AWW, I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH YAY!

What’s it about?
It’s Halloween. Pig loves her costume but Pug doesn’t like his. He destroys the costume and decides he doesn’t care about going out on Halloween but Pig still wants to. Pug figures out a way for the both of them to go trick or treating!

Why it gets 5 stars:
The story is fun and sweet!
The art is just as adorable in this book as it is in book one!

The characters are very interesting! For one, they’re fucking adorable! The other thing is that they have humorous, cute personalities that makes me like them and their friendship even more.
This book is sometimes pretty humorous.
This book is less predictable than the first in the series (Pug Meets Pig) so I like that very much.
There are some nice nods to that first book.
The ending is cute and sweet.

Overall:
This book is so cute and makes me so happy! I hope there are going to be more adventures of this Pug and Pig.
The cute story, adorable art, laughs and great characters make for a very good book especially if you’re like me and read picture books to your puppy.
Some may say dumb shit like “L., you’re an adult, you’re too old for picture books” but ya know what, a good book is a good book. If they don’t want to read it, fine but it’s cute as fuck so their loss.

5/5

How is no one commenting on how unsettling it is that Pig and Pug live in a house by themselves in a world of humans? I was three-quarters of the way through the book when the first humans showed up and was all, "waitaminnit-there are *humans* in this world?" Furthermore, these two answer the door and show up at parties with nary a human owner in sight, and no one bats an eyelash? Curious, verrrry curious...

I loved the the illustrations and I loved the font but the story didn't win me over. I know after reading the reviews on this one that I'm sitting pretty much on my own on this one but that's okay. Let's get to the good stuff first: I loved the illustrations. The illustrations feel soft to me, like cuddly soft yet everything is outlined in black and colored in. I like the colors that were choosen as they're not bright but have that authum feel. The text font is bold on each of the pages, it stands out, and the color used contrasts the pages background.

In the story, tonight is Halloween and Pig is excited. Pig likes just about everything about her costume for trick-or-treating but Pug does not, so she takes it off. Pug has decided that, "Pug doesn't care about Halloween anymore." Wow, that was a big statement to me. Here sits two best friends: one doesn't care about the holiday and one loves it. What's going to happen now, I thought? Will they do something different together? Will they compromise? Will they start a new tradition?

Well, nothing really exciting changes. Nothing different happens. Pug begins to think about his best friend Pig and what will happen if he doesn't go. Does Pig think about Pug and why he doesn't like Hallween? No. Pug continues to think and comes up with an idea. The idea makes it a "happy" ending.

Pug and Pig Trick or Treat is a cute little story about two friends who feel differently about Halloween costumes. This story, while light and adorable also teaches children that it's okay to disagree with your friends and still be okay. It also demonstrates freedom of thinking, new ideas and creating compromise with friends. My daughter loved the simplicity while learning big ideas.

Pig is thrilled with her costume and how it fits. Pug hates his costume and how cramped he feels inside it. Finally, Pug can't take it any more and sheds the costume. But now Pig is sad because she doesn't have anyone to answer the door with, or trick or treat with, or go to the party with. Can Pug find a solution that makes them both happy? This is a pretty simple story, but that very simpleness is what carries the day as Pug and Pig need to compromise to make themselves both happy. The story is cute, but the message at the heart of it, friendship and adapting to make that friendship work shines through beautifully.

This book is adorable, with a story and illustrations perfect for an audience grades 1 and under. The story of friendship and Halloween will delight both readers familiar with Pug and Pig, as well as those new to the pair.

Highly recommended for Halloween storytimes for the younger crowd!

The adorable sequel to Pug Meets Pig, this was a must-purchase for our family when we saw it. Our toddler loves Joyce Wan's books, and her illustrations and Sue Lowell Gallion's sweet story come together to form the complete package in this picture book.

In this book, our unlikely friends Pug and Pig find that friends don't always like the same things. However, they are able to problem solve and compromise to still have a great Halloween together, because their friendship and each other's happiness are important. We love this sweet story year-round!

I enjoyed this Pug and Pig book better than the first however, Pigs character still seemed pushy and not a character I would want children to relate to. I do think the idea of having a good friend to experience things with is great! As with the first book, I do enjoy this style of art.

This a story about a pug who doesn't like his Halloween costume. Once he gets it off he realizes that now he wont be able to go with his pig friend. Pug finds a costume that he likes and then everyone is happy. A great story about being yourself.

Hello, friends! Happy October! We’re starting off the Halloween season with a review of the delightfully fun Pug & Pig: Trick-Or-Treat, written by Sue Lowell Gallion and illustrated by Joyce Wan.

