Noah Livingston knows he is destined to survive. The sixty-four members of Fire Lake's sophomore class are trapped in a place where morals have no meaning, and zero rules apply. But Noah's deaths have trained him, hardened him, to lead the strongest into the future - whatever that may be - at any cost.

Min Wilder knows that survival alone isn't enough. In a violent world where brute force passes for leadership, it's tempting just to let everyone else fight it out. But Min's instincts rebel against allowing others to decide who lives and who dies. She's ready to fight for what she believes in. And against anyone who might stand in her way.

From Brendan Reichs, co-author of the Virals series with Kathy Reichs, comes Genesis the nail-biting sequel to Nemesis - a fast-paced, high concept thriller perfect for fans of The 100 and The Maze Runner.

[NOTE: I was given a physical ARC by Penguin Young Readers Group in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.]

One of the of the few things I do not enjoy when it comes to books is when someone makes a book into a series. I am not a fan of reading series just because it is hard for me to get into the book and I find myself always critiquing it. However, there are a few rare occasions when the book surpasses expectations and allows the reader to fully emerge in the book as they were able to in the first book. This is one of those rare occasions. Genesis picks up right after the chaos left behind in the cliffhanger in the first book, Nemesis, following Min, Noah, and the other sixty-two members of Fire Lake’s sophomore class. The characters have changed from Nemesis, there are two that have drastically changed (for they have become reluctant and almost cruel) in this new world. Without giving to much away I have to say that I became hooked almost right away. Genesis is a fast paced novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Reichs has done an incredible job of creating the roller-coaster ride of emotions that was needed and very much appreciated for Genesis. Genesis is a out of this world sequel to Nemesis and just when you think it could be over, you realize its not! If you haven't read Nemesis, read that and then make sure to read this enthralling sequel!

Overall I am rating this a 4.5 out of 5 and as a must read!

4.5*

Well, this was a fun and addictive book! When it showed up at my door looking all giant, I was a little scared. Big books are scary. Sequels are scary. But neither was a problem here! So shall we chat about what made this a really good sequel whilst trying to be super vague because again, sequel? Great!

It is so fast paced! For a book that's over 500 pages, it never once felt long. That in itself is a feat. But it just flowed really well, with a great combination of action scenes and downtime for character growth and development.

Speaking of, the characters went through a lot and they had to make some really tough decisions. Decisions about who to trust, what to believe, all kinds of unknowns. It was both interesting and thought provoking to see how different people handle difficult, sometimes life-threatening situations.

We get a lot more information on characters who were introduced in the first book. While this book is still primarily Min and Noah's story, loved getting to know some of the other characters. I won't even tell you which because that in itself could be spoilers, but wow, some of them were handled so well. Some were in a moral gray area, some we just got to hate, but it was all really intriguing and ties in with my above point of watching people handle these situations.

Sometimes in sequels, it is really hard to get back into the world and story. Not the case here! The author did a phenomenal job of giving us little hints to what happened in the last book, but without it feeling at all info dumpy. It was just the perfect amount of reminder material to make me feel fully engaged in the story again.

It was nice and twisty! A lot of stuff went down in this book, and a lot of it was shocking (and in some cases, downright brutal and dark which I am always here for.) I definitely was- and still am, for the next book- kept guessing as to where the story would go next!

I daresay this was even better than the first book! Yes, one of those rare gems! The stakes just seem so, so high in this one. And I liked the direction the story took. The science fiction vibe is stronger with this one, and it fascinated me for sure.

The end was so epic and I cannot wait for answers!!

The only thing that stopped me from giving this the full five stars was a twist near the end. It isn't even that I didn't like what happened it just... well view at your own discretion:

Bottom Line: Such a stellar sequel. All sequels, take note, because this is how it's done. I am basically giddy excited for book three, because wow, need it.

I wasn't sure I was going to get to the end. The suspense last right up until the last page. If you're a Maze Runner fan, pick up this duology. All those characters feel very real and they'll keep you on the edge of your seat. My favorite scene was at the end so I won't spoil it for you. Did not see any of it coming. Excellent story!

