Someone WAS always watching her…

Everywhere she went, Rosalyn Mellinger had eyes on her. The Watcher followed her everywhere. It seemed hopeless, inescapable…especially when she met Steve Drackett on vacation. Another person to be hurt by her stalker. But Rosalyn didn't know Steve was part of Omega Sector—there was literally no one better to protect her, if she'd just open up to him. He had years of experience, and while the Watcher preyed upon Rosalyn, Steve would beat him at his own game.

But Rosalyn had a secret even Steve couldn't see coming: a baby from their vacation romance…

Another entry into the "why did I start this at 10 pm?" category. Started reading this book and couldn't put it down until I finished it at 3 am. The tension began right from the first page as Rosalyn deals with the mental and physical exhaustion created by being constantly watched. She is about at the end of her rope, ready to call a permanent halt to the torment.

Steve is taking the first vacation he's had in years. After the death of his wife twelve years earlier he has devoted his life to his career, most recently as head of Omega Sector's Critical Response Division. The last few months have been especially stressful and he's enjoying the luxury of no responsibilities. He's also intrigued by the young woman who just walked into the beach bar.

I loved the protectiveness that Steve has for Rosalyn from the moment they met. His first impression of her, after her beauty, was that she was trouble. He couldn't stop watching her, even though she wasn't his problem. He was doing well until a couple of guys started pestering her and he could see her discomfort when they wouldn't leave her alone. Then "He hadn't become the director of one of the most elite law enforcement groups in the country by walking away from trouble." I loved how it just took a few words to resolve the problem. I really liked the instant connection they had, shown by their long conversation on the beach. It was sweet to see how surprised Steve was by how easy it was to talk to her. One thing led to another and passion took over. Then, in the middle of the night, another note from the Watcher appeared. Horrified by the threat to Steve, Rosalyn took off without a word to Steve.

I ached so much for Steve, who came back from his vacation feeling betrayed and used. He also couldn't stop thinking about her, still certain that she was in trouble. I loved seeing him get "profiled" by Brandon, who was scary accurate at diagnosing Steve's problem. The news from Pensacola of an unidentified body that looked like Rosalyn sent him zooming back to Florida. After identifying the body, Steve is shocked when he runs into a very much alive - and pregnant - Rosalyn. After hearing her story, Steve isn't sure whether or not to believe her until an attempt is made to run them both over. He can't deny that something is going on and is determined to protect both Rosalyn and the baby.

I enjoyed the development of their relationship, but there were several times when I thought that Steve was a major jerk. After learning the details of what has been happening to her, he's still not sure whether he can trust her. Rosalyn doesn't have that problem, and for the first time in more than a year feels safe. The attraction between them burns hotter and hotter, which creates some problems for Steve. He wants her, but he's also super-protective, not wanting to take advantage of her when she's vulnerable. I loved when she called him on it, as "idiot" was accurate in more ways than one. Steve's years in law enforcement have left him pretty cynical, and he tends to see the worst in people. He makes several terrible mistakes with her, and one in particular was heartbreaking. I hated the way he treated her and cried for Rosalyn and the way it hurt her. His remorse and guilty feelings were well earned, though I thought that Rosalyn forgave him a little too easily. I was glad when he finally got his head out of his butt. The ending was pretty sweet, and I liked his scene on the beach.

The suspense was incredible. To have a stalker like that, one whose actions don't appear threatening so that the police don't take it seriously, would be terrifying. It was bad enough before, but the escalation of the Watcher's actions after Rosalyn and Steve were reunited, kept me glued to the pages. Every time it looked like they had finally escaped the net, he would pop up again with a note, an attack, or both. I loved seeing the entire Omega team work together to figure out how it was happening. I must admit that I figured out the basics of it by the second time Rosalyn entered the Omega building, but the details had some interesting twists. I loved Rosalyn's courage and determination to help draw him out. The final confrontation was intense, with the race against time to find Rosalyn and the Watcher before it was too late. I absolutely loved the way it went down, showing how much Steve loved Rosalyn, and also how much his team cared about Steve.

Rosalyn Mellinger has a stalker whose terrorisation of her has pushed her to breaking point. But a one night stand with Steve Drackett changes her course. She robs him and takes off. They are reunited six months later after the murder of her (surprise) twin sister, and she is pregnant with his baby. Because Steve's actually the director a super duper interagency task force - Omega Sector - Rosalyn is in safe hands as they attempt to find out who her stalker is.

