Nancy, Bess, and George solve a doggone puzzler of a mystery during the annual River Heights Halloween Pet Parade in the sixth book in an all-new, interactive Nancy Drew chapter book mystery series.
Nancy, Bess, and George are gearing up for a weekend of River Heights Halloween activities, including the annual Howl-A-Ween Pet Parade! All the kids get to dress up their pets and march with them up Main Street. Nancy’s dog, Chocolate Chip, is even picked to lead the parade atop a festive hay wagon float!
But right before show time, Chip starts whining, running in circles, and burrowing into the hay! When Nancy can’t calm her down, the parade officials remove her as the leader!
Nancy, Bess, and George wonder if something—or someone—made Chip act that way. Nancy pulls out her clue book; the Clue Crew is on the case! Who’s behind Chip’s strange doggy behavior? Is it Deidre Shannon, who was mad that Chip was chosen over her princess puppy Pom-Pom to lead the parade? Felipe the Pet Trainer, who wanted a dog he was training to lead the parade? Or is it—yikes!—the ghost of Murray the Monster Mutt? Will the Clue Crew crack this case before all the River Heights pets go batty?
Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people- both men and women- over the years. The company that was the creator of the Nancy Drew series, the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired a variety of writers. For Nancy Drew, the writers used the pseudonym Carolyn Keene to assure anonymity of the creator.
Edna and Harriet Stratemeyer inherited the company from their father Edward Stratemeyer. Edna contributed 10 plot outlines before passing the reins to her sister Harriet. It was Mildred Benson (aka: Mildred A. Wirt), who breathed such a feisty spirit into Nancy's character. Mildred wrote 23 of the original 30 Nancy Drew Mystery Stories®, including the first three. It was her characterization that helped make Nancy an instant hit. The Stratemeyer Syndicate's devotion to the series over the years under the reins of Harriet Stratemeyer Adams helped to keep the series alive and on store shelves for each succeeding generation of girls and boys. In 1959, Harriet, along with several writers, began a 25-year project to revise the earlier Carolyn Keene novels. The Nancy Drew books were condensed, racial stereotypes were removed, and the language was updated. In a few cases, outdated plots were completely rewritten.
Other writers of Nancy Drew volumes include Harriet herself, she wrote most of the series after Mildred quit writing for the Syndicate and in 1959 began a revision of the first 34 texts. The role of the writer of "Carolyn Keene" passed temporarily to Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression. Also contributing to Nancy Drew's prolific existence were Leslie McFarlane, James Duncan Lawrence, Nancy Axelrod, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., and Margaret Scherf.
Nancy Drew Clue Book Pets on Parade. Get ready for a mystery full of furry friends and some really strange stuff!
So, Nancy's got this super awesome dog named Chocolate Chip, but we call him Chip for short. But you know what's really cool? There's a dog named Murray who used to be on a TV show about mysteries! It's like dogs solving mysteries - how cool is that?
Okay, so here's where it gets really weird. Chip's wearing this old cape that belonged to Murray, and guess what? It gets all stinky because of a skunk! And then Nancy's like, "No worries, I got this," and she washes the cape with lemons, vinegar, and some other secret stuff. She's like a detective scientist!
But guess what happens next? Chip starts acting like crazy, rolling around and going all wild! It's like the cape is making him act super funny. And that's when the real mystery begins. Is the cape making Chip act crazy? Is it haunted or something? We've got to find out, right?
Nancy and her pals start investigating. They're like super detectives, looking for clues and asking questions. They even have to figure out if the cape is making Chip act like a possessed dog or not. It's like a doggy mystery!
I had sooo much fun reading this book. It's like a puzzle that you have to solve along with Nancy and her friends. And you know what? I learned something cool from this book. Sometimes, you just gotta try things out, like Nancy washing the cape. And also, before you do something, you need to do some research. Like, you can't just put random stuff on things without knowing what they do!
So, if you're into mysteries, cute dogs, and super fun adventures, you should totally read "Nancy Drew Clue Book: Pets on Parade." It's full of surprises and lessons, and it's like opening a door to a world of cool detective stuff. Even though this book isn't written by a science expert, it's still awesome and full of possibilities!

Nancy's dog Chocolate Chip is auditioning to be the leader in the pet parade but something about his costume is making him go crazy! Is a monster actually trying to curse Chip's costume?
Nancy Drew enters her dog Chip in a pet costume contest, despite being sprayed by Antonio Elefano's pet skunk, Chip wins the contest and the right to lead the Howl-a-ween Pet Parade. But on the day of the parade Chip acts oddly and is unable to lead the parade. So who is the culprit - is it Deirdre whose dog Princess Pom-Pom gets to lead the parade when Chip drops out; Felipe Gomez, dog-trainer superstar or the ghost of Murray the Monster Mutt, whose costume Chip is wearing.
I liked this one since the solution delves into a little science and it is a neat break from their always being a bad guy spoiling the show.