I now understand why this book 2 had the highest rating from the 3 books of this series.

Awesome! Good ending!

The book was very long but I finished this in few days because of the fast paced and lots of adventures and revelations.

That feeling when you want to read more til you finish the book. That's what I felt upon reading it.

Good job to the author! It was very creative and well thought! Every scene, the rules, what happened in the silo and everything!

Character checking - Tack made me like him so much in this book. His heroic deeds all for Min.
Yes he became so bad and just killed anyone when he though Min died but he changed right away and back to a good person when he learned that Min was alive.
Min who never wanted to do what the Guardian wanted and she's very selfless. She really love Tack! I am so happy that she choose to save him and all their classmates who died. But they should have left Toby in there lol
Noah, he did some good things in here but I still don't like him much. More effort Noah lol
Ethan, Toby and Sarah the bitch! I hate them 3. They should all be punish and I would still want a revenge against these 3. They did very awful things. Especially Sarah. She never suffered in there so I want revenge! lol

I am not sure if it's just my copy but I noticed a wrong statement in there. You will find it in chapter 38 I think 18 or 19 paragraph from the last. This was Noah's Point of view. He said in there "His gaze drifted to where Noah and I stood.... I think this should be "Min and I stood"
I included this because it made me read back and check the chapter really if who's point of view is it.

Anyway that didn't ruin all the reading adventures I had in this book and I am excited to know more and finish the book 3.
See you!

What happens when an apocalypse destroys Earth as we know it? Everyone is dead except for 64 teenagers who have been digitally put into a computer system. They don’t know how or why but they have been told only the survival of the fittest will make it out of the system and be put back onto Earth to rebuild human kind. Teenagers fight to the death, alliances are made, backstabbing can happen to anyone. Who will survive and who won’t? Can they really make it back to Earth even if they win? I loved this book!

Can we get a round of applause for Brendan Reichs, please?

Because he has done it again. Left me, an emotional wreck with a fake smile firmly on my face to hide the pain, dangling from a precarious cliffhanger. But hey it's totally souldestroying fine I should've known what I'd signed up for after Genesis.

(spoiler of the first book)

Sure it wasn't as good as Nemesis but for that to happen it would need to have somehow found another plot twist that sends you to a hospital due to the level of shock you experience. However, it was still an easy to read page turner.

The only thing that grinded my gears if I'm being picky was the character development just seemed a lil fast and the switches in the characters attitudes were too rapid.

Absolutely pumped for the third book, really need it soon.

Project Nemesis is in Phase 2 and Fire Lake is in utter chaos. The 64 students saved from the destruction of the world have all gone berserk. After learning that only a set number will survive and be able to proceed to Phase 3 the students split into groups and commence in all out war. The rules are unknown. The consequences are deadly. The outcome is a mystery and only one person knows that the true purpose of Project Nemesis is, the Guardian, and he isn't telling anyone.

This book is an all out bloodbath, as the instinct to survive takes ahold of the students. Kill or be killed becomes the mentality and they will stop at nothing to make sure they are one of the ones allowed to continue to Phase 3. Humanity seems to have disappeared from the lives of these blood thirsty teens, at least that is how it seems. Some have retained their humanity and cannot conceieve how their world has fallen so far into the pit of dispair.

This book does a great job of showing the darker side of humanity, along with the moral code that is instilled in us all. We see this world from two different perspectives. Noah Livingston, a boy who has been betrayed or left behind by everyone in his life, takes the Program for what it is worth and tries to force his way to the top of the food chain. Min Wilder despises the Program and everything she represents, will she have to abandon her humanity to survive in this world?

The book did drag in a few spots, and some parts seemed to redundant; however, it was s thoroughly engaging read. You really feel like this is how society would react in a situation like this, despite wanting to believe the best in people. I can't wait to see the final chapter of this story next year.

Genesis picked up where Nemesis left off. This time, as a reader, I was really forced to pick sides as characters formed groups to fight and kill each other. The whole concept of the story was brutal and video game-like. In the beginning, it was like death didn't matter anymore because everyone just reset to life anyway, but then, when they found out that resetting has limits, suddenly, surviving mattered again. It was so cool to read! All the struggles, plotting and more revelations as the story went made it an enjoyable one! I found myself just wanting to read more and more plot twists! It did not disappoint til the end! Looking forward to the third and final installment of this series!

