Destiny will have to wait. He’s got a fight to win.

He woke up not knowing his name, though it probably isn’t the worst thing that’s ever happened to him. Maybe. But now, Oblivion must fight for his life in the Pit of Lac’uus, where those with vices come to play.

Sure he’s more or less a slave, but there’s no denying the intoxicating adrenaline of the fights, and the victor’s spoils are alluring. He might have even been content with his new lot in life if he didn’t have a feeling there was something important he should know.

When a human from Earth joins the concubine ranks and acts as if she knows him, responding with soft gasps to his touch, he realizes there’s more to the things he doesn’t remember. But he knows if they do share an intimate history, it’s one he has certainly betrayed with his sins.

However, Oblivion does what he must to survive, right up until the day his memories come smashing back, and the sinner must face his past.

Audiobook review. I'm absolutely enjoying the humor this series brings. I found myself laughing out loud a few times while listening to this at work. There may or may not have been a few weird looks aimed in my direction lol. The weaving of the story is intricate and this world the author has created is absolutely stunning in detail. Whether it is the description of a being or the effects of an environmental factor, the imagery is excellent. The characters are fleshed out well with complexities, flaws, and depth. The plot is very riveting. It lends a mysterious air that keeps you guessing. There is the introduction of Oblivion in this book, which definitely made things more interesting. Emma and Annabelle continue to be at odds, which exudes comedic value. The intimate moments are very sexy. The writing was strong with good pacing. It ends in another cliffy but I am enjoying this series and will definitely see it through to completion with pleasure. Safety: It's hard to cover this section without giving too much away but I will do my best and answer individual questions in personal message if you need more info. There is cheating to a degree. However, there are some very special circumstances, unique to this story, that took the steam out of any anger I might've had regarding this fact. If you decide to read this, I feel compelled to say that things are not what they seem. If the initial "cheating" turns you off... hang in there. Things will become clearer in time and you'd be missing out on a great story. There is no rape, but Emma was made to do things she did not want to do.

Interesting twist, I like the unpredictability. Unfortunately, the cheating with the clone/brother is too icky for me. Maybe the hero CAN forgive her...but she had his brother's mouth on her pussy -that's gro000ss! If only she'd done it with JD, I wouldn't have to quit this series.

description

This has been such a fun series, and Eve Langlais totally surprised me with this one. The Space Gypsy Chronicles features engaging and unique characters (mostly aliens), a flirty hero and a damsel of a heroine. How could this not be fun!?! This is a continuing story arc so I do not recommend reading these books out of order, you want to start at the beginning with Pirate.

To recap, Rafe Abaddon is a Romani gypsy prince traveling the galaxies to avoid his family. In the last book, Rafe had to make a hasty departure from Earth and took his curvy UPS driver with him. They set off through the Milky Way and black holes to lands unknown where Emma had eye-opening encounters with beings that were beyond her imagination. Rafe is somewhat of a space pirate and there are bounties out on his head so there was lots of action and fighting to balance out the romance. Pirate ended on a cliffhanger, so I was glad to get this next installment so soon.

In Sinner, our hero has awoken with no memory of his name, recent past, or how he came to be in a dank cell on some remote moon. But it seems that he will now be pit fighting for the foreseeable future, and it doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world. This Romani doesn't mind a fight in the least, particularly when to the winner go the spoils... in the form of concubines! Even though our hero is now going by Oblivion in the light of his amnesia, we got the same oversexed and playful personality that we loved in Pirate.

Emma was left alone on Rafe's ship, ran by the uber-snarky artificial intelligence computer system, Annabelle. Emma and Annabelle are still squabbling, and the AI is becoming more and more sentient it seems. At some point with Rafe not returning, the two will have to work together, won't they? The contempt between human and computer was unrelenting, and Emma still doesn't think through her actions or their potential consequences. When she lands on the strange moon and discovers that Rafe doesn't remember her, Emma finds herself at the mercy of the pit maestro, A'Diabbloh, an emotion-sucking vampire alien. Emma's character crosses the line into ridiculous most times and she really can't help being a damsel. Usually this would make me hate a heroine, but I can deal with Emma even if she does cause an extreme amount of eye-rolling. Her actions are usually so ridiculous that they become comical.

I was enjoying the tenuous relationship between our H/h, and the unsurety of the situation kept me on my toes. The action was fast-paced, but fun. I did miss some of the banter between Rafe and Emma as they weren't together for the entire book, but I did enjoy hearing Oblivion needle A'Diabbloh at every turn. But HOLY TWIST! Eve Langlais totally blew me away with that one and I never saw it coming. It really made the whole book and I was excited when the reveal happened. The ending was a bit rushed and there was another cliffhanger, but it only makes me excited to see what happens in the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook that I received from the publisher, Tantor Audio.

