Once upon a time, I believed in fairytales.
But then he took me.
And he taught me that life isn’t a fairytale.
He is scarred. Broken.
A dark and wild thing.
His beauty is violent and his words are cruel.
His heart is a shadowed landscape where nothing can grow.
He tells me he could never care for me, and he proves it every day.
He’s destroyed my life.
Tortured me.
And worse…
He’s trained me to beg for his affection.
This prison is a place where sunlight doesn’t reach.
He taught me that hate is born in darkness.
And then he taught me that sometimes love is too.

I just didn't love this like I thought I would, sadly.

But luckily, I roll with the punches, and sometimes thems just be the breaks, son.

description

And since I'm not "middle class," I prefer to refer to myself as "Classy Cowboyed Up," I shall never admit defeat and continue on.

Before I do though, I'll give you the short version of why I didn't love this thing as much as I anticipated:

1) Despite this disclaimer:

"This book contains dark subject matter. Wait, let me rephrase that. This book contains DARK subject matter. Please read at your own discretion..."

This was me during what I guess were the "dark" parts:

description

Whoops.

I have no excuse, except SOULLESS.

And DEAD INSIDE.

description

2) I wasn't able to buy in on the Stockholm front.

description

Bella's breaking and torture felt rushed and happened mostly off page in an "over the next three weeks, he did [insert something supposedly nefarious here]" kind of way and it resulted in me just not being able to believe in Bella being "broken."

3) All of ^^^THAT prevented me from ever feeling any real connection between Bella and Javier.

In short: I just didn't believe in their love.

And that's what we in the romance world call an OBSTACLE, my friends.

description

On the positive side, if we were rating this based on just the cover, it would get a million fucking stars, obviously.

I am not one of those people who really gives two fucks about the covers, but I do notice when they are exceptionally hideous or exceptionally...exceptional.

As is the case here.

description

Oh my ovaries.

But anyspankbank, I think I might have simply expected too much from this.

Zavarelli's Boston Underworld is one of my favorite series of the last few years and this one, by comparison, just didn't have the same quality character development, in my opinion.

Overall though, this was a quick and mildly entertaining enough read that they I think a lot of other people - who like dark romance and haven't already read too many stories this one - will enjoy.

"He is everything. The light and the dark. The solace and the pain. The torment and the peace. And I can't imagine not having him here with me. I can't even consider it."

 photo 1495334867175.jpeg

Wow! What an ending! I've experiences ALL the emotions while reading this one, folks! My feelings mirrored Bella's. I started out curious and ended up in love. It was a tough journey at times, but one I definitely enjoyed and will likely revisit time and again. Beast is definitely not your grandmother's version of the story. Twisted Ever After is definitely an apt description here. For those considering diving in and wondering how dark is dark, I can't really help you there. It's out of the box, unorthodox, and definitely has situations/circumstances that are outside the lines of what we see in typically romance, but isn't that what you expect when you pick up a dark and twisted tale?

Here's the breakdown: Javier is a monster. He's been lied to and abused most of his life. After undergoing intensive training and conditioning he sets out to get revenge on the one man he feels betrayed him. Bella is trapped. She's a wilting flower in a shiny cage. Believing her father to be missing in action, she attempts to gather information about the case he was working before disappearing. Her search leads her to true cage, she never expected.

"I was looking in the wrong direction. Because monsters don't always come from the darkness. Sometimes, they hide in broad daylight."

What I loved: The parallels to the original story. This story is contemporary and contains dark and sexual elements, but follows a similar pattern as the original tale. I loved seeing how the author modernized elements of the story using contemporary romance. It's really ingenious!

The storyline is the true stay - the twists and turns are unbelievable! I didn't see them coming. The story is intricate, well planned and plotted, and totally captivated me. Whew! It was a wild ride! I'm ready for more NOW!

While the characters aren't my top faves, I enjoyed learning more about them over the course of the novel. Their interactions and indiscretions, relationships and betrayals, and overall development and transformations are all satisfying. I can't wait to find out more about River and his love!

My main critique is that I wanted more relationship development between the MCs. If sweet Javi had a little more time to shine, it would have helped to cement the love story. The shock of their early coupling would have felt a bit more organic with just a smidge more sweet Javi.

Overall, I really enjoyed it! This was one of my most anticipated dark reads of the year and it did not disappoint! A. Zavarelli never fails to bring me to my knees. If she truly feeds off the tears of her readers, I just offered up so many. The ending is the BEST!

