Emma Cane grew up reading and soon discovered that she liked to write passionate stories of teenagers in space. Her love of “passionate stories” has never gone away, although today she concentrates on the heartwarming characters of Valentine Valley, her fictional small town in the Colorado Rockies.

Now that her three children are grown, Emma loves spending time crocheting and singing (although not necessarily at the same time), and hiking and snowshoeing alongside her husband Jim and their rambunctious dog Uma.

Emma also writes USA Today bestselling historical romances under the name Gayle Callen.

This will be a shorter review, as this book was super short but it was also endearing and sweet. Now I first want to mention that this has a secret baby trope. This won't work for everyone, however, in this story what I really enjoyed about this one was the danger element. Now the heroine's life was in danger, which is why I was okay with the secret baby trope and she did have to do some work to work things out with the hero which I enjoyed. If there is a secret baby, the heroine NEEDS to do some groveling. Now it was a short grovel as its a novella but it wasn't a horrible one done. I really liked the setting of the story of them reconnecting in a cabin up in the woods that was super remote. It allowed them to work through their issues and having the heroine have time to come clean about the past. And there was some solid steam implemented as well.

I really had a fun time with this one. It was such a short fun adventure to delve into this one here. It was just so enjoyable to get into this one here. I really had a blast with it here. And definitely eager to get back to this author as I haven't read her since she went self pub although can I say she is doing good work with these covers matching what she had with a trad publisher! So Bravo to this author in writing such a wonderful novella that was a pure delight.

Secrets in Valentine Valley was a quick novella that packed quite a punch emotionally. A dangerous situation put two former lovers’ lives on the line, forcing them to try to ignore their feelings and their pain over the past eighteen months and instead focus on staying alive.

This was a novella that could easily be read as a standalone or as part of the wonderful Valentine Valley series. (A series I highly recommend to small town romance lovers!) And while it was pretty short, coming in at around eighty pages, author Emma Cane did a great job as always with setting the scene, exploring the emotions, and bringing on the romance. This being a reunion story, we found out bits of Daniel and Kristin’s history and could see how strong of a tie they had together up until she had to suddenly disappear.

This was a sweet and quick spicy novella published in 2016. This romantic suspense story was a nice filler between my favorite psychological thriller books. I enjoyed it!

"Secrets In Valentine Valley" Valentine Valley #6.5 is by author Emma Cane.
Published: November 19, 2016
My Rating: 4 Stars.

Valentine Valley is a great series featuring a diverse cast of characters and the atmosphere of small town charm. I have read all the books in the series and "Secrets" was a charming addition. While all the books in the series have charm, romance and a bit of angst, this book had a bit of a darker feel. But it was only enough to add a touch of complexity to the short length of the story.

Daniel and Kristin were a couple once. Daniel thought their relationship was going along well and he cared enough about Kristin that he could imagine a future with her. But he never got the chance to explore his growing feelings because Kristin left town. One day she was there and the next.....

Daniel had no idea why she left or where she went. She just disappeared. She was gone.

Until she came back eighteen months later. Daniel wanted answers. He was hurt and angry. But before she had the chance to explain, the reason she had to stay away followed her.

This was a very short story of romance, second chances and some suspense and angst. Secrets are revealed. Daniel is even more hurt and angry by the circumstances. Can Daniel and Kristin continue where they left off a year and a half ago? Thankfully their love for each other was strong enough to overcome Daniel's hurt and anger.

I enjoyed this story; it was short, sweet and "hit the spot."

I am so happy that Daniel Sweet's finally got his story. You wondered, but wasn't really sure what was going on with him. Now we know.

If you haven't yet read anything by Emma Cane you don't know what you are missing. She writes wonderful, heartwarming funny stories. You will often find yourself laughing and crying on the same page.

I was conflicted on my feelings for Kristin. I understood why she did what she did. Her life was in danger. But she really hurt Daniel, a character I really like.

When Daniel finds out what's going on he's hurt, but does everything in his powers to protect the woman he loves. It's hard not the like him as the hero of this book. Such a great guy.

There are so many secret's in Secrets in Valentine Valley, and I'd love to talk more about them but I don't want to ruin anything for you. It's best to find them out for yourself.

I would really read this series in order so you can better understand Daniel and his story. This is a wonderful series so you'll be thanking me.

This novella is a bit different from the other books in this series. It is a cute romance like previous books but with added mystery. Very quick read, I stared and finished in 2020

A suspense novella that manages enough plot to be a satisfying read, with good characters and a HEA.

What a place to jump into a series. I hadn't had a chance to read any of Emma Cane's previous Valentine Valley books but when I was offered a chance to read this novella I jumped on it and I'm so glad I did.

Daniel and Kristin's story is gripping right from the beginning, it grabs your attention and the fast pace of the story made it so I didn't want to put it down for a minute and since it is a novella that is entirely possible. It is an action paced story with lots of excitement Kristin's background had me wanting to hear more.

I can't wait to check out more of this series and read more from Emma Cane.

Short and sweet

I love the little town of Valentine Valley and the people who live there. Daniel Sweet has the surprise of his life when he spots his old girlfriend hanging out in her car in front of his place. Before he knew it, he was on the run for his life. Danger thought them back together and I'm sure they'll have a very happy life together.
