Emma's Surrender

Rate this book
When twenty-year-old Emma Brookstone arrives in the town of Bannack, Montana, she seeks out the local marshal, intending to enlist his help in uncovering the truth regarding her father's murder two years earlier. Upon meeting the marshal, however, she is shocked and dismayed to discover that he is none other than the man who gunned her father down that fateful night.

Though Clive Brookstone was an evil man who needed killing, the knowledge that he left a young woman orphaned tore at Nathan Haskin's conscience from the moment he pulled the trigger, and he has secretly provided for Emma's needs since that day. Certain that hearing about her father's legacy of lawless violence would break her heart, he concealed it from her, but now that she has returned to Bannack her persistence eventually prompts him to tell her the full story.

To make matters more complicated, Nathan finds his desire to protect Emma quickly growing into a powerful need to tame and possess her, and when her foolish behavior puts her safety at risk he doesn't hesitate to take her in hand and spank her soundly. His stern chastisement leaves her furious yet helplessly aroused, and it isn't long before he claims her hard and thoroughly.

In her heart, Emma knows what Nathan tells her is true--that her father's death was just--but writhing in ecstasy as she is utterly dominated by the man who killed him fills her with shame nonetheless, and she does her best to deny her lust for the handsome marshal. Will the day ever come when she can put aside the past and surrender herself fully to the man she once hated?

Publisher's Note: Emma's Surrender includes sexual scenes and spankings. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

“How completely he had mastered her, when even the pain he inflicted felt like pleasure.”

I have adored every single DD Western romance that Amelia Smarts has written but Oh.My.God. EMMA’S SURRENDER is by far my favorite to date! This is the hottest, most emotionally INTENSE and most scintillating tale yet. It’s chock full of everything I crave…tempestuous passion, heartpounding adventure, forbidden lust, volatile emotion, angst, danger, excitement and lots and lots of naughtylicious bottom warmings!!!!

Ms. Smart’s Wild West tales always set my pulse aflutter and are a very visceral experience for me. I get belly quivers, tingly, sigh-worthy feels, and so much heartachy emotions throughout…. and holy wow did this book hit my SWEET SPOT! It is darker than her other erotic historical Westerns (and maybe that’s one of the reasons I was so titillated by it) but it still has her quintessential heart and soul that draw me to all her books. I was transfixed by this entrancing tale of captivity, love, lust and redemption from start to finish. And the erotic interludes and spanking scenes were so SIZZLING HOT I nearly spontaneously combusted!!

Swoooon!!!! I just ADORED Nathan. What a panty melting HAWT dominant alpha male!! I just love how this author always pens her heroes as stern, authoritative men yet beneath all the brawn and harsh, no nonsense bluster they always possess an innately kind, gentle, exquisitely tender side that makes my heart throb wildly in my chest!! And this is her most MOUTHWATERINGLY SEXY hero by far. Nathan emanates power and formidable strength, a dark, dangerous, domineering edge…. he is a man who demands ABSOLUTE obedience. Yet even when this rough and taciturn marshal metes out severe, well deserved punishments to his wayward woman, he never struck me as cruel, and I knew deep down that he had his spunky little lady’s best interests at heart!

I also loved Emma’s sweetness and sass…she was so sheltered yet surrender did not come easy for her! And what fun it was to see this fiery lass push her enemy’s buttons on more than one occasion! These two had sparks APLENTY and I just relished the push-pull between this red-hot duo as he tried to tame her into submission! I was particularly captivated by Emma’s internal battle between lust and righteousness where she struggled with her traitorous desires for the infuriating man who she should by all rights loathe! But despite everything, he made her feel safe and protected, cherished, and stirred up so much overwhelming emotions in her that she couldn’t help but fall. HARD. But loving Nathan could come at the ultimate cost.

Bottom line? This book was sinfully sexy, emotionally gripping, and oh so tantalizing!!! A must read!!!

5 DELICIOUSLY WANTON WILD WEST STARS!

This authors belief of the definition of what an alpha male and a true submissive represents really need a great deal of work and rethinking!!!