Aah! Thank God this is over!

Serves me right, though, with my OCD.

I have a thing with books; I rarely leave them unfinished no matter how torturous they are to continue.

Jesus!

The author warned that this was "dark" and maybe I'm a such a messed up person that nothing fazes me anymore, or this book wasn't dark at all or at least not enough to merit a warning.

It also wasn't entertaining,

despite the praises of it from some of my book friends.

The heroine was sooooo boring! Her backstory and development and "conflict" were so fucking snore-worthy.

Jesus Christ. And she didn't wait for long to "fall in love" with her captor.

Um, girl, you do realized that this man kidnapped and is torturing you, right?

At least, wait a few chapters before ogling him and letting us know how "attracted" you are to him...

Both of the protagonists were so dull. Their motivations were seriously lacking as well as their chemistry.

Was gonna give it a one-star but the epilogue deserves a star.

That was nice "twist" at the end, lol, you almost got me feeling something for the heroine for a second...😂 lol

4.5 "tale as old as time...
...as dark as it can be..." stars

A different take on Beauty and the Beast tale, taking us into a modern day, dark and intense story of a young woman Isabella Rossi , a star of a reality show, a woman that got swamped and suffocated by the highlights of the business industry machinery and she got lost, burying her own inner voice that seeks a different kind of outlet, one that no one has ever heard...and she longs for an escape...

Her life would suddenly change for the worse, when she's taken by a very dangerous man, a genious/psychopath that has a vengeance of his own to fulfill and Bella is the very essence of it.

The depths of connection between Bella and her captor, run deep into her own family ties covered by lies and betrayal as she's being punished for her father's crimes against this Beast of a shattered man hidden behind the cruel, ruthless and merciless actions and mind games that he unleashes upon her....

the lines of lucid reality & monstrous darkness soon become blurred and twisted when Bella's inner voice that holds a darker tone breaks free and her captor's inner Beast becomes attuned to the vibrance of that voice...leading them both towards the breaking point with no turning back...

Ashleigh Zavarelli proved again that not only she can take on the mafia in her books but she can also take down the darkness within, delivering such an intense, gripping storyline that will make you question the limits of right and wrong, those same lines being blurred into unrecognizable pile of emotional cluster and tension.

That part worked fantastically for me but somehow my gut tells me that this particular story would cross that line of excellence if it had stayed totally within the darkness, without a HEA. I know it sounds strange but I usually have to find that "transition" from dubious darkness into the acceptance without having any doubts about it being credible. So, that's the overall feeling I got after reading.

Nevertheless, I LOVED the already mentioned intensity of dark actions and very descriptive motions that main characters go through and I am quite positive that my own "dark" compulsion will not deter any of you from finding the satisfaction within the ending these characters find for each other.

"Sing me a song, beauty.
With words only I can hear."

Wow, such a great story! I liked it and enjoyed it and I don’t know why! I really tried to hate it but I couldn’t. I hated and loved it at the same time! I liked that darkness and angst within it!
The cover is really beautiful and colorful but this story is black and white, beast and beauty! I like this cover but I think it can’t show the true story of this book. it doesn’t show the real beast who lives I this story.

Isabella is a famous singer but she doesn’t enjoy her life as much as she likes. Her life is a series of robotic events. Now her father went missing during a job and of course she doesn’t know anything about his work. But she remembers her father always talked to her about some one, named Javier, with kindness and adoration so she starts searching for this Javier but she doesn’t know Javi monitors her every movement for sometime!

"You can’t choose who you love, for better or worse."

When Javi was just a boy (something like ten-year-old), he thought he killed his own mother. They took him from asylum and after that they started to train him (or must say torture) for killing. But when he was older he found out every thing. Now he wants revenge. He wants take out all his angst on her. he wants to break her like when they did to him. He really is a BEAST.

"I want to hurt her. I want to mark her. I want to witness her blood contaminated with the blackness of mine."

Some thing that I didn’t like about this book was, I didn’t feel any remorse from Javi about what he did to Bella or I liked the author punished him just a little for what he did to her. I wanted to see that but I must add I really enjoyed the ending.

The story-line is perfect. The characters were well-written and the story was well-paced. It’s told in dual POV, 1st person. it can be read as a standalone, and I like to know more about River with his obsession with apples! So I hope the next book is about him. All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I hope you like it as well!