Great part 2! Aside from it started really slow and almost laughable with all the video game style of killing people, the second half of the book was peak writing! It was enjoyable! I was kind of disappointed no one from the betas is destroyed forever hahaha it's more enjoyable if 2/4 betas will die, lmao! That being said, the book was satisfying to read but horrifying to imagine. If I have many things to say about, that means I like it, right? Lmao! I hope this series finishes strong. :)

UMM OKAY WHAT JUST HAPPENED???

Y'all need to get to reading book 2 quicker because things are so wild in this book and I need people to chat about it with, okay?

If you thought book one was a rollercoaster, wait until you dive in to Genesis.

As a refresher, at the end of book 1, Noah has gone to the dark side (dun dun dun!!!) and he's working through Phase 2 by killing people (I.E. THAT GIRL YOU LIKE, MIN??? HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT BETRAYAL, MAN?).

Min's been trying to survive this newly ruthless world as best she can, but her instincts rebel against letting others choose who lives and who dies. New secrets are revealed--game changing ones, I might add, that make Min, Noah, and the whole sophomore class of Fire Lake question what they thought they know.

*screams into a pillow for 10 minutes*

I'm in such a frenzy after this book and it's just been such an awesome rollercoaster ride and now I can't believe it's over. And that we have to wait till Spring 2019 for book 3.

Genesis lived up to all of my expectations and even though I gave it the same rating as book 1, it was so much better.

The action is more action-y than ever, the situation is more ruthless, and the secrets that come out are just hitting us by the dozen. It's like how Catching Fire was better and more intense than The Hunger Games--but this time with a plot that's actually different than the first book.

I really enjoyed how much Min changed in this book. In the last book, I wasn't too keen on her because she felt too perfect, but now she's going through all these changes because of the situation that was the sort of growth and flaws that I was looking for in the first book. She's stepping up to the plate and making mistakes along the way and I ended up liking Min the best in this book, which was a pleasant surprise!

Noah's as tormented as you could imagine (seriously, he has these parts italicized that are kind of like a psychopathic voice in his head. ~spooky~). I did like how he worked towards redeeming himself in this book, and his start to his character change back to being good was enjoyable to see.

Ultimately, why I took off a half star was because I wanted Noah's redemption to go a little further. I wanted all the murder's redemption to go a little further. Stuff that I can't reveal happens at the end and it helps redeem themselves, but what I really want to see is evidence of this happening.

Which, because we're getting a book 3, is actually kind of a silly complaint because we're almost certainly going to see this happen in the next book, but I'm grasping at straws here, okay? Give a reviewer a break and let me try to find something wrong with this. (Operative word: try.)

There were so many little details in this that made it so much better than the first, like that one sly lesbian couple Reichs slipped in (YASS) and also just Tack in general (my poor baby).

The plot was just so engrossing. I sped through this entire book very quickly and it's honestyl really sad how fast it went because now I wish I savored it more. Oh well, I guess it's just time for a reread.

But the mystery aspect was executed really well, and if you thought the reveals in Nemesis were all Reichs has up his sleeve, well, let me just inform you that you are very, very wrong.

Genesis was such an amazing read and totally knocked book 1 out of the ballpark. If you're a sci-fi fan like me, or anyone who just loves action or conspiracy stories, I totally recommend you jump on the Nemesis train. (I'm begging you please do it; I need someone to scream with me about that cliffhanger 😭.)

Thank you so much to Penguin Teen for sending me an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review as a part of the blog tour!

Genesis, the sequel to Nemesis, follows our Min and Noah as they try to understand the new world they've been thrust in and how to get through Phase 1.

I really enjoyed book 1, so I'm sad to say that this book did not live up to the same level. I mentioned in my review of the first book that I hoped the author wouldn't go the boring route in this sequel, but he did; the book lacked the same fast pace and intriguing mystery that gripped me so much in the first book. They were there, of course, but they felt like dull duplicates of their counterparts in Nemesis. The pace was very slow up until about halfway through the book. Even when things kick-started, most of what happened was predictable.

