Rate this book

A pretty interesting collection of queer-themed short stories and vignettes. The mostly lean and uncluttered prose is a welcome change from much of the contemporary Chinese fiction that I've come across. Most of the pieces are also relatively nonjudgmental, and mostly avoid the cliches that plague queer Chinese lit. Some are quite funny. An excerpt (my translation):

Old Chi stood by me, took out his penis; he did not pee but kept shaking it. I did not find it strange, and stood there spacing out, not knowing what I was thinking. Chi started looking at my crotch, not showing any interest in my face. In this large public toilet, with a whole row of urinals, he'd chosen to stand by me and leaned over. I finally realized this, felt perhaps embarrassed, or just concerned that the janitor would notice; I took half a step forward.
