Hot On His Heels by Margo Bond Collins is book number sixteen in the What Happens in Vegas series. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by Entangled Publishing, NetGalley, and by the author.

Sadie Quinn is on a mission. She wants to meet and interview the famous and reclusive romance book editor, Jocelyn Dellarivier. She is working on a book and if she could just get that interview for the final chapter, it would guarantee her tenure at her job as a professor. What she didn’t plan on was the oh so sexy assistant to a well liked publisher.

sexy woman in glasses:

Jake Blaine noticed Sadie right away. She tried to hide underneath all those frumpy clothes but he could see ‘it.’ She drew him to her just by being in the same room. But Jake has a secret, one he has to keep hidden at all costs. If that means staying away from the tiny little sexy woman, that’s what he will do.

Belagio fountains

While at the Romance Writer’s Convention in Las Vegas, Sadie continues to try to track down the infamous Jocelyn but instead keeps running in to Jake. Then, everything changed when Sadie was chosen for a date with a handsome cover model. But who showed up at her door? Who do you think it was?

“For once, she would do what she wanted rather that playing it safe. And right now, she wanted to go with Jake, no matter where he wanted to take her.”

This was a short, cute read. Sadie was adorable with her shyness and blushing. But Jake saw beneath all that. Jake has spent his adult life trying to do what his family needs him to do. But what about what he needs? Together they give each other the confidence to come out of the shadows. If you enjoy quotes from famous works, you’ll love this book. I loved the way Margo worked them in throughout. I really enjoyed this and it left me with a smile on my face.

I wanted to like this. I wanted to like Jake and Sadie. Unfortunately, you do not always get what you want.

The pacing was awful, and the book was balanced as this odd juxtaposition of feeling sorry for her and then for him. At least, I think you were supposed to. I found both of them whiny, annoying, and immature. So, really, perfect for one another. He is 30, but afraid his career will impact his brother, so keeping what he does a secret...she is looking to be a tenured professor, yet she walks around like a timid mouse...because she can speak in front of people, and in class, just not one on one...which, ok...fine...but this does not translate to being unable to say "excuse me" when passing by someone.

The book was slow to get going, 50% in before they even spend any real time together, and I never bought into the attraction between the 2 of them. I probably have a lot more to say on the reasons that this did not work for me, but to be honest from 1% to 100% there was nothing that appealed or drew me in. At all.

-There’s a bunch of tried and true tropes, like a secret identity, ugly duckling turns into swan, etc. It’s cute.
-Like the quotes that are peppered throughout. It helped with giving Sadie’s personality some definition, and was the most memorable aspect of the story.
-Small inconsistencies, like the color of her eyes (described as blue initially, then turned to brown) took me out of the moment.
-They felt like B characters in an A story and not quite carrying it.
-Not bad, but I’d hoped for more in terms of character development.

description
It’s a light, quick, cute read, but fairly standard. I think I’ll remember the setup more than the actual characters, and that’s just ok for me.

I love these "What Happens in Vegas" books! They're fun, short stories that show how crazy us romance readers can get. Hot On His Heels was no exception.

Jake edits erotica romance novels under a penn name because he doesn't want to hurt his brothers political career. Sadie is a literature professor trying to finish her book to attain tenure by interviewing the elusive editor Jocelyn Dellarivier, aka Jake. While Sadie is frantically stalking Jocelyn via her tweets at the romance convention in Vegas, she keeps bumping into hunky Jake, posing as a PA. Every bump along the way, these two gets ensnared into each other more and more. If Jake has a chance at something more with Sadie, he's going to have to risk exposing his identity as the true editor.

This was a fun and quirky short story. I love Jakes character, Sadies as well. I do wish her insecurities wasn't constantly brought forward in the book but the ending definately made up for it.

I loved the premise of this story and was quite eager to read it after getting approved.

Sadie and Jake are both interesting people. They both have a thing about being seen and it was amusing to see them figure things out between them. Sadie's BFF, Amelia, was one of the best parts.

Yes it's a little predictable, but it's fun and fluffy. I would have liked to gotten an entire book instead of a novella, but overall it was a cute, quick read.

There’s a reason why I come back to the What Happens in Vegas series time and time again – they are fun, really good stories.

