Adam Wright loves his city, his job, his close friends, and is content with his single status. But his unrequited crush on his sometimes drinking buddy, the seemingly straight Timmy, is shaking his ability to maintain the status qup.

Even if Adam doesn't want to admit it, his walls aren't as high where Timmy is concerned. Timmy is older, more outwardly confident, and full of surprises—not the least of which is the night when drinks lead to proof Adam's crush isn't so unrequited.

After they navigate Adam's anxiety and Timmy's own insecurities, their fairy tale may just have the happy ending they both needed time to realize they deserve.

Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.

It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

Adam has anxiety and a crush on his friend Timmy, who is straight. Except he's not. Timmy is fluid. Adam finds this out only after Timmy pounds his ass in a toilet stall on the ferry.

And they say romance is dead.

Adam is really insecure and inside his head a lot. He's the first-person narrator of this story, and he exhausted me.

Timmy I just didn't understand, like at all. He's 33, works selling tickets at the ferry, and lives at home. Adam has doubts about whether Timmy is boyfriend material, but then realizes it doesn't matter ... but it kind of does, right? Or am I being a superficial bitch?

Also, both Timmy and Adam (who's 30) talk like they're 18-year-old gangastas, man.

"Deadass. Shit's too heavy here."

Deadass means like serious, right? Not just DEAD serious, but deadASS serious, which is a thing.

"You cum like a fucking geyser too. You're fucking sexy, sir."

The "sir" doesn't belong, because what?

Am I just old and uncool? Do 30-year-old men in New York really talk like this? Please school me if you know something I don't.

This isn't a NA book, but it READ like a NA book, because the MCs felt so juvenile.

I almost DNF at 33% and again at 50%, but the story did pick up in the second half as Adam and Timmy finally talk about feelings.

Adam's pug Alice was a little attention slut, and I loved her.

There's some hot fucking and lots of talk about dicks and "sit on my face." Which YESSS.

But there's really no plot. The ending is a HFN. The editing issues were minor in comparison to some of Kade's other books, and that's always a plus.

Also, can we talk about the cover for a second? Timmy is Colombian and has darker skin. I am not seeing a Latino MC on the cover, and that bugs something fierce.

I thought this was adorable! Short, sweet, and sexy. Extra points for a Colombian main character!

I actually liked this. There are a few inconsistensies and some editing issues (and how is it possible that they hadn't echanged phone numbers, huh?). Some of the dialogue is the classic NY dudebro thing, but I got used to it. All in all it's a feel good story with a nice amount of steam and feels.

Aaaaand this book lost me at "son" because who the fuck calls the guy they just finished fucking "son"????

Plus all the gangsta talk??? I seriously thought Timmy is a black dude from the hood with about 50 pounds of gold chains hanging on his neck. Ugh! I pushed through even though I was ready to give up on this book after the first 30 pages; unfortunately, I raised the flag and admitted defeat 75% through.

There's fucking but there's no chemistry at all, and the few inconsistencies in the story line brought my rating down to 2 stars. This is by far my least favorite book Kade had ever written!

Review originally posted at Sinfully.

Ferry-Tale is a very sweet romance between two regular, somewhat awkward yet totally endearing guys, and I found myself smiling through most of it.

The story is told from the POV of Adam, a thirty year old copywriter living on Staten Island with his pug. Adam and his anxieties were very relatable for me and I just adored him from the start. Shy, introverted, a bit insecure and not quick to trust, Adam tries to keep his crush on Timmy compartmentalized so he doesn’t jeopardize their friendship since he’s also not clear on Timmy’s sexuality. He’s got a bit of an “Ice Queen” persona until you get to know him, but he’s had a tough time in the past. He has dealt with it and is in a good place, but he isn’t just going to let his guard down for anybody.

Timmy took me just a little longer to warm up to. You’re not really sure at the start what his situation is and what his intentions are when it comes to Adam. Is he just a really nice guy and trying to be a good friend, is he looking to experiment, is he hiding something or is he really into Adam, but not quite sure what to do?

Initially there are some misconceptions to work through and they have a difficult time communicating about anything that might have to do with feelings, but once they man up and talk their feelings out, the unromantic pair get pretty romantic. There’s so much heart in this book; in Adam, who I just wanted to give a big old hug. He doesn’t know what Timmy could possibly see in him and he couldn’t see through the friendly gestures that showed Timmy crushing on him just as much in return.

