This is an aggregate review of the first 18 Giant Days issues (so basically first year) because if I review every single issue of every graphic novel I read I will flood my reviews with them and it will be no fun for anyone involved. Awlright. Anyways, while I still *at the end of the run* think Giant Days is a mediocre title for this series, I will concede that where this series truly excels is making days feel giant. Everything is ramped up to a level of cartoonishness (see: Esther's drama bombs) that makes the cast feel more alive, and the emotive art does wonders to add to this. The whole cast, especially the massive extended cast, has charm of their own, and the gradually expanding cast is just. I love them. I love Ed. I like that Dean exists even if he's a shit. Obviously I adore McGraw and wanted him and Susan to get together all semester. Speaking of Susan, she's my favorite of the main cast-- a depressing loner to counter Daisy's naive optimism and can-do attitude (which is backed up by hella grit, never count her out) and gothic horror story who radiates sex appeal like the sun radiates UV radiation Esther. Between the three of them things are happening all the time. Usually exciting things. There's something to love in all three of them, who turn out to be exceptionally well-rounded as the story progresses, and who encounter very real high school problems such as falling into the night zone, a place from which there is no return. It's almost Archie-esque, but with far more relatable characters and debacles (also better art have I talked about the art I love the character designs they're simple but very effective I love watching them move it's good okay). A firm recommendation to any slice-of-life fan.
Ah, and there it was.. Growth. "When I got here, I thought I knew everything. After a year, I'm pretty sure I know nothing." What a super cute ending to the gangs first year. This was by far my favourite issue of the series. I can't wait to see their biggest mistakes yet to have come. Although, I am a little upset that the old ruins are being knocked down. That's OUR memories now! :(
Leaving a dorm after the first year of college, the uncertainty of summer, and the homesickness for a place you'd only lived in 8 months but felt like a lifetime? Oh yes. I know those feels. #allenhall
A cute ending to first year. This issue had laugh out loud gems like always. 'optimism like this will leave you dead in a ditch.' 'I'm not going skinny dipping, my body is a secret.'
Esther in Ed sta mela moment :) js kr malu navijam za njiju, heh. V tem delu sta se precej družla in bla vsa panična, ko sta zvedla da sta v bistvu nezakonito ponarejala študentske eseje/naloge...