The main plot twist was what sort of redeemed the book for me. I say sort of because although I was surprised, a part of the twist was quite predictable, or extremely easy to deduce from the events of the book of the first book.

The other main complaint I had about this book is the romance. Like in book 1, I still couldn't get behind the romance. It feels very forced, and I didn't think it added anything crucial to the story. To add on to that, the characters were not likeable in my opinion, and the constant shift in Noah's behaviour did not make sense.
As for the writing, it felt repetitive - which is probably because I read this right after Nemesis.

Now, you must be wondering why I gave the book 3 stars inspite of all these negatives. Two reasons. One: the idea of the book is still quite unique in my opinion, so points for creativity, and two: THAT PLOT TWIST. I gasped out loud in shock, literally. This never happens to me.
Another positive here is that this book answered many of the questions I had after the end of the first book.

Overall, this was a let-down, but I'm still looking forward to reading the series finale.

This legitimately might be my favorite book in the whole wide world of libraries! What the heck! Why did I love this so much???

I am perplexed, but I am also so glad I found a new favorite. This book had me flying through those pages, I started reading at 2:00 yesterday, and the next thing I know, I am looking up being: "It's 5:10!!!" From the start, Brendan Reichs pulls me in. I wasn't too obsessed with the first book, and I didn't really remember much, so I was like, "alright, I will give it my best try." But the next thing I knew I was already finished with half of the book.

Why did this happen? Well, let me intrigue you. I have told you this before in my previous reviews, but I will tell you again if I don't:
I absolutely LOVE when a book has a "game" element.

And in this book, that was a huge part of it. It was so much like "Fortnite," inside of a book. With the killing and resetting and eliminating, it was crazy! And as the class--mainly Noah and Min--found out the rules/regulations to this game, I was totally hooked. And that was one thing I loved about Brendan Reich's writing style. There is a flow to the story, with shocking twists and revelations that come to every few chapters, and it is like discovering this huge conspiracy (a nod to book 1). There were so many places to have little predictions and even bigger ones. And let me tell you, I got the really huge purpose of Project Nemesis right!

But bragging aside, this book just had me on such a sugar rush! There was just SO MUCH action, SO MUCH tension, SO MUCH conflict, SO MUCH emotion, I JUST WANT MOOOOREEEE! Can this series just go on forever? Please....

I highly recommend that you check out this series.

"I reject this whole world. And I'll fight it, no matter what the consequences are."

I was so afraid that the second book would not inherit the surprise, the intense elements the first book "Nemesis" had, but to my satisfaction, it didn't disappoint me.
The concept of this book is pretty similar to "Red Rising" and "The Hunger Game", basically the kids need to kill off their friends while establishing their lives, their comrades in order to reach the next phase of Project Nemesis, The Evolution, so you know there're a lot going on throught the book. In comparison, in my opinion, the built-up intensity, actions, the writting, especially those plots are just so pleasantly good, the only downhill of it is the lack of the author's personal thoughts and philosophy on...things, which is the reason it only got 4 stars from me. It might sound a bit corny as I said, but one of the thing that makes a book remarkable is how the author put their thoughts through the characters, that's how a book standing out.
The third book is coming this year, and I'm really hyped also worry that it won't meet my expectation, as I honestly think that this series could have ended as a duology. Still, a girl can have hope.

So problematic and stupid. A million years and all the training they get is to kill themselves. So fucking stupid. This is one of those books that makes you question someone's intelligence to the point where I'd actually want to have been there when the author came up with this BS.

Go on kids. You're the last humans. No, we're not going to teach you to hunt or medicine or science or how to survive in different areas or how to make closes or even force you to come together as a group. We're not going to educate you in governing yourselves or make special science-y tech so you can sort out what's safe to eat and what isn't. We're not going to teach you have to build anything or mine or hunt or defend against animals or first aid in the field or anything that you'd actually need. Nope. We're just gunna have you kill yourselves until there's 20 of you to go on because 20 is TOTALLY a big enough number to restart the population. Inbreeding? Wut's that? LuL! I'm sure you'll tots forget that person A there just burned you alive. You won't have any lingering issues from that. They'll be NO panic, I'm sure. Have fun kids!