I LICKED THE COVER SO HE'S DEFINITELY MINE * SORRY NOT SORRY*

WARNING "This book contains DARK subject matter.
Please read at your own discretion.”

BEAST by A. Zavarelli is the first in this contemporary romance series (Twisted Ever After) and is the darkest this author has ever gone before, reader discretion is advised. This is not a fairy tale, there are no unicorns farting glitter, it’s dark, it’s sick and gritty, and it’s insanely good. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’

This review is only going to be brief as I don’t want to wreck it for others after me.

Isabella Rossi is an up and coming American pop singer who just recently has been in the tabloids due to her father missing whilst on a job overseas, presumed dead, no trace has been uncovered. As a contractor he worked for the CIA & NSA.

The house she returns to when she needs solace more often than not a flurry of crimson withered rose petals are always on the front stoop, never knowing where they came from, but only when they started appearing, the day of her father's disappearance.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This weaved an intricate tale of such dark, gritty, proportions. It was hard to work my head around most of the happenings going on in this book, the author truly stepped out of the box with this one, you can not compare it to any of her previous works.

Beast aka Javi I found was a hard character to connect with, he’d had despicable things done to him as a child which turned him into the beast he was today. As you progress further into this you have compassion and empathy for his character, slowly he creeps under your skin.

Beautiful things were mean't to be broken

His one downfall was Isabella he had an uncharacteristic obsession with her since she was a young teenager. He knew no bounds when it came to her.

I want her tears. Her fears. I want the darkest and most intense parts of her. I want to punish her.

Until he took it that one step further and kidnapped her he wanted to own her, break her, he wanted her to beg for mercy. He wanted to make her his little play toy at his beck and call. There was only so much Isabella could withstand before she crumbled.

My submissive. So broken. So degraded. Her father would be so ashamed. Appalled.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The cover called to my ovaries but Beast had me running for the hills!! In the beginning was my worst nightmare come to life within the pages of this book, you never knew what he was doing to do next, an unpredictable man hell bent on destruction.

Are you ready for ‘Beast’ because once you start reading he'll have you in his clutches until that very last page read. Nothing compares to this book. This author has come out guns blazing with her dark side. Heed the warning. I think why I enjoyed this one so much is because you can’t compare it to anything out there..

I can’t pinpoint where this didn’t make a five star read for me, I guess it moved too fast from the point of the kidnapping to him claiming her, I needed more fight from her character, she was broken way too fast. That is the only downfall for this book (this is only my opinion)

* One teaser is off the authors facebook page but I've modified it slightly *

Everyone loves a good fairytale. Whether it’s the knowledge of knowing were going to get a happily-ever-after or just being giddy and embracing the childhood dream, fairytales has always been a long standing love of ours. But this book wasn’t your ordinary story of prince charming coming to the rescue and riding off in the sunset with birds chirping in the background. As the tagline so eloquently stated, “This isn’t your mother’s fairytale”, they are so freakin right! Prince charming ladies and gentleman, needed his head examined.

“Beautiful things were meant to be broken. “

Isabella should be on top of the world right now. After winning a singing competition show, her road to stardom is officially paved with glitz and glamor and when you have that, your happiness should be at the forefront. But she’s not happy, in fact she’s quite miserable because the one person who she loves more than anything in the world, is missing. Determined to find out what exactly happened to her father, Bella decides to do her own investigation and find the person who her father was close to but what she’s about to encounter is far worse than she could’ve ever imagined.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Javier is not your normal guy. He has ALOT of issues that would make any sane person cringe. Keeping himself secluded from society, Javier knows that he’s a beast and unleashing that on someone will have a fatal ending. What happens when the Beast gets a hold of his innocent beauty.

“I want her tears. Her fears. I want the darkest and most intense parts of her. I want to punish her."

Will he break her?
Or will Bella teach him something other than violence?

I had a difficult time connecting to the story in the beginning but I must say that when I reached the second half, this story really held its own and I couldn’t stop reading. I loved seeing the softer side to Javier and knowing that he was human after all with being vulnerable in certain scenes. Bella was a tough heroine that didn’t give up and I admired her strength and determination.

Now for all my dark lovers that are wondering just how dark this is on a scale of 1-10, I would say this is a 5 in my opinion. I’ve read some EFFED up sh*t in my years that makes me question my own sanity, so what’s dark for you, is most likely child’s play to me. If your looking for something completely different,, this book is most definitely for you.

