Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
So - right - Ka-zar - great - no super powers - right - going up against Spidey - in the able to lift 10 tons class - lets not forget Zabu - right - still love this book!
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #57-58 (The Coming of Ka-Zar)
Following the epic cliffhanger at the end of the immediately previous storyline Doc Ock Wins! (no spoilers 🤫), we get an admittedly slightly less compelling storyline. Make no mistake, this is not only a competent story but an excellingly above average one. Spider-Man comics from the Silver Age always delivered even at their shorter end of the stick, which can’t be said for many of even the best Marvel comic books of the time.
It’s just nowhere near as good as the previous story. Moreover, it doesn’t really fully utilize the amazing opportunity baked into the premise and set-up of the incredible cliffhanger it was given as its starting point. Still a well told story, but doesn’t really ever use the potential of its premise to its full advantage.
lots going on here. JJonah sweet talks Lord Plunder aka Ka-Zar into tackling menace Spider-Man. Peter still has amnesia and us stealing sandwiches. May collapses ...again!
Peter still hasn't recovered his memory (a side effect of the MacGuffin from ASM #55) so he's resorted to scuttling across the buildings of NYC, stealing sandwiches and talking to himself like some kind of Gollum that sticks to walls. Enter stage left; Ka-zar, Lord of the Jungle, hired by Jameson to defeat Spider-Man. Not sure if you're keeping a tally but after helping to create the villain Scorpion and releasing the Spider Slayer upon the public (more next ish!) you'd think he'd learn his lesson by now trying this old scheme especially considering the Web slinger has subsequently saved his ass multiple times.
"Her condition is 90% emotional!" - the Parker family doctor finally has enough of being called out every other day each time Aunt May collapses out of worry that Peter *might* be in trouble. That or Stan Lee finally tired of trying to explain what medical ailment she's currently suffering.
Amazing Spider-Man #57 is a fun but slightly uneven issue that continues Spidey’s amnesia arc while throwing Ka-Zar and Zabu into the mix for some jungle-flavored chaos. The concept of Spider-Man, still without his memories, struggling to survive without his usual resources or direction is compelling. Seeing him scavenge for essentials like food and shelter adds a refreshing layer of vulnerability to the character.
That said, the plot leans on some shaky premises, like J. Jonah Jameson somehow convincing Ka-Zar to go after Spider-Man. It’s a bit of a stretch, even for Silver Age comics, but it does set up an entertaining hero-versus-hero misunderstanding fight.
Aunt May’s fainting spell feels par for the course at this point, serving as a minor subplot rather than a meaningful development. However, the issue shines when focusing on Peter’s isolated struggle, adding a sense of grit and realism to his amnesiac state.
Sorry but i didn't like this gentleman Ka-zar on suit, that looks as the blonde handsome version of Kraven in the city. All his appearances seem like a shampoo advertisement on slow motion that are an excuse to show his naked chest.
Also, it's not believable how J. J. Jameson convinces Ka-zar to stop Spider-man, at this point he should already distrust civilized people intentions.
Aunt May fainting is as usual as heroes fighting because of misunderstandings.
In contrast, i liked Spider-man lost without a clue, struggling to survive by his own even to get essentials as food and seek shelter.
Nasib sial masih membuntuti Spider-Man. Saat ia masih belum ingat siapa dirinya, Spider-Man harus menghadapi Ka-Zar si raja rimba bersama Zabu, macan bergigi pedang peliharaannya. Dalam kebingungannya, nyaris, nyaris saja Spider-Man membuka topengnya di hadapan Jonah Jameson.