While I appreciated the reasonably fast pace of this romantic suspense tale, a lot of it annoyed me, and even more of it was lazy and stupid! I'll go through what ticked me off, and be warned that there are potential SPOILERS!

- The surprise twin sister. It's what you find in bad soap operas. It's only a minor point here, but it still had me shaking my head!

- Steve Drackett is a dickhead, there's no two ways about it! Rosalyn forgives him way too easily considering what he does. He accuses her of being in cahoots with her own terroriser, which makes absolutely zero sense, and of giving her stalker Steve's whereabouts so the stalker can attack/hill him. What's her motive, Steve? He arrests her, treats her like shit, and drags her back to Omega headquarters for interrogation. Although he's already acknowledged this stalker is cleverer than usual, and may just well have the means to continue to track Rosalyn, he goes ahead with the idea Rosalyn is playing him. Why, Steve? WHAT DOES SHE GET OUT OF IT??? Being mistrustful is one thing, but being willfully stupid and blind is something else entirely. Going with the theory that makes the LEAST sense seems out of character for a guy we've been told (and not shown) is the super smart director of the super duper specialist task force agency.

- Because this is part of the Omega Sector series, EVERY SINGLE PREVIOUS CHARACTER SHOWS UP. Every single one. Since this is basically a standalone story with no plot strands from previous books carried over, this is completely unnecessary. Only a couple of returning of characters would have sufficed as a nod to continuity. Not every bloody one of them! It leaves us with too many characters to keep track of. Recounting all their romantic histories and their previous foes is unnecessary and annoying, and kills the flow of Steve and Rosalyn's story.

The sting they set up to try and catch The Watcher is laughably ludicrous! They apparently don't want to endanger Rosalyn because she's a civilian. They apparently don't want any holes in their plan. So what do they do? They create a fancy new cafe staffed and patroned by Omega staff, that is also open to the public and other civilians! So not are they only endangering the dozen or so non-Watcher patrons who are civilians, they eventually have to abandon the sting because it has presented too many unpredictable possibilities and tangents! Did anyone at Omega even think that one through?!?

- Lack of actual intrigue. Because 95% of the characters are Omega employees, there are no suspects introduced who could be the Watcher. No mystery. Their identity is completely arbitrary. I liked The Watcher's motive - it was quite chilling. But a few actual suspects in the story to flick between would have been welcome.

- Because Steve and his crew work for this super duper specialist interagency taskforce, and are all the best, best, best, BESTEST EVER in their respective fields, it kills the suspense. There's no sense of danger for any of these people, because they're all so damn perfect. At least leave me with the impression they're merely human! This also makes it hard to believe that all these super duper superheroes would concoct such a freaking stupid plan to trap The Watcher in the first place.

I really enjoy the Intrigue line, and I'm willing to go with some suspension of disbelief. But when everything is so freaking dumb and hard to swallow, it really takes me out of the story! Look at all the idiot elements that I listed that grabbed my attention, instead of being able to enjoy the story! Tagged with Steven's less-than-heroic of treatment of Rosalyn, this failed to hit the spot. I sympathised with Rosalyn's situation, liked the killer's motive, and enjoyed the relative fast pace, but they were all lost inside a plot that carried far, far too much stupid!

Rosalyn is being stalked by an unseen man who always know how to find her. No matter where she goes, he finds her, slipping notes under her hotel door, letting her know he's seen and heard everything that she's done that day. In Florida she meets Steve, who happens to be the head of the Omega Sector Police Division. They have a one night stand, and Steve is determined to help Rosalyn with whatever is troubling her. She leaves in the middle of the night because another threatening note is slipped under the door. Six months later, he finds her again, pregnant with his child.

I liked Rosalyn. She was scared, but she tried her best to have a plan. She switched hotels, drove around to try and lose the Watcher. When she found out she was pregnant, she tried to track down Steve to let him know.

I didn't like that Steve suspected her, and arrested her. There didn't seem to be any logic behind that. I understand him not trusting her, but to go so far as suspecting her working with the Watcher was just ridiculous. At the very end it was all over, Rosalyn mentioned that it had only been seven moths since she met Steve, and he says he plans to ask her to marry him. I felt like that was a little too fast, considering everything that had happened in just the past few months. I wish we got an epilogue telling us the name of the baby.

