Tense suspense story with the main couple (Elaine Younger and Brad Gibson) trapped alone in the Colby Agency building in Chicago on Christmas Eve with masked murderers. Brad thinks it has to do with him, Elaine thinks it has something to do with the Colby Agency. While the murderers get closer and closer, Elaine and Brad must hide and try to find a way out before they are killed.

This was an exciting and thrilling read. There wasn’t much time for romance in this book since Elaine and Brad were on the run throughout the story, but I didn’t mind. I loved the chase and the suspense as a winter storm surrounds the building and the city. I liked both Elaine (the Colby Agency receptionist, who was very gutsy at times) and Brad (who was offered a position with the agency). The bad guys seemed quite threatening and I wondered how everything was going to work out in the end.

This is the first book I’ve read by Debra Webb and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

My, my!, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. And it´s weird because there was hardly any romance there (as my friend Sandra warned me) but it was soooo romantic. And I can´t tell you what the suspense was about, but it kept me on edge all through the story.
So, now that I think about it, I can´t really tell you a lot about this story but that it was romantic, suspenseful and had awesome MC´s. And the author really caught my attention with the bits she thrown about former characters into this story.

Because all of the above: 4,5 stars… weird, isn’t it?
Guess like this year…

So... I found this in a holiday cottage and thought why not? I've never read any of the Intrigue series before and if this is indicative of the general quality, I won't be reading any more. So, the plot is as follows: it's nearly xmas eve - the staff party is planned, but the boss's husband is caught up on a flight which is circling snowbound Chicago. Meanwhile, the office block has been invaded by terrorists and only receptionist Elaine and some bloke called Gibson who doesn't even work there (although he has been offered a job) can stop them. The action then follows the pair around the office performing a series of inexplicable actions as Elaine bravely strives to save the contents of the stationery cupboard from possibly the world's most inept terrorists (who don't seem to know themselves why they've invaded the office - perhaps they were inspired by a film they'd seen - like Die Hard perhaps?) For a romance novel, there's not a lot of romance going on. For an action novel, it sits somewhere between nonsensical and plagiarism. The most shocking thing about this book is that it was published at all. I did laugh at the front cover though - in my version someone had tattooed 4p on the hero's bare arm. Seems a bit steep.

I have read several books in the colby series a few years ago. I saw this at a table top sale and got nostalgic. I wasn't let down. Competent and well written with plenty of twists, tension and action. All that with a simmering background of sexual tension between two strangers who have to help save each other and the agency they work for. What was not to like?
