In a world of five men to one woman, chaos is just the beginning.
At a young age, Piper and her sister Ruby are placed into the prison system designed to keep the female population safe. With the knowledge Piper obtains about the program that women are forced into at age eighteen, Piper retaliates against the guards and finds herself locked in maximum security.
It’s been seven years since she’s seen her younger sister. For every disobedient act, she’s forced from a prison cell into a cage barely big enough for a dog.
Her determination to rescue Ruby from the program is what keeps her going. In the decade that Piper’s been locked up, the world has changed significantly. Women are forced to have a master, obey their every command, or expect severe discipline, in this futuristic yet reminiscent society of the Victorian era.
Can Piper trust the handsome guard, Charlie, or will he betray her at the first opportunity possible? Will the rebels that help free her from the prison expect something in return? Forced to face the world head-on, Piper must learn to submit in order to survive.
This dystopian novel features elements of age-play, spanking, anal play, with an emphasis on both the Victorian and Western eras.
I liked this book📙 a lot but I think the women would have held all the power with a ratio of 5 men to 1 woman! Women💃💋 would be worshipped, exalted. Men🐺🌋🍆 would fight🔫🔪 and die over the chance to have a woman💃 as a wife👰. Children would have been highly valued. Female children would have commanded high tribute💰 from a future husband.
That is the opposite to what happens in this book, which makes no sense. In this war torn🔫🔪 dystopian book about what is left of The United States, women💃 are imprisoned for the only reason being that are women💃, and a lot of men are murdered, in an apparent attempt to reduce the number of men. The women in the new society are treated as slaves, and ill treated, too.
In the book, the men🐺🌋🍆 want a throw back Victorian society where woman💃 are always subservient to men, can carry no weapon🔪, must be escorted everywhere, can only wear dresses💃, can't cuss, the list of rules and taboos was long. Corporeal punishment✋✋✋✋ was the norm for infractions.
Even if you dont agree about how the futuristic society turns out, the book may make You do some thinking about where real society has been and where it's going!
YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍆, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎
There are numerous xxx scenes in the book, so adults only! The ending was an unneeded diversion from most of the story. It got weird with the daddy play. I don't know why the sister's story was added on to the end.
The Author fronted me this ARC for a Voluntary and Honest Review.
The Victorian Shift is a futuristic story set in the year 2125. Our heroine, Piper, after having spent more than 10 years in prison for simply managing to stay alive, miraculously escapes with the aid of a new young guard (Charlie). Their escapades, to maintain their freedom and develop their relationship, are the basis of this fast paced, erotically charged, spanking romance. The addition of Piper’s 18 year old sister, Ruby, and the discovery of a futuristic (historical) western town play a major role in the ultimate conclusion of this book. Additional story lines may easily be expanded upon, so I expect (hope) that more is coming. This well developed and well written book has a little something for everyone, so it easily earns its 5 Star rating. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The blurb for this book promised something a bit different, and I won't deny that it was a rather creative story. Unfortunately, it just did not gel for me, and at times it felt rather like the author wanted to include an assortment of plots - tossing them in rather haphazardly. There were abrupt, unexplained changes in characters' attitudes as if several paragraphs that may have explained the shift were removed - or the story ran the show rather than character development.
There were simply too many disjointed story parts and not enough character development in my opinion. Ruby's relationship with Beck was a very odd part of the book that felt tossed in for no other reason than to have added a particular kink. Some interesting parts were never explained at all - such as what had happened to Piper and Ruby's mother, and what was in that letter. Maybe the the author plans a follow up book to cover some of these holes.
As far as the erotic bits, I'm afraid those didn't work for me either. Perhaps this is a personal issue, but after describing how long it had been since Piper had taken a shower or bath, all the sweating, falling in the dirt, fighting, etc. that she and Charlie had done during their travels, I simply could not enjoy the... ummm.... intimate encounters between them without a good deal of discomfort and downright disgust - blech! It wasn't so bad after they'd gotten clean, but by then the relationship between Charlie (I'm afraid the name, Charlie, didn't exactly bring to mind dominant man either - but now I'm just being picky) and Piper just wasn't working for me anyway.
I enjoyed this futuristic, post-apocalyptic, dystopian world. The calendar year may read 2125, but after the government had crumbled, the new regime decided that they would revert to the Victorian era of nearly 300 years prior. Women have no rights, are expected to be docile and obedient, they will wear long gowns and speak and act like a proper lady. Men are in charge and expected to keep their women in line. Women are placed in programs and prisons to be “trained” in an appropriate behavior, and they are given to a master to obey, and if they get out of line, they will be harshly punished. The plot of this amazing story that I really hope is the beginning of a series, has Piper in a cage like an animal in prison, Charlie is on his first day at the facility, and they are bombed where she escapes. Rebels need women, and she is one of their chosen targets. It is a battle between a rebel group and Charlie to protect and keep her alive, finding her sister Ruby and a new way of life. Not all believe in the Victorian shift in government, a select group in Montana live in a Western lifestyle compound, work together as a co-op, and that is where this trio will head. The story has some intense moments, dominant men, even in the compound, plenty of spankings, angst, and life and death moments
Victorian Shift is a well written post-apocalyptic adventure romance. The plot had depth and was very interesting and enjoyable. Scenery and actions were well described and I was able to visualize easily. The characters were real and pulled me into the story. Piper is a fighter, just trying to survive and never knowing who to trust. Charlie is a new prison guard and I wanted to trust him from the beginning; but Levi helped Piper and seemed genuine too. As the story unfolds we learn their true characters. I don't know Ruby as well as Piper, but she's definitely softer, less hardened. We were just getting to know Ruby better, along with some new characters, Roy and Beck, when the book ended. It was a logical place to end, but the age play had just begun, so I hope there will be a sequel. It was an excellent book.

