Yet, their gazes met and hearts faltered, thump, thumping in their chest like a tune beat out from bullets slicing through the air and bodies crashing to the ground.

Their gazes met and things would never be the same for him or her, nor the Streets. Their gazes met and he decided not to kill her, instead he took her on a journey where sex meets the rhythm of the streets, high to low, smooth to rough, growing inside of them both until they're not sure, if any of them will survive—him, her, or those bloody streets.

Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.

Words are power,
and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.

It's an audacity to inspire
and teach the healing of love through arousal.

It's this crazy idea that love
can not only help a reader escape,
but the story can also teach the person
about being human,
while making them laugh,
cry,
and hot for more sex.

CREATIVE, EXCITING AND MEMORABLE READ!!!!!! VERY APPROPRIATE TITLE !!!!!!!

This was Noah and Mary Jane's dark read and those secondary characters who worked for Noah were all-beat-all fierce too!!!!!

"Power" was unapologetically dark, featuring aspects of the paranormal, the funnies throughout, suspensefully violent with drama and an explicitly sexy storyline that I really enjoyed all because innocent Mary Jane landed in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peeps, you know a book is good when you're rereading portions or bookmarking quotes for comic relief or the heated sexy talking by NOAH, YES NOAH!!!!!!!!! , etc... or saying to yourself, "say what!" or "no he didn't!" or saying "oh yes he did!" Kenya Wright put everything in this one!
NO SPOILERS FROM ME ON THIS ONE PEOPLE... JUST READ IT!

OH! Just had one question though? Kenya. is. there. going. to. be. more. books. to. "Power"? Secondary characters were so likeable and memorable that I feel they all need books too ... hint-hint! And that big betrayal... well!

Okay... sooooo close to a 5!

I enjoyed this book... like seriously I laughed a lot in the beginning and everything was going fine and I planned on hitting that 5 star.... and then about 85% I was like okay okay wait wait pause HUH...didn't see the creepy rounding the corner but it was like BAM... threw me a little left.... a lot left actually.

It seems like the story will continue with Crusher and Harmony aka no words lol

So all in all good read

Disclaimer: I chose to not finish Power and stopped after Act 1
Reason for the DNF: When a book evokes thoughts of you flinging your e-reader across the room....well, then, you either throw the gadget (as if) or dump the book.....At best it read like a derivative of every mob book out there; at worst, simplistic and quite unbelievable.

Keyna is one of my favourite authors and so I was looking forward to reading this story. I have nearly all her books even though I have not read them all.

Well Noah and Mary Jane's story was romantic and hilarious and definitely worth the read. They were also a little crazy too.

This is a story written by Kenya Wright, so it goes without saying that it was awesome, weird, unpredictable and sexy.

Likes
-The layout/format, you may think that this isn't all of that important but it's pretty and sets the tone.
-The cover, the story is titled power and the swirling red cloud over the city depicts this nicely.
-The quotes at the beginning of each chapter, it's very interesting to see the slapstick humor of centuries (millennia?) past, and it fits with Mary Jane's brand of comedy.
-This meet-cute is so wonderfully hilarious and I really enjoyed the rapport between Mary Jane and the side characters as well as her gangster boy.
-Noah was cold and hard on the outside but a complete teddy bear with a gun beneath the surface.
I love that there was so much backstory! I felt like I really got to know the characters and that they were real and in 3d.
-305!Fuji! Even creepy Crusher (His & Harmony's story should be very interesting). Vinese(I hope we get to play in her world in future books)
-I loved that the road to the HEA was so unexpected!

Dislikes
-Insta-lust in a life threatening situation.
-The whole 'drawn to MJ for her purity' bleh.

Good crime thriller. Dark and twisty, the male protagonist is no genuine hero although the female protagonist is a heroine.

Noah meets Mary Jane in a comical way... I don't want to spoil it but it's a bit of lightness in an mostly dark romantic thriller. There's chemistry from the get-go and the two can barely keep their hands off each other. Aside from the passion, there's an intellectual connection between them that is appealing.

Amidst their love story is a gang war breaking out and it's an extremely dangerous time for them to meet & fall in love. But fall in love they do and Noah won't let anyone take Mary Jane from him.

Definitely not for those looking for a light read but if you like noir and romantic suspense, this is book is a very satisfying erotic thriller. I recommend it!

Kenya Wright is one of my favorite authors and she didn't disappoint with this story. MJ and Noah were a cute couple and for MJ to be so young was very mature. I even enjoyed the supernatural elements it wasn't in your face but just spoke of a higher power greater than us. I hope this story turns into a series would like to see MJ and Noah again plus I need to know what's going to happen with Rainbow and Slasher. Oh and what was Aristotle's premonition about a baby that Noah tunes out?

Just weird, but not in a good way.