Jake has very good reasons, at least to him they are, for hiding his identity as an erotic book editor and at times, cover model. So maybe the world wouldn’t end if the general public found out that he has a politician for a brother or the other way around in Jake’s mind… but it certainly feels like something he needs to keep on the down low. Now he has one lovely and determined woman tracking down his alter persona to get an interview, one he has no intention of granting ever. Hiding in plain sight has certainly become quite sexy.

Sadie needs this interview, even desperately needs it if she’s honest with herself. She’s got to get published in order to get tenure, and to finish she needs to interview Jocelyn. Except she keeps running into this handsome, and yes sexy, guy instead. What is his deal? A short interview with his boss, really just a few minutes… but the editor is as elusive as Elvis, and at least he gets more sighting in Vegas.

I had a blast with this story. It’s funny, charming, quirky and just a bit of a lesson to us all to simply be true to yourself. There was one moment during a reveal that I thought Sadie would do something totally wrong, completely wrong. And although it might have been a natural thought when she learned that… still it changed, just a bit, how I viewed Sadie that she would even think of doing that. (Totally on me, and my reactions to the characters.) You’ll know when you come to that part of the book. Overall, I had fun and was completely entertained by Jake and Sadie’s romance. They go through a lot to be together and they grow even more along the way which was refreshing to watch happen.

Looking for a fun, sexy and entertaining book? Go grab Hot On His Heels, you’ll have a good time in Vegas.

1.5 stars. Boy oh boy am I disappointed about this book. The description for the book was definitely what drew me in, but it was honestly so difficult for me to finish the book. Was the book badly written? Not exactly. For me, it was more that I didn't really connect with the characters.

Sadie is a professor and she attends a romance convention looking for an editor, Jocelyn Dellarivier - too bad the editor she's looking for is none other than Jake Blaine, the man whose lap she fell into. Truthfully, I was not a fan of Sadie at all... she was boring and pretty annoying. I don't exactly knwo what Jake saw in her.

Jake Blaine is Jocelyn D. (well his alter ego is) as well as Ian Blaine's twin brother (Ian Blaine is a politician). Ian is the reason Jake hides his identity as Jocelyn - because it would ruin Ian's campaign if the world were to find out that Jake edited erotica. I liked Jake more than Sadie, he was more of a developed character and I didn't roll my eyes when it was his point of view in the book. He lived behind his brother's shadow and he didn't even notice it until Sadie came along. He was a good character, but not book boyfriend material.

I was not a big fan of this book. It took me a while to finish this book, even with the story being so short. The characters in this book were not for me.

This is another story in the What Happens in Vegas series - and like the others I’ve read, this is a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed. In this case the editor extraordinaire being sought works under the alias of Jocelyn Dellarivier but is, in reality, Jake Blaine, ex cover model and twin brother of an aspiring politician. So far Jake has managed to keep his alter ego totally separate, so much so that even most people he works with don’t realise the editor who helps them create such steamy erotica romances is actually a handsome hunk in his own right. Now, however, his identity is in danger of being discovered by the very determined academic professor, Sadie Quinn, who wishes to meet and interview ‘Jocelyn’ to complete she is writing to guarantee her tenure as professor. With Jake’s boss playing matchmaker and rigging a competition to ensure Jake goes on a date with Sadie will they be able to resist their attraction? Will Jake be able to keep his secret - and if not, what will Sadie’s reaction be?

The citing of quotes throughout the story with other characters endeavouring to identify their source, add to the story and, in many instances, to the humour. A mix of mystery, humour and romance, this is a great read and one that I have no hesitation in highly recommending. These stories are really tempting me to go to one of these conventions myself to check out some of the larger than life characters involved!

Many thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for gifting me an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I went into this one expecting a light, fluffy and fun afternoon read, and that is exactly what I got. Hot on His Heels was sweetly charming, a quick and easy book that held my attention from the first page, and ended up being a one-sitting read for me.

I really enjoyed the time I spent with Sadie and Jake. It made me smile and laugh, and although it could be considered, at times, a little cliché or insta-lovey (*gasp* nooooooo!), it remained a good read throughout. The flow and pacing was steady, the characters likeable and lovable (*doffs hat to Amelia, Sadie’s entertaining best friend*), and the chemistry between shy Sadie and gorgeous Jake was palpable and believable.

