The town of Tarnation, Texas has no single females of marriageable age. The single men of the town are threatening to move to larger towns to find a wife which would cause Tarnation to die out. Young widow Lydia Harrison travels to her home state of Virgina where she places an ad in the newpaper and interviews several young women who are interested in moving west to marry. Seven young women ultimately head west with Lydia and her friend Sophie; each girl escaping something or someone and looking for acceptance and love.
A well written series with interesting characters. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series as well.
Rachel Ross loved bookkeeping which unfortunately got her wrongfully accused of embezzlement. Her family except for her brother all believed her to be guilty. After being wrongfully convicted she came back to have her family kick her out. She meets a wonderful woman that takes her out West and introduces her to a wonderful new life. Go with her on adventure of a new beginning! I loved this historical book.
I loved this book from start to finish. It had a little different twist to the story that was really great and I enjoyed it so much.I couldn't put it down and it was so easy to dive right in when I knew so many characters from the previous books.
This is a sweet love story written by Caroline Clemmons. She has used her great imagination with the plot and the characters. She has included excitement, adventure and love in writing this tale. You will enjoy discovering their happily ever after.
Needing a second chance the move West is good for Rachel until the past repeats. Faith and trust comes hard but wins out. Love this series. Family doesn't always mean blood.
Of all the western/historical authors I have read Caroline Clemmons is one that can make you feel you are right there ... in the past ... watching love grow for a couple that needs it.
Falsely accused of embezzlement and imprisoned Rachel Ross expects that, at least, her family believed in her innocence. Released she finds she is no longer welcome by them. They have turned on her, do not believe her and no longer want her around, so she embarks on a new life. As a mail order bride to a dusty little town called Tarnation, Texas, perhaps she can find happiness.
Zane Evans is instantly attracted to Rachel. A former Pinkerton agent, wanting to forget that world and the things he saw during the war wants a quiet life. Courting Rachel adds an element he hadn't planned and when her past reveals itself can this couple move forward?
RACHEL (Bride Brigade #5) will have to glued to the pages. I personally wanted to throttle the family, her sisters, mother and definitely her father, more so later in the book. The only saving grace for them was her brother, who believed in her innocence through it all. Zane comes off as steady, determined for a new life and just what Rachel needs. I loved that he believed in her and secretly sent out a friend to find out the truth, and the truth will make you even more angry with her family. Tarnation is filled with characters with a variety of personalities that add to the complexities of this story. Small towns have a certain vibe and Tarnation has it in droves.
All of Ms. Clemmons Brigade of Brides books have been very well written with touches of history that make it all realistic but this one just seemed to touch me more than the others. I have an open space on my Kindle just waiting for the next offering.
This was a wonderful book, I felt for Rachel, wrongly accused for embezzlement she went through some difficult times . Her family practically through her to the wolves, apart from her brother who was civil to her no one cared what happened to her! Answering an add for mail order brides she starts a new life in Texas, she's fortunate to meet Zane and their attraction is instant, she wants to be honest about her life but not necessarily at the very beginning. Her feelings for him have grown , he leaves for work but before she gets a chance to explain, he asks her to wait for him till he gets back . He gets injured and word gets to Rachel. Will Rachel have a chance to come clean about her past? Is Zane going to forgive her for keeping quiet? Can Rachel finally get a new beginning after all she's been through?
This was a wonderful story about second chances and trust. Rachel and Zane were made for each other! Caroline Clemmons writes real heartwarming stories, the kind that make you all warm inside!