I love me some Kenya Wright, but this book is just a disjointed mess. MJ is just annoying and too stupid to live, and the other characters come off so one dimensional. But there is something really fun about this book, hence the three stars. The saving grace for this book were the sex scenes (scorching), and Noah. Noah is definitely book boyfriend level .

Not My Favorite

I think the relationship should of been built up more between MJ and Noah. It seems they just jumped right into it. One minute he was thinking about killing here and the next she's getting oral sex on the beach. It moved to fast.

The whole Aristotle part in the book was od creepy. Didn't understand it. Neither the gypsies part. I would say it gave the book another dimension to it. It was not just about gangs and stuff. Was it needed? To me no.

The book started off great and it was funny and kept the reader entertained. But towards the middle it started to get weird. I'm like it's it a dark book or a paranormal book.

Not my favorite by Kenya.

Happy Reading!!

Eh,

I didn't like this story that much. It was descriptive enough, I really liked Noah. He was a real bad ass. I like the heroine to a certain extent, she needed proof for everything that Noah did. For ex: going to the cursed/haunted house just to believe the danger. I would've stayed my butt with the body guards. She was really irritating to me. Her personality was weird, yet refreshing. I understand her being a ride or die, but there are certain things I wouldn't do. It just wasn't my kind of book. The book could've ended like 200 pages earlier.

Good Story But......

I didn't like the fact that he changed. He was who he was and I didn't have a problem with that. How does Mary Jane get to be herself but he had to change. If she couldn't stand the heat then she should have gotten out of the kitchen.

Very Disappointing!!!!!

Review: This book isn’t my usual type of read, it took me a bit to get into it. Wow, once I did however it was very fast paced gang related read. Noah is the King of Din City he’s got quite the army of gang members. He has to make decisions that will ruin friendships and family. He falls in love with MaryJane who was in the wrong place for a job in comedy club.
Can their love survive? Can they survive the war that is raging between the gang? Will Noah be able to give up his territory and power without a fall out? And get his HEA??

Power had all the ingredients for a highly entertaining read, to laughter and jokes, twists and turns, action and suspense, romance and hot sex, sweet and hot, we even get a little paranormal!!! Intriguing right????? Power is a fast paced novel that had me laughing so many times with Mary Jane, she is just a hoot, and holy hot stuff Noah, who can certainly light your panties on fire. We get my favorite with a dual POV, I love reading from both it gives you a lot more insight into the story. WOW, if you are looking for a awesome read, look no further then Power, you won't be disappointed!! Reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Carolyn.

POWERFUL!

This is an excellent story. A budding stand up comedienne goes into a club and witnesses a murder. What's a crime boss to do? KIDNAPPED! Mary Jane is held captive by ice cold Noah. Pretty soon, Noah and his crew are captivated by the lovely Mary Jane! Throw in Crusher, Fuji, 305, Aristotle and Mo, and you've got yourself a heck of a thriller romance!

This was actually a nice read. A bit too long but nice.
The three stars is because of Mary Jane. Towards the middle I very much started disliking her. By the end I wanted Butterfly to kill her.

Definitely Different!

This is totally different from any book that I have ever read. I had to focus because the story was not predictive. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was totally fooled! But I had to continue down the rabbit hole! Welcome to Din City!

This was a uniquely seamless blend of humor, violence, romance, suspense, and other miscellaneous factors to a spicy book. Wright handled tonal shifts of the work adeptly, felt organic and dynamic at times, although I will add the caveat that, admittedly, the book gets weird at points; however, I felt the vibes were sufficiently good to facilitate just going with it.

Mary Jane's tongue-in-cheek approach to the organized crime machinations around her added the perfect amount of levity without feeling jarring. Overall, Mary-Jane was a delightfully quirky FMC to root for. I loved her being a comidianne, bursting with personality without ever straying into cloying or caricaturish territory. While I thought Noah was a bit too forward too early on, I feel like, in the larger scheme of things, it was fine.

I liked Wright's decision to use Philogelos as the inspiration for the chapter intros, and the balance of irreverence and unflinching grit. It was the perfect juxtaposition for the romance. Again, a reader might have notes, but don't take it too seriously, and they might find it is an engaging read.

Unfreakingbelievable!!!

This story was EPIC!!! Mary Jane had me rolling all over the floor! Lol. Actually all of them did, Noah, Fuji, Crusher, 305 and Mo (Mohawk). I couldn't stop laughing even between all the betrayals, back-stabbing, lying, killing, oh the killing (love that by the way) and the hot erotic sex scenes, this story had it all and once again I was glued to every single word and did nothing until I was done! Damm, but this story was so freaking awesome. Mary Jane cracked me up. She is beautiful and marvelous. Another fantastic read!!! So many great parts, I've bookmarked so many pages, Lol.
