I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.
Awww... How can you cry with just a short story? I did. Sienna / Hawke is my favorite couple ever and they'll be forever (unless Kit finds someone as extraordinary as Sienna).
Fun bit of extra for Hawke and Sienna. Had me laughing and then ahhing as he is grumpy because she is away for trainings. Missing his mate, Hawke finds a bit of surprising fun out on his run through the forest to get rid of his crankiness.
Love these little vignettes that give a slice of life with the characters.
This short little story encompasses everything I love about Nalini's writing, including the heart of her shifters, and the connection between the couples she creates. Utterly emotional and wonderful.
A short story that falls in at 14.2 in the Psy-Changeling paranormal romance series set in and around San Francisco. It revolves around three separate groups: the Changelings, the Psy, and humans. The couple focus is on Hawke and Sienna of the SnowDancer wolf pack.
This was a free short story from Singh's April 2017 newsletter. If you want to receive your own freebies, subscribe to her newsletter.
My Take Singh uses simple third-person subjective point-of-view from Hawke's perspective as he expresses his feelings and we read his mind about missing his mate. Some of that "mind reading" is too funny, as Hawke reflects on the punishment he handed out to the unruly juveniles…and what he intends to do to the next one who irritates him, lol.
Talk about growly boy, *more laughter*
The Story Hawke aches. He sulks. He scowls. Another two weeks of no Sienna. The pack will be lucky if they're not all bitten or on latrine duty!
The Characters Hawke is the Alpha for the SnowDancer pack of wolf changelings. Sienna is his mate.
Drew and Indigo are a couple of his lieutenants (Play of Passion, 9).
Kenji and Jem have their own dens within the SnowDancer pack and have skills to impart.
The Title The title is "The Song of the Wolf" changelings, as they answer their alpha.
This one was really cute. I loved how Hawke was missing Sienna, loved that he knew she needed to be away and let her. I felt sorry for those left behind in the Den, as Hawke was a bit surly. Good thing they knew just how to take care of him!
This is a really good short. Sienna has to be away from Hawke for a few weeks for some training and Hawke is not in a good mood because of her being away but gets a pleasant surprise in the end. :)
Hawke is suffering the absence of his mate while she visits other dens… She has been gone two weeks.. While he is on patrol he scents her… She has been suffering as well
This scene was so heart wrenchingly beautiful, I almost cried!
Sienna is travelling to the different dens in the packs to gain experience and to get all the pack to see their alphas mate. But while she is away, it hurts both her and Hawke to not see each other in person or touch.
Sienna had been away from the den for two weeks and was heading to another den for another two weeks but Indigo called her, to come home for half a day to be with Hawke because he was losing his shit. Turns out she was not much better but she manged to sneak up up to the main den area and set up a picnic for them. Hawke was on patrol when he caught the scent of her and thought some asshats were playing him and he chanced the scent intending to bite the perpetrators very, very hard, when it turned out to be Sienna herself! Both man and wolf were so happy to see her. The wolf spent most of the time with her, cuddling her & being petted by her. Then of course he changed to some man woman time lol
It was a lovely scene that was important in a way to the series. We cannot forget previous characters because they are still very important to the continued story arcs. I loved this scene and am so happy Nalini wrote it.
That being said, I still don't like Sienna but I love Hawke so much, I did not care.
Here’s all you need to know about this story: Nalini had the choice to have Hawke sulk in human form or wolf form and she went for full brood in his wolf form because he prefers it. I’m just-
Other things Nalini thought were Very Necessary to throw in (and which kept me absolutely calm, cool, and collected): Hawke pining for Sienna because she’s away from the den for a few weeks. Unleashing his mood on the main den and, in fact, the entire Sierra Nevada. The fact that Sienna is gone is because she’s going from den to den to learn new skills. Surprise cameo by Indigo to encourage Sienna to come get her man before his sulky mood destroys the entire den. Taking every opportunity to remind everyone that Sienna Lauren would give her life for Snowdancer. Throwing in a super casual “our territory”. Cool cool cool cool cool.
Psy-Changeling #14.2 This is a short story that was published in the April 2017 newsletter put out by the author. That's one of the things that I love most about Nalini Singh, she's all about sharing her short stories for free with her fans. "The Song of the Wolf" features Hawke and Sienna in a scene set shortly after "Shards of Hope". Enjoy!

One of the free short vignettes of characters that Nalini Singh does for fans. This one is about Hawke and Sienna who are apart as Sienna visits some of the other dens. I loved this one because it shows how Hawke and Sienna are growing together as a couple. It is sweet and I always love seeing these two.
Another Psy/Changeling couple I can't get enough of. Hawke is in a bad mood because he is missing Sienna who is off learning about the other Den's. Of course she comes to surprise him. Is it a little codependent? Well yeah, but when it comes to alpha wolves and cardinal X-Psy I feel it's pretty standard! :D
Poor Hawke over the edge with missing Sienna. She's been away a few weeks learning all she can from other pack mates. Hawke understands, with Sienna being so young and an alpha herself, she needs to learn. She surprises him though with a outside picnic, uniting with man and wolf.
Sienna and Hawke are missing each other even though her month long stint at the other dens training is a necessity. Hawke's temper is on a fine edge and a surprise visit for a picnic from his mate soothes both of them.
Super adorable! I love Hawke and Sienna so much! They're one of my top three couples to read in this series, so anytime I get to see a snippet from their POV or about their relationship, my heart just sings.
