SHE'LL DO ANYTHING TO SAVE HER BEST FRIEND. EVEN OFFERING HER BODY AS A SACRIFICE.
When Camilla Alvarez receives a disturbing voicemail, she makes it her life's mission to discover what really happened to Claire. The problem? Somehow Red Crescent, North America's most brutal and dangerous pack of monsters, is involved. Even worse? Red Crescent only has one out and proud member from the fanged and furred closet. Drew 'Wild West' Weston, the seriously scary beast who took the Ultimate Feral Brawls circuit by storm.
Camilla's willing to swallow her fear to do whatever it takes to save a friend, even go on a suicide mission to seduce a violent wolf. Though admittedly, using pheromones to catch his attention…
Not the best idea.
BEAUTY & BEAST is a hot and heavy installment of the Sinful Supes series. If you're a fan of dark intrigue and dominant shifters, sink your teeth into Beauty & Beast today. READER DISCRETION ADVISED (18+)
XANDRIE KOVAK writes for mature teens. X.KOVAK writes for adults. Just about any XK book is rife with beautiful monsters, reader discretion advised labels, and romance of the dark variety. Basically, XK writes the kind of stories your mother warned you about.
Camilla, guuuurrrrrl, you are the sh*t. I love my heroines to be tough and Camilla certainly delivered. This book was an awesome second installment and I am seriously bummed by the wait for the next one. This book, like the first, had a good amount of violence, more dirty sex (nothing too over the top, the sex was actually pretty necessary to the story), and fortunately a more age appropriate hero. Such a good read.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Xandrie!
Xandrie truly outdid herself in this one! It was the complete package; action, plot, suspense, intrigue, and steamy scenes! She may have even crossed over to the hot and steamy naughty side if you catch my drift - *wink*.
Beauty & Beast is the sequel to The Fervor and features Camilla and West. Camilla is such a badass sassy chick and I love her. She is so brave and devoted to the people she cares about, and it was really apparent throughout the read. She is somewhat who I aspire to be like - always having great retorts and having people's backs.
The plot of the story was riveting and natural, moving not too fast, but not at a snails pace either. I believe that Xandrie's conciseness makes her a great author.
With every book Xandrie writes, her writing gets more and more confident and fluid. She is growing as a writer and finding that lexical rhythm that is her own (I should totally trademark that, because it's gold). She is trying out new things and seeing what works and what doesn't; feeling out her limitations and figuring out ways to always push them.
*** Thanks again to Xandrie for allowing me the chance to read her ARC - sorry I took so long to review, I was struck down by a lurgy **** If the first book was "wham bam thank you mam" this one was more sexy, salsa, hot, hot, hot!!! Camilla is a women with a mission and "Wild West" Weston is the man in her sights to achieve her aim: "To save her best friend Claire", and his hot body and gorgeous looks won't stand in her or at least not keep her lying down....... without her clothes on. Great read with a sassy lady and hot werewolves, you just can't go wrong with this one, but it does help to have read the first book.
I liked that Camilla had fire, but not so much that she was more prickly than necessary. I understand the need for cards to be held close to the chest, but to be rude for the sake of being rude wasn't that awesome. I loved her turnaround, though. Very much.
West was full of alpha badness and sex on a stick the whole time. While his affection for Camilla came on faster, I didn't balk at his quicker emotional timeline, in fact, I loved him more for how he showed his heart. Never lost his toppy awesomeness, but his heart won me over completely.
The ending was appropriate for the series and I'm looking forward to more! I received an ARC from the author and more than willingly reviewed it.
Xandrie Kovak has done it again! I am totally in love with her books. This story takes place after The Fervor. Camilla is desperately searching for her best friend who went missing. She is convinced that the Red Crescent Wolf Pack is somehow responsible or involved so she kidnapped one of the members. It doesn't go exactly as she plans and what ensues afterwards is a wild ride!
I have been consistently impressed with Ms. Kovak's writing style and keeps me captivated throughout the each book I would definitely recommend this book and all of her other books to anyone who enjoys paranormal and paranormal-romance!
