Taja's Dragon can be found via the link below and by signing up to the author's newsletter. It is the second book in the Dragon's of Telera standalone series that explores Taja and Phelan's meeting.
Taja’s doll-like good looks had made her the plaything of nobles for most of her life, but now she wants to make her own path. Even under the acting stable master, life is better. When an attractive foreign noble continues to appear when she needs help, Taja begins to fear that she will be pulled back into the life she left.
The way Phelan treats Taja is not like his behavior toward anyone else. With her, Phelan appears to want only to see her happy. When he talks with anyone else, his attitude is rather cold and condescending. Yet he somehow manages to win people over despite his attitude.
Determination sets her on a new and dangerous path. The question is should she go it alone, or is the noble more than what he seems?
Lisa Daniels is a (young) retired school teacher who resides in Miami. After five years of teaching, Lisa Daniels found that it wasn’t quite the world that she wanted to inhabit. After leaving her position, she moved to Miami. She hasn’t regretted it.
In her worlds, Lisa Daniels creates characters that go beyond the usual narrative. While they definitively include romance, Lisa Daniels strives to make the worlds more real with characters that are more than just cardboard cutouts of the genre. All of the main characters (and many of the secondary ones) have a rich history that span much longer than the stories themselves. This makes it easy to weave the stories together so that you can see characters you met in previous tales and see how they have managed since.
The Dragons of Letera is her first standalone series. Letera is a world teaming with romance, action, and stories – it is a world that Lisa Daniels loves to explore with her readers, one character at a time.
This is well enough written but has some quite unpleasant content. A girl is described as having been abused by men and sold by her mother regularly, but is now a junior stable hand, and when we meet her a leering barkeep tells her she is getting too old. I would rather that, if trade in children is depicted, it's made clear this is not normal for any society and should be disapproved of by right-thinking people, not just by a stranger.
The girl is constantly fending off another groom and has to be deferential to everyone, and blames herself for her mother's alcoholism. When a stranger aids her, he makes it clear he doesn't want payment in kind. Only, of course, he does, but it isn't phrased that way; at this point the girl is under his control and he is the first person to have been kind to her and got her cleaned up (well she wouldn't be attractive dirty) so it might as well be Stockholm syndrome. What I'm saying is she does not really have a choice.
And next day as they ride off, she says she had completely forgotten he was a dragon shifter. I don't think you would forget that. No. And for some reason, a small coin is a dime. Now, why would that be? Why not a copper or clinker?
This is an adult romance short story. I downloaded an ARC from the author. This is oddly formatted in that several chapters are centred.
When I picked this up, it was part of a very long list of books given to me to read. I had no idea if it was a novella, a short story, a prequel to a series, a mid series short story or what. After reading it and finding out it’s a prequel to a series though I’m very much interested in reading the rest of this series. The MC is sweet and just trying to get through life and take care of a mother that doesn’t treat her well, in doing so she takes on jobs that don’t really suit her but makes due with anyway. Along the way she continuously has poor luck and keeps finding herself in tough situations, when a mysterious stranger comes along and saves her life, she becomes smitten with him. He continues to help her without wanting anything in return. Until a misunderstanding and a lie spoken from another lands her in jail, disowned by her mother and scheduled to be put to death. But again as she manages to get herself free and has nowhere to go she finds herself being aided once again by her mysterious stranger. Thus finding out why he is helping her, and thus acknowledging how her feelings for him has grown over the days. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to finding out what happens next for them during their journey. These characters are wonderful and well written. The writing for the story as a whole wasn’t the best but it was done in a way in which I enjoyed. The world that was splayed out for the reader was well thought out and detailed. All in all it left me wanting to know more and looking forward to doing so.

Such a cute wonderful novella that definitely pulls you in and keeps you wondering what will happen next in Taja's story.
This book is agreat start to introducing you to the storyline of these characters.
What Taja goes through in her life and what she finds out about who she truly is .Its just an amazing story. I got so hooked I didnt even realize I was almost done reading it.
And Phelen oh my what a great character. Mysterious and sweet and caring and nothing like the other men she has met in her life. What he reveals to her about her past will change her life forever.
This is the first book by Lisa I have read and I received it from her newsletter. This is a great quick book. It gets you ready for the series. Taja has not lead an easy life. She has been used for almost her whole life. Even now after making a choice to no longer do what her mother wants her life has not gotten easier. Phelan is a great character. He is like no man Taja has ever meet. He doesn’t want anything from her in return for helping her. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next. Dragons are one of my favorite shifters. Great job Lisa.
This is a quick and short story about a woman who has done some unsavory things in life in order to support her family and a handsome stranger.
The title Character Taja meet a stranger who not only saved her from getting run over by a horse and carriage but also I do know that this is a prequel to The Dragon's of Telera series. I will continue the series because I want to know what ends up happening to Taja and Phelan.
This is most definitely a prequel and a short story so you only get the beginning and there is the hint of so much more. Taja has been used and abused by so many that she has no idea what to make of the handsome stranger who continues to rescue her and wants nothing in return. If they do survive this last thing who know what will be in store for them.
A good story but a short story and one that I hope leads to a great series by this author who I have never read before but look forward to more.
Taja's Dragon by Lisa Daniels is #0 of her Dragon's of Telera. This is the first book of Lisa's that I've read but it most defiantly won't be the lady. I've already added the entire series to my to be read list. The characters are so full of detail description and life. You call completely see then in your imagination. There are characters that you will totally hate and ones that you will route for from the beginning. I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the series. I firmly believe Lisa fund her calling in writing instead of teaching.
Very cute short story that had the potential to become something greater. This story needed more development in both the story and characters in order for you to really get into their world. However, Taja and Phelan made you fall in love with them regardless with the creativeness that is there. Based on content this is for 18+ audiences. I am an independent reviewer for Romance Author's That Rock and am giving this 3 Hearts.
This was a short story....Taja a poor girl living with an drunk for a mother...trouble seems to follow her. She gets help from Phelan a man that's gentle and kind....you might say he's a saviour for her. He's also a dragon! The story was short and I wish there was more but what there was seemed good. Good characters and a good storyline.
I got this as an instafreebie. I am voluntarily reviewing this short story. It says its a prequel but I felt like this was a sidebar and that I should have read a couple of stories to understand what is happening. It's a fast read. It's cute and had potential. Interested to read more. I rated it a 3.5. So I as a hook it works.
Cute little story. The setting in time is a bit confused, with it sounding like olden days, then modern terms thrown in.
I didn't realize it was a prequel, don't like short stories, but I read on, and enjoyed Phelan and his ability, as well as Tasha escaping her horrible life in her home.
A great intro to the series. Taja is a hard working stable girl who just has bad luck. A stranger, Phelan, always seems to pop up just at the right time. He is a friend or foe? What does he really want from her? Well written. Couldn’t put it down.
It didn't feel finished... It left me with a lot of questions... who was her dad, what items of his did she get, why can't the Hero go home, what was set up in his room.... etc.
Excellent little short story finishing up the series just to bad wasn't part of the boxset. Each story including this one have twists in the plot leading from despair to joy.