It was adventurous and certainly left me hanging still I can't say I'm disappointed because I'm just eager for more. sooner the better. A girl can dream.
So let me give a few words about this book.
The beginning was a bit lost to me and I didn't refresh my mind/memory about the characters from the first book. So Rafe gipsy pirate, something about a clan, 13th/lost with its curse or prohecy : leading to their lost planet (lost or their planet)
Rafe=alien, bipod, human a like, who met Emma human, she was his delivery girl since Rafe and Annabelle the ship stayed on Earth a while but alien squad came dowm, and zip a zap and a bang, with Emma strapped into the ship led her becoming a crew member. After a while becoming bed lover. So that would be a summary about the previous book. And with this actual book, it was all mystery or more Huh where to begin and why. And ohhhhh I understand, that's the reason and all became too clear and tooooo much clearer, with some uncertainties search as Would Rafe forgive her and will they become stronger and in love? And Annabelle? With this one kind of a end "What the hell? and Why?"
Yup this summary is totally annoying and not useful at all. But those were the words that screamed in my head while reading this book. Adventure - Mystery - Gladiators - Faithfulness - Double Blind - Bad Purple Guy - Vampirism - Jealousy - Youth - VS - Entity - Love - Bro - Deception - BOOM - Goodbye - Motherly .... just pick your poison.

Sinner by Eve Langlais

2nd in the Space Gypsy Chrnicles. Definitely read the first before reading this one.
The adventure draws the reader in immediately.
No spoilers. A surprise in store.
Loved the arrogance of the main character. He is awesome and will be the first to tell you.
And the computer that has a thing for her commander is hysterical.

I Know You!!!

Summary : Rafe Abaddon, a gypsy space pirate was being hunted down by his uncle and his minions. So Rafe went to Earth where he met the beautiful and sassy Emma who tilted his world on its axis. Now they were both being hunted down, Rage decided to leave Earth taking Emma with him. They both were smitten with each. Rafe was on a mission they went through a wormwhole now the story continues.

Rafe woke up with no memories of how he got there and who he was. He callled himself Oblivion in Lac'uus. Lac'uus is a pit known for its vices such as gambling, sports events and auctions. He had to fight for his life.

Oblivion was sold to Jakk'ohb A'Diabbloh (owner of Lac'uus) to pay a debt. Obi made friends with Fred, the latter gave the former advice and a walk through of what would be happening during the fights.

After 23 kills Oblivion was declared winner of the first battle, he soon found out that JD would do anything to keep him in Lac'uus. What the man didn't know was that Obi would do anything to escape.

Two days and no word from Rafe, Emma and Annabelle searched for him until they found his location. Emma was taken by JD to be auctioned off to the winners.

When Emma finally met Rafe, she was devastated when she realized he didn't have any recollection for her or they time together. She made a deal with JD, one that felt it could destroy her in more ways than one.

Obi was drawn to Emma, he found her fascinating especially that temper of hers but mostly he wanted to know what she knew about him. Turns out Obi wasn't who he claimed to be (you'll have to readto find out) ;).

Emma felt bad for something that she did and Rafe felt bad as well for not telling her what he was planning. The lack of communication created such messes that they nearly torn them apart.

To see Rafe lose a friend was hard but he couldn't stop his quest. He had people depending on him, he needed to find the rest of the artifacts and no matter what he would do what it took to see things through.

SINNER is the second book in Eve Langlais' SPACE GYPSY CHRONICLES series. It was exhilarating, adventurous, humorous and emotional. This series keeps getting better and better with each book. Eve Langlais draws you in. I recommend you guys try this book out.

I didn't like the beginning at first but as the story went on, with Annabel setting Emma up, and Emma being TSTL by thinking it OK after knowing the way the spacers treated women. Well, we know that Rafe definitely needs a wake up call so if she didn't do it, he would still be content with his winnings. His total lack of knowing who she is allows the reader to forgive the total crap that he does. He is always a bit of an ass. But the twist changes everything at the end.

So we didn't get a cliffhanger of still being on the moon and enslaved but she sets the next book up in a really bad place and cliffhanger and it ticked me off. Also Annabel and not seeing how horrid she was even if she "loved" him, brought my liking of the book down greatly at the end. If the next book is the end of a trilogy, I might read it but if it goes on, I quit because I hate cliffhangers, especially ones like that. Truly a cliffhanger.