This was a slow start for me, a bit comical because of video game style setting. I mean, people dying and just resetting again? Killing each other and forming war groups and devising plans? It was just ridiculous for me and I wasn't into the story in the beginning. But it picked up my interest in the middle as more revelations came. I also enjoyed this book for having more characters; some admirable and some despicable. There were so many parts that made me feel conflicting emotions all throughout but I have always admired Min's character more especially in this book. It seemed to me like she was still very human, with a compassionate heart and not just most of what the others have become : savage and will stop at nothing for their survival. Min never relished in killing other people and have always tried to think of other solutions for everything. Even until the end she still thought of the best for everyone. It was an enjoyable book and I can't wait to read more of what happens next!

I thought the first book in the series, Nemesis, was an interesting read and it left enough of a cliffhanger for me to look to continue on and read Genesis. While Genesis did have some interesting plot points and I quite enjoyed the endgame, the middle portion of the book was incredibly slow and I couldn’t get past some of the nuances in regards to the characters.

I did enjoy how ‘Project Nemesis’ panned out throughout the book as Min, Noah, Tack and the rest of their classmates navigate through the three phases outlined by the Program. We see the power struggles between three of the original Beta’s as they realise only the strongest will survive. Min tries to avoid the conflict and doesn’t accept that becoming so heartless and inhuman can’t be the only purpose of their existence within the supercomputer and if it is, she doesn’t want to accept it. I liked the ideas raised throughout the book about humanity and how they revolve into a very ‘Lord of the Flies’ society. I did enjoy the revelation about the endgame of Project Nemesis and how it was created to save humanity. It also tied into the mysterious deaths of the four Beta patients that occurred on their Birthdays before the imitation of Nemesis and how they managed to be killed countless times but reappear unharmed the next morning. Overall I liked the science fiction aspects to the book and the idea of Project Nemesis ended up being quite interesting.

What made me give this book 3.5 stars is how slow the middle portion is! It dragged on and on and on and didn’t feel like we were getting anywhere. It took me a week to grind my way through it, hoping that something would happen and cause a spark in the storyline. Once some key points were revealed and explored I ended up finishing the rest of the book in one sitting.

I also had a couple problems with the characters that made me less immersed in not only the story but in feeling invested in their storylines. They had some wired moments of dialogue or decision making that made it feel like they were not truly realised (not two dimensional, but not yet three either). Noah’s weird and quite unnerving obsession with Min and his transformation into a ‘psychopath’ throughout the book and then is quick transformation into a then into ‘not one’ is just one example. I just wanted more for the characters and I think that would have strengthened the books as a whole.

I thought Genesis was a good follow up to the first book in the series. I don’t think there is a third book planed and I have to admit, I’m ok with this. It ended on a good note, with most things resolved and those that were not made the ending just ambiguous enough that it didn’t feel like it was wrapped to up too perfectly with a nice bow.

Reichs returns in the middle entry of his gnarly, supernaturally deadly, seriously dangerous Nemesis trilogy. Going forward, I do have to drop major spoilers for Book 1 - or do I? I mean, the dust jacket blurb does a terrific job of not being too spoilery in case someone picks this book up by accident without having read its predecessor.

But I'm not writing dust-jacket copy. I'm writing a review for Genesis and, maybe just a little, hoping it manages to blow up my blog stats a bit and become one of my top 10 posts just like my review for Book 1.

So I'll spoil Book 1 going forward. Just not Book 2, as best I can.

I can tell you that while Genesis does suffer from one or two of its predecessor's same flaws - namely its oddly slow start - being decidedly more post-apocalyptic and Matrix-y than Book 1 is a major help. And also more Maze Runner and Lord of the Flies than ever. Noah and Min are at such odds throughout most of the story that it's downright maddening, and then when various other characters start showing signs of turning morally grey if not outright evil, one has to wonder exactly how far down in the depths of human nature Reichs is willing to plumb. It all plays out in a scarily Hunger Games-like scenario too, where only a certain number of the Fire Lake sophomores can move forward, but then the ending.

