Having graduated high school earlier, our cute girl zombie survivors now prepare to complete college, leaving behind childish things and some dead bad guys. Too bad the whole thing is a jumbled, hard-to-follow mess.
That was a brutal volume ... I LOVED IT! In this volume the girls try to escape from the gang that caught them. In the midst of confusion Kurumi disappears and the girls try to find her. Miki discovers that there are several types of infection and one of these is by air. Some people are immune to respiratory infection but there are as yet no reports of people immune to blood infection. One of the members of the gang is ill and in their desperation for an antidote aimed at the girls for this information. Kurumi is found by Yuki and she confesses about her deteriorating condition and her fear of a day turn. I really was touched in this scene. Anyway ... So many events have happened! I'm still not over it, but let's go to the next volume!
As I said with my Volume 8 review, I am already reading these when the chapters come out (once every month so far), but I wanted to re-read the volumes because there is a lot of things happening/coming and I want to freshen my memory so I am ready for everything!
A lot of things are happening in this one. We find out more about the zombie virus (which doesn't give much hope for the future, but then again, a world with zombies isn't really that full of hope anyway). I am quite curious who spread the virus, and if there is a way for a cure (Save Kurumi!), and what this means for those who are still surviving out there. What is the incubation time? Can it just hit you out of the blue? Is staying inside enough? So many questions, and I hope that the next chapters will reveal more about it.
It seems that Yuki is still having some delusions/is still protecting her mind (as evidenced when she saw how Kurumi was sleeping), but I don't mind it that much. It keeps her sane in a world full of destruction and hurt. Plus it does seem she is at least semi-aware of it.
Rii and Ruu, mm, it was quite interesting to see how far Rii is willing to go, risking her life. I did love what she did in the end. I am not sure if it was for protection, or if her mind unconsciously let her know it was time to let go, but it was something I didn't expect the first time I read that part.
Again there is a lot of tension as another guy gets infected. I do think it was a bit overkill to do that to him. :|
And thus starts a new arc. The university arc is now done, and we are now off to that corporation/cure/answers. At least I expect that we will soon head that way.
All in all, quite an exciting volume! Though I am glad we are now on the move again. Maybe we will get some more excitement.
Update general ya que voy leyendo a medida que salen cada mes los capítulos. Me encanta como se está yendo todo al carajo (?), pero en algunos episodios no pasa prácticamente nada. No creo que pase del tomo 12.
How is a moe zombie series so effective? Probably because under its cute girls trappings there's a very real, very frightening, very believable story about who we can become that is all too possible in 2020.
A messy way to finish out the college arc. Enemies never feel fully realized, and come and go as the story demands. They're less like antagonists and more like inconveniences that come out of nowhere with little to justify their actions.
Finished! Now I’ve read all the official volumes released so far in English. It’s entertaining, but not that great. The zombie apocalypse landscape we have seen so many times before, and now hat I’ve gotten this far I can see GG doesn’t do anything really new with the formula other than add cute girls and make them act cute. (So far as I can tell, the virus tends to attack men, which was only reconfirmed in this issue. Apparently there is also a blood borne virus and an airborne virus. A mysterious girl has been studying the zombies and has learned a few things about them, including the existence of the airborne virus. Which, unless she can talk to the zombies she has been experimenting on, presumably means she actually caught some humans and observed them to see if they got infected without getting bit, which is pretty creepy.)
I still like the characters, but the story is disappointing overall because it feels so unoriginal. The big reveal in this issue about Ruu-Chan surprised me, though. I appreciate that at least the manga explores some psychological effects of the apocalypse.

This volume did so damn much to advance the story and develop characters that it's going to be hard to get my thoughts down, so to summarize: -I love Kurumi and her entire arc so much and really loved the moment between her and Yuki in this -I am apparently an idiot and didn't realize Ruu was just a doll until this volume -The "chosen one" girl is fascinating to me -The "I love killing" girl deciding to maybe do that less because she's pregnant was unexpected -The one guy getting murdered by "chosen" girl was dramatic af After some earlier slowness with characters just planning the entire time, I loved how quickly the pace went here!

So how does one keep a series about zombies and school girls continuously enjoyable and intriguing? Make them suffer and watch them crumble and try to keep it together for each other (not to mention, sprinkle a little hope and laughter along the way). The human mind is a fascinating thing and even more so in this type of situation. I cannot get enough of this series! =D
Not a big fan of this arc, which has too many new characters that I don't care about, all acting like they've stepped from a bog standard zombie movie where the enemy within ends up being worse than the one without. Which is fine in the right place, but not in School Live.
This gets more confusing as it goes along. This volume says it ends a story arc; a new one will begin in volume 10. I have volume 10 but don't plan to look for any more.