Our new leading lady's role shifts to Claire's briefly introduced best friend from the opening sequence in Fervor, the first tale in this highly recommended novella series of stories. Camilla (Camy) was the other person from Claire's Skype call to show the squalor of Claire's less than humble converted shed rental. Now centre stage, Camy's experiences become one of the two new foci in this third Sinful Supes novella called Beauty & Beast. In accordance with the Beauty part of that equation, Camy's intentions are to put together the best makeup and clothing she could get her hands on, in order to appear to at least one of them that she's of his own breed. Whilst Claire scored high enough (as it turns out, that happens to be a miniscule amount for qualification) on the gene test run by the government to be considered a Succubus, in this instance its ironical that its her best friend's questionable plans that involve seduction. Further adding to the danger of such a bold move, she's encroaching on the circuit of underground brawling and the UCB's retired pinup boy fighter.
Given the devastating consequences of the fervor Claire's pheromones contributed to creating, if she were contactable then she'd be highlighting the absolute lunacy of Camy's advocated intentions, even if its through misguided intentions of saving her. Only the readers of Fervor know the misguided is more aptly the misdirected. As Camy sits in her car psyching herself up in an abandoned warehouse, she knows enough to realise that unless she reigns in her fears, that which her anxieties are creating, then all of her planning will be for naught. From her own limited knowledge Camy knows that some ferals cannot ignore those who are coming across to them as prey.
The instincts to hunt sometimes override reasoning capacities, that which would usually prevent them from hunting forgotten as the animal in them comes out to play with it's food before it turns to the eating. Somehow she had to keep her scent - the thing she couldn't actually detect or control as the ferals do - from smelling less like a ripe and juicy bunny, to more like the ready-for-anything deadly predator. Of course, try as she might, converting the knowing to an action escapes her, especially in the presence, in more than just one way, of a beast with hulking girth (pun intended). She hasn't the first iota of doing so naturally, which is how her resourcefulness would eventually lead her astray.
The male counterpart to Camy is Drew “Wild West” Weston, Lucas's second in command over the Red Crescent wolf pack. The prodigal son who'd never wanted to seek the mantle of Pack Alpha, he's a wolf obviously accustomed to having an endless number of willing women throw themselves in his path. That is, to Camy's recollections, going by his obviously well rehearsed capacity to redirect their intentions. UFB champion at seventeen provided some of his appeal plus the fact he'd retired undefeated, and the rest comes from his obviously hard and sculptural body and his god-like good looks. As the lead enforcer and one of a very small number of people Lucas can be said to trust, the further irony will turn out to be that if Camy was honest with him from the outset, then he'd likely have been motivated to help her willingly. He'd do almost anything to stop the spiral of self-destruction he's witnessing in Lucas since his mate-bond had been cutoff around three-weeks ago.
Although its doubtful that Lucas wouldn't have already assigned West the duty of finding out any information on where Claire might be, its Camy who herein is trying to make the move to gain his compliance in tracking down her missing best friend. It might be said, that if Lucas has already imparted this job, then West could take the opportunity to get freshly laid by a spunky mystery lady with a hot accent and a body to match her sassy demeanour. Given the bottom Lucas is looking to hit, possibly because he erroneously believes that Claire freely chose to break the mate-bond, instead of knowing it was done under duress and to save his life.
For West the decision was already made through his loyalty to Lucas and the needs of his pack, so he knows he must see this event through in case Camy can provide answers they don't already have. For Camy its the fact that Claire had never stabbed her in the back or treated her as a rival, that she's loyal to a fault, but is outside the reach of the police due to her classification as a Supe, which when combined means Camy is prepared to overlook the stupidity of this move; to hope she'd chosen a Supe who wouldn't outright treat her as food and perhaps provide some sorely needed information to help her in the search.
Just as much as any of the cosmetic adornments Camy wore this night to entrap the wolf it was the highly illegal and dangerous lip gloss that she'd arranged through a friend who got it off of the black market. Filled with the scent of pheromones of a wolf bitch in heat, Camy strategically uses it to draw the attention of the wolf she's determined to question, if being claimed meant aligning the man likely to have access to the means of locating her best friend to her, then Camy would allow herself to be claimed. That is until it actually begins to happen and the reality of the very dangerous game that she's chosen to put in play sets in.
