Crowley *puts hair behind ear* - why are you starting to make me feel some type of way?

Yu only has one brain cell and he uses it for fighting lolol.

"That's weird. My feelings toward Yu haven't changed much at all" *slow blink* We know Mika darling. We know.

Oh Ferid - you would create a messed up scavenger hunt, while also keeping your fridge stocked.

"Nothing kills more humans than humans." Oof! Facts!

Guren *sob* Shinya *sob* everyone in the fam *sob*

I am not sure where the spark went, that I felt whenever I would pick up the next book of this series. Maybe the time in between reading each book lessens my excitement. But this volume wasn't as exciting or as lovable as the other volumes. I think this volume uses up a lot of space setting up stuff that will be used later on. I also found myself disliking Yu's logic. He is thinking a little too selfishly for a protagonist. I think the selfishness hadn't really struck me till recently, especially as the possible consequences become more tangible. I really hope someone knocks some sense into him.

All in all, I love this series and I will ride it out until I get to the end. I really want to know what Ferid is up to, him and Guren always seem to keep me interested. And of course my boys, Mikaela and Yu. Even if Yu gets on my nerves sometimes, the two of them together are a pair I can't get enough of.

This is such an underrated series, goddamn. Like, to me, this is such an original and amazing plot. I have never been as impressed by a vampire manga like I am with Seraph of the End.

Vampire emotions tend to fade. However: “That’s weird. My feelings toward Yu haven’t changed much at all.” We know, Mika honey – we know! But maybe you should TELL HIM.
Crowley takes Yu, Mika, and the Shinoa squad to one of Ferid’s mansions – because if they are going to rescue Ferid and the queen, they’ll have to do a LOT of training! As if expecting to be captured, Ferid has left some surprises that range from the surprisingly pleasant (wagyu beef in the fridge!) to the annoying (boobytraps) and the highly upsetting (the tanks of bodies in his cellar). Meanwhile, Shinya and the others are bugging Guren to tell them what the heck is up with him…but he can’t, because if they found out the truth, they would die. We also get to see a bit more of Mahiru, Shinya’s sister and Guren’s former lover, who now lives inside his sword as its not-quite-demon.

Side-note: Yu’s reaction when Crowley casually mentions something about his past human life is hilarious. Somehow it hadn’t dawned on him that ALL vampires used to be human, not just Mika! The squad are just dumbfounded. As Kimizuki puts it: “Sometimes I wonder what goes on in that gerbil cage you call a brain”

Full review of anime and manga up to chapter 100 or so: https://ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2...

Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously!)
- Yu admitting to Mika that he feels a little sick looking at the mansion. It looks just like the one Ferid had in Sanguinem “where, for our sake, you went to let him drink your blood…I should’ve been the one to go.” [Mika] “Then you’d rather I be the one who’s half-demon now?” [Yu] “Umm…no?” [Mika] “Aha ha! I’d say the two of us are even by this point, wouldn’t you?”
- Mika very sensibly questions if Yu is really serious about trying to rescue Ferid and Guren, both of whom are demonstrably untrustworthy. When Yu mentions the promise of reviving Akane and the others: “What would the price be this time? Would the last remnants of humanity be wiped out? Would it take the lives of your new human companions?” Yeah, Yu! And what if something happened to Mika? Could you live with that? Prior (and later) events say “no”!
- Narumi accuses Mika of just trying to get Yu to ditch them and run away with him - again. Mika promises that he’s not: “I’m just uneasy. The thought of losing friends again because I wasn’t smart enough to see what was coming…” Aww, are you actually starting to consider the squad “friends”, Mika?
- After Yu wanders off with Crowley for a bit, Narumi brings up an interesting point: Mika is the first “newborn” vampire created in over a century. “If your story is true…” [Kimizuki] “Uh, yeah. His story’s obviously true.” [N] “Did any of you witness it?” Kimizuki, Shinoa, and Mitsuba all say some variant of: Yu. [N] “OK, right. He’s so dumb he couldn’t lie his way out of a wet paper bag, so maybe he can be trusted.” Still, vampires are apex predators. Do those who have been vampires for centuries maintain even a fragment of their humanity? Finally, Narumi concedes that, if Mika can still feel strongly about Yu despite every other emotion getting faded, “It is possible for a vampire to cling to a fragment of their humanity. In that case, an alliance with them becomes possible.”
- Meanwhile, Yu’s still trying to wrap his head around the idea that Crowley, as a former human, would fight other humans. [Crowley] “Are you serious?...Nothing kills more humans than other humans!” He points out that, as a crusader, he probably killed more people than he has in his entire 800 years as a vampire.
- OMG, the flashback to Guren’s reaction to Shinya’s death 8 years ago…including being willing to risk every other person on the planet to bring him (and the others) back, even though it will only be for ten years. And Shinya being good enough at reading Guren to realize he’s protecting them by not talking. Seriously, I’m only 50% on board for the Gureshin ship – mainly because I think Shinya deserves better than Guren - but I definitely see where it comes from!
- Yu weeps when he sees the remains of his first family, but he doesn’t go berserk, as the others had feared. And Mika takes his hand so gently - Even if he can’t cry for them anymore, he still wants to be there for Yu and his grief. It is a very sweet and sad moment.

