Connor Reeves ist zwar erst 14 Jahre alt, aber er ist schon jetzt ein Bodyguard. Gemeinsam mit seinem ebenfalls jugendlichen Kollegen Jason wird er nach Russland geschickt. Dort sollen die beiden Jungen den Sohn eines Millionärs und Politikers beschützen, der eine Menge Feinde hat. Unter anderem sind die russische Mafia und der russische Geheimdienst daran interessiert, Vater und Sohn einzuschüchtern bzw. sogar zu eliminieren. Kein einfacher Job für Connor und Jason!
Mein Leseeindruck:
Dieses Buch ist bereits Band 5 einer Reihe. Man kann allerdings trotzdem Spaß am Lesen haben, ohne die Vorgängerbücher zu kennen. Ich habe bisher auch kein anderes Buch der Reihe gelesen und konnte der Story trotzdem sehr gut folgen.
Der Schreibstil ist jugendlich einfach und sehr angenehm. Die Kapitel sind relativ kurz, so dass man das Gefühl hat, recht schnell voranzukommen mit dem Lesen.
Die Geschichte ist natürlich sehr actionreich und spannend, allerdings hatte ich immer wieder Schwierigkeiten mit dem Alter der Protagonisten. 14 Jahre - das ist noch sehr jung, und manchmal kam mir besonders Connor viel zu reif für sein eigentliches Alter vor.
Dann wiederum gab es auch Szenen, bei denen ich mich fragte, wie man als Bodyguard und auch als von Killern verfolgt so leichtsinnig hat handeln können!? Das war für mich nicht immer nachvollziehbar oder schlüssig.
Trotzdem hatte ich Spaß an dieser Geschichte bzw. mit diesem Buch. Es hat mir schöne Lesestunden geschenkt und ich bin auch neugierig geworden auf die weiteren Bücher dieser Reihe.

Have you ever been invested in a series and despite its flaws you’re willing to give it a chance in hope that it will get better... then you found a book in the series that soooo disappointing that you end up dropping the series as a whole? Well that's what Assassin (Bodyguard #5) did to me. Wasted potential, forced romance, poorly written characters and as whole just being meh has ruined this book and series for me and I can now guarantee that I will be no longer reading this series and honestly I regret not doing so sooner.
Now, before I being the review I think a bit of context is needed, just so you can have an idea of what position am in, your cool good. Now I really like Young Samurai, it told an interesting coming of age story about a boy becoming a samurai. Side characters were interesting and memorable and left an impact on me, plus it ended on a great note. So when I discovered Chris Bradford was writing another book I was interested. I read the first book of the series (Hostage) and while it wasn't as good as Young Samurai it had its merits and I was confident it could get better... it didn't and this book is the last chance am giving. Now to be honest this book has a lot of the problems that all bodyguard books have, so I will practically making a complaint about the whole series when reviewing this book.
SPOLIERS !!!
Firstly, the main problem with this book are the characters or to be more specific the side characters. Bradford has shown time and time again that he can make interesting side characters, however he seems to have lost it. This may be due to the fact that everything seems to revolve around Corner most of the missions are solo so there are no opportunities to see the characters in action, see how they react to danger, see them grow and face hardships. And when another character does go with Corner we only get a simple backstory. To put it simply their nothing but archetypes. This is an issue I have with Jason his simply not interesting just the typical rival character, but to his credit he at least made the mission much more interesting, why you ask? Simple, Corner as a main character is not interesting he doesn’t gain any interesting character development (besides getting stronger) and his pretty generic his simply the typical good boy that will always do the right thing. Another character I have a problem with is with Felix, his two dimensional at best and straight up unlikable; all he does is complain showing no gratitude what’s so ever.
Secondly, this story was wasted potential what could have been a thrilling a morally grey story about politics, corruption and revenge, was simply turned into an action fantasy with a cliché story, and it’s shown by how Bradford handle the character of the Ana). Now in the story we find out that she’s a hired assassin, she trained to be an assassin because Felix’s father killed her family. Now this could have been great opportunity to explore interesting themes, so what’s the problem? Well, after she kills her father murderer she suddenly feels empty and regrets it. This is BS, am sorry but when you’ve spent years and years training and are focused on revenge, you do not suddenly regret it or feel “empty”. This was ten years you don’t get over it just like that especially if you’ve been trained as a REBEL FIGHTER!!! I would understand if she regret as time when on but not in an INSTANT! To be honest Bradford could have spent more time trying to flesh her out instead of killing of at the end for the “feels”. I would have honestly had her be the main character honestly she was far more interesting the most of the characters in the book OR the whole franchise for that matter, in fact I was actually rooting for her to win.
Chris Bradford in my opinion really has strong opinions towards Russian and it’s really evident in the book. The amount of times the Bradford hits you over the head of how bad Russia is ridiculous almost offensive (and am not even Russian). The corruption is not handle very well, as the government seems like a villain rather than a corrupt but ordinary government. The book rarely goes into and it’s a real shame. Not only that but Corner simply remains the good guy all throughout the book (with zero character development) he even offers the Russian girl a chance to enter the Buddyguard organisation and shots he the person he was supposed to protect because of her. Everything, else in the book was just meh the stakes simply get lower and lower because teenage boys keep surviving life threating injuries for the plot.
And screw the romance in this book seriously, the romance between Jason and Ling was not only underdeveloped but came out of nowhere they seem more like friends rather than a couple, heck Jason in my opinion had a far deeper relationship with Ana (The Russian Girl) than with Ling. Plus, what was the put in developing a romance between Jason and Ana if it wouldn’t matter in the long run anyway. This is a problem with all the books he teases romance but we know it’s pointless in the end, Bodyguard Ambush being the worst offender.
Overall, I was disappointed with this book; it went by really fasted and failed to leave an impression on me. So am out this is the last Bodyguard book I will be reading. Anyways, let me know your thoughts in the comments and sorry for any spelling mistakes. Feedback is welcomed, am out.