This second re-visit was again very entertaining. Set in a society where women and children are property even placed in prisons this tale has a very dark edge to it. Piper and a guard Charlie at the prison she was in set out to find her sister Ruby. There is heat in this one and attempted assault. Gang this is not a great society that the winner of the war had going for them. The author has shown the reader a pretty horrible place to live an excellent job of writing. I liked the book when I first read it and this second re-visit was again very entertaining. For my friends who like books put out by this publisher, I am happy to recommend it. The book may have a bit too much heat for some of my other friends. I have to admit I hope you check it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book starts right out with action and gets you involved with the characters. Just like Piper you aren't sure who she should trust either. It is slowly revealed to you so that you learn along with her who to trust. It isn't just the main story there is a bit of a second story line that i could see sparking another book as a companion but it is still a stand alone story still. It is a good weekend read and quite steamy. It does contain some BDSM but that is not the main focus. I thought it was a well written book

I found this to be an enjoyable story that seems to be set in the future where women are commodities and have no rights. The plot seems well constructed and the author has done a great job world building. I liked the main and secondary characters, some I found myself rooting for whilst others seemed to have no saving graces. There are some wonderful twists and turns in the story and the secrets are told as the story evolves.

The men out number the women in Piper’s world 5 to 1 and so girls are locked in a prison system to keep them safe. Piper learns what happens to the girls when they turn 18 and retaliates against the guards until they lock her up in maximum security. A decade passes and the now women are forced to have a master and submit to their every whim or be disciplined. Piper needs to escape in order to safe her sister, who can she trust? Fast-paced, dark read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. A fast-paced read with strong characters and great world building. I liked it.
Did you ever wonder how society moved from what we know today to what is most often described as "Steam Punk?" Well, wonder no more! This is a fabulous attempt to detail just what might be involved in making such a shift. I don't normally like Steam Punk, but I loved this one! Great story, wonderful characters!
I was given a copy by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very different Victorian story than the most I have read. Two sisters Piper and Ruby and the men Charlie and Beck who make the two women their Littles. There is suspense, drama, danger, spankings, twists, turns, villains, one rule mentality, and romance. I enjoyed reading. This was a really exciting book. It started with MC Piper in prison and a sympathetic guard, Charlie and their struggle for survival. Just a awesome read. I loved it and once again I'm off to Amazonto see if there are more by this author to read.
The author gave us characters that are amazing and engaging with chemistry throughout the pages and the storyline offered enough steam to keep me turning the pages.