This are starting to become somehow crazy, I do not know who is on which side anymore! This volume is on the slow side, not much action or battle here, it is more characters oriented.

This volume starts with my favorite duo arguing. Yuu is too hopeful while Mika is super pessimist. I absolutely adore Crowley, there is some information about his past, that give a totally new view about this character. Yuu seems to think he is trustworthy and become sort of “buddy” with him. The rest of his team think the young soldier is an idiot and are on their guard.

Even Narumi do not trust Mika and believe the vampire will eventually snap and turn against them, since we found out that his humanity and feeling are slowly fading away.

The team spend some time in Ferid Bathory mansion while Guren and his squad are on their way to Osaka.

This series has seriously improved within the past five or six volumes, like, it's a completely different series now or something idk. Yu is still an idiot, but damn, the plot is amazing.

Welcome to a tour of Ferid Bathory's lavish estate in Osaka, little humans and seraphs. Feel free to relax, eat your fill, shower, and put on fresh Demon Imperial Army uniforms. Crowley Eusford will be your host. Oh, don’t worry about the nasty vampire on the premise. Crowley will take care of him. Don’t scowl, Mika-chan. There’s plenty of blood for you as well as human food. If it’s not good enough, wait until your beloved Yu has finished eating and you can eat him. Now, get your hand off your sword, it’s not as if Yu isn’t more than willing to share his blood with you. You can also ask Crowley about all those troubling questions Makoto Narumi raised concerning how much you’ve changed since becoming a vampire. All the while, you and the humans with you are being prepared for what’s in the basement. Don’t worry, though. You’re still having a better time than Guren Ichinose, facing the equally troubling questions his former friends have. You just have a Ferid-trapped mansion and a confused Crowley to deal with. The latter is starting to wonder, by the way, if maybe he can treat you and the humans with you as friends. Guren has to cope with not only Ferid’s games, but those of his lost love, Mahiru, and a secret he can’t ever reveal to those dearest to him, even as they draw close to it.

This sums up what’s happening in this volume. For someone who’s burning on a stake, Ferid Bathory did quite a masterful job of setting up things in advance and orchestrating them from afar. Crowley ends up stepping up as the bewildered host (since he himself isn’t sure what Ferid is up to) to a group of terrified humans, except for Yu, who’s warming up to him. It’s hard for even a vampire to resist Yu, no matter how dim or exasperating he might be. Just ask Mika, Shinoa, and well, everyone in the party. Crowley reveals more of his backstory and an increasingly complex relationship with Ferid, as the one he has with Yu gets more complicated. Speaking of complications, Makoto Narumi is stepping up and asking Mikaela Hyakuya some hard, direct questions even as the two of them confront each other in a way Yu never would and Shinoa Squad hesitates to. This spurs Mika to talk to Crowley about his vampire nature, deepening the mystery of just how human a vampire can remain. Guren and his team appear to headed for Osaka, too, playing his part in a carefully orchestrated plan, courtesy of Ferid. When did the two of them plot of all this? That’s another mystery raised. Speaking of mysteries and master manipulators, Mahiru reveals she’s still active and not quite what anyone thought. What exactly is she?