Genre: Romance (dark)
Setting: Somewhere in Moldavia
Cover art: 5/5
POVs: Dual, 1st person
Triggers: Yes.
HEA:

Ray Rossi is missing. His daughter, Isabella, is barely holding on by a thread while she waits to hear more news about his mysterious disappearance. She's a public figure marketed as a pop princess and can't take a leave of absence to search after him while at the height of her career.

Javier Castillo lives his life in seclusion and secrecy. He has a connection to Isabella Rossi and he's about to let her know all about it...

Two words to sum up this book? Stockholm syndrome. Does this book place an interesting twist on the Beauty & The Beast fairytale? Yes. There's a monster-ish looking guy and a beautiful girl in this story, but that's where the similarities end.

At first glance, the formatting of this book made me cringe! The endless choppy sequence of sentences wasn't inviting, but once I started reading this story, it quickly sucked me right in! I loved how there was a smooth layer of intrigue and suspense building up as the reader watched Bella's psychological unraveling. Unfortunately, I didn't really connect with the characters as much I'd hoped to. Javier's repetitive you-are-mine dialogue and Bella's lines of cliched thoughts didn't really appeal to me. I liked the darker scenes between Bella and Javi , but there was just something missing from this book for me. Javi was childlike in his actions and emotionally stunted, while Bella had daddy issues and was very needy. Together the two complimented each other, but I didn't fall in love with either of these characters. I was too convinced that Bella's "love" for Javi was strictly induced by mental conditioning.

◆This book is not my favorite written by this author but I applaud her for writing the darker content. I assume book two will continue with River's story and I'm looking forward to reading it!

Genre: Dark Romance/Fairytale Retelling
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Isabella (Bella) Rossi's passion was music. Unfortunately, she was jaded after being manufactured as a pop princess. Her popularity started to become a burden especially after her father's disappearance

Javier Castillo was a recluse who lived in the shadows. Coming from a dark past, he had only one thing on mind - revenge. But things get complicated when his path veered the other way around.

Before I was an adult reader, I read a lot of fairytales. I think it's always nice to go back to it especially when it's darker and much dirtier lol!

He is everything. The light and the dark. The solace and the pain. The torment and the peace.

The book started quite well. I like how the author combined darkness with mystery/suspense in this Beauty and the Beast retelling. I was happy with the darkness level and the sex scenes were hot. But as the story progress, the element got diluted.

I like her shattered. I want her tears. Her fears.

I don't think I ever warmed up to Bella. She seems very shallow and too easily accepting. I like that Javi is dark and mysterious. However I wasn't convinced of thier connection. It felt mostly superficial. Also, her "breaking down" was too fast to be believable.

"You said you would always keep me," I remind him.
"Always."

Beast is a story of accepting one true self. It would appeal to fans of dark adult fairytale.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️STARS
Release Date-17/5/17

Beast (Twisted Ever After, #1) is a really dark twisted tale loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast and it was so deliciously despicably good.
It was a tale of right and wrong where the boundary lines were ever so much blurred and obscured.
And begs the overall question is an eye for an eye fair.
And is it right that the innocent should pay the cost for the sinner's actions.
That the horrors once visited upon your head you bestow on a blameless young girl ultimately to punish said sinner.
And also then in the grand scheme of things will it actually make you feel better and less broken to shatter someone else.
Beast is told from both Javi and Bella's POV and apart from the occasional visitation from a few minor characters these two are really the main event.
with the story focused mainly on them both.
And what a performance to behold it is.
As Javi systematically sets out to annihilate and destroy Bella all for her father's actions.
And Bella crumbles so tragically with Javi's harsh treatment.
Then is again confused and left floundering by his seemingly affectionate actions totally contradicting himself in an effort to break Bella down emotionally.
This was at times a very dark and brutal read but slowly a flicker of connection sparks drawing these two into a new dynamic.
And I could see a light in the distance.
And As they slowly fall deeper down the rabbit hole we get to experience the descent with them.
So I really enjoyed Beast, and though at times Javi was hard to understand and like I did get the where and why of it.
Bella herself was such sweetheart with a total lack of belief in herself which was so sad considering her character and individual talents and as this story progresses she slowly starts to come into her own and I was her one-woman cheering squad urging her on.
So This was so well written and easy to read and I found I especially adored the epilogue.
Was a lovely look into Javi and Bella's future.
On a final note just got to say, that cover, man its hot loved it so much.
I am very Happy to recommend Beast it was a great read.