This was a very fast paced book. I liked that, because it made it a simple read.

A good romantic suspense with plenty of action that moved right along. Sometimes the hero swayed a bit to the extreme but he atoned and overall I liked him. I enjoyed the Omega teams loyalty to each other. Rosalyn had a stalker who hurt anyone she became close to, still, she had a one night stand with Steve then disappeared not knowing he could have helped her.

Where do we begin?
It was crazy awesome! We do mean CRAZY.
The Watcher is on the hunt, and the target is Rosalyn Mellinger. Luckily she has a sexy silver fox, Steve Drackett, to protect her; and the baBY?! You believe us now that this is crazy. The really good kind of crazy.
Okay, let's get down to business. Rosalyn meet Steve, well he is on vacation in Flordia. They end up in bed together, the Watcher finds Rosalyn, leaves a threating note for Rosalyn involving Steve, Rosalyn leave's Steve and steals one hundred and eighty-three dollars cash from Steve. (This all happens within the first three chapters. Yes, a lot happens in this book, fast.) By chapter four it is six months later. The murder of Rosalyn brings Steve back to Flordia to identify her body, he see's the dead body only to find Rosalyn a couple hours later alive and pregnant! Yes, you guessed it 6 months pregnant! (Yes, you also guessed right that if you want to find out who the dead body is then you are going to have to read the book.) Rosalyn tells Steve about the Watcher and Steve decides to help her even though he is not sure how much he believes her. Thanks to the Watcher, less than a few minutes later, when he makes attempt on Steve's life, Steve believes Rosalyn and things get down to business. Steve and Rosalyn try for the rest of the book to figure out who the Watcher is while staying alive. All the while they try to figure out their relationship and where they stand with each other.
Mom personally wants to say here that Janie Crouch is one of her favorite authors because mom trusts her, no matter what the story, no matter what the relationship, to make loveable characters that she can cheer for; and, of course, find their happy ending. Mom would like to state that she loves the way Janie Crouch writes characters. She makes them human, but rational, which in romance, especially crazy sauce romance, is harder to find than you would think. If you have not picked up a Janie Crouch go do it right NOW! How about Battled Tested? Anyone?

This book has a tight, twisty, believable, suspenseful plot with a satisfying ending. Rosalyn is being driven toward insanity by a stalker she calls “The Watcher.” Steve’s startlingly immediate need to protect Rosalyn battles with his mind’s distrust of her.
I really enjoyed this book!

With her typical attention getting style, Janie Crouch hooks us yet again from the very start of this newest release in her Omega Sector: Critical Response series! It's hard to put down as things happen when you least expect it and you're constantly trying to figure out who the bad guy is. Love this group of characters and the life mates they find along the way!

If you've read the previous books, you'll recognize the boss of Omega Sector, Steve Drackett. The one time they convince him to get out of the office and actually take a vacation, they should have known that trouble would follow him home!

Rosalyn Mellinger happens upon Steve when she needs a friend most, and they spend a couple of days enjoying each other's company. She's been living in terror for months, so actually being with someone that seems to get her is a joy. Until she realizes he's out there ... watching ... yet again. She has no clue that Steve is actually law enforcement and actually might be able to help her, so she runs in order to protect him.

Months pass, but Steve doesn't forget about Rosalyn. When she crosses his path again, he sets out to find out the truth about what's going on with her ... and when he does, he also finds out the surprise she has for him ... the baby they are expecting!

Battle Tested is the 6th book in Ms. Crouch’s series Omega Sector: Critical Response Division. My first exposure to the author’s writing, was book 5, Overwhelming Force. Though I liked book 5 more, this one is still a good one.
This is Steve Brackett’s , the leader of Omega Sector, story. He is on vacation in Florida , when he meets Roslyn. She has walked into a bar after a rainstorm. He could see she was “trouble” but still is pulled to her. After a one nightstand , Roslyn disappears with his cash . Steve feels taken advantage but still can’t forget her after 6 months. They meet again, and the suspense , action, and whodunit , as well as romance goes from 0 to 60.
I now tempted to go back to the first 4 books, since all the secondary characters are interesting and seem to have great stories.