Na een tussenmaatje met Charley is het weer tijd om te kijken hoe het met Connor gaat. In dit boek wordt hij op pad gestuurd naar Rusland. Je wordt soms nogal depressief als je leest hoe het eraan toegaat. Corruptie, doofpotoperaties, moord, en ga maar door. (En laten we wel wezen, dit gebeurt overal, je hoeft er niet voor naar Rusland te gaan.) Daarnaast zitten er nog wel wat elementen in het boek die het er niet positiever op maken. Connor en Jason, die hier met twee naar Moskou gaan, komen totaal niet overeen. Feliks, de jongen die ze moeten beschermen, is ook geen aangenaam personage. Dan zitten er nog een paar pestende bullebakken in het boek. Van de volwassenen kun je helemaal niemand vertrouwen.
Zo'n beetje het enige lichtpuntje in de duisternis is Anastasia, die mee op de cover staat. Zij zorgt voor positieve elementen in het boek. Helaas: het einde van het verhaal maakt daar ook weer een einde aan.
Al bij al is het zeker een spannend verhaal, maar helaas zitten er redelijk weinig onverwachte stukken in het boek. Ik zag alles al van lang op voorhand aankomen. Alleen de wisselwerking tussen Connor en Mr. Grey, die terug van de partij is, valt nog echt op. Greys invloed op de hele reeks maakt het hier echt interessant en schept verwachtingen voor het volgende boek.
Nog een negatief punt: onderhand weten we wel dat de Buddyguards de 'laatste kring van de verdediging' zijn (of hoe ze het ook juist vertaald hebben). Dat je bepaalde dingen herhaalt, oké, maar na vijf boeken hebben we dit al wel een keer of twintig gehoord. We hebben het ondertussen wel begrepen, bedankt.
Zitten er nog goede elementen in, buiten Connor en Anastasia en dat het vol actie zit? Het feit dat je alles kunt raden maakt het wel iets minder goed, maar gelukkig maakt het op zich niet veel uit. Je krijgt nog steeds wel een degelijk verhaal à la Alex Rider of zo voorgeschoteld. Maar het moet gezegd worden: dit verhaal steekt helaas maar bleekjes af tegenover de vorige boeken.

book five of connor mentioning that he thinks buddyguard is problematic but not acting on it in the slightest because that would mean the series is over. Also book five of waiting for bradford to finally do charley justice and give her a personality.

