This installment has our heroes addressing what the want from this world the find themselves in. Previous volumes dealt more with what the world wanted with them; the dynamic between People of the Land and the Adventures. Shiroe really grows as a guild master and he is the real star of this volume. The raid battle was nice and more personal than when in Volume 7. I think that was because this was the first raid for Log Horizon. Overall it was nice. The ending gives us more information on Kanami.

It was okay, and barely that. It took me weeks to get through this novel. I just didn't really care what was happening to these characters that I've known for so long. It was soporific. The last quarter of the book is the only reason it gets a second star because something semi-interesting actually happens. And because .

I only know of one more volume published and I'll read it, but if something more interesting doesn't happen I doubt I'll ever go back and re-read them knowing that.

I like the Log Horizon verse but its been losing some traction with me recently.

This was a filler novel and where it added a lot to the world its starting to focus more on explaining whats going on rather than exploring it. In addition we are missing a lot of the relatively great character interactions in some of the other books so this one just felt.. dry.

The translation from Japanese is still consistently really good, and so far this light novel series seems to be doing it better than any of the others I read.

fortunately, I've heard we will get another volume, which is good because I'm still really enjoying this universe and have a lot more questions! it was especially nice to get some side character development. the raid battle turned out well, no problems imagining it all in my mind

Excellent Character Building

An excellent job of showing the characters as human and not as all powerful beings. We get a glimpse of their hopes and fears; decisions delayed due to worrying over making the correct choice. Then seeing the characters realize they are only ones preventing themselves from moving forward. A great chapter in this saga.