In this spooky sequel, Pug and Pig are back and getting ready for the holiday: their house is decorated, their yard has a scarecrow, and they have their own personalized pumpkins. They even have matching costumes: skeleton suits with masks. Pig loves his costume! It hugs her and her round tummy, and she likes that the mask disguises her. Pug, however, is less thrilled. He does like the way the leotard squishes him, and hates that the mask hides who he is. Fed up, Pug shreds his costume into pieces all over the yard and decides he’s done with Halloween. This makes Pig sad: she was looking forward to her first Halloween and doing all the fun activities with her very best friend. Can the two find a compromise so that they can both enjoy the holiday?

This was a great follow-up to the relentlessly charming Pug Meets Pig. The adorably unlikely pals are back in all their Kawaii-inspired glory, looking so cute and cuddly on each page that you want to reach out and snuggle them. The story is great, too: the two find a good compromise wherein Pig has her friend to trick-or-treat with, but Pug feels comfortable in what he’s wearing. The length is perfect, and JJ loves the darling duo. This one is a great way to celebrate the holiday while teaching a lesson in friendship and compromise, and it’s Baby Bookworm approved!

Pug and Pig are the best of friends. Pig is super excited to wear his costume for Halloween until he finds out that Pug does not like his costume and doesn't want to participate in all the fun Halloween activities. Pig is sad and doesn't know who will go with him to trick-or-treat or play all the fun games. Can Pug come up with a plan to celebrate Halloween with his friend, Pig?

This simple story will delight children and get them excited for Halloween. Pug and Pig are wonderful friends who do everything together. When Pug realizes that Pig is sad, he comes up with a solution to make Pig happy again. Pug also offers a dilemma that many children face, having to wear masks and uncomfortable costumes. I really disliked wearing masks as a child and pretty much wore the same witch costume every year so I didn't have to wear masks on my face. Little kids will find Pug's new costume idea silly and giggle at the illustrations. Since the book is centered around Halloween, the colors are dark and muted, but the expressions on Pug and Pig are easily identifiable and these two round little animals are just adorable. Pug and Pig also share a lesson on a compromise that will come in handy for friendship and sibling relationships.

The author published her first Pug and Pig book a year ago and I could see the series becoming popular among younger children. If you like having books focused on certain holidays and events, this would make an excellent addition to your home library.

PUG & PIG TRICK-OR-TREAT is an adorable and delightful Halloween-themed picture book about friendship. Halloween is coming, and Pug and Pig are ready, much to Pig's delight and Pug's chagrin. Their matching skeleton costumes are ruined when Pug shreds his around the yard. Pig wants someone to do all the fun Halloween things with him, such as trick-or-treating and handing out candy. Pug realizes this and comes up with his own Halloween costume. Together, they celebrate the holiday in their own costumes.

What I loved: This is a really sweet story of friendship and finding a compromise to make friends happy. Although Pug isn't into the holiday and hates his costume, he finds a new costume so that he can enjoy the Halloween festivities that Pig is excited about. The end result is something that makes both of them happy. The simple phrasing and repetitive language is perfect for young readers, especially toddlers and preschoolers, and those who are beginning to read independently. The illustrations are really great as well, with expressive characters, plenty of color, and Halloween fun.

Final verdict: A sweet picture book about friendship, PUG & PIG TRICK-OR-TREAT is a delightful Halloween read that toddlers and preschoolers are sure to love.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Now that Pug and Pig are best friends, it’s time to think about going trick-or-treating together. Pug and Pig’s costumes make them look like skeletons. They fit nice and tightly, which makes Pig. Pig even likes the mask so no one will know who he is. But Pug is not at all happy with the tight fit of his costume, or his mask - no one will know who he is. Can these siblings find a way for both Pug and Pig to be happy? Umm…looks like Pug has an idea.
This is a great story about how simple problem solving can avoid disappointments and possible meltdowns, showing young readers how effective a compromise can be. Wan’s simple illustrations really capture the emotions each pig feels, and she even manages to depict movement as Pug runs out the doggy door after coming up with his idea. A lovely second book for new and old fans of Pug & Pig, and anyone who like a gentle Halloween tale.

Pug and pig are great friends, but that doesn’t mean they like the same things. Pig loves to put on a costume for Halloween, go trick-or-treating, and have fun at a party. Pug hates tight costumes and doesn’t care about Halloween. Pig is feeling sad that she’ll have to celebrate all on her own until Pug gets a great idea that will make them both happy.

Pug & Pig Trick-or-Treat by Sue Lowell Gallion looks at how friends can be different and still find ways to have fun together. Joyce Wan’s illustrations are adorable. Her simple lines depicting smiling and frowning faces convey lots of emotion so little ones can grasp the significance of each character’s actions throughout the story.

Parents looking to add a Halloween picture book to their bookshelf can’t go wrong with this ode to friendship and individuality.