Connor and Jason are assigned to protect Feliks Malkov, son of a Russian politician who is try to take down the Russian Mafia. They plan to pose as cousins to Feliks in order to attend school with him and be close to him at home. Both Connor and Jason find it difficult to protect their principal due to his stubborn selfish nature, but soon find compassion when they see how much Feliks is bullied by others in his class. One student who takes a liking to Feliks is Anastasia who is a beautiful new student on a music scholarship at the school. Predictably, Connor and Jason butt heads, but it isn't long before they have to work together if they are going to survive, especially with the return of the mysterious Mr. Grey.
Assassin is the fifth book in the original Bodyguard series and continues the story of Connor who is following in his father's footsteps as a bodyguard in order to provide for his grandmother and ailing mother. The story is filled with action and adventure in a corrupt Russia. Since these characters were introduced in previous books, little character development is needed, but Connor and Jason do learn lessons about working together and relying on one another. The only drawback in this book is that the ending falls back on a cliche, but overall, Assassin successfully continues the dynamic Bodyguard series.

I was this 👌 close to giving it 4 stars until the ending, honestly. great book, Chris never ceases to impress!! can't wait for fugitive, til next year 😩

This was hands down the most action packed book of the series. I read this book in one day. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

Handlung:Als Connor Reeves den Auftrag erhält, den Sohn eines millionenschweren Oligarchen vor einem möglichen Anschlag der russischen Mafia zu schützen, ahnt er nicht mal ansatzweise, auf was er sich da einlässt. Denn neben der Mafia ist noch eine Geheimorganisation hinter der Familie des Oppositionspolitikers her, alle staatlichen Stellen sind korrupt und jeder scheint sein eigenes skrupelloses Spiel um die Macht im Land zu spielen. Connor wird langsam klar, dass er sich in Russland auf dem weltweit gefährlichsten Terrain für Personenschützer befindet. Dort können Jugendliche nämlich nicht nur Bodyguards werden, sondern ebensoleicht Auftragskiller …
Orte: Die Geschichte spielt irgendwo in Russland und ich fand alles sehr gut beschrieben. Ich konnte mir die eisigen Tage und großen Gebäude wirklich gut vorstellen.
Personen:Ich mochte die Personen sehr gerne und sie sind mir im Laufe des Buches auch ans herz gewachsen. Und es wurde auch nie langweilig, um die Personen herum, weil sich oft etwas Unerahntes aufgedeckt hat und viele Personen in ein neues Licht gestellt wurden. Die Personen hatten alle ihren eigenen Charakter und auch einen spannenden Hintergrund.
Gestaltung: Mich hat das Cover wirklich angesprochen und es passt ja auch wirklich gut zum Buch, da zwei wichtige Personen aus dem Buch darauf abgebildet sind. Auch die Kapitelgestaltung war mit kleinen Bildchen und schönen Kapitelanfängen sehr schön gestaltet.
Schreibstil:Mit dem Schreibstil hatte ich am Anfang ein paar Probleme, doch nach den ersten zehn, zwanzig Seiten konnte ich es besser lesen. Ich mochte die Dialoge und die Beschreibungen.

Mir hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen. Ich kannte diese Reihe bis jetzt noch nicht obwohl es schon der 5. Band ist. Man kann das Buch aber sehr gut alleine lesen ohne die anderen Teile vorher gelesen zu haben.
Der Autor schreibt sehr flüssig und es ist sehr spannend so das ich es nicht aus den Händen legen konnte.
Die Idee das Jugendliche Bodyguards werden und richtige gefährliche Aufträge bekommen gefällt mir ich hoffe auf noch weitere Teile dieser Reihe.

Meinung: Die ersten Kapitel fingen mit Spannung und Nervenkitzel an und das ging bis zur Hälfte so. Die Hälfte war etwas lang gezogen und manche Sachen haben mich verwirrt bzw. muss ich öfters nachlesen um was es ging, was mich gestört hat.
Der Schreibstil war dafür aber flüssig und einfach zu lesen, man kam schnell voran und war entspannt zum lesen.
Die Charaktere waren recht gut dargestellt aber manche waren so nervig, oh mein Gott. Habe schon gedacht wann diese Person endlich nicht mehr im Buch auftaucht. Aber im Enddefekt waren alle Charaktere doch durchschaubar.
Eigentlich war Handlung gar nicht so schlecht zumindest hat sich alles realistisch angehört und könnte so etwas wie ein Kopfkino abspielen lassen.
Manche Situationen habe ich selbst erlebt, manche konnte ich echt fühlen und manche waren nur im Buch möglich.
Das Ende war überraschend bzw. kurz vorm Ende, die letzten 50 Seiten hatten es nochmal in sich. Action pur voller Nervenkitzel und voller Spannung!
Fazit: Ich empfehle es jedem! Zwar fand ich es etwas eintönig und langgezogen aber die Handlung dahinter fand ich relativ gut und auch realistisch. Das Buch würde ich auch jeden fall nochmal lesen und eventuell andere Eindrücke sammeln.