When I said earlier that these are just two regular guys I meant it. There is not an ab muscle in sight, they have boring jobs and we see their day to day existence. They deal with family, friends and exes and there is nothing crazy going on – unless you count semi-public sex on the Staten Island Ferry to be crazy, but I’m sure those bathrooms have seen worse! There are ups and downs as Timmy slowly cracks the through Adam’s defensive walls, and Adam tries to gather the strength to lay it all on the line for the man he’s quickly falling for. There is no major angst, but there are some hurt feelings along the way that need to be fixed before on both ends before they can even think of moving forward.

This is the first novella in the new Landmarks series of books by Kade Boehme and Felice Stevens and you don’t have to be a New Yorker to enjoy it. The story is a standalone and has a happy ending with a nod to a classic fairytale moment, but I’m hoping future books will give us an update on Timmy and Adam.

Perfect beginning to what promises to be a fantastic series

I'm a sucker for a good team-up.

Superman and Batman

Charlie Brown and Snoopy

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

Just to name a few.

So, when I heard about a new series being jointly written by Felice Stevens and Kade Boehme, I was incredibly excited. I have read virtually everything Ms. Stevens has published, and love her writing and characters. However, I was not as familiar with Mr. Boehme's work, having read only one of his books.

That, my friends, is about to change.

"Ferry-Tale" is the inaugural novella in "The Landmarks Series", a joint venture between Felice and Kade. Each book will use some of the unique landmarks in New York City as a backdrop to tell the stories. This is a fantastic concept, especially for those of us that have never been to New York City.

The book itself is grounded. What I mean is that the characters are real, with their own foibles and insecurities. They're not perfect, physically or emotionally. They don't hang out in a gym, or hit up the clubs. They drink, smoke, talk, and feel. It's these imperfections that really endear you to the characters. They're real, normal, everyday people.

The entire novella is told from Adam's perspective, and it's done almost conversationally. His colloquialisms give the reader fantastic insight into what he thinks, how he feels, and, more importantly, WHY he feels the way he does. If you didn't know any better, you would swear he was your best friend. You WANT him to be your friend.

Speaking of best friends, Willa is perfect for Adam. She has the ability to call him out when needed or give him just the right amount of encouragement to set him on the right path. The bond the two share is unique, and you can truly feel that it's strong.

Timmy is such a warm, caring, thoughtful person, although you don't know it right away. Adam comes to some realizations throughout the course of the story involving Timmy, and as he does, the reader knows that these are things that have always been there that but he's just now noticing. Almost like he's looking at a picture he's seen before and yet seeing something new. Simple, little things, not grand gestures. But more often than not, it's the little things that make the greatest impact.

I fell for this book. Hard. I could totally identify with Adam, the way he thinks, the way he feels. If this book is any indication of what is in store for the rest of the series, I am definitely in for the long haul.

I didn't love this. It was OK. I had a very hard time connecting and I couldn't figure out why even though both characters in their 30's came off so juvenile. The whole courtship felt so weird to me. I mean who the fuck talks like this. Some of the dialogue was just too much for me.
The relationship is based completely on a friendship that has been going on for a year but they don't talk on the phone or even have each others numbers. WIERD, WIERD, WIERD. The whole thing just didn't work for me. They do eventually talk about feelings and there is a HEA but they way we got there just didn't work for me.

3.5 real and steamy stars

I thought this had a really cute cover, but it didn't quite fit with how I saw Adam or Timmy. The outfits, their features, it wasn't quite right.
His ridiculously baggy, dark denim jeans that reminded me vaguely of JNCOs all the Bad Boys wore in my high school....
...He wore his black Yankees cap backward.

I liked the story, I may have been a little confused a bit with some of their stuttering conversations, but not too much. And the NY references were mostly lost on me because I have no clue about things in NY.
They are both in their 30s, but they read younger. They both have some heavy things that they have gone through and then it seemed like they put their personal lives on hold for years, not exploring any deep connections since their early 20s. The book isn't heavy at all, but they do discuss some things that went on in their past.

But let us discuss Kade's characters and why I liked this book. I really like that Adam and Timmy feel like real people. They are not perfect specimens of human beings. They eat crap and their bodies show it, they don't live at the gym, they have jobs that aren't necessarily careers, they have normal friends, they have messy pasts, flawed families, and soft bellies. And they still find each other sexy and beautiful and have amazing sex.
"You promised to sit on my face."

