He could work miracles with His Hands
Lance Bartner loved working with his hands, made his living refinishing furniture. Nights out were for fun with friends and the occasional hook-up. Though the L word had never been spoken, he would have enjoyed a relationship had the right man crossed his path. But who would want a laborer like Lance? He wasn't college educated, didn't live in a fancy loft condo, didn't drive a Lexus, and didn't even own a suit.
Forrest Dentren, was an architect and city planner who had become a local name when his design for the Monroe City Center was chosen as one of the top three contenders. Well educated, extremely well built, and as both men and women put it, just plain hot. Some said he was married to his job, others said he was too picky, many said he didn't want to share the spotlight.
One hot, uninhibited sex-filled night
When Forrest broke his routine and went clubbing on a weeknight, he spotted Lance. The attraction was immediate from both sides of the dance floor. They both felt it. A few drinks later, still feeling it, they left for Lance's apartment.
It was never supposed to turn into anything more than one hot fuck<
Two people from opposite ends of the world, no roadmap, not directions, no ideas how to make it work!
Architect Of Love is a hot and steamy, gay romance novel with no cliffhangers. It is the second book in The Fated Soulmates series and can be read as a standalone.
When asked why he writes under a pseudonym, he explains it this way, "My birth name was John Charles, but shortly after I was brought home, my parents changed it to Larry. I never got the real reason and I still have that original birth certificate." When he decided to write and publish, he chose to use his birth name - John Charles.
As a youngster, he had trouble reading. While in college, he learned that he had a form of dyslexia. When he was taught how to overcome the issues it caused, a new world opened for him. He now reads constantly.
John loves to read M/M mystery romance as well as action / adventure novels. He can be found with his Kindle or iPad in his hands most of the time.
He spent years in the technology industry and found himself immersed in writing marketing brochures, and technical and operations manuals. Writing fiction was not his lifelong dream, but emerged after his youngest went off to college. The writing bug stuck and now he writes every day.
Being single and living at the beach in southern Delaware has its benefits, too. You can frequently find him walking along the water's edge before the rest of the tourists and vacationers have awakened. He says that the secluded beach time is most precious.
The plots in his novels come from real life situations. "I have always believed that real life is more interesting than anything a person could make up. I listen, keep my eyes open, and let the world give me the ideas that make my stories believable and interesting."
"I find myself enjoying writing more than anything I've ever done in my life."
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:
Rating: 3 stars out of 5
This was my first book by John Charles and I don’t think his writing is for me. I liked the basis for this story, but didn’t enjoy the execution. I did read this without reading the first book, but didn’t feel like there was anything I was missing. Lance has some of the lowest self esteem I have ever seen and even his mom supports that in her own way, while Forrest has always been fully supported in everything he does.
Even though we see both characters points of view and emotions I had trouble connecting with them. We are given all the background of these characters almost immediately after meeting them and it feels like it’s just listed out to me. I could feel how insecure Lance is, but didn’t see anyone willing to show him that he is worth more. Forrest pretty much gives him an ultimatum that he has to get over his insecurities and doesn’t seem willing to compromise anything in his life. I was happy to see them together in the end, but never really saw them grow their relationship before it jumped to the last chapter.
I know my review seems pretty critical for giving it 3 stars, but I know a bunch of the things I didn’t like are just about the way the book is written, but not the actual story. Because of that I was just frustrated throughout the rest of the reading. I’m not sure I will read any more stories by this author.
Cover art is nice and pretty typical of many books, but also follows the pattern for the series.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Lance works restoring antique furniture and Forrest is an architect. Their relationship starts out as a very hot hook up but a chance meeting has them deciding to get to know each other better. When Lance discovers that Forrest is the head of a firm that is in the public eye it causes problems.
I really like reading romance books staring regular guys and Lance and Forrest are, even through Forrest's job means he is at times a public figure. I liked our heroes. There is an honesty to them and their relationship that felt real. The steamy scenes were good and the amount of them was in proportion so they didn't take over the story or get boring and repetitive .
That said, there were a few things I didn't like. The writing needs a really good polish. The story has too much tell for me and not enough show which made it hard to get any deep connection with the story. Finally the ending seemed quite abrupt.
Overall I enjoyed Architect of Love. Will I read the rest of this series? I think I might. I don't need every book I read to be 5 stars and I enjoy having a series to read that is easy reading and just for enjoyment.