Which made their love story the perfect kind of story to get lost in for a little while. I do wish there was a little more to it at the end—it feels just a smidge incomplete, like Jake and Sadie have more to tell us—but on the whole, there is nothing about this book that wasn’t fun, amusing or sexy.

Which is what I hoped for as I cracked open my first Margo Bond Collins read, and what I will hope for when I read more of her work in the future. Because I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future. ~ Beth, 4 stars

I loved this sweet romantic story, and I loved both Sadie and Jake, amazing characters. Book is very well written, it is fun and exciting summer read, full of laugh-out-loud moments and some swoon worthy romantic encounters.

Sadie is in search of a romance editor. Jocelyn is the best editor in the industry but she is a recluse. In fact no one has seen her, no one knows what she looks like but Sadie is determined to find her no matter what. Because Sadie's future depends on getting an interview with Jocelyn. Therefore, here she is... attending the romance readers' convention in Vegas...

So far all she has managed to do is... keep running into sexy Jake. He knows the editor she sought but refuses to help her. She isn't going to give up though, one way or another she will will get that interview... What she didn't count on was falling for Jake's charms. No matter, after all this is Vega and what happens in Vegas stays there (hopefully).

Jake can't get Sadie out of his head. The woman can ruin his life but he is willing to take a chance. May be things will turn out exactly the way he wants... with his secret safe and his heart unbroken...

Sadie Quinn is an English professor who has written a book on romance novels and for the last year she has been trying to get an interview with the top editor for her last chapter. Now she has made her way to Las Vegas for the big romance novel convention to find Jocelyn Dellarivier, but every time she feels like she is getting somewhere she runs into Jake Blaine. She finds him to be very attractive but not the person she is looking for. Jake finds himself tongue tied every time he crosses path with an attractive women who he finds out is there for the convention but also is an English professor and happens to be from the state his twin brother is running for office. When she asks him she finds out that they are twins. Still being placed together they end up going on a date and that is when each one must decide what to do as the conference is closing. There is more to this story but I don’t want to give it away, but it is a quick read. I just found this story to be caught off in certain places. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 3 stars. Hot on His Heels is the 16 book in the What Happens in Vegas series by Margo Bond Collins. Like many in the series it’s light, cute, and quick. I really enjoyed it and it was a sweet novella that hit my romantic heart. The storyline was beyond interesting because Sadie is after an editor that she believes is a woman but is really a man. Jake uses the alter ego Jocelyn as a way to protect his family from possible back lash because of his profession. Jake is attracted to shy Sadie and admires her persistence in finding Jocelyn but won’t tell her the truth no matter how much he wants to. In my opinion Hot on His Heels was a 4 star read. I liked it so if you’re looking to a cute light read this book is perfect!

A sweet Rom Com with sharp dialogue, wonderfully real characters and of course a HEA. With all the other stories of angst, internal struggle, and even intrigue out there, somethings the best reads are the simplest and most fun.

Both Jake and Sadie are darling together and I truly enjoyed watching them finally coming together...with him helping her realize just what a beautiful woman she is. The ending simply made my heart sigh. I enjoyed this new to me author's writing so very much and look forward to reading more of her stories.

This is a fun, sexy read and I loved it. Sadie Quinn is a too cute academic desperate to find the elusive erotica editor Jocelyn Dellarivier. She needs to interview Jocelyn for the book she's hoping to have published and gain her tenure in her professorial position. No matter what Sadie does, the only person she seems to be able to find the amazingly gorgeous assistant Jake Blaine. Not that she's complaining, really, but he can't help her the way Jocelyn could. Or could he?? He does seem to know a lot about what's going on. What exactly are his secrets??

If your looking for a light easy read I would recommend this one.

Book provided by the publisher

While a quick read at only one hundred and nine pages the ending was too abrupt and there wasn't the closure I was looking for.  The epilogue gave a hint of what's to come but it should have gone further.  Hot on His Heels is the sixteenth book of the WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS SERIES that is penned by different authors but this being the first book I've read in the series I'm not sure how connected the stories are.

A cute premise that the story takes place at a romance readers' convention in Las Vegas which is one of my favorite places to vacation.  I also hope someday to attend a conference when some of my favorite authors are on the schedule.  It was interesting that different romance tropes were mentioned throughout.