Hot, steamy sex.
And there is an attention whore dog. An adorable, smushed face dog.
I look forward to more books in this landmark series.

*** They met on the Staten Island Ferry transport, and were occasional drinking buds.
Adam thinks Timmy is straight, but he longingly wishes they could couple up. It's an unrequited love, until Timmy surprises Adam with a hot, toe curling kiss. We learn the internal thoughts of our men, their needs and hopes. Adam's had a rough time because his anxiety used to spiral out of control, these days he's better after meds and therapy. Timmy had been doing what his Mexican/American family expected, but he's not marrying for them. He's bisexual/fluid, and searching for the right one - and it could be Adam. I understood the New York accents, words, etc.. Being 30 and 33, they seemed to be younger, with angst. The cover looks like younger men.
Marvelous characters that capture your attention; lovable in their struggles. Our interest is engaged and we like the ancillary people as well. Their sex is wicked hotness, passionate and exciting. They get their Ferry-Tale ending, which is lovely.
A well written tale by Kade Boehme and Felice Stevens. I've read many books from each talented writer. The collaboration is tip-top.
Highly recommended ! ENJOY !

You know you are old when you have to google slang.

Google states that Deadass is slang for "seriously". There were times I understood it in context and other times I just didn't get it. Whatever, it is no secret I am a little old.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I'm not much for reading reviews before I read a book but it's hard not to see them in your feed. But you know, I seem to almost always enjoy Kade's work.

I found the deep down emotional side of the story to be very touching and I was truly invested.

Their future looks bright and shiny from here.

I nice easy read.

This had some editing issues and some inconsistencies that pulled me out of the story several times. I also feel like I would have liked it better if I lived in or even understood the mindset of a NYC resident. It had an insider feel to it that made me feel a little left out. Overall a good story, I did like Adam quite a bit.

First of all...That cover is EVERYTHING!! Love, love, love it and I love all things Kade <3 :)

Adam and Timmy had my heart. The both of them have insecurities and you feel for the both of them. I was on the fence about Timmy for a minute but I fell in love with him and how he was with Adam, who by the way is such a sweetheart. You can't help but root for these two. I found myself smiling so much that I wasn't ready for their story to end. This was a cute novella and I can't wait to see what's next.

I'm not sure if this should be classified as friends-to-lovers or not. I enjoyed it, but honestly, I'm a little confused by it all. I don't know what to think. Adam and Timmy seem to have known each other for a while, but the fact that they hadn't exchanged phones numbers, even as friends, seemed a little odd. I mean they'd meet up for dinner. hang out, Timmy would come to Adam's place- even straight guys exchange numbers with their buddies so I don't know why this would have been a thing with them.
I liked Adam's vulnerability, but Timmy kind of rubbed me the wrong way. And it was frustrating that Adam placed the blame for things on himself, when Timmy was to blame for a lot of it. Not that there were any major issues between them, mostly lack of communication.
They did seem to care for each other a lot, in their own odd ways, so I was glad they were able to work through their little dramas.
An enjoyable enough read for an afternoon.

Cute New York romance

This was a sweet romance set in New York and loosely given a Cinderella theme only there weren't really any ugly sisters or a wicked stepmother.

Instead we had Adam, whose anxieties meant he kept getting in his own way when it came to romancing Tim. Fortunately Tim was a persistent chap and eventually it all worked itself out.

There's low angst in this one and moderate steam and not a great deal happens other than the relationship development but it's a perfectly sweet read to while away an hour or so.
It felt more NA than supposedly two men in their 30s but I liked the Statten Island Ferry's role in the narrative.

I'm also not sure the cover accurately reflects the men described inside it though, which is a disappointing thing when one is supposed to be a Columbian sex god.

Short, sweet, and sexy. As with his other books, I found the characters to feel very familiar, like people I know and like. The dialogue always feels natural to me, even with ridiculous characters like Timmy. He's a stereotypical NY brodude, but he's sweet as hell. And as usual with Kade's stuff, the sex scenes speak to my soul. This is a good lift-you-out-of-a-funk read, which was exactly what I needed.

2.5* rounded down because of editing issues and overuse of the word "deadass".