Its been three weeks since Claire left the harrowing voicemail on her phone, the one where she's saying goodbyes with heartfelt love and tears, stating between sobs that the very same things they'd joked and kidded about were actually coming true; that she'd go down swinging, but that she'd nonetheless go down at the hands of whoever made it through all the killing produced by her fervor. Its the memories of things said and never having the time to say that motivated her past the point of no return. Being a Californian girl in Colorado she was undoubtedly out of her depths in more ways than just the one. As the dust rose in a maelstrom of their playing around with each other, the knife edge they'd both ended up walking that night would cause repercussions neither dreamt of; they'd both played a role in inciting the big bad wolf, but they may let the animal of its leash, one that wouldn't be constrained by either of their best intentions.
Once again there's the dazzling experiences of unbridled passion, lust and gore that mark Xandrie's aptly named Sinful Supes as being rated firmly in the adult entertainment categor. But just as pleasing there's still the very enjoyable plots that back all the bells and whistles. All too often these two separate dynamics tend to become blurred: so that readers are either left wondering what actually went on behind the scenes that are cut short because authors are being safe and steering clear of the juicy details in all their glory; or they're pretty much being exposed to a form of smut sorely lacking without the relish of having a plot you can sink your teeth into. I've read and reviewed all three in this series now and I can safely highlight this aforementioned combination as a signature trademark of Xandrie's writing style(s).
I won't claim to be an expert by listing the examples of where else I've encountered the same, because unfortunately my early repeated exposure to a trend in the latter, put me off to a poor start so that for a long while I avoided any fantasy that seemed to include erotica. I'm happy to say, if I must point it out to you in non-ambiguous terms, that Xandrie has restored my faith in the possibility that fantasy titles can include romantic erotica without necessarily sacrificing their story to achieve such goals. And with the open sexuality and the tooth and claw nature of most supernaturals its fitting that stories about them should contain such characteristics. Whilst these Sinful Supes stories might be shorter than the average book, they do have fulfilling individual plots with a growing overarching storyline. The characters, the social settings, and the events all work well toward keeping your eyes open and reading, whilst building anticipation in what delights the author will next have for you to read, in both the current novella and the impatiently awaited future additions; not to suggest however that there's a long or inappropriate wait between releases, its not that kind of impatience I'm referring to.
I just felt like putting that out there before anything else.
Drew is kinda funny, too, but he's not on Camilla's level. Ha-ha.
Their story is just as fast as Lucas and Claire's one. (I didn't mention this in my previous book's review, but I love the fact that Claire is one of the only, if not the only, Succubi left in the world the author has created.)
I loved this story. The problem is, it felt like it didn't do much. Literally, it was about Camilla falling in love (way too fast) with a werewolf and becoming one herself—but the reader never gets privy to her transformation. It's what I like to call a space waste. A space waste because it didn't contribute much to Claire and Lucas' story. It was just a filler.
At least it was a funny filler with some pretty cool romance in it.
(SPOILER: I really loved it when Drew put a ring on her middle finger instead of on her ring finger. So cute.)
Onto the typos, now: > "Take the bait, asshole." Well, this isn't a typo. It's more of a visual eff up. This was supposed to be a thought in italics, but the author missed out the first letter: 'T'. There was another, but I forgot to make a note of it. Oops.
Similar problems to the previous book: loads of comma splices and fused sentences. Yikes!
I've been reading / following Xandrie Kovak for some time now, third book, and I've enjoyed all her works. Beauty & Beast is no exception! Its very hot, with explicit content, but the story is excellent, well written and moves quickly. This follows Xandrie's book, the Fervor, with Camilla, Claire's best friend from Fervor, doing all she can to try and find / rescue her friend. Camilla is a very strong person, driven, but also questions herself and has great feelings and compassion. She pushes the limits with West, an Alpha character introduced in Animus, as does Xandrie, and finds a lot of trouble, much of which she enjoys. ;-) I'll leave it at that to avoid spoilers. My only "con" is that I'd like longer stories / books, but as Xandrie has just started publishing, hopefully that will follow. If you enjoy a good paranormal / werewolf story with some serious heat, this is the book for you! For transparency, I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of Beauty & Beast before purchasing.