I think I'll be sleeping with the light on tonight.

I tried, but that was more than I could bear.

Sorry Ms Zavarelli, but I ain't as tough as I thought I was. If I'm reading with one eye open and ready to hide under the bed now, there's no way I will make it to the end.

Fans of the dark will love this one.

This was a failed attempted at reading outside my comfort zone. Beast was just too dark and twisty for me. There is damaged heroes and then theres Javi *shudders* The whole stockholm syndrome thing was not romantic, the "Hero" (and I use the term very very loosely), Javier, is horrible and not redeemable at all. The fact that he enjoys and gets aroused by the h's tears was all kinds of wrong. Especially since he enjoys causing her to cry, in pain, in misery, in anger, and he especially enjoys when he humiliates or degrades her.

I get that pain can be a form of foreplay and/or arousing to some but this book just confirmed that is not my jam. When the "H" chokes out a crying and scared h after mentally breaking her by playing ruthless mind games to fuck with her head. Not for me.

When the "H" carves the word "Mine" into her forearm and enjoys the blood that oozes out of the cuts he inflicted on her body. Not for me.

When the "H" humiliates the h in front of OM, forces her to blow him while OM watches, then blind folds her to a table (naked) and allows her to think she is being raped by OM while he stands by. WTF! At this point I really wanted Bella to escape only to come back and have her own twisted revenge on this a-hole. I kept thinking there had to be a really good reason why Javi was doing this but it just never materialized. Yes, his childhood was ruined by her father but the fact that he knows Bella is completely innocent of her father's sins but is still determined to break her was just insane. He never was able to redeem himself and I didn't get why Bella fell in love with this guy. (The cover model yes, but Javi? Nope, don't get it).

Then there's the whole dubious consent vs rape thing. For me, it was rape. And that shit is never romantic.

IMO this was a huge romance fail. There was no romance or soft feelings at all for the first like 90-95% of the book. Unless you consider slapping, choking, mental mind fucks, terror tactics, blackmail and manipulation, romantic. When Javi starts to finally soften towards Bella it was way too little too late after all the shit he did to her and I think at this point he'd been so horrible that any kindness no matter how small was seen as a huge success/improvement but looking at the big picture all Javi needed was a really good psych eval and years of therapy. He's got issues that can't magically be cured with the illusion of love. And thanks to his treatment of Bella, she's gonna be right next door in her own padded room.

This will be hard for me to do because I really like this author. I liked her earlier books because it was filled with steam and the storyline was just my jive. Her mafia series is pretty good too and so I was excited to see a different genre from this author. Also I love her Facebook posts because I find the author sweet and genuine.

I also wanted to write my reasons why I didn’t finish because I don’t usually send them in an email anymore.

I SIMPLY didn’t connect with the characters on this one

I’m a dark junkie, hardly anything makes me cringe when I read these kinds of books. Kidnapping is kind of my jam when it comes to dark books so I kind of had high expectations on this one.

First off

First, I HATE to say this but I didn’t like the writing style, especially towards the Hero. The thing about dark books, when you have a Hero that is going to be the villain at the same time, DO NOT spell it out for me how much he is a monster. The inner monologues of the Hero telling me how much of a horrible person he was… it was just too much. I rather see action.

The parts where he That’s the dark stuff I’m looking for. Not his inner monologues.

Second

The contradicting reflections of the Heroine. The parts where she said she loved it and hated it at the same time was kind of typical. I’ve read so many of these types of Heroine, I was just like, okay I get it. You feel gross because of what’s happen, but it gets you off. Usually this doesn’t upset me, but for some reason I couldn’t get past this. (This isn’t probably an issue, but it added up)

Third

I didn’t understand the pace. I felt like the Heroine didn’t put up enough fight. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a damsel, but the girl was kind of sad. I wanted her to be strong and a warrior. I’m not use to girls like this!

Fourth

I couldn’t get into the storyline! Yes, there is a storyline and I wasn’t sure if everything fit right. Let me say this, I love a good mystery to a book, but this one just kind of didn’t click for me. The Heroine’s dad was killed? Missing? Was the Hero a part of it? I don’t know, I was distracted with all the inner monologues to really follow.