I saw a number of complaints about this, the second book in the Space Gypsy Chronicles but I Love where this is going! The story has expanded in a major way in this edition. It is hard to say how, without giving away twists but I’m really enjoying the new character and his effects on the two main characters. This is no longer *just* a romance. I feel as if we are going towards a light vs dark, good guy vs. misunderstood villain with a hefty dose of space opera humor - kinda story.
The majority of the story had a sort of mad max/ classic Star Wars sort of feel, which was fun. But then... near the end it veers back into Rafe’s story arc which had only been touched on a bit previously.
Lots of fun!

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

Oh, how to write this review without giving any spoilers? I’m not even talking about spoiling the first book, but just this book. This story was full of surprises. I thought that we would have a new hero and heroine (because most of Eve Langlais books are written with a different hero and heroine for each book), but no, this one follows our same couple as the first book, Pirate.

So the story starts out with a guy waking up in a dungeon with no memories. He decides that he is going to call himself “Oblivion”. He soon learns that he was sold to Jakk’ohb A’Diabbloh, who owns Lac’uus, which is a fight club of sorts. He must kill 100 other fighters in order to win his freedom.

Emma has been on Annabelle for several days with no word of Rafe. Annabelle, being the mischievous ship that she is, takes Emma to a place where she thinks Rafe has been seen. Emma, who isn’t at all used to dealing with the alien worlds, is quickly captured by Jakk’ohb A’Diabbloh. He wants her to be sold off to the winners for reasons I’m sure you understand. She figures her way through that system.

I don’t want to go too much more into the story, so as to avoid spoilers. I will just say that if you enjoyed book one, you will enjoy this story. While this series isn’t my favorite by Ms. Langlais, it is still a fun series. I love the world and the descriptions of everything in this series. While this series has humor in it, not as much as I’m used to from Eve Langlais. This is a series that you should start from the beginning or you will be completely lost. I’m very interested to see where it goes from here. If you like Sci-Fi and snark, I hope you will consider to giving this series a try.

“Have they managed to lock your systems down.” Because making it to his ship was only part of the problem. If the moon security detail had snared her controls, he’d never get his vessel off this blasted rock.
“They only think they have commander. I’ve made the necessary preparations so that we can leave rapidly.”
“Excellent.”
“Thank you, commander.”
His ship sounded smug at his praise and yet, her very presence served to remind. “We will be having a talk again about your behavior. Given your most recent lapse of judgement in coming here, perhaps we should introduce action-inhibitors.”
“Yes, I’ve been bad. Very bad. The commander should tie up my circuits,” purred his AI.
Rafe blinked and might have blushed if his companions had heard the sultry suggestion.

Narration
I don’t know what I can say about Chandra Skyye that I haven’t said already. She’s narrated several books for Eve Langlais. Her voice has really grown on me in the time since I first started listening to her. After seeing the names in this story (which I didn’t know the spelling as I was listening), she did a great job with the pronunciations (though, to be fair, I have no idea if they were correct or not, they sounded good).

Emma is a lucky girl......

I am a big fan of Eve's writing and have been since I read her very first book The Hunter. She's one of the only writers that can surprise me, write in multiple POVs without annoying me and her characters achieve the level of snark that makes them feel like my book soulmates. Rafe and Emma are no exception. The dynamic between the two of them is fantastic. Emma - the clueless Earth girl, Rafe - the Rhomannii prince who forgets Emma didn't grow up in the violent, misogynistic based culture that he did. I know Emma has a fated part to play in this and the Rafe didn't accidentally stumble upon her.

The twist in this book is inspired. One of Eve's best series to date. She just keeps surprising me as the years go on. I was sad when this book ended and am so glad the next comes out soon!

Like the first book (Pirate), this is mostly a fun listen. But I still don't like idiot 1 or idiot 2. Honestly, I liked the Devil aka JD aka the kingpen most out of all the characters. He was at least charming and had an interesting backstory. But it was annoying every time characters tried to argue why misogyny, sex, and nudity were superior. Their arguments made no sense and made everyone in the whole universe seem not that intellectual. It doesn't help that our champion, Miss Emma I'll-jab-my-finger-at-you-to-make-my-unhappiness-known Earthling, isn't much of a debater. I mean, her only "redeemable quality" (if you can call it that) is that she's good in bed? If I was an alien that believed humans were inferior with no practical skills other than being sold into slavery for sex, Emma wouldn't convince me otherwise either. Although, let it be known that I find it annoying that the universe has less equality than Earth, which is saying something. Shouldn't the universe by MORE equal, just to prove how primitive Earth is? I know, I know, this book is for people who find a bad boy sexy, and who have a sexual fantasy of being dominated, without actually having that in real life. Not my kink, I guess.

