Honestly I remember this fondly as well.
Remember those? I loved dollar theaters!
I’ll stop here. That should give you the gist of it.
This seems to be an obviously biographical story. I thought I would connect with it more because we’re probably close to the same age and I also remember the revelation of seeing Star Wars when it premiered and how it inspired me.
The truth is, though that this kid had a much better life growing up than I did and to be honest, all his issues - while I’m certain were important and impactful to him - seemed pathetically trivial to me.
It also wasn’t funny. It also wasn’t drawn well.
Now he seems to have had a much better adult life than I did - and hey, he published a book which I never did, so he wins.
I just can’t recommend this book though. Hopefully it will inspire other kids, but me it just bored.
1 star for the triteness.