Also, some parts didn’t make sense. Like when

So, I’m sorry that I couldn’t finish the book.

This is one of those rare times I want to read a book simply for it's cover and title. No clue what the plot is. But that cover!

5 Hot, Wicked and VERY Sexy Stars!!!!!!!

Wow do I love this author and her books. Her storylines are captivating, her characters are intoxicating and her writing style never ceases to amaze me:)

OK, now there is a warning at the start of the book hat this is a DARK read......Please heed the warning because there is nothing that makes me more angry than when an author clearly states a warning and yet readers will get mad and give low stars BECAUSE of what they were already warned about....ughhhhhh lol So YES, this is dark, YES, this is twisted and warped and so "wrong" on so many levels BUT my oh my was the story so RIGHT for me lol!!!!

Javi....oh emmmm geeee, this man, this sexy, perverted, dark and damaged individual.....oh gosh he was spot on perfect and Bella......I absolutely loved and adored her. Together they were so damned PERFECT and the sex was EXPLOSIVE and hot and twisted at times and it was so freaking HOT...oh did I mention that already! Both characters were just.........perfect in every single way.

I was awarded a free day of doing nothing and I couldn't wait to read this and let me say that once I started, I never put this book down! I was captivated from the start and was glued on the edge of my seat until the very end. The story flowed seamlessly and perfectly, my attention was held hostage until the very last word was read. I couldn't get enough, as I turned each page I was not sure what the hell was gonna happen next, it was mysterious and tough to read at times BUT it was just utter perfection for me!

Congrats AGAIN Author A. Zavarelli....you did it again, another Grand Slam!!!!! I am curious about River and assume we will be getting his story in the future and I for one, can't wait:)

6 "I DID NOT EXPECT TO LOVE THIS BOOK. AT ALL" STARS!

description

Man, I devoured this book in one sitting. I have forgotten how much I adore my dark reads book. This is what I have been missing for the past couple of days. I'm on dark reads binge again.

This book is somehow similar to Take Me with You in certain aspects. I have only read her Boston Underworld series (only two of them) and her other works did not appeal to me so I was debating whether I should indulge in this book or not.

Best decision ever made.

I wouldn't classify this as OTT dark romance. There are certain parts gritty and raw but nowhere OTT.
Yes, there are non-con, dub-con, anal play, etc etc. but hey, if you're in dark reads that should have been expected!

Characters are loveable, gotta love my men raw and tortured bruh. Gotta love 'em all. It amazes me to see Javi's character development. We never get to see the deal until the end and that's why I am on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Epilogue is adorable, always got me when there's babies or daughter present yo.

Trigger Warning: This is a dark romance novel. It contains scenes such as abuse, kidnapping and degradation. This book is not for everyone and read at your own risk.

Beast is a dark romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's fast-paced, edgy and gritty. Multiple times the scenes made me uncomfortable and it's definitely cringe worthy. The book is about a popular singer Isabella Rossi. Being a Pop Princess is not what she wanted to be. It doesn't speak to her soul but for publicity she will. Her father works in an agency and was reportedly missing. She's advised not to meddle on her father's business and must keep herself safe because her life is in danger.

Javier Castillo is a mysterious and dangerous man with a grievous past. He plans to seek revenge by abducting Isabella and break her soul in every possible way. However, he's mesmerized by her beauty and innocence and was undeniably attracted to her. Will he be able to fight this attraction and continue his revenge or he'll give in to her despite of being a monster?

The plot is good and intense. It reminds me of Raw by Belle Aurora and Debt by Nina G. Jones. However, the character development was minimal and I'm not a fan of Javier. He's a psychopath and all the things he did to Bella was unforgivable. Bella was okay, she's a little weak though.

I've never read anything by A. Zavarelli, and I don't know if I will again. That's not because I didn't like her writing-in fact, BEAST is extremely well written. I just don't think I can get behind this genre. I'm not knocking anyone who can, it was just way too intense for me. It was too raw and disturbing.

That life, if you can call it that, was far too morose for me. I gave it a go. I finished it. And in all honesty, I was consumed by it. I couldn't even try to actively NOT think about it. Javier and Isabelle were constantly on my mind. Books like these screw me over because I am cannot concentrate on anything else.