That ending.

Reichs, how many times did you read Cixin Liu's books? They must've inspired you a great deal.

Just like the first book, Genesis reads, to me, almost like someone threw my own books into a blender with those of Michael Grant and hit "chop." And I'm totally here for it, especially as long as I keep using Nemesis as a query comp title.

Speaking of which, I need to get back to querying. If you'll excuse me, I'll be back in my cave again. Querying, and maybe writing into my book a shoutout of some kind, just like Reichs shouts out so many other giants like Star Wars and Warcross, to name a few.

This is better than the first book at least but still needs improvement. Am I the only one wondering what's the relationship between Sarah and Ethan? Are they the monster couple or what? Lol. Also, Sarah seemed to be smitten with Noah in the first book and in this book she just cared about messing with the weather and rules and whatever? She was like a hunger games Gamemaker and a bitch rolled into one lol. Also, Black suit isn't even scary at all. He was just outwitted by a high school bitch in the control room jajaja. Seriously though even with all these rants , I enjoyed it but mostly for the laughing entertainment jajaja. I also wish the author will give Tack a lady. Why not Rachel maybe? Lol I'm being a shipper am I not? Jajaja. Good job author, I hope it's a good ending next book or else, no 5/5 rating jajaja.

This book has so much enjoyable substance to read about. It was like a favorite food that I consumed so fast - pages after pages were so exciting to read. The author did a really great job developing the story. I think it would work better with a third person point of view. Still, it did not disappoint. The revelations just made it more exciting. The additional characters also added to a very good storyline. I liked how it ended, generally, but I can't wait to read what else is in store for them. It seems like a happy good enough ending already. Very good follow up book. Kudos to the author!

4.5/5 stars -- book two in the YA sci-fi series, Project Nemesis, and, as far as sequels go, Genesis delivers everything you want and then some--an epic thrill ride! Not for the faint of heart, and I say that as someone who's a wee bit (okay, a lot) faint of heart. This book had me resubscribing to the Calm (meditation) app.

Initial Impressions 4/17/19: Sadly, I had some serious issues with this book, all of which are probably spoilers. I will say that I think most of the book didn't push the plot forward. This series takes things to a whole new level but there was just too much time on things that didn't really do much for the book.

So of course I'm going to read CHRYSALIS and I'm curious to see what happens after THAT cliffhanger but that was a series of pretty frustrating turns.

Thank you to Pan Macmaillian Australia for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this book, this of course no way impacts my thoughts on the book.
In book one, Genesis, I was definitely interested in the story of Min and Noah, I hadn’t read anything like it before and was addicted and enjoyed the twists and turns…
“Nemesis” took this to a whole new level.  This book was properly insane! There were so many twists and turns, I was actually on the edge of my seat throughout! Noah had me so frustrated at times, being so power blind by what he’d been through, I wanted to scream at him, and needed him to have a long hard think about what he and Min, and everyone else had gone through! I felt sorry for him at times, and some parts definitley had me feeling! I really loved his character in the first book, and by the end of this one I was glad to have rediscovered that love.
Min, I was always with! Like, she is easily my favourite character, so brave and bold and strong, and filled with emotion about what she had gone through, and Tack, he was so precious and made so many sacrifices throughout this book – Min, Noah and Tack, three amazing memorable characters! And I wouldn’t have heard about them were it not for this book! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read these, and I’m certainly hoping that there will be subsequent books, because seeing these characters again, so different now, would be an experience I’m sure! What especially amazed me about this book was the humanity, and the lack of at times! This book constantly made me question ‘what would I do?’ if I were in these characters shoes, and the revelation which connected Min to her ‘deaths’, which we learn about in book 1, had some surprisingly emotional revelations, which, even though I suspected, I loved!
The writing had me addicted, once I started this book I could hardly put it down! I know these characters will definitley stay with me for some time, the plot too!

Firstly i’d like to thank NetGalley for providing me with an eARC copy of this book, all views and opinions discussed are my own.