I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is a great book about a woman named Rosalyn who has a terrible stalker who calls himself The Watcher. He seems to be able to find her no matter where she runs and begins to kill people she loves. Steve is an Omega Sector agent who begins to protect her, falls in love with her, and gets her pregnant. She doesn't want the Watcher to find Steve and kill him, too, so she runs away from Steve as well as the Watcher (who continues to keep finding her). Bad things happen, there are attempts on her life as well, and when Steve catches up with her they do a thorough sweep of all her clothes and belongings to check for trackers. With no trackers, seemingly, the Watcher STILL continues to find her. She begins to think it would be easier to commit suicide to end all the chasing and to protect other people from getting killed because of her. Can they figure out how the Watcher keeps finding her? Can they trap him and catch him somehow? Can Rosalyn and Steve ever be able to have an HEA? This is a dramatic story that kept me on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. I highly recommend reading it!

Battle Tested is the tenth book in the Omega Sector Universe Series (Omega Sector: Critical Response #6) by Janie Crouch. I am reviewing The Omega Sector Universe series, which is made up of 16 engrossing reads and comprises of three connected series.
Omega Sector
Omega Sector: Critical Response
Omega Sector: Under Siege
This is a compelling collection of romantic suspense novels that blends high-stakes action with emotionally engaging storylines. The series focuses on a team of elite operatives who face dangerous missions while navigating complex personal relationships- resulting in a dynamic and immersive reading experience.
Each book in the series offers a unique storyline while maintaining a connection to the overarching universe. The characters are well-developed, with their personal struggles, highs and lows, adding depth to the storylines. The balance between suspenseful plot twists and heartfelt romance ensured an engaging read throughout.
Happy Reading…

Brilliant

Janie, you never cease to give me a an amazing reading experience.

Rosalyn is in the run from a deranged stalker. Taking shelter in a bar from a rain is the catalyst that will hopefully see her nightmare fade. Steve is taking a well deserve vacation when he sees rosalyn duck into a bar and helps her from some unwanted male attention.
Knowing something is going on he invited her to stay at his hotel room. When the stalker threatens Steve’s life Rosalind knows she has to keep moving, but when the both cross each other’s paths again, an unexpected consequence sees Steve wanting to protect her with all he has.

The plot line was amazing. Very unique. The suspense was brilliant and really had my guessing.
To start with I really wanted to punch Steve and tell him to stop being an idiot. Rosalyn had been handed a raw deal and I truly felt so sorry for her.
Steve took his head out his backside in good time and apologised. Was glad to see them get their HEA.

Wow. I love when I can be surprised at something in a Romantic Suspense Novel. This one has a few unusual twists that make it better than all the rest. Still has the strong and sometimes spunky characters I love, great romance, and action scenes. This is a great conclusion to the Critical Response set of Omega Sector books. I cannot wait to begin the last in the set, which is Omega Sector: Under Siege. This set was alluded to early in the Critical Response series and I have been waiting to get there while enjoying the other books first. You can read them as stand alone books, but if you like short (5 or 6 books each section) series with each main person getting their own HEA, then you should read all of the Omega Sector books by Janie Crouch. Go to her website www.janiecrouch.com for the list and the best order to read them in. I AM JUST A FAN, THIS IS NOT A PAID OR REWARDED ENDORSEMENT. Her Linear Tactical, Risk, and Instinct Series' are also wonderful!!!!

Every time I read a Jamie Crouch book I'm reminded of why I love them so much. Effortlessly she fuses plot and romance together. Effortlessly the action informs the romance and the romance the action. Her scenes jump off the page and this one has to be one of my favourites from her. I loved how the author dealt with the storyline - the prologue was really well done and made the romance so much more believable. And I loved how all the other characters in the previous books got a cameo too. Fab, fab, fab.

This is such a fantastic book that kept me on edge. I couldn’t stop reading and even stayed up all night until I finished. Rosalyn has a stalker and no matter how safe she is being, he seems to always find her. Loved how hard Steve falls for her, but he keeps messing up because he can’t seem to trust her. But how is this stalker finding them, even with the help of his Omega team. Loved the twist and being surprised by the plot. Thankfully they finally get their happy ever after. This book is worth re reading and I highly recommend reading this series.

Stalked definitely!

Talk about being stalked. This was one I couldn't put down. There is not much spice, but a lot of suspense. For Roslyn and Steve, who would guess that all the twists and turns were actually destined to be together.