What an adorable second chance at love story! Both aren't the other's "type" but they click and their fate is met! Architect of Love is book two in the Fated Soulmates series by John Charles and can be read as a standalone!
Lance is a furniture restorer and is excellent at his craft. Forrest is an architect and is carving a name for himself as well. After one night meeting in a bar, they have a one night stand. Even though they agreed to one night, both want so much more, but no numbers were exchanged. When another chance meeting occurs, they take it for the sign that it is.
I liked that these two were just normal guys with normal insecurities. Neither knew how they could fit in the other's life, but knew they had to try. Connections like these do not happen often. They felt real and very believable! My only complaint is that the ending seemed abrupt! I wanted more from these two!!
4 stars/3.5 flames
I was gifted this book by the Jeep Diva for the purpose of an honest review. The rating and review are solely my opinion.
I’ve thought long and hard about how I was going to write this review. I want to be diplomatic because there were some good parts about Architect of Love. Don’t get me wrong. However, there were parts I had a difficult time with, and unfortunately, I didn’t find myself connecting to the story.
I loved Forrest. Yes, he was extremely busy, so he wasn’t the most warm and fuzzy guy, but when he met Lance and eventually got to know him, he wanted to be with him. He fell hard and fast. I thought he was sweet, and the fact that Lance is a laborer who works with his hands didn’t bother Forrest at all. He saw the person behind the job, and he really wanted to make the relationship work.
Architect of Love (Fated Soulmates, #2) by John Charles 3 stars M/M Romance I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Hmmm, this is the only book I've read in this series. Lance and Forrest are an odd couple, but only in the sense that they each have insecurities that come out very early on in their dating life.
It's a short story that doesn't really develop much. Forrest is very successful - he's in the public eye and because of that, he might lose Lance, because Lance doesn't know how he can compete...Lance is successful at restoration and feels that because he didn't have the typical background of college, etc., that he should just be with someone who is "just like him".
It's an old storyline that isn't really re-made here. Overall, this was just OK.
John Charles is a new author to me and while I did enjoy this story, I felt a little disconnected with the main characters. The majority of the story revolves around Forrest, his architectural company and the local politics that he gets involved in. Lance restores furniture and the bulk of his business comes from helping his mother at estate sales. They meet at a local gay bar and the chemistry ignites between them. They have a steamy one-nighter and part ways as neither are the others type. They meet again at an estate sale that Forrest attends to purchase a hutch and discovers Lance can restore it for him. They begin a series of dates and a few hot nights of combustible sex, but this is where I felt a little disconnected with them. The sex was steamy and hot, and they did have some things in common, but I had a hard time believing that Forrest was falling hard for Lance. Too much of the story was about Forrest's problems with the politics surrounding his work that I just didn't feel their connection as lovers. When Lance gets a glimpse of the "celebrity" part of Forrest's life, he cannot handle it and says goodbye to Forrest. Forrest is sad and cannot stop thinking of Lance.
He stood there, alone with his hurt for several minutes, hoping against hope that the man he was falling in love with would come back to him. He didn't.
Lance, meanwhile, hooks up with a past lover, Dale, and has hot as hell sex. This didn't sit well with me as the intense sexual chemistry between Dale and Lance was way more off the charts than it was for Forrest and Lance. But Lance didn't feel comfortable and decided to give Forrest another chance. The rest of the story revolves around the local politics and with Forrest and Lance finally realizing their love and it ends with a nice Happy For Now.
The author wrote a very well written story with well developed characters and interesting premise. Although I didn't love this story, I will look for more in the rest of the Fated Soulmates series.
✨✨✨✨ I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book ✨✨✨✨
This would be my first read by John Charles I liked it I'm such a huge fan of M/M reads and this was a good one . Both Forrest and Lance were interesting characters even though they were completely different characteristics with physically and in social standing but they had this intense attraction for each other no matter how different they were from each other . The sexy times were off the charts steamy hot . I would definitely read more from this author copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero = 10 hero = 10 secondary characters = 9 chemistry = 10 steam = 10 character development = 10 pacing = 10 pov= dual cover = hot author = new to me but will be reading more from
Loved it!! I've reviewed this for United Indie Book Blog. This is the first book I read from John Charles. Forrest is an architect, rich, hot, and a local celebrity. Lance is a handy man of sorts. This is a beautiful and loving story. I couldn't put down the book until the end. Then I wanted more of them. This is a quick, easy read. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading MM books. I can't wait to read another wonderful book from this author. Keep up the awesome work.