Pug and Pig Trick-or-Treat written by Sue Lowel Gallion and illustrated by Joyce Wan is a gentle, cozy Halloween tale with pug and pig. The pair are back, this time to celebrate Halloween. Pug and pig have matching costumes but pug isn’t comfortable in his. He also isn’t interested in all the festivities. Pig really wants him to be a part of the fun. Will pug find a way to be comfortable and get involved? Cute and cuddly illustrations were created with pencil drawing and colored in digitally. Wan uses bold colors to create delightful settings and, of course, characters who are lovable and sweet. Together, Gallion and Wan have created ann endearing Halloween story that’s perfect for young readers. It is an ideal read aloud for a toddler/preschool Halloween storytime. Pug and dog lovers will especially enjoy Pug and Pig Trick-or-Treat. Highly recommended.

Our favorite friends Pug and Pig are back with another book "Pug & Pig Trick-or-Treat" by Sue Lowell Gallion. This time the friends are dressed in identical costumes for Halloween while Pig is happy and optimistic about Halloween pug is miserable and doesn't like his costumes. Realizing how much Halloween means to pig, pug creates his own costume to trick or treat with and they have a awesome time. This book is very warming while showing how best friends sacrifice for each other. This story line and illustrations are amazing while teaching a valuable lesson to the targeted audience preschool- third grade.

It's Halloween!! Pig and Pug are dressed in identical skeleton costumes! Pig LOVES her costume! Pug -- not so much. In fact, Pug tears off his costume! Aaaah! Oh no! Now Pig is sad because she won't have anyone to help her pass out candy, or go trick or treating, or get yummy snacks at the party.... But wait! Pug might just have the perfect solution!
I really liked this book! It is so true of toddlers and preschoolers -- some LOVE their costumes; others - not so much. A great not spooky read for the little ones! Who can then figure out if they are more like Pig -- or more like Pug!

If you're looking for Halloween books to add to your youngster's personal or library collection, grab this one. I've not read the original "Pug & Pig" so I don't know how this extends their friendship.
Rendered in pencil, then colored digitally, illustrations are predominately in orange and grey. The roly-poly shapes provide enough detail to show the season but not too much to be distracting.
Mostly simple text is set in large white or black to contrast with background. I can imagine young readers having fun reading this aloud to each other or to their own pets.

Pug and Pig are back in another adventure, and this one explores a situation kids will be familiar with: what do you do when you want to do one thing and your friend wants to do something else? Gallion has written her text so that it's clean and clear (and perfect for repetitive reads), and Wan's art captures the adorable animal characters' personalities so that no matter what they do, readers will still love them. I'd recommend this book for parents or teachers who want to prompt discussions about interpersonal conflict.

Gallion, Sue Lowell Pug & Pig: Trick-or-Treat, illustrated by Joyce Wan. PICTURE BOOK. Beach Lane (Simon), 2017. $18.

Pig is very happy with her Halloween costume, but Pug is not having it. When he sees that Pig is unhappy, though, he comes up with a costume idea that makes both of them happy.

Like the first in the series, this would make a good board book, or a small format picture book. Nothing wrong with it, just not an overwhelming new favorite.

I love both pug and pig. They are the best. They are adorable. They are friends. They work through problems together and make the reader smile. This story is sheer delight because they love each other so much and find a way to enjoy Halloween together. The characters, story and illustrations melt my heart and I cannot wait to read this book to my class for Halloween. I know the kids are going to love it as much as I do. I am excited to share Pug and Pig with them.

"Pug & Pig: Trick-or-Treat" could be an effective read-aloud for children ages 0 - 5, but its simplicity isn't remarkable or insightful...it's simply simple. The fundamental difference between Pug and Pig's approaches to Halloween is intriguing, but Pug's solution to address the problem is odd. The illustrations are lively, however, and young audiences may find the story silly and entertaining (without realizing the premise of the story was superior to the conclusion).

Adorable.

Pig loves his costume, but Pug feels constricted in his body suit. When he rips off the costume, Pig is upset that Pug won't accompany him in costuming.

Pug rolls around in the mud and goes out with Pig as his shadow.

Large pictures and large text make this a great Halloween pick for little readers.

I did not like this book. The illustrations were okay, but the story was meh. I feel like maybe I expected more from this book? I did like how Pug followed Pig and how Pig thought it was his shadow following him around, but I didn't like how it ended. I didn't like how Pug never told Pig 'hey look it's me!'. Bit disappointing for me.

10/28/25 Pug & Pig are adorable in their matching, glow-in-the-dark skeleton costumes. However, only Pig loves her costume - Pug feels squashed and anonymous (horrors!!) in his outfit. But they learn to celebrate Halloween in a way that makes them both happy. Also, plot twist, Pug is the one who rolls in the mud first. You thought it would be Pig, didn't you? :P
