Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
Spidey must face the full fury of The Lizard with one arm in a sling! Great fight that is wonderfully rendered by John Romita (JR). Note for collectors: on first panel of page #19 Stan Lee (SL) presents "Another mighty marvel first! Knowing how titanically talented our riotous readers are we're leaving this panel for you to write your own dialogue! If you can get someone to play hearts and flowers softly in the background, it won't do a bit of harm, either!" The speech 'balloons' are left empty - over the years I have seen beautiful copies of this book with them filled in - if you are going to buy this book check this out!
It's the Spidey vs Lizard rematch and he's in for a Rocky Balboa level fight after the first left the web crawler with the use of only one arm (seriously in Rocky V they're like "you'll never fight again" and 16 years later he's like "hold my beer" and goes for it, ah sorry this is Spider-Man comics not a Sly Stallone retrospective*).
The whole Jekyll & Hyde multiple personas of The Lizard are played up here as the green skinned villain can't read Connor's scientific formula so goes off hunting for Curt Connors to decipher it. I spoke too soon when I said Romita mustn't be comfortable with redesigning Ditko's characters in ASM #44 as here The Lizard's face definitely looks more elongated now and resembles The Lizard we are now used to in multiple panels.
For some reason it tickled me seeing that Parker had painted the whole of his motorbike red, handle bars, exhaust and all!
"He's just the least little bit square -- but, outside of that, he really turns me on! I'll bet he'd be a real swinger if he'd let himself go!" some MJ's dialogue now has a... slightly different... meaning to it in 2021....
*reading the first two pages of ASM #45 can be read whilst listening to Eye of Tiger for an improved reading experience.
Spider-Man masih terus memburu the Lizard, meskipun tangan kirinya masih dibalut perban akibat cedera di duel sebelumnya. The lizard ternyata sedang menuju tempat di mana para reptil berada sehingga ia bisa mendirikan kerajaan reptil dan berencana membinasakan manusia. Spider-Man yang akhirnya bertemu dengannya, tanpa ragu langsung menghajarnya sampai the Lizard kembali sadar menjadi Dr. Connors.
Di sisi lain, setelah berhasil menaklukan the Lizard, Peter Parker malah menjadi dilema karena keputusannya menjadi Spider-Man, seringkali mengorbankan kepentingan-kepentingan pribadinya sebagai manusia biasa.
Walaupun sebelah tangannya cedera, Spider-Man tetap bisa mengalahkan Lizard.
A good issue, with the conclusion of the Lizard arc. Harry appears a couple times, even mentioning that his father has a job opportunity for Peter. Now THAT is interesting. I can’t wait to see Norman again.
The conclusion of the latest battle between Spider-Man and The Lizard, this is a lot of fun when our web-slinger is taunting his enemy to get him right where he wants him, but a bit less fun when Parker does his usual mopey routine for a page or two near the end of the issue.