Architect of Love has a good story. Two people different lifestyles coming together. And how they can learn to live in each other's lives. Did I enjoy it? Yes, but I did lose my train of thought a couple of times. A couple of times I got lost and would have to read back over it and it was a little confusing as to whom was speaking. I did like the characters and story. And would read something else by this author. Give it a try and see for yourself.
This is my review of Architect of Love, by John Charles, from my M/M Romance Books Blog, OJ He Say. Click the link below to see the whole review and more.
You know, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading Architect of Love as I’d never read a John Charles book, however the blurb called out to me, so what the heck. Right? What I got was a really hot and enjoyable book that caught be flat footed.
Lance and Forrest’s story is truly a gay romance novel of two disparate men that find each other and that I found myself cheering for. Well worth it and just in time for the holidays.
THE CHARACTERS
Forrest Dentren:
“The tall blond kicked the door closed with his foot as he pinned the shorter, more muscular man against the wall. One hand held the shorter man's hands above his head, the other a handful of his shirt.
"Lance is a pretty name for such a muscular guy. Why'd your mother name you that?" His face was mere inches from Lance's. They breathed the same air as they stared into the other man's eyes.”
Forrest Dentren, is a successful architect that’s starting to make a name and reputation for himself and his company. A dedicated workaholic, he only allows himself two nights a week for his fun: Friday and Saturday nights, as he can stay out late and not have his fun interfere with his work. On a whim, he goes out on a weeknight and meets Forrest Dentren.
Lance Bartner:
“Suddenly as if on attack, Lance twisted in the taller man's arms. He forced Forrest around and pressed him against the wall where his back had lain seconds prior. "How does it feel now?" he whispered unable to voice anything louder. "You want more? Can you handle it or are the trees too big, Forrest?"
Forrest could feel Lance's long, calloused fingers holding his wrists. Short, muscular legs stood outside his encasing him. The hand pushing against his chest caused his heartbeat to sound and feel harder and louder. It was his turn to hyperventilate. "I can take anything you throw at me. Care to try something else or is this all you've got?"”
Hot, sexy, muscular, furry Lance Bartner is a blue-collar guy, a successful furniture restorer and refinisher. A man that’s used to working with his hands. When he meets Forrest at the local watering hole an unexpected spark is ignited. Unexpected because Forrest is not his usual type. At all.
THE STORY
This is truly a gay MM Romance book. It’s a love story of two men, completely different characters, different physically and in social standing, that have a magnetic attraction for each other. It’s on how they handle these differences, and accept each other that forms this very enjoyable read.
Forrest is starting to hit the big time with his career and his company, coming in a close second in the city’s contest for a new city center. He’s just starting to hit the limelight when he meets Lance. Lance isn’t used to the limelight, he’s more used to his regular blue-collar friends and life, so it is his angst towards a future with Forrest the forms the dynamic for the story, and what a fun to read story this is.
THE WRITING
This is solid, well executed writing that’s been very well edited. The sex scenes in this book are off the scale, intensely hot and the character development is spot on. The writing flows smoothly. The reader doesn’t experience any WTF double takes and the characters deliver at the precisely correct time. Well done. I look forward to the next book by this author.

Architect of Love is Book 2 in the Fated Soulmates series by John Charles. I did glance at Book 1, which you can get free from the author, but I did not read it as it didn't seem to be connected to this one. This was the first time I've read anything from this author.
This book starts with a hook-up between Forrest and Lance who met at a club. The two characters seem to be more focused on what is their type and isn't and less on the attraction they have to each other. They enjoyed their time together but don't exchange any information. The next day, Lance is working with his mother at an estate sale when he's asked to speak with a customer about refurbishing an item he bought. Lance is surprised to find that customer is Forrest. Even though they are not each other's type, they decide to explore more of each other. Lance works as a restorer and Forrest is an architect. This causes a lot of conflict throughout the book.
