Mary Jane has taken a job as a go-go dancer. But Peter soon discovers that the club MJ works for is actually a front for a criminal enterprise, where a man named Dr. Winkler brainwashes his victims!
Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

Who is the behind this sinister plan hiding behind such grooviness? When is the last time you even heard the word groovy? Take a time trip back to April of 1968!
A lot happens here...as Peter tries to reconcile his disappearance/memory loss to May and his friends Gwen is VERY happy to see Peter💋 Go Go Dancer MJ gets involved in a very shady smile and snap scheme at her new club.
Peter catches up with May in the hospital then gets friendly with Gwen's father the retired police Captain Stacy. MJ gets a job dancing at a club but unfortunately for her the Brainwasher is running the place and she gets dragged into his scheme of brainwashing poor Captain Stacy.
Its nice that after all of the negativity thrown Peter's way that he has time to reconcile and catch up with the gang.
NB. Top of page 4 Aunt May's dialogue is in a thought bubble but it must have been a very loud thought as the doctor responds!
This issue is mainly a conclusion to the amnesia plot with a quite decent explanation of Peter whereabouts to his environment and police and a build up for the next story.
The best part is the character development that takes place throughout the issue, demonstrating why Spider-man series are so great, even when there's no super-villain or an interesting scheme from a bad guy. I think that those years, only Fantastic Four are close to Spider-man rich supporting cast.
Captain Stacy is a great addition and Gwen is evolving to a richer character than the unidimensional and crazy Mary Jane.
I like Don Heck, but i prefer when John Romita draws alone the series. Ever Since Romita is only in charge of the layouts and Don Heck on finishing the drawing, the artwork especially on faces has lost quality.
Amazing Spider-Man #59 is a fun, offbeat issue that blends Peter’s personal life with a bizarre yet entertaining villain plot. Mary Jane becoming a go-go dancer adds a splash of ’60s flair, but things take a dark turn when it’s revealed that the club is actually a front for a brainwashing scheme led by the mysterious Dr. Winkler.
The highlight of this issue is Peter reconnecting with his friends and even forming a bond with Captain Stacy, adding a nice moment of positivity to his usually chaotic life. Of course, this peace doesn’t last long—Captain Stacy becomes one of Dr. Winkler’s unfortunate victims, setting up a new conflict for Spidey to tackle.