Besser als der dritte Band! Definitiv.
Der Schreibstil hat mir auf jeden Fall besser gefallen, und besonders nah gegangen ist mir die schlussendliche Verbindung zwischen Connor und Jason.
Ich konnte mich kaum von dem Buch trennen und bin froh, dass auch die Story in sich selbst stimmig war.
Allerdings entwickle ich eine große Abneigung gegenüber Colonel Black; kaum ist Connor aus Burundi zurück, muss er gleich darauf mach Russland. Er hat sich noch nicht mal vollständig erholt und sein Antrag auf eine Pause wurde auch mehr oder weniger ignoriert. Jetzt, nach Russland, sofort nach Mexiko. Und dass so wenig Informationen zur jetzigen Mission vorlagen, hat mir überhaupt nicht geschmeckt.

Very interesting concept and takes place in a very dystopian version of Russia, where most high-profile figures and celebrities are under constant threat of assassination by the mafia-gang, and the supposed "final ring of protection" of the Buddyguards. I have not finished the book yet, although I have already seized knowledge of the context of the book in under a few dozen pages (especially because this book is the 5th of its series), can't wait to see what happens in the next few chapters!

Very, very, very good book. My heart pumped my adrenaline sky rocketed and my soul left my body. This book hooked me in and damn I never stopped wanting to read more. I highly recommend reading the series prior to this book before this. I was invested in to this book so much that I imagined myself in the moment. The hate I grew for Jason then the administration I later felt for Jason is like non other. If you don’t read this series are you even good?!?!?

Bradford has done it again; this time with more peril and intense action. After the prequel of book 4, it was good to see a new story within the normal timeline that broke free of the initial tension-building of the first three installments. Readers will see vast advances in ongoing mysteries as well as higher stakes for the characters. Waiting for the next book is going to be challenging.

I WAS SO SAD WHEN JASON "DIED" THEN HE CAME BACK TO LIFE!!!! THIS IS ONE OF MY LEAST FAVOURITE TROPES IN THE WHOLE WORLD
Disclaimer: I was also glad he survived it just would have been better if he had never been thought to be dead in the first place.
Also I abosolutely loved the book and everyone should read it.

Brilliant
Assassin is the 5tg and best book so far. Chris Bradford is an exceptional writer and this book had me up reading late into the night. Full of excitement and action throughout the entire book. Love it !!!!!!

Overall, it was quite an enjoyable read. However, there are certain aspects, such as the secret organisation Mr. Grey works for (it is really that forgettable) that have not really been fleshed out well over the course of the series.

Auch der 5. Teil der Reihe konnte mich mal wieder begeistern. Ein jugendlicher einfacher Schreibstil, der sich flott lesen lässt.

Probably the most thrilling one but since its the fifth of the series I was pretty used to the way things were gonna come up and be solved and all so I basically sort of predicted what was gonna come my way but it was still completely loaded with action and Drama, just loved it

Definetly a good 5th book to the Series, i like the different perspectives and the thing with Roman Gurow, i thought the whole time he was talking with Mr. Grey but the ending... Also its tragic what happened to Nadia, she would have been for sure a good addition to Buddyguard.

Excellent book for teenagers. Once again Chris Bradford has managed to take the child spy genre out of fantasy and into a more realistic setting. Highly recommended.

Was a good read, but it felt a bit obvious to me that the girl was the girl whose parents got killed in the beginning. Also Jason surviving was total bullshit. Hopefully next book will be better

I really liked this book. Because it shows real techniques used by close protection officers and the plot was very well developed form the danger in the beginning to the twist in the end. Great read