Sadie has an agenda for being in attendance with a friend of hers - to meet an elusive romance editor who's always stays behind the scenes and doesn't want her identity known. Sadie wants to interview her for a book she's writing for academia in hopes of receiving tenure as a professor at the college she teaches literature at.  She keeps running into Jake instead who has a few secrets of his own.  When she and Jake have a conversation there's definite interest on Jake's part towards Sadie but he can't pinpoint why.  Sadie isn't sure why there's an attraction either but is willing to go with it after discussions with her friend and since she wins a dating contest while there.   When they do connect there are fireworks but with secrets revealed things don't look too promising for them.

There are coworkers and friends and discussions of Jake's siblings, events, stalking, a mystery to be solved, contests, cover models, anger, frustration, tears, secrets revealed, damaging information, laughter, happiness and lots of sizzle and loving.  There wasn't the plot development or the depth of characters that I like to see in a book.  I did like the cover with the headless people since it goes along with the story.

Bond Collins is a new to me author and I will give some of her other contemporary romances a try and hope for better closure.  She also writes paranormal romances, urban fantasy and paranormal mysteries none of which are my preferred genre.

Favorite Quote: My worry has nothing to do with spending the evening trying to talk to a male romance-novel cover model.  Though if I have to talk to a beautiful man, I would kind of rather spend the time with Jake - even if he does drive me insane.

Super short audiobook part of series written by different authors. This is the only one I have listened to and it was nothing that would stand out, just cute, fluffy insta romance as it all takes place in a few days.
Sadie a college professor needs to interview a top woman editor or erotic books for final chapter of her book that will guarantee her tenure at her job as a professor. She searches high and low and just can't find this woman. The reason is "the woman editor" is really a man! Hi jinx ensue and they meet and are really attracted to each other but she still doesn't know his secret identity.
Not sure if the whole series is like this but was a short, cute story.

This is a fun, entertaining, quick read. Jake and Sadie are interesting, relatable, complex, intriguing, entertaining characters. I enjoyed the path their romance took to get to their HEA. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story. This story is easy to read and get into.

I enjoyed the audio version of this book and the narrator.

My Thoughts Hot on His Heels is the 16th book in the What Happens in Vegas series by Margo Bond Collins. Hot on His Heels is an adult contemporary romance from the entangled Lovestruck line. And I have to say, the two main characters Sadie and Jake, did seem very lovestruck throughout the story. But unfortunately, I also have to say that I didn't love Hot on His Heels as much as I wanted to. It is a quick read, and I can see a lot of people really enjoying the spicy-sweetness of the story but it didn't mesh with me and my personality.

Hot on His Heels is an interesting concept. Jake is a very famous romance editor, but because his brother is an ultra conservative politician and doesn't want to smear his public image Jake has decided to hide behind a female persona. Sadie is a literature professor that is beautiful but has no idea and who is working on an academic piece that she thinks is bound to get a whole new generation to love an accept romance and erotica as a valid literary genre. (I was actually pretty interested in her thesis, but we don't get to delve too deep into that. But it seems like a cool idea.) Anyways Sadie is convinced that if she can get an interview with her favorite editor, her writing will be complete. Insert Jake as said female editor, and you get the idea. Could be a very cute concept. But it fell apart pretty immediately for me.

Jake is instantly taken with Sadie, but I never really felt his connection deep down. Especially since he found out that she was person harassing him for so long. But regardless, that wasn't my main issue with the story. I thought Sadie and Jake were cute together, but the characters and the writing were too political for my tastes. First you have the ultra conservative big bad wolf of a brother that made Jake believe (self imposed belief, I might add) that he had to hide everything about himself. The there were anti-men comments hidden behind a veil of feminism. (This is the one that really bugs me. Having feminist beliefs and being a feminist does not mean that you are anti-man, and you have to use the word man as an insult. But I digress.) I felt like the characters beliefs and the writing were very polarizing, and to be honest they rubbed me the wrong way. I understand that will not be the case with all readers, and like I stated earlier, I think many readers will enjoy Sadie and Jake's story. Sadly, I am not one of them. Hot on His Heels didn't work for me.