While the plot of this book was great, I find that once again another author has written her main female character as a complete doormat who as soon as sex is involved forget her morals. I understand what it means to be submissive and this is not it, even if she's as naive as she is about the world, I find her surrender at the time that she thought this man killed her father to disgusting. Also the hero was one of the biggest a**holes that's ever to be written about. The way he treated her was nothing short of abuse and no matter how you spin it Miss Smarts everything he did to her and everyway he treated has no love to it. I'm starting to think that you're one of those women who doesn't feel love until some has hurt you in some way and that is why your characters all share this flaw. Alpha male doesn't mean being a complete bully, a true protector not only protect physically but also emotionally they let their love speak through their actions, you really need to reevaluate what you think a strong represents, I love a good spanking book with an alpha male and his feisty submissive, but your characters are not that. I'm not saying this to be mean, but when someone spends their money only to be frustrated and disgusted for 90% of your book I think they're entitled to let you know with nothing but blunt honesty how the really feel.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I don't have a problem with DD historical westerns, but this book was off putting. I thought the basic plot would have been entertaining except for Nathan's treatment of Emma.

From almost the very beginning, Nathan treat Emma like crap. I was initially going to say he treated her harshly, but it went beyond that. Anything thought that was supposed to be an act of kindness on his part, was negated by his actual treatment of her.

Nathan also didn't seem to be too discreet in regard to Emma's virtue. That's not to say that Emma refrained from incredibly stupid behavior, or that she didn't cave when he took her virtue.

I got no sense of love, consideration, romance, or respect that Nathan may have had for Emma. There was no putting Emma on a pedestal in this book.

I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this audio book received from the author.

He kills her father right in front of her, forces her to leave town. She comes back for answers a couple of years later and finds out he’s now the law abiding marshal…..

He keeps your locked up in his home as a prisoner, is over the top controlling and borderline abusive to her. She then somehow can’t be without him.. I’m all for reading power exchange but in this he’s straight up cruel. And it is heavy on the punishment throughout.

Just didn’t make sense of so many levels.

Historical western romance is one of my favorite genres, and Amelia Smarts brings it every time. This DD romance brings so many different emotions to us. Nathan, the hero, forbidden to love is so hot, and alpha male that you cannot help but fall in love with him. While rough and domineering, you cannot help but just melt for. him Nothing but godd intentions and keeping his woman and the people in town safe. Emma, the sassy daughter of the most hated man in town, though sheltered throughout her life proved her bravery and spunk while still showing her submissive side(though she was a little reluctant to admit it). The chemistry between these two was apparent from the start, and the spankings....oh the spankings....These two, between the forbidden feelings that Emma warred with, the kidnapping, the danger of being who she was, the passion the two ignited, I could not get enough of the it all!

Jack Barclay narrated this book with a full performance of each emotion. His baritone voice is perfect for cowboys and his inflection of emotion brought the story to life.

This was an interesting read for me. I’ve read a few other books by Smarts in the past and have enjoyed them, and to be honest this blurb struck my interest so I couldn’t wait to get started on it.

Needless to say – whatever expectations that I had with this book? Were completely blown away. Smarts was able to draw me into the story so much that at times I had to remind myself that I was just reading a book.

The characters, both Nathan and Emma were written in such a way that it was easy to connect with both of them. Emma’s feelings came though so much throughout the whole book that I couldn’t help but connect with her. Nathan was written in a way that I could feel his emotions jump from the pages.

This story blew me away, and I would say that if you enjoy this genre, you should really pick up this book.

📚I am honestly and voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader's copy of this book📚
Sometimes you need a change of pace read. Nathan and Emma's story is surprising and confusing in so many ways. Their relationship starts with him murdering her father, in front of her. The next time she sees him, he's the town sheriff. Their sexual encounters are odd at best and even though there was chemistry, how it played out was weird. Would I read another of Amelia Smarts' book, sure. The book was fast paced, the writing style was good.

I would have rated this higher if not for the infuriating heroine, she was a total dimwit, couldn't stand her; I hate when the MCs are totally into each other but the h keeps pushing the H back, it harms the flow of the story and, unfortunately, this happens far too often.

Apart from that, there were several wickedly sexy scenes with a dressing of spanking, for those of you who love this type of sport. :-D

I will continue to read this author, though, I enjoyed the kinky side of the story.

I loved this book so much! I had read a couple of western romances before and not really got on with them, but this one was a complete page turner from start to finish! The characters had a lot of depth and they fitted together so well. I was rooting for them so much!

Could not finish. Cringeworthy sex. Should have stopped when heroine said she liked her tea with “one milk and two sugars”. What is she, ordering from McDonald’s in the 1860’s??

Goes down as another off my 2017 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book with a persons name in the title. Well spank me silly how hot was this? I didn’t want it to end. Such a wickedly saucy read, one you should definitely check out.

