Lauren Dane has been writing stories since she was able to use a pencil, and before that she used to tell them to people. Of course, she still talks nonstop, and through wonderful fate and good fortune, she’s now able to share what she writes with others. It’s a wonderful life!

The basics: Lauren is a mom, a partner, a best friend and a daughter. Living in the rainy but beautiful Pacific Northwest, she spends her late evenings writing like a fiend when she finally wrestles all of her kids to bed.

Set in a post pandemic world in which much of the population died, Summer has finally found her place in a small community. Then the man that left her years ago returns with his partner. The love is still there, but trust has to be earned and her fear of them leaving her overcome. This book was emotional and steamy, exactly what I love about Lauren Dane.

I like the concept but I just felt like something was missing. I think I just needed a bit more storytelling and world building to go with the sexy fun times.

“Ms. Dane is masterful at writing complex emotions and weaving them into even sexual situations.”
~ Under the Covers

I picked this book up on a whim after I saw the author mention on social media that this might’ve been the dirtiest book she’d ever written. As a longtime fan of her work, that caught my attention! LOL Plus I also love stories that have a post-apocalyptic setting. I had completely forgotten this novella had previously been published in an anthology years ago. See below for Annie’s review of that.

But back to ALL THAT REMAINS. Our heroine is Summer is living in Paradise Village when she meets Charlie who is basically passing through town. It’s lust at first sight for both of them. But Charlie is already in a relationship with Hatch and adding Summer to the mix might just be what they had both been looking for. Except for the minor detail that turns out to be Hatch isn’t a stranger and he broke Summer’s heart in the past.

Ms. Dane is masterful at writing complex emotions and weaving them into even sexual situations. I loved how the love between Hatch and Charlie came through, Charlie’s “insta-love” for Summer, and also the turbulent love and need for redemption between Hatch and Summer. Somehow all that made the menage just work.

Now as far as the claim that this is the dirtiest thing she’s ever written… I’m not sure. It is a pretty steamy novella though so if you’re looking for a quick steamy read this might be the one for you.

Check out Annie’s original review of this novella when it was first published in the MARKED anthology along with Kit Rocha and Vivian Arend. Click here.

Interesting concept

Its a post pandemic world where sexual relationships between multiple partners is common. The concept is interesting and the character development was good.

The world and the concepts were great, the MCs really needed more character building and communication in between all the sex scenes.

Loved it

A non dystopian, steamy future Earth love story. MM MMF ménage.
Great world building. Set 400 years in the future. Viruses had decimated the population, for a time women were treated as possessions, over time with fewer women being born they are now revered. Triad and quad relationships are the norm.
Summer lives in a small farming village working in a bakery. She followed her sister to lend her support while she grieved the loss of her family. Unattached she enjoys casual hook ups and the simple village life.
Charlie has spent the last 9 years caravanning from place to place working various jobs. The last 3 he has shared his travels with his lover Hatch. He is getting tired of being on the road and is ready to put down roots. Maybe find a women to share with Hatch and start a family.
Charlie and Hatch's travels bring them to Summers village. When Charlie meets Summer they share and instant connection. When Charlie brings Hatch to meet Summer, the present and past collide. Hatch and Summer have a history, childhood friends then lovers. Hatch was stifled in the city and ached to see the world. Summer was tied to her family unable to leave in their time of need. Hatch left her when she needed him most.
It is Clear to Charlie that Summer and Hatch love each other. The three of them could have forever. Hatch broke her heart, can she trust him with it again.
A sweet and steamy second chance love story. Loved Charlie, Summer and Hatch. Hoping Summer's sister finds love again.

The book was well done. I liked how the author was able to connect the characters so well. I didn't feel like the book was futuristic, that being said, it was a great plot.