I have a confession, and it is that I am an idiot. I didn’t realise until mid-way through that this book was actually part of a series, I was under the impression this was a stand-alone so I had to redo my thinking whilst reading this book. I thought it was all going to be concluded in the book, but with it being part of a series it obviously wasn’t going to be. I have also, only just realised, that this was the second book of the series🤦🤦🤦 I’ve just looked on goodreads and realised that I thought I was reading Nemesis… but I actually read Genesis… this makes me understand why the synopsis was confusing the hell out of me because I was reading the synopsis for Nemesis. I honestly don’t think that this really impacted my reading of Genesis but who knows.

It does explain why there’s not a lot of world building in this book and why we start part way through – this was gonna be one of my complaints of this book, but considering it was my mess up it’s not a complaint of the book as it’s clearly all explained in the first book…

This book was an interesting book, and I did enjoy the concept, but I didn’t necessarily feel any tension with the characters. I’m not sure if this is because I haven’t read the first book to connect with these characters, but I just never got overly invested in any of the characters. I think this may be partly due to the fact that Reichs seems to forget some of his character arcs during the plot, and they just suddenly change their actions with no real explanation or consequence. It gives you whiplash a bit trying to keep up with why people are suddenly changing their view points with no real trigger. I was also really annoyed at Min during this book with how she felt about Noah; she refers over and over and over to the fact that he shot her in the back, but once she looks at him it’s like that goes all out the window and she’s ready to forgive and forget. It just seemed a bit laughable to me.

I do feel this book was quite slow in places, and I was skipping through sections were nothing really happened. I am also really really disappointed in the ending of this book and I honestly feel it was a bit of a cop out. The whole book is based upon the fact that not all of these children can survive this phase of the game, and that only a small number of them will make it on, so for the ending to then suddenly throw all of that to the side I was so disappointed. I think what this book did well was to show how normal people can completely throw aside all their humanity and fledge an all out war on people they might have once cared about. So to suddenly have the last chapter when the game completely changes and suddenly everyone gets to survive just really ruined everything that had already happened because it all just became pointless. I do think that it will be interesting to see how they deal with what happened to all these kids in the next book; all of these kids have to have some level of PTSD and I really hope the book actually address this, and the fact that these kids have brutally murdered one another.

This wasn’t a terrible book, but it wasn’t an overly amazing one. I think what ruined it for me is that the fact that everyone suddenly survives and comes back at the end of the book, makes the whole of this book irrelevant. I’d be intrigued to read the whole series but I wouldn’t necessarily buy it myself.

Genesis is an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. With mind blowing tension and a cast of entirely unpredictable characters, this book will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

After the explosive ending to Nemesis and the fascinating concepts we'd been introduced to as readers, I had high expectations going into this book, but in all honesty Genesis blew book one out of the water. Reichs has created a sci-fi world that is so smart and just plausible enough to make this story utterly captivating. The mysterious tone of book one carries over brilliantly into book two as the characters try to understand their new reality and figure out what it will take to progress into the next phase of their reality.

Reading this book was like watching a social experiment with extremely high stakes. The character's reactions were fascinating, relatable, and believable. There is so much fodder for book club discussion throughout this story. Book club moderators everywhere should definitely be paying attention to this one.

This story is incredibly intense. There is such a depth of emotion. You can really feel the emotional connection between the characters. While there aren't as many romantic scenes in this book, that emotion is so raw that I actually felt the romance between Min and Noah so much more.

This book ended in a way that is completely satisfying and a great way to wrap up the duology, but it also leaves readers thinking that Reichs could write another book in this world down the road, and we would be so there for it.

Genesis is a worthy successor to Nemesis, with twists aplenty as the group try to work out how to manage phase two.
As to be expected, factions have developed. As some key players learn more about the situation they find themselves in, things become increasingly fraught. Min finds herself leading the group, and having to make decisions that seem way beyond what should be expected.
It having been a while since I read book one it took me a while to get back into this, but it really was an explosive read. I was intrigued to learn more of what secrets were to be discovered, but I loved the way these events brought out sides to characters that were most unexpected.