BEAST was insane. Literally insane, clinically insane, cruel, sick, twisted and down right CRAZY with a capital C. But I still couldn't put it down. Like a car accident, I couldn't look away, I had to know how it ended. The Urge was unavoidable. I caved and succumbed to the madness, and all the lies and deceit sucked me in and drove me a little bit capital C crazy, too.

This story is THE darkest book I've ever read. Evan though I was partially appalled at the events taking place, I also understood where the motivations were coming from and in turn it helped me move forward and continue on with the journey and the "love" story of our Javi and Bella.

A well told tale of the darkest love I've ever encountered. As sad and heartbreakingly horrid this story was, it was beautifully done and exceptionally constructed.

Phew 😅 I mean where do I even start, cause I have so much feelings for this book that I'm just going to be blunt and say this is one dark angst crazy effed up kind of a read.

So, I read the excerpt and thinking that it was going to be all flowers and chocolates but nope not even. I'm not one for dark tortuous, taken against her will and then abused type of reads but it's like I hated it one minute then swooned omg 😲 yes I swooned like an idiot 😂 and I was feeling all hot for this crazy madman Javi/Beast and then the way he treated Isabella to flipping making me want to say WTF woman omg 😲 like what is wrong with her 🤦‍♂️ I didn't get the gist of the storyline as to why Javi did all this but eventually it unravels and I was surprised and at times I was put off with all the torture but I'm not sure for me if I was open enough to accept it and to how quickly Isabella fell for Javi. No matter what happened though the last two chapters had me choke up but it'll leave you breathless.

A Zavarelly is best for her complex story of revenge. She conjures a brooding, broken, dark twisted hero who always melt heart. Beast is a twisted adult version of Beauty and the Beast. I also sense Phantom of the Opera on this book. I have mix feeling towards Miss Zavarelli works. I like her works OK. I think its because so many layers of complexity of revenge and characters clashing with each other.

I found the complexity is too much for me. I like complex story but in Beast, I feel like it is glorified sexual assault. I cringe at some of the part of this book. BTW triggers are everywhere. The steamy sex scene is hot. But I do not feel it contributes to the story and characters development.

This was a hot mess. The story just completely fell apart at the 90% mark and I almost gave up. Beast is just another example how rape and kidnapping are incorrectly romanticized in romance books. I've read a lot of really great dark books where the hero's redeem themselves; this is not one of them. The hero did a lot of really fucked up stuff and in no way got my respect back. The reader needs to want to root for the couples HEA, and I was rooting for it to fail.

Edit:

Not what I was expecting that's for sure. It was borderline... um....messed up. Some scenes didn't sit well with me.

I wasn't fully convinced with the h n H falling in love with each other. The hero I understood... he was messed up in the head and obsessed with her... but why she fell in love with him so fast just make me question if she was fucked up in the head to. What she was feeling was totally Stockholm Syndrome. I wasn't buying the whole true love tale from her side.

It was a nice read.... a little change from my usual lovey dovey books. But I feel like the storyline needed to be little more finesse.

The whole thing with River at the end was totally buzz kill. Like really. Why can't the poor hero have one true person/friend in his life that doesn't betray him.

"...contemporary twist on some of your favorite fairytales."

Sounds very interesting!!! Hope its good!!
Boston Underworld series was hit and miss for me..... Loved Reaper and Ghost, the other two not so much!!
But cant wait to read this series! I love Fairytales.

I guess I now know my hard limit for dark romance. I consider myself an open-minded person, but I could not get past the violence in this book.

I cannot fault the author for her writing. As a fan of her Boston Underworld series, some of my favorite dark and edgy books, I expected to be drawn in and hooked. Maybe that is part of the problem. Like watching a terrible accident about to happen, I could not look away no matter how graphic the torture.

There are a lot of triggers and should be carefully considered for those who might have been the victim of abuse. The physical and psychological abuse is terrifying to me

I know that there is an audience for this book and I pass no judgment on those who enjoy it. It is simply not for me. I will, however, hope to continue to enjoy Ms. Zavarelli's other stories because I do think she can tell a compelling story.

Love the cover! But the book not so much! I tried to get into this one but it wasn't working for me. I wasn't feeling anything while reading. I also didn't really think it was all that dark. I guess because I've read dark books before. lol
I think my biggest issues was I didn't like the h:((

I loved other books by this author so hopefully I'll try more of her books in the future:)) Glad it was KU!
