Eleanor Stewart had always had a difficult relationship with her mother, but when her mother's persistent ill-health, caused by Parkinson's Disease, meant she needed a new home, Eleanor offered her one. As Mary Stewart reveals more and more of her past, Eleanor discovers a woman she has never really known, and the two forge a strong relationship that was not possible before.
How week do we really know our parents? Stewart’s mother came to live with her and her family and she soon learned all sorts of things about her mother. She had an adventurous life, survived a major naval disaster, had a dashing shipboard romance, and got a nun drunk. That was one of the most humorous parts. I thought it was an interesting book.