CONTAINTS HUGE SPOILER!!

Listened to audio narrated by Chandra Skyye. It's starts out with Oblivion not knowing who he is but that he's been traded for a debt and now must fight death matches with aliens to earn his freedom. I very recently read Pirate and I loved the fact that the author kept enough of Rafe's tone and personality that I knew who Oblivion was before the author revealed it. It was clever and really well done. Rafe left Emma for parts unknown and when he doesn't return, Emma has to conjoule the AI Annabelle to track him down. Of course Emma is still a naïve, idiot and her plan to rescue him turns into her being captured. She keeps trying to get Rafe to remember her but, wait for it......

SPOILER

It isn't RAFE! But Rafe's clone, Mikhail! When Rafe comes on the scene we get to learn more about Rafe's history and the prophecy around his life and the why of Mikhail's existence. I definitely liked this second story better than the first. This story also ends in a cliff hanger, but the next book in the series is already out so you don't have to wait to find out what happends next.

Well colored me entertained and surprised. Did not see that coming.
Rate the space pirate drugged Emma the human from Earth and left her in his ship the Annabel while he went on a super secret mission. After days of waiting for Race to return Emma decided to hint him down for answers and maybe rescue him if needed.

What she finds is a giant purple alien she nicknames devil who "assists" Emma with a male that fits her description. He looks like Race, acts like Race, has sex on the mind constantly like Race. However he doesn't rememeber who he is or who Emma is.

So stuck in the fighting pits with angered female to protect gets a little exciting.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)

The waking up on a planet that staged fighting to the death scenes that was set up for broadcast and gambling gains didn't bode well for the young man who could not remember his past.
Emma had woken up from a drugged sleep to find that Rafe had gone and hadn't returned. Of course, Annabell, the ship's computer was her snarky, uncooperative self. She did help find an asteroid that she believed Rafe may have gone, but Emma was intent on trying to save her man.
Well, this is only the start of a complex but intriguing tale.

Do I know why I’m having so much fun with this series? No. Im definitely going to keep reading this though. Annabelle is so sassy and can not stand Rafe and Emma hooking up, it’s hilarious. The whole gladiator battle competition definitely threw me for a loop but the twists that came out of this were so interesting. I can’t wait to see how the crew grows from here. Emma is definitely shaking things which I think will bring more people into the crew. Time to read the next one.

Stop leasening during 6 chapter, I can dig a lot of diferent type of relationship, but the way it was going during their captivity, nope, I don't care if we get HEA, I won't be there to see it. Didn't realise till now just What a big fan of "ništa-love" and everything that goes with it I am... So...
Not my cup of Tea...
It did say its not a romance but a space opera, so I'm out...

I actually liked this one better than the first one. It kept me guessing throughout and I was surprised at the reveal. I hated to see Annabelle go, for a ship I really liked the character. The prophecy gave me ideas about what is coming so I'm looking forward to the next book.

This book needs to come with a warning...lol but a good one. If your expecting the same same from Eve in this book well strap on in cause you arent going to get it. The HEA flew out the window as you got whisked into another universe. I would more describe Eves books as hot and smexy romance with wicked Eve humor and a generally great plot/story as well as great characters. This is a whole new ball game....its a twisty twisty sci fi with some romance...and obviously your usual evil humor and great characters. The first book in this series really threw me as its very different and i guess i was expecting a HEA and Eves usual writing style has at least one in each book in a series with the expectation of more with each progression.. BUT i couldnt put this book down, poor dishes didnt get done last night...MY BAD....it really elicited some strong emotions from me i wanted to punch the slutty girl and obi...i liked JD hes evil and twisty but at the same time hes really not...very much like a welcome to hell character... The story is just amazing.. I really cant wait for the next one. You will love it...definitely an edge of your seat book.

Rafe & Emma's story continued....
In this book you are initially disoriented trying to find footing along with oblivion who awakes with some amnesia locked in a cell. He names himself oblivion while trying to find out his true name. He knows something is up but, does what he needs to to survive. Emma launches a rescue mission with the help of Annabelle which, of course, goes awry.....in many many ways.

There are twists in this book you don't really see coming and are unique. I always love the snark inserted into Ms Langlais' books. Although I don't feel this series is as strong as her other scifi series have been. Maybe, for me it is that this series is more of a serial series and not a whole story about several characters in each book. Also, I feel some of the secondary characters just fall off the story. Oblivion's partner in the ring would have made a funny addition to the crew.....what happened to him? I will read on because of the ending, that and I am a curious creature.