I work in local government where I work with three counties and four cities and it's not often that a book involves this subject so I was looking forward to this part. All mentions in this book regarding the local government, local mayor, building of a jail are inaccurate, per my experience. Just a few things I made note of: There are no secret votes, city council voting is a matter of public record; Planning Commissions determine the zoning of areas and work with city planners to work the layout of a city. Developers buy property and submit their plans to the Planning Commission who then either accept the development or make recommendations for changes to the development. They must approve a development before it moves onto City Council. If a new police station is needed, the local government (city or county) would publish in the local paper, on websites, etc, a notice for bid and would list in the advertisement the requirements for the new jail. Then people interested in building would submit bids which would then be opened at a public meeting. The bidder that meets the qualifications and comes in under the set bid amount, will be awarded the contract. A random company would not just be selected to build a police station.
This book is written in both MC's POV and it seemed to switch, sometimes mid-paragraph, so that made it a little difficult to keep up with who was saying what. And for those that would be bothered, one of the MC's does have sex with someone else (not cheating). This doesn't always bother me, depending on the context, but I know there are readers who feel very strongly about this, so you've been forewarned.
What do you do when you feel like the person you are falling for is more important than you are? When you feel like you cannot stand beside them and bring anything to the relationship other than yourself? When you feel like less of a person because of their status, wealth, and how famous they are and still becoming? That is the issues that Lance is facing when it comes to Forrest.
When these two men met it was for a casual hook up. Neither knew who the other was because they ran in different circles and had different types of jobs that never crossed paths. They had an amazing night together and when Forrest left later that night they did not exchange any sort of info.
Both men knew they enjoyed each other's company and would not mind doing it again but with not having a plan to do so they left it as it was. Or at least they did until they ran into each other again at an estate sale that Forrest was shopping at and Lance was working at.
Once they came into each other's lives again they decided to see where things would go and started to get to know each other better. Things was going good until Lance found out just how wealthy and prestigious Forrest is and decided that he was not good enough for Forrest and walked away.
It hurt both men when Lance walked away and they both did what they felt necessary to move on with their lives and forget the other man but love does not care about money, prestige, or social standings. The heart wants what the heart wants and Lance had to decide if he was going to follow his heart and try to win back the man he was falling in love with or if he was going to listen to his head and walk away because he had nothing to offer him.
This was a good book about how being insecure can destroy what may be the best things in your life. I think Lance had to realize hat money was not everything and that just because he was not as rich and famous as Forrest, that did not mean he was less important. It was not any easy journey for Lance to come to conclusion on whether loving someone who has more than him was worth it or not and it was not easy for Forrest to trust that Lance would not walk away again. I love that John Charles made sure to have both sides of how the men felt and that he showed how they had the struggle they did and not just a happily ever after once they met. It made the book more believable. Look forward to the next book in this series.
Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review
Well, I don’t often read novellas, as I find they just don’t go into enough depth to let me really get a feel for the characters and story. A few authors can do it and I’ve mostly found them in the M/M romance genre ? Dunno why..there’s no reason why these should be any different than general romance .
Anyway I’d read John’s free book, ( links on his website) so I knew I liked his style of writing and agreed to review this one. I really enjoyed it even though its short – 1420 kindle locations, that usually works out at about 120-130 ish pages. Its got characters I felt I could know, that felt real, from Lance and Forrest to Lance’s mum and his friend Dale, Forrest’s friend Rachelle and his employees, who treated him as a friend as much as a boss. I need to feel characters and situations could be real to enjoy a story.
The plot too was realistic, with Lance being a furniture restorer and helping his mum in her estate sale business, and Forrest having worked his way up from nothing, to a very respected and well known architect with his own firm.
I understood in a way how Lance felt, its hard when you see such material differences between you and the person you love, and yet as Forrest tried to convince him that didn’t matter, it was only a part of him, he’s come from the same background as Lance and they had so many other things in common. I really felt the emotion in them both and poor Forrest – what could he do? He shouldn’t change because Lance couldn't deal, that would have made him resentful and yet how else could he repair things? Alongside that there’s issues with Forrest's work, with the firm growing rapidly, winning new contracts outside their current experience, and feeling a backlash as a result of one close to home. A real tough time for Forrest. I did feel angry at Lance for his pig-headedness, but we feel as we do inside, logic doesn’t always come into it. I wasn’t so happy about the Dale issue....but that's me :-) and it did provide that extra barrier to get past.
Its a fun read, a good story, realistic with characters I could get behind, and a sensible mix of story v sex. Too often novellas focus on sex and the story is just backup, and that's what many readers want – but for me it needs to be as this one is, story first and sex second.
Stars: Four, a great read with realistic storyline.