Sadie is determined to meet Jocelyn Dellarivier, the elusive editor, as she wants an interview to finish her academic book to achieve tenure, yet the editor hasn't answered any communication attempts on her part. When she discovers Jocelyn is attending a conference, thank you Twitter, she and her best friend, Amelia, are on their way to apprehend, err meet her. ;-) As Sadie and Amelia, the more personable easygoing of the two, are scouring the building for their prey LOL, Sadie can't help but be stunned speechless upon seeing a gorgeous man and literally landing in his lap, but she also believes he is way out of her league and goes on about her mission.

Jake Blaine lost all train of thought upon finding the woman with the beautiful eyes landing in his lap, thank you Amelia for that friendly shove. When he discovers they're looking for him, well his alter ego, he knows he needs to keep his true identity a secret. He worries that his job as an erotica editor could damage his brother, Ian's, political campaign. So he's attending the conference, thanks to the insistence of Kamille, his boss and Intertwined publisher.

For Sadie, she can't stop wondering why he looks familiar and for Jake, when he learns Sadie's name, he tries to remember where he's heard it before. But her career as a literature professor aside, she isn't as outgoing as she portrays because she fears rejection, fears that she's unnoticeable and no one will take the time to see behind the facade she shows everyone. Jake, unbelievably curious about Sadie, knows he needs to stay away from her because he doesn't want to mess up and let his family down, as he's done once before, but there's just something about her.

One of my favorite lines from the book and it's still making me laugh - "I'm really glad you're not the woman I thought you were." - Sadie

How will Jake handle it when his boss, Kamille, seems to be on her own mission to have him talk to Sadie, bending situations to suit her purpose of helping Jake? Will he do it to garner publicity for his employer? Or because he can't stay away from Sadie? Will Jake finally realize that he needs to live for himself, instead of always wondering how his actions will impact Ian, his twin? Can Sadie accomplish her goal of finishing her book? How will their attraction to each other impact the situation? As they get to know each other, will Jake be able to continue keeping the truth from Sadie? Will Sadie feel betrayed when she finds out? Will Jake take the plunge and reveal Jocelyn's true identity? Will these two work through everything and take a chance at a future together?

3.5 stars standalone, fast paced, insta-love romance that is a quick simple read!

Hot On His Heels was my first book by Margo Bond Collins and overall I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t say it wowed me but if I was looking for a light hearted, relatively short story to read in a couple of hours, I would recommend this book and possibly check out more work by this author. There was enough of a plot to this insta-love romance but I felt I wanted a little more development to the plot. Like I say, it’s not a bad read and I would recommend it, I just wasn’t overly wowed by the storyline.

The two main characters, Sadie and Jake, have a clear connection when one quite literally falls into the other when Sadie is hunting for a elusive erotica editor. They are both characters who struggle a little to accept themselves fully for who they truly are but end up being able to see the true depths of each other, surpassing just surface appearances, even if one sees what truly lies beneath the other by accident. Sadie is a shy, quiet, plain looking woman who is quite introvert in the fact she struggles with one-on-one interactions (except with her best friend Amelia and can also find the confidence when standing in front of group when lecturing). Jake, on the other hand, is a former model who keeps his alter-ego identity on the down low, living in the shadows of fear of the impact on his twin brother after aprevious incident. As the book evolves and the characters grow closer, both starts having to reassess who they truly are and what really matters to them.

While the plot of the book was a little bit predictable, it was still well written, fairly light hearted, easy to read and the enjoyable kind of book that will put a smile on your face after the epilogue and HEA. The story is fast paced, taking place over only four days, but the dual points of views helped strengthen this story. While you do have to be open to elements of ‘insta-love’, given the short time frame of the relationship between Sadie and Jake, the development of their relationship felt natural on both sides, given the scenarios they faced. One thing I really liked about this book though was the use of literature quotes to express feelings; very clever idea.

Overall, this was a pleasant sweet read and I would recommend this book as a kind of easy book to read on a lazy day that can be read in one sitting, taking no more than a couple of hours at most but leaves you with that warm fuzzy sort of feeling with the HEA.