I volunatrily reviewed an advance copy. Loved the characters. Camilla is loyal and passionate, easy to sympathize. And West, I loved his character. He's the former UFB champion, and prone to tears. It was just so cute. Other characters like Dom and Quinn are becoming more and more interesting, too. I'm looking forward to reading their stories.
The only thing I would've liked added was the moment when Camilla felt the mate bond and how West felt about her for the first time from her POV. Since it's only mentioned in the conversation with West's POV in the book, her change of mind to accept West felt a little abrupt.
Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. I even had a little bit of book hangover, which doesn't happen often (maybe a few times a year).
A roaring adventure of finding a lost best friend in the mouth of the wolves den. And let's face it, love too for those that care. Camilla is on a mission to find her best friend. But no one is talking, even her best friend's parents are claiming not to know her friend Claire anymore. So what's a girl gotta do? Go to the wolves den wearing feral girl pheromones. And boy did she find trouble, and his name is West. West, I don't know what happened. One minute I'm in the zone and the next this mysterious female wolf's pheromones hits me full in the face like a b*tch slap. A flirty smile and she disappears, I'm gone. Who cares what the others say. I gotta have her no matter what!
Oh man! Sassy and brave versus cocky and confident in a great story. Camilla and West are even more fun than Claire and Lucas (from The Fervor-book 1). I didn't think that was possible. The laughs continued pretty much the whole way through. I love the use of modern language rather than formal. I think this helps give the characters a more true to life feel that's easy to relate to.
Camilla's attempt at seduction has a double edged result. Is she ready for the consequences? Her target, West, doesn't have a choice. She's coming for him whether he's ready or not, and the results are steamy hot!
Another great book by Ms Kovak. I have been anxiously waiting for the next book. This did not disappoint. The heat between West and Camilla is off the charts. I love how Camilla is all feisty one minute and soft the next. West has just the right amount of alpha mixed with the right amount of protectiveness towards Camilla. The love scenes (they are more than just sex) are panty melting. I can't wait for the next book to come out, I need to know what happened to Claire, and if she gets to be with Lucas already.!!! I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I shouldn't be surprised by how much I loved Beauty & Beast. I mean, I'd loved her two previous books, so this should've been expected, right? Yet somehow, even after reading the synopsis, I feared it wouldn't live up to the others. I shouldn't have worried. This is sexy, and intriguing, with just enough darkness to give it interest, but not enough to be offputting (I like fluff, so what?). If you've read either The Fervor or Animus, you pretty much know what to expect from this series, but there are enough surprises to make it a must-read (especially that ending. I am raging that the next book in the series isn't out yet!)
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of Beauty & Beast. I absolutely enjoyed this one! Camille goes out guns-a-blazing in search for her best friend, who has been missing for 3 weeks. Her starting point: The man her father idolized, West. Don't want to give anything else away, as this is one of those books AND series that you have to read for yourself. You will be hooked!!! It is fresh style of writing and intriguing to read. Very well written and characters are well developed. Absolutely looking forward to what this author has planned for us next!
I was very excited to continue the story of the Sinful Supes. I didn't like this book quite as much as I liked The Fervor and Animus, which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. I think I like the characters of Lucas and Claire a little better than Camilla and West. I wish there was a bit more of them in this 'episode'. There is still so much unresolved between them. That being said, Camilla and West have an intense start. (Camilla really should have thought that through a little better.) As expected, Xandrie leaves you wanting more.
Incredible! Camilla will do anything to find her best friend, even lose her heart to a wolf. West is hardcore to his bones, until her. You watch him do a complete 180 and turn into an overgrown lovesick puppy. Adorable is what he was. The interaction between the two is just perfect. This story is full of humor, friendship and love. Great second book in the series. The writing is amazing and keeps you locked in. I definitely recommend for all PNR lovers. Can't wait to see what happens next in the Supes world. I received an Advance Copy for an honest voluntary review
I love this series, I just didn't care for the full dose of these two characters. As secondary characters in Animus I wanted to know more about West and Camilla, but in this his character had no depth and she was just way to much. I get strong female characters but Camilla just got on my nerves, also the constant use of dios mio, carbon, and corazon, was comical like that was the only spanish the character knew. I still love the series, and will continue to read every book.