This is a steamy and yet also endearingly sweet romance. It’s pretty low on angst or drama, though there’s a little bit of tension between the main characters. It’s also both a slow-burn and not. It starts off with an intense, hot encounter between the Lance and Forrest, which they repeat. In between, they make a go of a romance. Their fumblings are realistic, and I alternated between being amused and face-palming at their awkward path toward a relationship.
I’ll admit, this isn’t usually the sort of book I’d have picked up. It’s a cross between fluff and erotica, neither of which are my cup of tea. However, I ended up enjoying the story for what it was—a terrific entry in its genre. I loved both Lance and Forrest as characters. They’re the sort of people I would want to know in real life. And huge thanks to the author for creating women side characters who are also worth reading about.
If you’re looking for something with a lot of depth, a literary feel, or delving into modern social issues, this is not the book. While it does touch a little bit on class difference, and that’s the main source of tension between Lance and Forrest, it doesn’t go very far with that line. It’s resolved pretty easily by the end. I ended up thinking Forrest was a bit unfair toward Lance about it, failing to understand his point of view.
Although I felt a whole lot of chemistry between Lance and Forrest, I actually ended up liking Lance’s occasional friend-with-benefits, Dale, even better. I’m a fairly open-minded sort, and I’d have loved to see the three of them make that work, whether as a triad or Lance having two partners (or simply keeping his FWB relationship with Dale, who was paired off as well). I certainly hope we get to see more of Dale in a future installment because he was my favorite character.
All in all, I ended up enjoying this in spite of it being outside my usual taste. I like the author’s writing style, and I would definitely give his other books a shot.
For a sexy good time, characters to love, and a good combination of sweet and spicy, this gets 4 stars.
**I elected to read a free copy in exchange for an honest review**
I haven’t read anything by this author before, but if this book is any indication of how others go, I will be rectifying that soon. This is an easy read with a little drama. It says M/M love at first, I would think lust at first sight. The premise is promising and thoroughly enjoyed this read from beginning to end. This book is part of series, however, I was not lost in reading this and was able to follow it along perfectly.
This book starts off with a bang. No pun intended. Forrest and Lance are both at a gay bar called The Hole, then leave together. The passion and lust ignites between the. They enjoy a night together without exchanging numbers.
Lance Bartner is a woodworker, and restores old antique furniture, as well as, helping his mother at estate sales. That is where most of his business comes from. Then you have Forrest Dentren who is an architect and loves building things. The are both passionate about what they do, and are stand up normal guys. Lance also likes to keep a low profile. So when Lance is helping his mother at an estate sale, he doesn’t expect to see Forrest there. They finally exchange numbers as well as Forrest asking Lance to restore the hutch he purchased there. Forrest has made a name for himself and is now in the limelight because of a local competition he made a bid on as well as the political arena.
Now I said a little drama. There was some with Lance. He has no qualms about who he is, though he does with Forrest as Forrest has become somewhat famous. He feels he isn’t right for Forrest. From there I love watching it grow and spiral at the same time. These men felt real to me and formed an attachment as was rooting for the, I did even when Lance made a bad choice. Actually, I wanted to hit him.
The secondary people are great, but I do have to questions Lance’s mother. The ending was a bit rushed for me, it felt really abrupt. I was expecting more. Other than that there are just a couple of wrong names. This is an ARC so that was likely fixed.
If you are looking for a quick read that is M/M, then Architect of Love by John Charles might be the book you are looking for. It was quick with a HEA, and overall it was a sweet story, but it did have some issues.
Forrest and Lance met at a gay nightclub and hit it off. They immediately went back to Lance's place and proceeded to get to know each other better. It was only supposed to be a one night stand, but sometimes, you find something unexpected in the oddest of places. Now if only Lance can get over what he feels is the space between them.
I liked the overall story. It tackled issues of having to deal with a career and a relationship, as well as what happens when on person feels unequal to their partner, and I liked the chemistry between Lance and Forrest. That said, there were some issues as well. It was rushed, at one point it went from 3rd person to first person and then back again, and there were a few phrases that didn't make much sense to me...things I couldn't quite picture in my head.
The relationship between the two main characters was good, as was their relationship between them and their best friends and family. And while there isn't cheating per se in this book, there is something that some people may not like. I didn't have a problem with it though. My issue that Forrest's best friend calls Lance's mother, and then nothing is ever done or said further about it. It seemed unnecessary. In addition, some of the details about Forrest's business seem off from what I know about city planning.
