Barbarian Chicks & Demons Vol. 1 is a bold, unapologetic blast of dark fantasy pulp, and it knows exactly what it wants to be. Erich Hartmann throws us into a savage, medieval-inspired world where powerful warrior women and inquisitors don’t ask for permission—from guards, from paesents and priests, or even from demons themselves. They take control, and they do it with style. Erotic Style, that's it.
The fully painted artwork is the real showstopper here: lush, dramatic, and packed with real erotic atmosphere. Every page feels carefully composed, with a strong sense of weight, a little menace, and ample sensuality, without ever losing its fantasy edge. The characters radiate confidence and dominance, and the demonic and brutal elements lean into classic sword-and-sorcery vibes, f course with an erotic touch.
This isn’t a subtle or restrained read—it’s shameless, flamboyant, and proudly over-the-top—but that’s exactly its strength. If you enjoy dark fantasy with powerful female leads, striking painted art, and a pulpy, devil-may-care attitude, this volume delivers in spades. A visually stunning and entertaining ride from start to finish.

A series of smutty vignettes about warrior women who use their sexuality to defeat men and demons alike. Most of the stories are unrelated, but a couple involve the same character on different adventures. The stories aren't deep and are fairly silly in premise, but their is a punchy sense of irony to many of them that demonstrates Erich Hartmann's wittiness. The story about the exorcism was probably the funniest of the lot, but most of the other entries were enjoyable as well. The artwork is stunning thoughout, with lush painted sequences that are incredibly striking.

All the vignettes were basically the same just in different settings and characters. But the artwork, inks and colors were pretty good. Decent quick read, but certainly not thought provoking.

Not For the Faint of Heart - Barbarian Chicks & Demons Vol 1 Review

So I'm back to some naughty reading as I begin a sort of mini vacation, and decided to forgo readings and reviewing Punch Up! Vol 2 in favor of picking this one off the shelf and seeing where it takes me. Indeed, we got this a while back because it looked interesting, and I must say that I was not disappointed, enjoying the fantasy setting and the fun female characters, though I will admit that some of the depictions in this volume are a little problematic. Still, armed with some spiced rum, I proceed with the review.

First, the art. This is a European book, from the Eurotica line of erotic comics, and the art is simply gorgeous, all painted, all presented in oversized pages. Really can't oversell the production and look of the book. The women are stunning, varied and interesting, and while the men leave much to be desired, the focus here is much more on the ladies, which for this was the way to go. There are also a few monsters and the like, which are also well done and probably the most interesting and fun aspect of the volume. The sex itself is rendered with care and showcases a variety of positions and combinations of men, women, etc.

And the volume is really a series of stories that, while they don't all intersect, do follow three main characters. One, an inquisitor, is given the most attention in terms of stories, and she's definitely the most fun of the characters. She's strong and constantly in control, entering into very sexual situations because she wants to and because she has the power to do so. The other characters, though, are often a little less willing entrants into the sexual situations. The thief, who stars in two stories, is in both of them forced into sex. In the first she enjoys herself under the circumstances and in the second she manages to turn the tables, but still, that those parts are not consensual bothers me a little.

The same could almost be said of the barbarian chick, who also gets two stories. She is shown a bit more as placing herself into the situation where she will be taken advantage of in order to get what she wants, but it's still something where I prefer the later part of the second story where she is the one initiating the contact and not the one letting herself he used in order to get what she wants. But then, she is still a fairly fun character, and all the females do seem to be competent and able to get what they want. It's just that I would have preferred if certain parts of the stories were a little different.

All in all, though, this is a very good volume in terms of art and story. The setting is interesting if not very developed, and is definitely supposed to be a fantasy world as opposed to a past Earth. So that is fun, and part of me is a sucker for fantasy and part of me is more willing to forgive things if they have some sort of justification in the world they occur in. But the art alone would be worth it for this volume. Unfortunately the second volume of this series is not widely available (read expensive), so people wanting to pursue it forward might be better suited to just skip to volumes 3 and on, which seem easier to find. Otherwise, it was a good story and some great art, and definitely enough to earn an 8/10.