This is a short and fairly sweet story of two 30-ish men who see each other frequently as one of them, Adam, commutes to his home on Staten Island. The other is Timmy and he works selling tourist tickets at the ferry dock. Both hang out at bar on the Manhatten side of the ferry terminal. While they have hung out a few times they have not exchanged phone numbers. This chronicles their getting together and going from drinking buds to lovers to a loving couple. With a good editing it would be a lovely short story. Sadly it really really needs that editor. There are issues with spelling, tense, typos, repetition, and my least favourite - internal consistency. Has Timmy met the dog before or not, have they fucked once or twice? Things like that drive me bonkers.

Smiles and emotions

Every time I read a story by Kade Boehme I am struck again by how much I enjoy his writing, his psychosis and his characters. Austin is sweet, anxiety ridden and funny. Timmy is real. Thank you, Kade for another wonderful read.

I actually really enjoyed this. Adam was so real. Yes, he had anxiety and I don't, but I could relate to him. The constant not asking because you don't want to know the answer. The aloof ,I don't give a shit, but I'm really actually dying inside, attitude really got to me. I think we all get like that at times. The constant questioning yourself. Yeah. I get it.

Timmy, he was complicated. At first I really liked him, but then I didn't care for him all that much. Then, all of a sudden he brought over Adam's favorite whiskey and I was back to liking him again. Adam's right. It IS the little things.

Did these two talk like they were teenagers and not 30 and 33? Yeah. I didn't mind too much though.

I wished we could have met Timmy's mom and I wanted to throw Kate out of the cab, but whatever. Not my mom. I have very low tolerance. Family or not. You don't get to fuck me over and then a few years down the road try to have a relationship. You just don't. Once you're out of my life, you're out. There's no getting back in.

I'll definitely be reading on in this series.

Kindle Unlimited Review

Fun and lighthearted and a tiny bit neurotic, Ferry-Tale is an overall hit with me. I did feel lost a few times when Timmy and Adam made reference to deeply emotional experiences from their pasts that hadn't been mentioned, before so I needed to make sense of those moments as best I could with the limited details I had. What drew me into the story was their honesty and, genuine personalities, and willingness to take a chance on each other.

So... this was a mess of a book. Problems with time being described consistently, numerous typos and jumbled sentences, Adam's anxiety was only named in the last quarter of the book so a lot of his behavior at the beginning didn't quite make sense, some of the writing was awkward (even beyond the typos), there were sudden emotional outpourings that also didn't seem consistent given the characters thus far... and yet I really liked it, there was something very real feeling about Timmy and Adam and the way they were with each other that made this worth reading and that makes me want to read more.

I've skimmed through reviews of others of his books and it seems as if the problems I had with this one are across the board so I'd appreciate recommendations.

I most wanted to read "Trouble and the Wallflower" but with so many typos etc. I won't buy it in print and the ebook price is just above my internal cutoff for ebooks.

Enjoyed that one. Sure, it was again pretty short and we don't really get to know the characters that well but all in all, it was nice.

I just really missed the characters' stories. It was just lacking the emotion in a way. I mean our main Protagonist seems to have been through a lot and yet we only get glimpses at his past. Don't get that. It's part of who he is today so why don't we get more info? Why doesn't Tommy demand more?

The ending... Well it was there. In a way.

Characters?
Intriguing.
Liked both of them. Could definitely relate to Adam and his anxiety. Loved Tommy for not giving up easily.

Rating?
I'm really unsure... I gave other novels with no background stories for their characters 3 stars... But I just like the MCs... Don't know..

This might be the the most perfect, beautiful book Kade had ever written. I haven't smiled so much reading in such a long time as these two boys managed to fill my world with happiness for a few hours. This novella is the first in the Landmark series and it's off to a brilliant start.

Adam, so afraid of getting hurt has this self-protective wall up even though he is falling hard for Timmy. If he takes that leap and starts believing that what they have may be something epic, he could get that HEA after all.

Totally enjoyed this book..Could not put it down until I was done...It was just what I was looking for. It was sweet, snarky, sexy and little angsty!! I loved Timmy and Adam! I'm digging the novella length as well because life is busy right now...Don't be fooled by the length however, as this was a complete story!! Looking forward to the next one. Hoping to get another glimpse of Timmy and Adam in the future pretty please!! This book is from the Landmark Series Kade is writing with Felice Stevens...Looking forward to her book next!!