Overall the story was good and enjoyable, but there are issues with the book. Even with that, I still recommend it for a quick read and a sweet type of relationship. 3.5 stars.
Original review Molly Lolly Three stars! I was very excited to read this story when I heard about it. However it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be. Lance and Forrest weren’t as developed as they could have been. Their relationship progressed a little awkwardly at times. I questioned if they were truly going to make it or were even right for each other. The obstacle they had to overcome was a valid fear of Lance’s but it was handled in way that made it seem like he was overreacting and being a diva. If Lance and Forrest had talked when things went down, they would have had a stronger bond. The time they spent apart took up a larger portion of the book than I expected. The ending wound up being rushed and a little forced since there wasn’t as much time spent on building that connect between Lance and Forrest. As a general rule I’m not concerned if a character has sex with someone other than who he winds up with. Especially if it’s during a time they’re not together. But in this story the sex with someone else didn’t further the plot in any way. It was sex for sex’s sake. Granted it was hot sex. But I would have preferred those scenes removed and that word space used to work on Lance and Forrest. I actually liked the storyline with Forrest’s architect firm. It was fascinating seeing how he interacted with his employees and handled the business. He treated the people that worked for him like family.
This is my first book from John Charles and while I liked his quick story telling style, there wasn't much of a connection with these characters for me.
We have Forrest and Lance, each running thier own vastly different, successful businesses. They meet and quickly parlay it into a one night stand, however each feels they want a little more when it's all said and done. However, Forrest is a busy man, so the one night stand seems to have worked out better for him in the past. While Lance is a guy that's more insecure and pretty much lets Forrest treat him like crap.
I think that's when I checked out of this story. Lance was a furniture restorer, a great one, yet always felt less than Forrest, who was a city planner, not a rockstar, as he seems to think he is. Too much was made of Forrest's job being so high and mighty. It didn't work in my mind how people were stopping him of the street acting like he was some sort of celebrity.
At one point Lance and Forrest of course couldn't make it work because Forrest was just too busy, so Lance kind of sort of moved on (good for him) and I actually liked this other guy way better than Forrest.
The book is well written, but didn't keep my interest. I liked a lot of story packed into a few pages, however felt like there was too much focus on Forrest and his job rather than the budding relationship between the two men.
I try to not give out anything less than 3-stars, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. Architect of Love has potential, it just needs work.
Lance and Forrest come from two different worlds, but in all honesty, I didn't see too much of a social gap between them. Yes, they had two different professions. Yes, they both found themselves too busy for the other, but their dynamic seemed solid throughout the whole story.
Lance refurnished and repaired antique furniture. Forrest was an up and coming architect. Both of them wanted to find love. Neither one of them expected to find it in another.
The story-line moved way too fast for me. I felt like the characters didn't get the chance to grow, there wasn't any meat to the bones of this book. There were some interesting points that could have played out really well had we seen them. Unfortunately they were just brushed under the rug.
I think, if re-worked Architect of Love could become a great book. I wish there was more character development, more story, just more.
It's not terrible, it's just lacking.
I liked the relationship that Lance and Forrest begin with, one-night stands to lovers stories are always one of my favorites.
I'd try other books by this author, only because I feel like this author has potential. He just needs to hone his skill in a bit.
Lance and Forrest hooked up one night, after having met at a bar, and thinking it was only one night, but both wanting more, they part ways the next day. When Forrest runs into Lance later that weekend, its a sign of good things to come. Both deciding to try this out for more, but both busy with their jobs, time together is sparse and they often find themselves talking on the phone or texting more then they are together. On one of the rare outings together Lance realizes that Forrest is too good for him, and decides that they would be better off apart. But when Lance realizes that he shouldn't have judged Forrest so quickly, will he get a chance to make things right again? Will Forrest even listen or will it be to late?
So this was a bit of a mess, IMO. The story was choppy and in some spots went super fast and in others super slow. Either too much detail or not enough. There was more about Forrest's job and Lance and Dale, than Forrest and Lance's relationship. There was more sexy time detail for Lance and the rebound then Lance and Forrest. This has a really good plot and could actually be a 5 star read with some work, but its a 3.5 for me.
