Penelope Jones Halsall
aka Caroline Courtney, Annie Groves, Lydia Hitchcock, Melinda Wright

Penelope "Penny" Jones was born on November 24, 1946 at about seven pounds in a nursing home in Preston, Lancashire, England. She was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, an engineer, who died at 85, and his wife Margaret Louise Groves Jones. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru".

She had been a keen reader from the childhood - her mother used to leave her in the children's section of their local library whilst she changed her father's library books. She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister Prue, who was always the heroine. At eleven, she fell in love with Mills & Boon, and with their heroes. In those days the books could only be obtained via private lending libraries, and she quickly became a devoted fan; she was thrilled to bits when the books went on full sale in shops and she could have them for keeps.

Penny left grammar school in Rochdale with O-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. She first discovered Mills & Boon books, via a girl she worked with. She married Steve Halsall, an accountant and a "lovely man", who smoked and drank too heavily, and suffered oral cancer with bravery and dignity. Her husband bought her the small electric typewriter on which she typed her first novels, at a time when he could ill afford it. He died at the beginning of 21st century.

She earned a living as a writer since the 1970s when, as a shorthand typist, she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, Penny found an agent who was looking for a new Georgette Heyer. She published four regency novels as Caroline Courtney, before changing her nom de plume to Melinda Wright for three air-hostess romps and then she wrote two thrillers as Lydia Hitchcock. Soon after that, Mills and Boon accepted her first novel for them, Falcon's Prey as Penny Jordan. However, for her more historical romance novels, she adopted her mother's maiden-name to become Annie Groves. Almost 70 of her 167 Mills and Boon novels have been sold worldwide.

Penny Halsall lived in a neo-Georgian house in Nantwich, Cheshire, with her Alsatian Sheba and cat Posh. She worked from home, in her kitchen, surrounded by her pets, and welcomed interruptions from her friends and family.

Re A Treacherous Seduction - Penny Jordan is back with book three of her HP mini suspense series - Sweet Revenge/Seduction

Beth is the youngest member of our quartet of lady vengeance seekers and she has been in Prague for most of the prior two books, looking for Baroque Glassware to sell in her fine dining store.

To that effort, she meets Alex, our H who is a very good translator ,as well as a History lecturer about to accept a History Chair and he is related to a family of renowned glassworkers who own a luxury glass firm.

Unfortunately Beth is an idiot and kinda anti men after Slime Gulper Julian's betrayal, so she thinks Alex is trying to con her.

After a lot of traveling around with Alex and some roofie kisses that lead to big time passion events. Beth stubbornly invests a lot of money she doesn't have to buy an order of glassware from some REAL con artists. Then she is really mean and snotty to Alex as she leaves to go home.

When Beth breaks things off with Alex and goes back to Rye, she eventually realizes she has been had and is going to have to tell her partner Kelly that the business is bankrupt.

At the very last minute, Alex's Aunt shows up with a complete collection of very pricey and very baroque Venetian hand blown glassware and she gives it to Beth as a wedding present for her and Alex because Alex asked his aunt for a big favor.

Beth's shop is saved and Anna, who is now pregnant, tells her to go and confess her love to Alex. Alex is having a huge mopey moment in his College rooms and when Beth shows up, he waives her apology away and they get down to serious lurve club purple passion moments.

The decide to quickly marry and for a wedding present, Alex's aunt gives them a set of beautiful lustre loving cups. Beth and Alex are now well set for their HEA and we only have Dee to see through to her HEA.

Dee is currently on the hunt for Snot Snarfer Julian, who disappeared somewhere in Singapore. Little does she know that her own past will soon be catching up to her as we await the fourth and final installment of this PJ HPlandia suspense extravaganza outing.

Quite corny. It’s really a 2-star read and Penny Jordan can do much better. The heroine is a naive idiot. She is mistrustful of men because of a bad experience in her past when the man she thought she loved betrayed her. That doesn’t excuse her totally idiotic and stupid behaviour by going on her own, disregarding safety and good business practices. So of course she gets conned. She totally disregards the advice of the H, whom she trusted to interpret for her anyway.

The H, on the other hand, sounded like a corny over the top Pepe le peu type. No wonder the heroine didn’t believe his declarations of love at first sight.

I put back a star since I felt bad for the Hero. Despite his corny prose, he really was besotted with the heroine and he came through for her in the end, even if she didn’t deserve it.

A Treacherous Seduction is the third book in the series and deals with Beth. Beth is away for most of the first two books, buying crystal in Prague as a way of recovering from being dumped by slimy Julian Cox. It's not really a good time to get involved with another sweettalking guy.

Alex is English but with a Czech background so when Beth needs a translator, he offers himself. Beth is immediately suspicious, especially when he flirts with her, calling her beautiful. She has no choice but to use him to take her around to the crystal factories looking for the glassware she wants for the shop, but she resists his suggestion to go to his cousins factory, believing he is trying to scam her. Obviously Julian's betrayal left it's mark. She is especially annoyed when he warns her against the gypsy street seller who has exactly the glassware she is after.

The story is told mostly in retrospect as Beth mourns the fact that the glassware she received was cheap junk and not the beautiful craftsman made pieces she ordered.

She is also mourning the loss of Alex who she rejected unequivocally before she left Prague.

Alex is an adorable hero who is perfect for Beth, but struggles against her prejudice. The ending was satisfying.

This is the third book in the quartet, where four friends; Kelly, Anne, Beth, and Dee, try to get their revenge on scam artist Julian Cox.

The Mistress Assignment, Lover by Deception, a Treacherous Seduction, and The Marriage Resolution make up the quartet.

In this book, we meet the hopelessly stupid Beth. Honestly, what can I say?
Beth fell for Julian Cox, and he conned her into believing they were in love and should get married. When he realized her wealthy grandfather wasn’t going to die and leave her his money, he split, telling everyone she was stalking him.
Her friends send the distraught Beth abroad to Prague, so she can buy crystal stuff for her shop. Because going on a buying trip when you’re distraught is a good idea.
There she meets Alex, half Czech, half English, and fluent in both languages, who offers his services. First as an interpreter, then as lover!
Beth is so hopelessly dumb, that she spends the entire time suspecting poor Alex of nefarious doings, and then goes and falls for a con run by organized crime in the market!
Alex repeatedly warned her, so did her bank, and many others, but she didn’t listen.
Eventually, she has sex with him, runs out on him, and goes home where she has to wait forever for the sub-standard crystal.
Luckily for Beth, Alex hears about the conmen, and runs to the rescue, and they live happily ever after. Obviously he doesn’t really care about her intelligence 😜
Pretty much all of the above occurred in flashbacks and the previous books, and the present is a very small part of the book!
I gave this one three stars only because it is part of the quartet. Beth’s dumb behavior for most of the book aggravated me to the point of madness, and I had to force myself to read (well, re-read) it. The only reason I read it was because I hadn’t actually read the first two stories in the quartet, and I enjoyed them!
If you’re reading through the quartet, you’ll want to read this one just to fill in the gaps, but otherwise, give it a miss. Beth is way too stupid!

The h is a coldhearted bitch to the H. She has been hurt by a previous lover, but that’s no excuse.

The H is a sweetheart.

I didn’t really feel passion between them.

I think some of her others have been stronger. Too much looking back at memories for me.