I'm a fan of the mistaken identity trope. Sign me up! Sadie is a college professor who is writing a book on feminism in romance. She is trying to score an interview with one of the top editors and been unsuccessful thus far. She keeps running into this hot guy, Jake. Jake, unbeknownst to her, is the person she is looking for.
Let me say, the title is perfect for this book. I liked the two supporting characters, Amelia and Kamille, more than Sadie and Jake. Amelia and Kamille were likable, funny, and supportive.
Jake annoyed me a handful of times. He's got a Reason for his pen name. Luckily, he "sees the light," and changes. There were a handful of times his thoughts didn't jive for me (keep in mind his chosen profession as an editor of erotic romance novels in which women are the primary readership). The first time was at Bingo, when he was spinning a roller cage of entries for the big prize of a date with a cover model. He thought, "Bunch of desperate women out there." Huh?! Granted, right after, he acknowledged (mentally) they helped with bills. He edits romance, does a good job at it, but thinks the women who read it are desperate. That's so nice (Said with a sarcastic tone)! The second time was when he was a cover model. He thought it was "...demeaning to him." Again, bills are paid and he chose to do that.
Then, there is Sadie. For someone who was a college professor, she was very unsure of herself. I also thought at times she was a bit of a stalker (following picture on twitter feed to figure out where said picture was taken to find that person). I didn't like her first thought after discovering Jocelyn's true identity. (I thought, you bitch!). What happened after was so quick, if you blinked, you missed it. The reveal and wrap-up happened a little to quickly.
Do I believe that Sadie and Jake were in love? No. Lust? Oh hell yes.
I loved the literary quotes throughout the book. They were worked in so beautifully.

I thought that this was a cute story that all of us that have been to a signing could appreciate. I loved the humor that Margo Bond Collins added into the story, it kept things flowing and interesting. There were some points that I got mad at both the characters for not coming out with the truth, but I got over it quickly and it made for a great story!

Sadie is attending a Romance Readers' Convention in hopes of getting to interview Jocelyn Dellarivier. Sadie has pretty much stalked Jocelyn in order to be able to get the chance to interview her at the convention, but when she is almost to her or who she thinks is her, Jake always seems to get in the way. Sadie is a follower of Jocelyn on Twitter and knows tons about her.

Jake is attending the convention as a reader but little does Sadie know, he is who she is looking for all along. Jake is actually one of the models that is on the book covers but has made the photographers promise not to put his face on the books in order to keep his identity safe. He does not want people to know that it is him just yet.

Things heat up between Jack and Sadie when she wins a contest to go on a date with him. Jack is upset with his boss for even setting up the contest but when he find out who wind the date, he thinks that Sadie is going to blow his cover. Well, they actually blow the plans that were made for them and go somewhere other than what was planned and have a nice time together. What Sadie finds out on Jacks phone by accident is what leads to them having issues. I don't want to give it away, but you need to read this one for yourself.

I can't wait to see what is next for Margo Bond Collins. Great quick read!

3.5 Stars!

Hot On His Heels by Margo Bond Collins is a cute and fun novella. It is a face-paced story that I read easily in one sitting. The author does a nice job of defining the characters and each one is quite interesting and original. The heroine, college professor Sadie Quinn, is especially likable, and her genuineness kept me turning the pages.

Sadie is on the cusp of achieving tenure, and in order to do so, she needs is a clincher for her expanded dissertation. So she is attending a romance convention with her best friend Amelia, in hopes of snagging an exclusive interview with reclusive erotica book editor Jocelyn Dellarivier. Let the search begin!

Jake Blaine is a former book cover model that keeps popping in at many of the sessions that Sadie is attending. In fact, they bump into each other on more than one occasion, and the heat between them is off the charts. Jake is gorgeous and his many secrets not only bring him and Sadie together, they also have the potential to destroy a blossoming relationship.

I enjoyed this author's interpretation of Cinderella, although it fell a little flat for me at times. Sadie is a wonderful character and I loved how she evolved from a wallflower into a rose. Her determination and spunkiness kept me entertained. Jake is a good guy and his skills both in and out of the bedroom are truly hot and endearing. The two of them together make a unique couple and they challenge each other without even knowing it. Overall, this is a solid romance.