While there wasn’t as much action in this volume, the emotionally-driven intensity of the scenes more than made up for it. Many a interpersonal drama was played out, leaving me wanting more. For doing all of this in an exquisite art style (there was a panel at the very beginning of the books which captured the changing nature of Crowley and Yu’s relationship, of Shinoa and Mitsu together, of Guren and Mahiru, along with several of a troubled Mika which were absolutely beautiful), I give this four stars.

I got so pissed off at having ANOTHER shower scene between Shinoa and Mitsuba I had to put my tablet down less I hurl it into a wall. This time it goes even weirder and Shinoa uses her demon to shred Mitsuba's shirt so we can see her lacy bra (why the lacy bras, they are both in shitty military uniform) because *checks notes* she didn't want her to find out her bra size? Why was any of this necessary?? Yah it wasn't, y'all just gross.

These are 16 year olds and no girl is like this wtf. The entire interaction was just so bizarre and didn't even make any sense. The fact we keep getting scenes like this between those two instead of idk, Crowley and Ferid or any of the other male characters is SO telling. The ratio of male to female characters is nowhere close but ofc do it to the teenage girls again lmaoo.

Like just control yourself omg freak. I've put up with so much bullshit in this series toward the female characters because I love the rest of it so much. The least that could be done is the author not be a fucking creepy pervert.

Annoyingly the rest of this was so good. 🤡 Crowley is growing on me so much, goddamn he's fire. Everyone roasting Yu for being dumb was so accurate lmao love my boy though. He's so hot headed thinking he's so badass but then Crowley just casually dog walked him.

I kind of appreciate Narumi (even though this character could easily have been another girl but then nvm, would have just been in love with Yu then too or stuck in bathing scenes with the other girlies) on the team now as well. His weapon is cool and his conversation with Mika about how he's losing his humanity went hard. Narumi is a hater at his core and I relate to that fr.

When Mika said he's losing all his emotions besides his feelings for Yu, omg sobbing. 😭

Then we get Guren and Shinya flashbacks and oh !!! That had a lot of kick to it and I'm really upset at the implications of that information. 😭

Which brings me back to wtf crack is this writer on??? This entire series is literally gay as FUCK. Maybe I just see what I want to see or maybe this author runs a masterclass at queerbaiting because there is no explanation for any of this. Fellas is it gay

If the author is queerbaiting because boys love sells, can he just not control his horniness about the girls then like how you gonna have all this gay shit but then fanservice the girls in the same volume?? I don't think that man knows who his audience is because it sure isn't what he thinks it is lmao.

Big struggle that I love Mikayuu sooo much that I am willing to withstand such shitty writing for the female characters that only seems to be getting worse. 😔

They both told each other they most care about saving the other.😭 Mika doesn't want to drink the random child's blood and Yu is super chill about it, offering his own again.😭 When they see their dead relatives again and Yu cries and Mika holds his hand and leans against him oh my god.

Narumi is still the worst character. He's boring, hater and unnecessary. Just let my dear Mika do what he wants and needs. Mika loves Yu and Yu loves Mika, that's it. They deserve happiness and being together.

Every series usually has a good like this where nothing happens and it’s basically to set up the start of the story arc climax. Excited for the next book though.

Not as hyped as previous volumes, but there was a good deal of decent plot in this one. The art is on par as per usual. There's some questions about backstories you wish would be addressed though.

I don't know what it is about this volume but its heavy focus on mystery gripped me. I think part of it is the elusiveness of Ferid and how much he plans, preps for just in case, and his general good on-the-spot decision-making and how we see it come to fruition in this volume. This volume largely focuses on downtime with a lot of neat conversations as Yu and the gang visit Ferid's mansion.
There are a lot of great moments to let Crowley shine. I especially like when we learn that him being a 13th progenitor is a front. It's a nice tidbit that ties up ends about him drinking a 2nd progenitors blood and being so strong as a seemingly 13th progenitor. We also get a tender moment as we see Crowley The mansion parts aren't perfect though. We get a lot of Seraph of the End "talk about everything and everyone's viewpoint" moments. However I found these parts to be ineresting as we get to see how the characters different emotions and viewpoints bounce off of each other. This is especially the case of Narumi and Mika when There is also some gross fanservice.
This volume also helps clear up some more information on the Seraph of the End incident with Guren. I'm a little bored with the dripfeeding of information but at this point its par for the course with Seraph of the End. As usual we get new information but its not explained clearly. Apparently

Mika, I luv u :')
