“Thrilling, witty and exciting. An explosively gripping journey you won't put down.” - Matt Jones
THE MOST WANTED MAN IN BRITAIN WALKS THE STREETS OF BROOKLYN WITH BLOOD ON HIS HANDS But this time it’s his own.
After narrowly escaping a brutal and terrifying death by a group of strangers, James Stone is stranded thousands of miles from home. Broken, alone, and plagued by the demons of his past, he knows that every second of his life is now on borrowed time.
Hundreds of miles away, Nicole Green walks out of a hotel room with a stolen rucksack. A bold decision that not only endangers her own life, but her younger brother’s too. All for the contents of one bag. Walking out was easy, but she knows that time is running out to rescue her brother before he pays for her sins.
Both Stone and Green are loners, and live by one rule. Trust can get you killed.
But as their paths collide, they begin to realise that having a second pair of eyes watching their back could turn the tides of their fate, and mean the difference between life and death.
Non-stop nail-biting action from start to finish. Jack Reacher, John Milton and Carl Logan move aside, because James Stone is here to cause some damage.
Sometimes I wish there were "half stars". I'd have given this 3 1/2 stars if I could have. The story itself was fine for the most part but the editing...not so much.
I don't usually say much about the editing. I kind of expect a few mistakes. But this had more than a few and it made it hard to understand at times. There were typos, sentences left hanging and wrong words used (several times it needed the opposite word used for it to make sense). The author used "ground" and "floor" interchangeably which just about drove me nuts (when guys get into a fight outside, one gets knocked to the "ground" not the "floor"). There were some things in the story just didn't make sense and I had to let them go as one of those "oh well" moments. You also have to pay close attention as the story gets going or you won't understand who is narrating.
On the plus side, it's a fast paced story with lots of action. You're always wondering where this is leading to or what's going to happen next. The James Stone character is troubled but likeable. I feel kind of sorry for all he's gone through. We still don't know how he got into this whole mess to start with but it's not bothering me too much yet. I kind of gather that Stone was in the wrong place at the wrong time but I'd like more details -- soon.
All in all I'd say it's a good story if you don't mind being patient enough to let this new author work the kinks out. I'd be willing to read a follow up James Stone story, hopefully one that has a different editor.
For those who want to know: This one has language and graphic violence.
No More Shadows by Robert Clark is a fast paced gripping thriller featuring lead character James Stone who after being tortured manages to escape and finds himself alone and thousands of miles from his home in the UK,there are some clues to his past but not all is revealed, certainly not in this book anyway. He eventually stumbles upon Nicole Green who appears to landed herself in some serious trouble and this is where the real story begins.overall a fast paced action packed and violent story, the only downside for me was when the story was told by both Nicole and James as quite a bit of it was almost word for word and just made the story longer than it needed to be and perhaps more complicated.I would probably read the next book and perhaps more of James’s past will be revealed. I would like to thank the author for the opportunity to read No More Shadows.
This is not usually my genre but I thought I’d try it for change. I found the storyline lacked any real depth . Even thought there was a lot fighting, blood and pain it got a bit too repetitive and how anyone could survive what they went through is beyond me.I couldn’t really warm to any of the characters but having said that I had to keep reading to see what happened. For anyone that likes action thrillers I’m sure they will want to hear more about James Stone.
I enjoyed it. This book starts off with a bang and continues with unexpected twists right through to the end. I would recommend this book to fans of James Patterson. Not for the weak of heart.