Sadie and her best friend, Amelia, are on a mission. Sadie is in need of one final important interview from romance editor, Jocelyn Dellarivier, for her first academic book. She's hoping with its completion, she will earn her tenure. The only problem is every time she follows her tweets at the Romance convention, she keeps running into a distraction.
That distraction is Jake Blaine. She's not the only one on a mission. He's determined to make sure the lovely, brunette professor doesn't find out that he's really the editor that she is looking for. Can he resist the growing the attraction and maintain his secret identity?
I started and finished this book in one day. I enjoyed reading this one immensely! Every time I went to do something else, I was soon finding myself stopping so that I could continue reading. I enjoyed the banter that occurred between the characters. I loved how Sadie was constantly quoting poetry phrases that seemed to fit in with whatever situation she found herself in. I also liked that her busty blonde friend defies the stereotype of those with that hair color. The plot was somewhat predictable, but when in need of a lighthearted, fun read this certainly fits the bill.

Best friends Sadie and Amelia are at a Vegas romance publishing conference, trying to find an elusive editor named Jocelyn Dellarivier whom Sadie wants to interview. Her emails to her have been ignored all year. Her tenure at the college where she teaches depends on her book having something extra special, and interviewing this editor could be invaluable to her in that pursuit. However, the editor she is seeking is actually a very sexy man named Jake Blaine who is there to find new talent for the publishing company and doesn’t want to be identified and exposed. But Sadie won’t give up and talks to the publisher about how her book is trying to validate romance novels as “worthy of feminist study within the academic community.” It could be great publicity for them, she said! Thus starts her relentless search for the mysterious editor, always one small step behind.

I loved this story so much! It was adorable and laugh-out-loud funny. The friendship between Sadie and Amelia is what we all long for; there to support each other always. And the love story evolving between two very special people warmed my heart. Well done! I eagerly look forward to reading many more of this author’s wonderful books! This is exactly what I needed.

I’ve read almost all of the What Happens in Vegas series books and have really enjoyed the quirkiness of the characters and the really fun setting. The romance convention has been hilarious at times, including in Hot on His Heels. In this book, we have super introverted Sadie who is a professor hoping to catch an editor that she wants to interview for a scholarly book that she’s writing. It was fun to watch Sadie completely out of her element, especially since she was often led around by her best friend Amelia who definitely isn’t shy. For a lot of the book, Sadie and Amelia together were better than the scenes with Sadie and her love interest Jake.

It took a while for me to see any connection or chemistry between Jake and Sadie. I liked them both as characters, but it took a lot for me to like them as a couple. Even the love scene in this book, while hot, didn’t work for me as much as I’d hoped cause I still wasn’t sold on them together. Overall this was a cute story and I loved how they both grew and accepted truths about themselves with the help of each other.

Margo Bond Collins writes a cute, typical contemporary romance from the viewpoint of Sadie Quinn and Jake Blaine, two people at a romance writer's convention in Las Vegas. They are both there for very different reasons. To secure her tenure, Sadie is there to interview the very popular erotic writer Jocelyn Dellarivier Jake is the assistant to a publisher and cover model of some sexy books. But the secret very few know is... HE'S Jocelyn Dellarivier and he's desperate to keep his secret from the press, i.e. one unfashionable Sadie Quinn. They keep running into each other and when Sadie wins a contest, she finds Jake is her prize.
These two get to know one another and the truth eventually comes out into the light. Sadie and Jake are forced to admit their faults and make difficult decisions in order to stay together. Being in the public light is not easy, but this man and woman give each other the confidence to come into themselves and tell the world that love is best story ever told.

Sadie is on a mission when she gets to Vegas but it’s going to be harder than it seems. She follows every single tweet and she knows Jocelyn is somewhere in this convention but when she thinks she is near no sign of her. But there is a sign of another man that makes her feel things but when she runs into him for a second time she can’t believe who she’s with. Jake is a twin and he knows that his alter ego is not able to be found out. He already made one mistake when he was a book cover model but never again. He knows what he needs to do but when he finally remembers why Sadie’s name seems so familiar he knows he is in trouble. His boss is going to make it very hard for him to stay away from Sadie and he knows that she is getting close to figuring out his secret.

Hot on His Heels was both interesting and sweet. There was only one problem that I had and that was that I couldn’t connect with the characters. I don’t know if it was because of Sadie and how unsure she was of herself. I knew they had chemistry but something else was missing. But no matter what it was a quick interesting story.