Lance is a furniture restorer and an excellent one. Forrest is an Architect and making a big name for himself. Neither is the other one's type. One night Forrest is relieving stress and breaks a rule going out in the middle of the week, he meets Lance and something about him turns Forrest on. They go back to Lance's apartment for a one night stand. Neither can get the other out of his mind next week. They didn't exchange numbers. Frank is going to an estate sale to try to buy a hutch he wanted. Lance works with his mom and once again fate brings these two men together. But is it enough to keep them together?
I really liked this store. I like fated love books a lot. I liked both of these characters as well. I would have liked to get more of Lance. We got a lot of Forrest and his big project which I loved that he didn't take all of that to his head. I just want more Lance as well. This could also count as a second chance story too which I also like. If you like sexy architects, hot craftsmen, fated love, second chance, not a lot of sex but just enough to heat up a story and an all around good, sweet romance this is for you. I am looking forward to the third one.
This was my first book by this author. When I saw it floating around for review/tour dates...I thought it sounded interesting enough to give a chance. I always like finding new authors, but unfortunately, this book missed the mark for me.
This book is about two guys, Forrest and Lance. I debated on how to write this, because I don't want come across as aloof or mean. So I will tell you my thoughts on Lance first. Honestly, I didn't like him. And I think what I didn't like about him was his lack of faith in himself and his self worth. I did not like that he felt the need to push Forrest away and fall back into a regular routine with someone from his past. While He and Forrest were no exactly exclusive, I just could not get on board that train.
Forrest....I did not really develop any feeling for him. He was an overworked, odd man in my opinion.
These two come together for what is supposed to be a quick, one night stand. I felt that the relationship was kinda pushed and honestly..it jumped from POV to POV a little to much, and I did not care for that at all. And I mean multiple POV's from more than the two MC's.
Forrest is an architect, rich, hot, and a local celebrity. He is also well educated... pretty much what a perfect person might be.
Lance is a handy man of sorts. He refinishes furniture, he has little education, he is hot though! But he's pretty much the opposite of Forrest.
I related with Lance a lot because I've felt a lack of self worth before. Thinking you can't possibly be good enough for the Forrests of the world; that a one night stand is as far as anything could come of with a person of wealth and social standing.
Forrest isn't a bad guy and Lance absolutely was struggling with his own perceptions of himself in this. My heart was sad when they broke apart... but don't panic, great loves are fought over!
This novella really tells the story of two men who fall in love with each other. We see that before Lance finds out how wealthy Forrest is. Getting that hardcore love back is what the journey is all about.
This is a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to other books in this series.
Architect of Love is a M/M romance with two hot, successful businessmen. If you're looking for a quick, fun, and steamy read, you would enjoy Architect of Love. It would be great for reading on an airplane or during a short car trip.
The characters were developed and mostly likable. I really liked that they were normal, regular guys. No rock stars, no sports stars, no billionaires...just two guys. Lance refinishes furniture, and Forrest is an architect. They meet at a club, and there is an instant attraction! No numbers were exchanged, and it's just a one-night stand. Or is it?
Architect of Love's plot was fast paced and held my attention all the way to the end. Overall, Architect of Love was good, but just didn't make it to great for me. I felt like there was more story to tell, and it could have been a longer, more complete story.
This was my first book by John Charles. It is part of the Fated Soulmates series, but can easily be read as a standalone. I know I will definitely be downloading book one of this series. I look forward to more by this author.
Sought after architect and a furniture restorer. Both are good with their hands but they fall into different social classes.
Forrest is far too busy with his booming business to have a relationship until a hook-up with Lance. Lance is down to earth with a vulnerability about him. I struggled to connect with Forrest. He came across as arrogant and self-important in his time with Lance. When Lance expresses his insecurities about Forrest's high profile, there was no empathy or compromise from Forrest. Forrest is not all bad though and did demonstrate some values in his work in front of his staff - I just wish this had transferred across to his personal life, which would have helped me connect more to this book.
3.5 Stars I thought it was a good book, but I wasn't a big fan of Lance. I understood his insecurities, but a couple things he did just rubbed me wrong. I really liked Forrest. I like his personality and the way he was with Lance. Over all it's a good story and it kept me engaged.
Architect of Love had so much potential but fell flat for me. About half way through the book the POV changes from third to first and often flipped between characters without warning or obvious logic. Some of the details about the inner workings of being a big firm architect were off as well.
The love scense lacked...fire and were over quickly.
For me, this story felt rushed. I would have loved to see so much more detail. I'm giving it 3.5 stars from me.