Emma first meets Nathan at eighteen but at the time he called himself Mr Harper. She knows him only as the man who killed her father in front of her, proceeded to kidnap her and then left her with a friend of his who would give her shelter to keep her safe. Confusing her to no end that he would care so much about her safety after murdering her father. But it seems that he had a very good reason to be rid of Clive Brookstone and now a bigger one to keep her safe from others who may seek to harm her. Had he known about her before the plan was in action he may have acted differently. The way he acts at the time is to make her hate him so she will still think kindly of her father and keep her memories in the past. Two years later though she wants answers more than anything and is determined to get them no matter the cost. She just gets a bit more than she bargain for when she comes face to face with him again. It’s a bit hard to ask help from the marshal of your hometown about your fathers murder if he’s the one that did it. Nathan intends to give her the answers she seeks, whether she likes them or not is something else entirely. When you find out more of what Clive Brookstone was really like though you see how rightly it was deserved in the name of justice for those who had been affected by his greed for gold.

Sinfully wicked fun when Nathan gets his hands on Emma second time around. He can see what she wants and needs from him even if she’s not ready to accept it yet. Submission is the key to this relationship and she must learn that everything he does is for her safety. To get her to see this he has rules, ones that shouldn’t be broken. You may say some rules are meant to be broken but with the punishment she gets she won’t be thinking to break them again in a hurry. With every punishment comes a reward though, something she is learning to love and hate at the same time. She shouldn’t want him for what he did but she can’t seem to stay away. Well at first its her choice to not want to stay away and then its his to keep her close whether she likes it or not. You can clearly see her struggle with her emotions and how he makes her feel. He is pushing her boundaries to the limit but how far is too far? He sent her away from her hometown after her fathers’ death to keep her safe but with her back he knows the threat is ever present. Many people hated her father and will feel the same by association with Emma being his daughter. Gold and greed go hand in hand and it’s not long before the danger he feared rears its ugly head. Will these two lovers find a future or will their troubled pasts hold them back?

Loved this book right from the start. You can tell straight off that there is a deeper reason for what happens at the start and with how Nathan (aka Mr Harper) acts around Emma. He wanted to protect her from the moment he saw her, one look and she was his. It just took her a little longer to see and accept this. Because as far as he’s concerned she’s his to protect, boss about and love no matter what. The sooner she realises this the better. He is the master of spanking I feel, his go to punishment. He controls her body and knows what she needs even when she protests, with how breathy she gets at times you know she loves it. Great characters and pace throughout. Sexy sassy characters that help create a very spicy Weston to get your teeth into.

I received this ARC from the author for my honest review.

MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD

I enjoyed this western and I was drawn into the tale from the beginning to the end that is full of mystery, suspense, greed, murder, corruption, and power. For one man, Clive Brookstone, he controlled people, he controlled gold, and he abused his power. Sending his daughter away to be raised by an Aunt allowed him more freedom for his evil ways of theft and murder. What will happen when Emma’s aunt passes away, and she comes back home to Daddy?

Emma Brookstone is an innocent young woman who just wants the love and affection of family. She was shattered when her father decided to send her back East to an Aunt to be raised. Now she is eighteen-years-old and back home, with so many years passed, and things are not like what she left. The town of Bannack is still lawless, and her world will be forever changed in front of her eyes with the murder of her father by the guest in his home, Mr. Harper.

The story will take several twists and turns and is full of secrets, lies, deceit, and a town that has no love for a Brookstone. There is a great cast of characters, plenty of mystery and secrets to keep the pages turning, along with a love and hate relationship between Emma and Nathan. It will also have a few incidences of past memories when Emma is a young girl before she is sent to her Aunt.

After the death of her father, she is taken away by his murderer to the town of Dillon and left in the care of Sadie Gould. Emma can not let the past go and is determined to return to Bannack and try to avenge the murder of her father. Emma will confront the very man that haunts her memories and must face the truth that she doesn’t want to hear or believe. Nathan has provided for Emma’s care and has held a soft spot for her, but he will not allow her to get away with being careless and proves he is serious with harsh punishments. He is domineering, presumptuous, infuriating and controlling according to Emma, but it is all because he cares and is trying to keep her safe.

The story has both non-consensual and dubious consent spankings and explicit sex scenes in a rough and tumble western setting. Disclosure: I was provided with an e-copy of the story, and I have voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

Hot spanking western suspense. This is the first time I've read Amelia Smarts it won't be the last. I enjoyed it very much but I could put it down. It was to short for everything that was happening, it seems abit rushed.