Ok great story and loads of action as well as the romance. Only drawback, in a way, MAJOR cliffhanger. Lol I can deal with that though cause Can drive Kovak delivers on it with each new book in the series. Honestly, I can't wait for the next one to come out. Originally I received this book as an advance review copy and am giving an honest review of it. Well worth the read and aggravation of a cliffhanger cause it is a wonderful book.
If you like paranormal with a little erotica, this book holds no punches. It will pull you in from page one till the very end. This book present itself with a bit of dark and gritty style that's self absorbed in the characters. If you are ready for a ride of twists and turns then hold on to your seat. I feel the story could of benefit with a little more length to the storyline. Also feel that you should be over 18 to read them with all the sex in them.
What a pair of badasses! Camilla goes after Claire, all guns blazing & gets more than she bargained for! Drew is one hot dominant guy trying to help his alpha find his missing mate. The chemistry that ignites between these 2 dominant characters is intense, frustrating and funny. Never a dull day in the world of the Sinful Supes! Can't wait to see what The Hunter brings... I recieved an ARC from the author which I voluntarily reviewed.
Great continuation to the first book! Please note, I did receive an ARC for an honest review.
Camilla,a human, is looking for her best friend, Claire from The Fervor, who has gone missing after leaving her a voice message that has left Camilla to believe that whatever happened was not good at all. The only lead she has is the voice message, specifically the howling of a wolf in the background of it. Who better to try to get information from than the most well known wolf Supe, Drew "Wild West" Weston, the Ultimate Feral Brawler champion. However things don't go the way Camilla plans and she gets more than what she bargains for. As long as it gets her closer to Claire though, is all that matters to Camilla.
I really enjoyed this next installment. I do hate the waiting in a series but when it's a good story, then it's worth the wait. I love the chemistry between the two and I really like the interaction they have with one another - sex scenes are HOT! Where can I get my own feral?!?! LOL! I got a few good laughs from them too. Ms. Kovak is getting better and stronger with her storytelling. As she is a new author/writer, there is more room for her to grow so please don't just judge her storytelling against more establish authors. That would be unfair. I am looking forward to her next installment.
Another rollercoaster. I need a fricken 120 proof bottle for this series!
Lord have mercy! I love love loved this book and I cannot believe how frucken awesome Camilla and West are! Love Urban Fantasy? Love dark PNR? Read this one. Read it after you read The Fervor and Animus. And love every word of it, like me.
Holy hotness! What an awesome book! I can't wait for the next book in the series!! Xandrie Kovak is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! Just the right amount of heat/sass/excitement! Keep en coming! Well worth the read!!
* I received an advance copy in exchange for a fair and impartial review.
Another great story in the Sinful Supes lineup. Camilla and West were both supporting characters in Fervor and Animus, but here sizzle together in their own story. Camilla is a strong female character that doesn't back down from the very Alpha West. Both West and Cammy have intense loyalty to their friends and have to juggle that with their quickly deepening feelings for each other.
I love the interplay between the characters and the way that XK not only creates a great storyline but continues the arc that she started in Fervor. She introduces new characters and reintroduces others seamlessly and has created a very sustainable and interesting world. I can't wait for the next installment ... not only because I have become a Lucas junkie and am dying to know what is next for him and Claire but also to know what will happen next in this developing world.
If you are new to the Supes or XK's work and aren't sure it's for you - try it you won't be disappointed. In fact, you will be back to buy everything else XK has available as soon as you finish the last page. (And then impatiently wait for the next title to be released)
Camilla is hunting for her missing friend and may have bit off more than she can chew! Kovak has drawn me in again with this well written, fast paced story. Can't wait to see what happens with the next book.
Has its own HFN but still manages to end with its own cliffhanger. But it's good enough that you know your gonna get then next one, so you won't be angry. Yes truly that good.
Camilla is gutsy, have to give her that. Foolhardy, but brave. but she certainly didn't expect what she got herself into. Sexy shifters and beautiful ladies, good, light reading.