I am an Amelia Smarts fan... right from her first book, The Unbraiding of Anna Brown, so I always know I am going to get a quality book I'll enjoy from the first page to the last, but this one was something special. Right from the unique cover I found this western a cut above. Not only was it a spectacular story, but very sophisticated with the depth of the characters and emotions. Ms. Smarts has really outdone herself! I absolutely one hundred percent recommend this gem of a book!! Truly impressed! WOW!

I've fallen in love with Ms. Smarts' books. She's converted me to a fan of the Erotic Western genre. From the very first page, she describes in picturesque detail as I am consumed with the story. I've never put one of her books down until "The End." "Emma's Surrender is an engaging page turner that contains plot twists and revelations. Emma and Nathan learn to appreciate each other as they fill a void they're reluctant to admit. This newest release is a welcome addition to an already awesome body of work.

In 1864 in Montana, outlaws killed innocent people for bricks of gold. As a young girl, Emma was a witness to one of those horrific acts. She also watched Mr. Harper do some horrible deeds. Years later, the two meet again. She is drawn to Nathan who is now the town Marshal. "Her emotions were raw and painful, and she wanted strong arms around her telling her everything would be fine, just as her father used to do when she was a child."

Nathan feels he must explain himself with his words and actions. " I'm a lawman, and it's my job to protect and punish people. Seems to me you're in need of both." And he does both. The only way he knew how.

When Nathan is in trouble, Emma realizes how much effort he has put forth into their relationship over the years and how much she truly loves him. "So, you finally want to be my girl, huh? Each needs the other, so I reckon we belong together." Bound by circumstance and fate, Nathan always knew his Emma was more precious than gold.

This is a quick read that I did enjoy. The book is very well written. The sexual chemistry between the hero and heroine sizzles and is wonderful, as is their characters’ development. The D/s relationship is very acceptable in that the heroine has been so completely sheltered and is still quite young. Her character makes an almost unbelievable relationship and story totally realistic. For a short work there is plenty of spanking and some exciting sex. Humor is not absent, another joy in a well written piece. The opening starts off rather dark and later has a significant amount of violence but the ending is good.
Although I would actually read it again, it lacked a larger frame of reference with regard to how the war had factored into the setting, initial situation and how it specifically influenced characters, directly or indirectly. A prologue may have been all that was needed. The only drawback was that I wanted to know more about lesser characters, everyone’s parents, Ziggy’s accomplice and ‘the gold’. I simply wanted more to read. I plan to read many more from this author from falling in love with her characters to how nice it is to read her well written words.

Amelia Smarts is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love the dark turn she takes with Emma's Surrender. As always her characters pulled me in from the very beginning. I loved Emma's transition from naive girl to independent woman as she struggles to love the man responsible for the darkest moment of her life. Despite a somewhat villainous beginning, Nathan repeatedly proves to be the hero that Emma needs even when that means walking away. The romance between these two was very well written and the action side of the story kept me intrigued to the end.

I received an ARC of this book from Stormy Night Publications.

This one has a feisty young woman who wants to find the men who killed her father, who was not the man she thought he was. A strong hunky man tries to keep the young lady safe even with a few trips over his knee. There are many unexpected twists and turns with a great storyline. There are many elements including evil men, violence, spanking, Romance and love. Great read.

Loved this

What a fantastic book, whew! Nathan, at the beginning, was a character I had a hard time liking, but as the story continued he was totally redeemed in my eyes. Emma is a strong young woman who experiences a tragedy and grows tremendously with the help of Nathan. Their journey and romance is full of twists and turns and is a steamy fun ride!

The saddest two words in any book by Amelia Smarts are The End. The wonderful journey that she has takes the reader on must finally draw to a close but it often feels way too soon.
Emma’s Surrender is no exception to this rule. It’s an action-packed drama, driven by complex characters who won my heart.
From the opening chapter when Emma Brookstone witnesses her father’s murder and is kidnapped by the haughty Nathan Harper, this book a page turner from start to finish.
Emma is alternately terrified and infuriated by Nathan until he’s gone, leaving her to build a new life far away from him and everything she has ever known.
Emma must try to clear her father’s name though and, in doing so, collides again with the super protective Nathan.
The change in their relationship is poignantly and passionately told. Spoiler: There is an excellent twist at the end where the strong Nathan is rendered physically weak – not something that is often depicted in this genre. It’s a credit to the author that she could incapacitate her hero and bring him back, stronger and more commanding than before.
